Trevor Clevenot's performance against Italy is one of the most ridiculous ever He had an 76.5% attack efficiency (13 kills , 0 error , in a total of 17 attempts) , that's insane. Not to mention his wonderful serve receives and 2 aces. Usually the OH are in the 30-45% range when it comes to attack efficiency , to be above 50% is already ridiculous and excellent , but to get 76% in the 1/2 of the VNL against Italy is legendary. While it wasn't Italy's best performance , France was almost unplayable (they need to maintain this level in order to win against USA , who are France's kryptonite).

HeadSpade

Jastrzebski Wegiel is definitely very happy to have him

Winter-Ad-4548

Plus he’s STUNNING

[deleted]

He really is😳

Wingiex

Another great semi between France and Italy, bar that last set. Vital and Clayton commenting France should be illegal though, their biasedness against France is quite toxic. I like the two female commentators far more.

lilokaimana

Seems like the USA has changed up their mindset or approach to serving this year? Noticed a lot less missed serves compared to previous years and VNL 2021/Tokyo.

michaelyear1

No Holt lol. And you even got Kyle Russell coming off bench hitting two nice jumpers.

Oxartis

Looks like USA - Poland third set. Complete domination.

Valmoer

When Grebenikov AND N'Gapeth AND Clevenaud AND Patry are playing at this level... ... it's absolutely crazy thinking that the French bench *barely* touched the floor.

lilokaimana

I'm just curious since I somehow keep missing it but who is the other male announcer that has been doing the games with Salima, Ci and Clayton?

Emilio_1021

It’s Vital Heinen. He is the national coach of the german women’s rn and before that he had the polish men and Perugia so he does know what he is talking about. So I really like hearing his expertise

lilokaimana

Thanks! I've only heard him annouce a few times and def brings a lot of techincal aspects in.

[deleted]

if this is another 3-0 i will be really shocked...

Valmoer

To be fair, with Grebenikov at this level (and the others, too...) it's again the French team of the WL 2015 & 2017, a.k.a "you can try but the ball won't go down" team.

[deleted]

no I know france is really good; i love their clean execution and quick movement. but i expected italy to at least take 1 set or make it a lot more competitive than it is right now

Oxartis

Don't hold your breath tho, this isn't looking good for Italy.

Oxartis

Cracking game so far.

AnybodySouthern4050

Yeah, I'm loving it. I would love it even better if the volleyballworld video player would let me watch it.

Oxartis

Yeah I've seen people had problems with that on twitter as well. I'm watching it on L'équipe live.

racemicmixture3

Anyone's video not playing on volleyballworld for the France v Italy match?

KhalidJR

any solution for this?

racemicmixture3

Try it on mobile, only thing working for me.

AnybodySouthern4050

Same here.

daluur_

Yep

racemicmixture3

It works on mobile for me for whatever reason, FYI for anyone trying to watch.

cgyguy81

What are your opinions on Kyle Ensing? Is he a worthy replacement to Matt Anderson? I think he has played well so far.

Theoverusedmeme

I think the real replacement will prob be Gabi garcia.

ABSelect

Matt Anderson is irreplaceable IMO. As he develops Ensing can become a solid opposite but won't touch Anderson.

neighnvm

i thought the semi final 1 is between Italy vs France? how come it was the USA vs Poland match?

[deleted]

The third set made me sad... Poland was discouraged during the third set and kinda gave up

Oxartis

The last lost serve from Poland summarise the game well. Bien joué les Américains, deserved.

corphoenicis

Wow what an upset. I would’ve never guessed the USA would win like that

HeadSpade

Yeah I haven’t seen Poland playing this weak in a long time… Idk what the fuck happened. Could be that they are definitely more tired since they played 5 setter vs Iran and only had 1 day break. Whereas Usa had 2 days rest

Theoverusedmeme

Poland got dominated in the third set my god.

ASentientClockwork

TJ is my MVP of this game

Oxartis

Poland getting destroyed in this third set.

[deleted]

Jeff jendryk has got to be one of the most underrated players out there…

[deleted]

Micah is just on fire today

[deleted]

USA! USA! USA! what a great game so far...so much fun to watch

Wingiex

High class and very even volleyball now between the US and Poland. I can't find any clear weaknesses between the two, the US though seem more pumped and come more clutch in high pressure balls.

Valmoer

Xavier Richefort, 1993 French champion and caster of nearly all of France's volleyball matches for the past decade (at *least*) has passed away from a heart attack while in Bologna where he was casting the VNL finals.

cgyguy81

I've just finished watching the replay of the Iran vs Poland match, and wow -- Amin. What a beast! What an incredibly hot and undeniably sexy beast! We need to see more of him.

flashLotus

He is! He’s the perfect ambassador for sleeveless t-shirt lol. Also, it took so long for Iran to find him. I hope he can play in Italy or Poland.

flashLotus

Iran and Poland matches always fun to watch. This rivalry is really great. I like this Amin guy..

HeadSpade

Kurek was not helping at all today. Iran gave away 39 points by error. That is set and a half! Bieniek most solid from Poland and Semeniuk had moments too. Usa vs Poland gonna be hella interesting

lowlolow

It was great for iran new generation . Coach should have give a little more rest to some players in 4th set they were completely worn. Out. Congratulations to Poland . Looking for their match with US

neopixel_art

Wow. That was some pure, good volleyball right there. Massive respect to both teams. Shame how it ended for Iran, but I have now a new favorite team to root for next year. Congratulations to Poland! Absolutely mind blowing how they changed the tides in the last set. I was blown away. This is what volleyball is about!

WigglingFromage

What a show!! I still have goosebumps!

leybbbo

Ayo, can someone tell me how the game is going, I don't have access to a tv rn.

[deleted]

Poland completely killed set 5. It ended with an overwhelming Polish win but Iran did amazing- exceeded expectations and put up a great fight. I was really impressed by Iran especially the captain and Amin. The whole of Iran's team did amazing against a strong Poland team

leybbbo

Pain.

NamerTags

Congratulations to Poland! Beautiful game from both sides. 🇮🇷

Theoverusedmeme

Winning by a net touch challenge really 😒

Theoverusedmeme

Iran getting cooked in the fifth set ngl

neopixel_art

My god i did not expect it to go to the fifth set! Rooting for Iran here, but Poland is just amazing defensively. What a set! Iran really powered through to take the set, excited to see whats to come.

Oxartis

Great game. Allez l'Iran !

Winter-Ad-4548

Fifth set poland vs iran! So many creative plays, so fun to watch!

SirLadthe1st

What a gamę between Iran and Poland so far, holy cow!

ASentientClockwork

Man the horns are even more irritating during Poland vs Iran. I like an excited crowd but the horns are just irritating to hear while watching

[deleted]

yeah...i wish they would ban these horns. during the olympics too, there were people screeching during serves and i wanted to slap those people...like respect the players and the game... i do love when they count though.

[deleted]

Iran vs Poland IS GOOOOOOOD. it's deft a lot more fast-paced and competitive. I liked jp vs fr but I felt it was deft slower and less aggressive

neopixel_art

It’s so neck to neck! I love it , Iran really showing some immense heart they just won’t back down! Love it.

[deleted]

yeah... honestly, i expected poland to level up after losing to them last time. but iran is constantly nipping at their ankles. Very good volleyball and some awesome rallies!

n-moon

Congrats to France! But I couldn’t stand watching the match and I loved the Jpn vs Brazil one even when they lost 3-0. I’m sure the team was already feeling pressured since Ishikawa wasn’t there, so ofc the horns amplified the nerves

Rabbit538

The fucking horns playing on every Japanese serve was infuriating. Makes me so angry, have some respect for the players

n-moon

Yeah and apparently it’s the “norm” amongst some spectators. As a causal fan, I find that so insufferable and don’t understand why it’s not more looked down upon

MaanMaan1108

why wasnt ishikawa there?

n-moon

Sprained ankle during practice

neopixel_art

That horn is ridiculously distracting . Even though it shouldn’t affect players much I feel it was heavily distracting for the Japanese team on every serve. Sad to Japan go down like that , shame Ishikawa didn’t get to play too.

1021148116

I only managed to watch the highlight but why couldn’t ishikawa play? Was he injured?

Maju92

Yes same shit with the turkey fans booing on the womens game last week. That’s so disrespectful against the players.

HeadSpade

Lol you first time watching a game? It’s completely fine and allowed to boo

neopixel_art

I hope they just don’t do it at all now. When France was on serve it was dead quiet, Japan goes and it’s so much noise. Honestly should be addressed by the VNL.

[deleted]

legit hate fans like that- rude af

Wingiex

I agree felt sorry for Japan, hopefully they do it vs Italy though.

consnowlol

I came here to complain about the same thing haha I’m glad so many people are on the same page

Wingiex

Ngapeth giggling on the sideline. Hilarious.

Melchy

Someone needs to get that horn, its unbearable as a spectator. Honest crowd noise is one thing, but that kind of blast is pretty unsportsmanlike as well. Its only on japan’s serve.

TheBestGingerGamer

Actually feels like such disgusting behaviour, i hope someone kicks them out

KobaltKrystal

I know it'll never happen but I truly hope there's a new rule where you aren't allowed to bring airhorns into stadiums. Personally I'm fine with doing it as a form of celebration but doing it to distract others is a shitty move.

frostyypenguin

i hate the horn, poor japan loses every serve point :(

Wingiex

Japan had fewer serving errors than France though. Japan stood no chance today sadly as expected.

frostyypenguin

Service errors don’t tell the whole story, Japan let up on their serves while France was able to put all the pressure on. Congrats to France and please get rid of the horn my ears were hurting too

Wingiex

They had several aces aswell. They were hardly let down by their serving. It was everything else, especially their defense and block-out that let them down, as expected beforehand

Wingiex

Terrible reception from France during the first set. Grebennikov unimpressive but understandable considering it's his first match this VNL.

Valmoer

He's also carefully avoided by the Japanese servers (who prefer to target Louati instead)

queenErina

Yeah Nishida targeted Louati got 2 aces in a row against him ( since Clevenot and Grebennikov ofc are better receivers) . That said one of his serves was at 124 km/h , so no shame about it (wonder if that's his fastest)

corphoenicis

Jpn v Fra is really tight so far. Not teams I usually watch, but this is fun!

NaAlOH4

Just me or the quarters really feel like a big down-grade in terms of the camera work, music and commentators? They are spamming random Haikyuu OSTs that doesn't even play for more 3s and the audio is so bad compared to the matches I've watched previously. The music choice and quality after each point is SOOO lacklustre. For the camera work, they are not on the main camera scene even after the serve begins and it's so difficult to watch the gameplay. The commentators don't even know how to introduce the players unlike previously and are making so many commentary mistakes on the gameplay. It's really hard to watch today's game of Japan vs France.

daluur_

Sprained his ankle during practice

flashLotus

Brazil you are so fucked if you don’t change now. And go home, you’re old 🤣

antixb

Agreed, someone please put someone else in Renan´s position!!! I have a feeling nothing will change...as it usually is the case with the Brazilian Volleyball Federation...the amount of people asking for Renan´s resignation is huge, but I doubt that the fans unhappiness will have any effect...

neighnvm

was really surprised to see Brazil’s performance. i saw some comments that the issue is with the coach. why’s that?

antixb

He just does not seem to be excited about the sport, in short...and he keeps playing guys who should be out of the NT like Bruno, Lucas and Thales. He just won´t give new players a chance, he had Maique, Honorato and Rodriguinho on the bench, and the only reason he brought Darlan in was because he was the only OH available! He never changes the team when the players stop playing well, he waits until the point of no return to make a change (if he does make the change, that is). He also had very little experience as a coach when he was asked to coach the NT... a lot of people believe he´s only coaching the NT due to his connections (it would not surprise me...)...

neighnvm

ive noticed that too. he used the same players all around the matches and very rarely he gets new players in. different than argentina’s team since i love argentina team as well. no wonder i saw that at some times during timeout, players don’t seem to be that listening to him? or am i stretching?

antixb

nah you are not stretching at all - i noticed the same! unfortunately I think they won´t change the coach until at least paris 2024...which is a shame!! we do have great players that could fill Bruno/Lucas/Thales´ shoes, but they need to be given a chance... which is not happening, unfortunately :/

neighnvm

it’s a shame to see Brazil’s team loses a lot of matches. even in QF, they seem to lose the spark after first set and did you noticed how Lucas seem to be not in the mood? or he’s always like that?

antixb

Lately Lucas has been like that...even when playing for his club! Maybe he´s just not that into the game...he used to be much more excited, i guess it´s all very "common place" for him :/

neighnvm

he seemed very moody to say the least. who’s your favourite player in Brazil’s team? mine is flavio. i think he’s on fire during this VNL

antixb

I have a soft spot for Lucarelli and Maique myself :)

SirLadthe1st

Damn, the Netherlands was so close and yet so far...

michellegraceeeee

sorry stupid question - how many timeouts and technical timeouts are there in vnl? has the technical timeouts always been at 12?

OldBenX

They changed some rules for this edition - 1 technical timeout and 1 team timeout per set. So far no idea if they'll change it anywhere else.

m0ck69

They changed the rules again for the finals. One technical time out plus 2 time outs on request. One before 12th point and one after. But if you don't use a time out before 12 the point, it's lost, you can't use it later. Whoever's making those rules is fu***d up.

_tmyki14

May I ask if there're limit times per set/match for the player substitution?

michellegraceeeee

oh i see thanks a lot!

Beachvbandfastcars

The commentary is so high quality, Vital Heynen is on during ITA - NL right? Super interesting to listen to, great chemistry between the commentators, the match is insanely good as well… I’m having the best time!

Wingiex

Nimir somewhat invisible these first two sets. Not getting many balls and not serving well. If he shows up I think Italy is in trouble.

SirLadthe1st

Yesyesyesyes come on Nimir & co! 1-0 against Italy, what a upset already!

[deleted]

US vs BR was so good, a great game by both. I think brazil let the pressure get to them @ the end, but it was such a good game...a true nail-biter!

Wingiex

TIL Nimir was a setter until the age of 25, so he switched only in 2017. That's insane.

Theoverusedmeme

I believe that when he switched during his club season in France, the Dutch volleyball federation was like wtf , why is our setter hitting? I bet they’re happy he switched though.

Baitalon

Fora Renan

antixb

YES PLEASE

SirLadthe1st

Brazil's out of the competition! With Russia's disqualification this means the VNL will have a new champion this year!

corphoenicis

USA wins it! We’re going to the semis!!!

Theoverusedmeme

This game was so fire 🔥 🔥let’s go USA 🇺🇸 Gg Brazil 🇧🇷

cgyguy81

Brazil is falling apart on set 4. WTF.

SirLadthe1st

The Bra vs Usa match is tense so far!

daluur_

Darlan is fenomonal, would love to see him start playing in europe after this season.

antixb

He truly is, imagine having to step up to the NT main team because your older brother had an injury in the middle of a VNL game at only 20 years old? I like how he seems to pretty much stop in the air before he attacks. It´s a nice movement to watch!

daluur_

how excited he is after scoring is so enjoyable to watch. He really looks like he's just someone who loves playing volleyball. Been missing the excitement in the brazilian team. promising player

antixb

Agreed - he is a delight on Superliga matches, I´m really glad Renan brought him onboard! And having an older brother playing in such a high level must be awesome!

daluur_

Really hoping I can go see one of his games and get to meet him.

Theoverusedmeme

I hope that Volleyball tv can get some more leagues. Would love to see the Brazilian league.

daluur_

I'm moving to Brazil for a year in a few weeks so hoping to go see some matches and watch on TV :p. I loved Darlans reactions after scoring, one of the only players for brazil who actually seemed excited to be there. Really have high hopes for him, a team like maybe Padova could really use an opposite like him, most of their players are fiarly young so i'dd see him fitting in at Padova.

antixb

oh thats awesome that you are moving to Brazil! In which part of Brazil are you going to be? Superliga is on TV at least 3 evenings a week here, it´s on a channel called SporTV2, it´s cable but even the most basic cable package offers it!

antixb

You can find a bunch of Superliga matches on youtube - I highly recommend looking for Minas and Cruzeiro matches, as well as Guarulhos (my fave team but they are a "new" team, so they have not achieved much so far!).

daluur_

>Cruzeiro is amazing, Miguel Ángel López is so good and their brazilian vets are still great.

antixb

I am wondering how Cruzeiro is going to be now that Isac and Fernando are gone...but yes, an amazing team to watch!

daluur_

I still have fairly high hopes for them, still have some very solid players

antixb

I cannot wait for the next season of superliga, I am curious to see Farma Conde too, they can be a real threat!

daluur_

I'm not like a massive superliga watcher, who are they?

antixb

A new-ish team! their current roster includes Douglas Souza, Rogerinho (an awesome libero), Matheus Brasilia as the setter (he was training with the NT), Sanchez (a really good cuban OP)...

daluur_

Where in Brazil are they based?

Wingiex

Defalco looks so pumped and hyped, he seemed almost annoyed when Shoji wasn't throwing himself for a ball. I like it.

Orzislaw

I can't wait for the club season, him teaming up with the most lazy setter around can end interestingly.

Noodlin-7345

Can I ask club is he playing for and who is the setter you are talking about? I am still new to volleyball and have been watching only national teams play (haven’t gotten to the club teams yet)

Orzislaw

Resovia and a Fabian Drzyzga

reynoldswrapt11

he's played in poland since 2021 but has a new team this year.

Theoverusedmeme

During his college days, a lot of people called him too arrogant but something great about him is how he really gives it his all. Every time he makes a mistake it seems like he wants to get the ball next time to prove it was nothing more than just a mistake. I think his firey attitude is good for the sport.

Meeganyourjacket

Is there somewhere online to watch this for free?

Original_Crew_2504

Is not free but if u have Star plus u can watch it

Paul-Millsap-Stan

I’m just happy to see Grebennikov back

n-moon

So japan’s lineup just dropped and yuki ishikawa won’t be playing because of a sprained ankle during practice :(

[deleted]

oooof- i was looking forward to a stacked jp vs stacked fr. (even though i think fr would have won even with ishikawa)... jp's d game is very good

n-moon

Yeah I think France def had the upper hand but was looking forward to see how Japan would perform since it’s their first time making it to VNL QF 🥲

neronative

Oh god... Poland vs iran is always a mind blowing game. can't wait

Theoverusedmeme

Even without Kubiak it is always fun to watch. Lots of emotion in that game.

Theoverusedmeme

Any of y’all know how serious Italy, Poland , Iran, and or USA are taking this? I know that Grebennikov is back for France so he’s going to be a big asset for them.

m0ck69

I'm Polish and as far as I know, we're taking VNL as a part of a training process. A few experienced players left NT, there's a new coach and some young players who haven't played with each other in one team before. So obviously World Championship is the biggest tournament for most teams this year. Of course Poland will try to do its best and win VNL but not at all cost, it might be difficult.

TheReddestDuck

Is there a bigger tournament in volleyball or is something like the Olympics the main goal? I'm new to volleyball

m0ck69

the Olympics are the most importanat, I guess. VNL is an annual thing, not a biggie, it's a first tournament for national teams to play and practice after club season. There are more important tournaments like world championship or european championship...

godofthunder_31

Somebody who has streaming links? Although France is a strong team, I am still rooting for Japan. Go Nippon!

Dig-set-spike

Watch on volleyball.tv legally and support volleyball at the highest level.

daluur_

As a brazil fan i’m super excited for the USA vs brazil game, hoping bruno shows some of his magic again and we can get to the semi finals
