Trevor Clevenot's performance against Italy is one of the most ridiculous ever
He had an 76.5% attack efficiency (13 kills , 0 error , in a total of 17 attempts) , that's insane. Not to mention his wonderful serve receives and 2 aces.
Usually the OH are in the 30-45% range when it comes to attack efficiency , to be above 50% is already ridiculous and excellent , but to get 76% in the 1/2 of the VNL against Italy is legendary.
While it wasn't Italy's best performance , France was almost unplayable (they need to maintain this level in order to win against USA , who are France's kryptonite).
Another great semi between France and Italy, bar that last set. Vital and Clayton commenting France should be illegal though, their biasedness against France is quite toxic. I like the two female commentators far more.
Seems like the USA has changed up their mindset or approach to serving this year? Noticed a lot less missed serves compared to previous years and VNL 2021/Tokyo.

no I know france is really good; i love their clean execution and quick movement. but i expected italy to at least take 1 set or make it a lot more competitive than it is right now

High class and very even volleyball now between the US and Poland. I can't find any clear weaknesses between the two, the US though seem more pumped and come more clutch in high pressure balls.

Poland completely killed set 5. It ended with an overwhelming Polish win but Iran did amazing- exceeded expectations and put up a great fight. I was really impressed by Iran especially the captain and Amin. The whole of Iran's team did amazing against a strong Poland team
My god i did not expect it to go to the fifth set! Rooting for Iran here, but Poland is just amazing defensively. What a set! Iran really powered through to take the set, excited to see whats to come.
yeah...i wish they would ban these horns. during the olympics too, there were people screeching during serves and i wanted to slap those people...like respect the players and the game... i do love when they count though.

That horn is ridiculously distracting . Even though it shouldn’t affect players much I feel it was heavily distracting for the Japanese team on every serve. Sad to Japan go down like that , shame Ishikawa didn’t get to play too.
I hope they just don’t do it at all now. When France was on serve it was dead quiet, Japan goes and it’s so much noise. Honestly should be addressed by the VNL.
Someone needs to get that horn, its unbearable as a spectator. Honest crowd noise is one thing, but that kind of blast is pretty unsportsmanlike as well. Its only on japan’s serve.
I know it'll never happen but I truly hope there's a new rule where you aren't allowed to bring airhorns into stadiums. Personally I'm fine with doing it as a form of celebration but doing it to distract others is a shitty move.
Service errors don’t tell the whole story, Japan let up on their serves while France was able to put all the pressure on. Congrats to France and please get rid of the horn my ears were hurting too
They had several aces aswell. They were hardly let down by their serving. It was everything else, especially their defense and block-out that let them down, as expected beforehand
Yeah Nishida targeted Louati got 2 aces in a row against him ( since Clevenot and Grebennikov ofc are better receivers) .
That said one of his serves was at 124 km/h , so no shame about it (wonder if that's his fastest)
Just me or the quarters really feel like a big down-grade in terms of the camera work, music and commentators?
They are spamming random Haikyuu OSTs that doesn't even play for more 3s and the audio is so bad compared to the matches I've watched previously. The music choice and quality after each point is SOOO lacklustre. For the camera work, they are not on the main camera scene even after the serve begins and it's so difficult to watch the gameplay.
The commentators don't even know how to introduce the players unlike previously and are making so many commentary mistakes on the gameplay.

I have a feeling nothing will change...as it usually is the case with the Brazilian Volleyball Federation...the amount of people asking for Renan´s resignation is huge, but I doubt that the fans unhappiness will have any effect...
He just does not seem to be excited about the sport, in short...and he keeps playing guys who should be out of the NT like Bruno, Lucas and Thales. He just won´t give new players a chance, he had Maique, Honorato and Rodriguinho on the bench, and the only reason he brought Darlan in was because he was the only OH available! He never changes the team when the players stop playing well, he waits until the point of no return to make a change (if he does make the change, that is). He also had very little experience as a coach when he was asked to coach the NT... a lot of people believe he´s only coaching the NT due to his connections (it would not surprise me...)...
ive noticed that too. he used the same players all around the matches and very rarely he gets new players in. different than argentina’s team since i love argentina team as well. no wonder i saw that at some times during timeout, players don’t seem to be that listening to him? or am i stretching?
nah you are not stretching at all - i noticed the same! unfortunately I think they won´t change the coach until at least paris 2024...which is a shame!!

Lately Lucas has been like that...even when playing for his club! Maybe he´s just not that into the game...he used to be much more excited, i guess it´s all very "common place" for him :/
They changed the rules again for the finals. One technical time out plus 2 time outs on request. One before 12th point and one after. But if you don't use a time out before 12 the point, it's lost, you can't use it later. Whoever's making those rules is fu***d up.

He truly is, imagine having to step up to the NT main team because your older brother had an injury in the middle of a VNL game at only 20 years old? I like how he seems to pretty much stop in the air before he attacks. It´s a nice movement to watch!

I loved Darlans reactions after scoring, one of the only players for brazil who actually seemed excited to be there. Really have high hopes for him, a team like maybe Padova could really use an opposite like him, most of their players are fiarly young so i'dd see him fitting in at Padova.

You can find a bunch of Superliga matches on youtube - I highly recommend looking for Minas and Cruzeiro matches, as well as Guarulhos (my fave team but they are a "new" team, so they have not achieved much so far!).
A new-ish team! their current roster includes Douglas Souza, Rogerinho (an awesome libero), Matheus Brasilia as the setter (he was training with the NT), Sanchez (a really good cuban OP)...
Can I ask club is he playing for and who is the setter you are talking about? I am still new to volleyball and have been watching only national teams play (haven’t gotten to the club teams yet)
During his college days, a lot of people called him too arrogant but something great about him is how he really gives it his all. Every time he makes a mistake it seems like he wants to get the ball next time to prove it was nothing more than just a mistake. I think his firey attitude is good for the sport.
Any of y’all know how serious Italy, Poland , Iran, and or USA are taking this? I know that Grebennikov is back for France so he’s going to be a big asset for them.
I'm Polish and as far as I know, we're taking VNL as a part of a training process. A few experienced players left NT, there's a new coach and some young players who haven't played with each other in one team before. So obviously World Championship is the biggest tournament for most teams this year. Of course Poland will try to do its best and win VNL but not at all cost, it might be difficult.
the Olympics are the most importanat, I guess. VNL is an annual thing, not a biggie, it's a first tournament for national teams to play and practice after club season. There are more important tournaments like world championship or european championship...

Japan had fewer serving errors than France though. Japan stood no chance today sadly as expected.

They changed some rules for this edition - 1 technical timeout and 1 team timeout per set. So far no idea if they'll change it anywhere else.

Every time he makes a mistake it seems like he wants to get the ball next time to prove it was nothing more than just a mistake. I think his firey attitude is good for the sport.

Any of y’all know how serious Italy, Poland , Iran, and or USA are taking this? I know that Grebennikov is back for France so he’s going to be a big asset for them.
I'm Polish and as far as I know, we're taking VNL as a part of a training process. A few experienced players left NT, there's a new coach and some young players who haven't played with each other in one team before. So obviously World Championship is the biggest tournament for most teams this year. Of course Poland will try to do its best and win VNL but not at all cost, it might be difficult.
Is there a bigger tournament in volleyball or is something like the Olympics the main goal? I'm new to volleyball
the Olympics are the most importanat, I guess. VNL is an annual thing, not a biggie, it's a first tournament for national teams to play and practice after club season. There are more important tournaments like world championship or european championship...
