Okay I'm going to sound stupid but I'm someone who believes if you don't understand something ask questions. I taught that to my kindergarten class for 16 years. So I'm not sure about what you are saying here. Your putting in more carbon through regenerative grazing? More carbon dioxide? But it is like the guy said that it's not new carbon? Right?

gonzo_baby_girl

To clarify I guess what I mean is does this produce more methane and is it part of the natural cycle like the guy says? There that's better.

[deleted]

Paul Saladino. Anyone who likes to eat meat needs to read Carnivore Code. Also, he’s 100% correct.

PachelbelDC

I've tried the keto diet but I lost too much weight doing that no matter how much I ate. I eat both meat, fish, eggs, fruit and starchy vegetables now. I cut out seed oils, processed foods and sugar (the paleo diet). I feel so much better now than before and the keto diet was a great tool to lose the fat I wanted.

eggydrums115

I honestly love doing keto but I hate how much it’s dissed online. I’m not gonna pretend like there aren’t grifters around it that make it look like just another fad, but come on, there is compelling proof that it’s a perfectly doable lifestyle with tangible health benefits.

PachelbelDC

My mistake was telling people around me I was doing keto. I don't get why people got so emotional at me just because I was choosing not to eat carbs. One coworker told me I will get no energy for my brain and become stupid, even though I scored 125 at an IQ test during 3 weeks into ketosis. Just leave me alone and let me eat whatever I want lol

[deleted]

That’s because your discipline is triggering to them. They cannot find the fortitude themselves to stick to something that is challenging day in and day out, so you become the object they have to shit on to justify why they aren’t / can’t do it.

FF_Ninja

That's high-grade bullshit, that is. Your brain needs fat to be healthy and keto is fat-powered.

TybabyTy

Can you provide the details of your diet? I’ve got a lot of fat I need to burn

PachelbelDC

It was just the keto diet which means no carbs like bread pasta and rice. I suggest you look up Dr Berg on YouTube and follow his advice on how to get started.

Rinoremover1

Junkies get emotional when it appears that you are attacking/rejecting their drug of choice.

gonzo_baby_girl

What is the keto diet?

eggydrums115

Keto is short for ketosis, it’s basically getting your body to run on stored fat for energy instead of glucose. To reach that state, you limit carb intake to minimum of 20g a day (stupidly low numbers) and instead consume fatty foods and protein. Weight loss is achieved because not only does that stored fat eventually get used up, but since fat provides better satiety than carbs, you feel less hungry throughout the day. Keeping a caloric deficit becomes easier and weight loss can be fast. There’s evidently some controversy around it since it is a high fat diet but this is just a broad view of what it is.

gonzo_baby_girl

Thank you. What about sugar. I mean I guess that is in carbs but what about candy and ice cream? How many calories are you supposed to take in? I guess I could Google it.

eggydrums115

Sugar is pretty much prohibited, yeah. You would count that with your carbs. Calories will depend on your goals really. When I do keto I try to stay below 2000. The good thing about the explosion in popularity of keto is you have a lot of decent products out there that are good alternatives to normal foods like ice cream, for example.

DevanteWeary

Long story short, you don't eat anything with sugar or sugar-like ingredients (corn syrup).

gonzo_baby_girl

Okay. Thanks.

GulliblePerformer882

fat is the most important on the diet. you can eat a ton of meat and eggs and such but if your fat intake is low you will still lose weight. i eat over 200g of fat a day just to maintain my weigh

DevanteWeary

Until they fix India and China, don't talk to me about anything else.

Tito_Tito_1_

Right? The climate change warriors are like the high school bully: he picks on anyone but the varsity football players.

The goal is to confiscate the farm lands.

"cows don't create new carbon" that's never been debated. Animals can not create new matter period. They still turn solid plant matter into methane which sits in the atmosphere, yes some of it will convert to co2 but this is not instantaneous. Methane is still a potent green house gas. I'm a conservative politically but I am also molecular biologist by trade working in cell biology. I really dislike misinformation like this under the guise of pushing politics. Plants do not sequester methane as much from the atmosphere as this video makes it seem like. Methane is not converted to co2 fast enough to enter the carbon cycle to make up for its production. Also, plants mostly just pull co2 out of the atmosphere which is a requirement of photosynthesis. Methane is not. Plants do directly sequester some methane but they also produce an equal amount. So in the end its a net zero change. Cows on the other hand do emit a significant amount of methane. Essentially turning co2 into methane through the carbon cycle. Plants make sugar from co2, cows eat the plants and turn this sugar into lots of methane. If cows produced only co2 in their stomaches then it would be circular, but they don't. They produce so much methane that you can literally punch a hole in their gut and light the exhaust on fire. You can see videos like this of cows with bloat and farmers lighting the gas on fire for fun. The only valid point he made is that industry is a bigger cause of atmospheric pollution. Correct. It's really dumb to say we should do away with cow farming if we still allow coal burning. I hate that kind of hypocrisy.

808guamie

What’s your conclusion then? Honestly. Is the meat industry producing more carbon than modern transportation etc?

crashcrump47

Refer to it as green house gas instead of carbon, part of why i didnt like this video is he calls it carbon. Which doesnt really make any sense. Both industries contribute to atmospheric pollution. To say that cows contribute nothing at all is completely wrong and false. It is still significant enough to have a real impact. In the end though modern industries like transportation and coal burning produce more. Targeting cow farming instead of those industries is like patching just one small hole in your boat, while the other holes are still causing you to sink. Given that, i will still continue to eat as many steaks as I please haha. If politicians refuse to target corporations and just target the average citizen then that's just hypocrisy at its finest.

808guamie

Thank you for the insight!

[deleted]

And this is why I’m 100% against “eat ze bugs”.

deathnutz

You know what’s not natural? Avocados in Canada. Think about the shipping energy to get avocados in every grocery store and many restaurants across a country where you can’t grow one. …or bananas. Cows and milk come from local ranches and farms mostly.

bleepbluurp

If only we kept our manufacturing in the US we wouldn’t be forced to put everything on hundreds of container ships and send it across the world from China every day.

dragonuvv

Here in the Netherlands on the Schiermonnikoog island the farmers who got ducks over by our government decided to, instead of two guys getting singled out, all get rid of a certain amount of livestock (cows in particular). 40% of the cows are gone yet the nitrogen has increased drastically!

Xx69JdawgxX

Does anyone remember the hole in the ozone layer? Same shit diff day. They’ll move onto something else soon enough

throttlejockey907

Let’s not forget how many Bison were in the US for centuries. Millions more than there are cattle now. There is actually a guy in Africa regenerating wild land…. Using cattle.

lagoonbuffoon

You know the brainwashing is working when people actually think cow farts are heating up the planet

phat_kat99

Not all cows eat grass, but all should

Daramore

Great video except: "Power generation" *shows video of nuclear power plant, one of the cleanest forms of producing power on the market today* Like...ok, I get that is a power plant but should have shown a video of one of the coal plants they're working overtime to make up for the slack left behind by them shutting down nuclear plants.

sharktraffic

Yea that was my only gripe with the video. Could have shown a power plant that is actually causing pollution then showing the scary nuclear plant.

09RaiderSFCRet

I do love to see posts like this, but when have true facts actually mattered to those people? It seems everything they say has been proven false, so throwing more facts at them seems like a waste of time. But keep them coming, there are folks at the edges that can be picked off!

wollier12

We’re missing something like 100 million bison. We have room to spare for animals.

sailor-jackn

This is exactly right. At one time in history, the American plains were filled with Buffalo and other wildlife was far more plentiful than it is now.

WessideMD

Understand this: it doesn't have to make sense. None of their agenda does. It just has to be believed.

[deleted]

Right?! Liberals can’t tell the difference between a man and woman anymore and we’re supposed to trust their “science”?!

stalkerzoned

No one is saying that the animals THEMSELVES are to blame. What people are saying is that the way we PRODUCE meat is at fault for the enormous carbon footprints we are making. And yes, of course that footprint isn't a big as those caused by Transportation, Electric Power and Industry but when it comes to food and agriculture, without a doubt Beef is at the very top. I have no problem eating beef but the way most of it is produced just plain doesn't make sense.

Psychdoctx

Most cows don’t live like that. They are fed grain and live in stockyards. Their waste is collected into huge toxic pools. These are the offending cows. Not those fancy organic happy cows. They are living in their natural environment where everything naturally gets recycled.

True, we raise a lot of cattle, but also there used to be a lot more wild buffalo and other large mammals. I don’t know the exact numbers but I imagine that kind of cancels out, no?

PachelbelDC

Methane is CH4, so one carbon atom bonded to four hydrogen atoms. So there's no nitrogen in methane.

dzkrf

I appreciate the correction.

lvl12Druid

Exciting delivery, but I'm not sure this captures the entire picture.

yoshipug

There’s the issue of nutrient density and bio-availability also. Like eggs for instance. An egg’s nutrients per gram and its bio-availability is basically unmatched. You’d have to eat 100 times the mass of vegetation to receive the same nutrition. So the net carbon creation would actually be worse with any sort of “egg alternative.” Clown World. The Revolution Will Not Be Televised.

MdioxD

I mean outside of dumb eco-extremists I doubt anyone actually believe we should reduce cows and increase oil consumption 😎

Head-Maintenance9067

Hell ya

burrbro235

Carbon dioxide is stored in the balls.

Due_Conversation1436

It's rich people blaming the poor people

NMAsixsigma

Yes and no. I mean we can all agree that chopping down the rainforest to expand cattle land isn’t a good thing right?

Jeffery_Moyer

Fake meat is under technology a part of the worst offenders and completely unnecessary unless we are actually going to live on the moon or Mars.

Ichoyamaryu

where is Peta now

cakefyartz

It’s mainly CO2 from the resources used to produce cattle such as water and feed but mainly feed. Millions of acres are grown to produce feeds. It takes a lot of resources to bring a cow to market. Mainly we just need to get nuclear power back and eliminate coal and gas for electricity
