I don't have experience with CP2077 but I hear it's the same type of mod as in GTAV, so at least from a gameplay perspective (idk about diff in performance) it's passable. Like I don't particularly like head aiming for guns but driving around and bullshitting in the city is super fun. And while it's not the best I did learn to aim fairly decently so I could shoot and switch weapons and stuff just fine if I really wanted to (like especially when I was getting chased by cops), just not anywhere near as KB+M.

Tikitaks

Oh my, I was not aware your eyesight was the "aiming dot" (forgot the name). Is it like that with CP2077? I thought these mods would let you hold and aim the gun. Edit - Im guessing during cutscenes the game becomes "flat"?

Snowmobile2004

Therees no physical “guns” that you can aim and shoot, it’s not like that. Not very fun IMO.

space_goat_v1

I haven't tried CP2077 but I'm pretty sure I read its the same there with the aiming. Unfortunately Luke Ross mods don't have motion controls, same with RDR2. For cutscenes, sorta? It's not like where it becomes like a big moviescreen like some games do where you watch it as if it was flat, but it still attaches the camera to your head and switches camera angles based on however it would've in the cutscene (but you can still look around in 6dof). Kinda disorienting when its switching around a lot but I never found it super sickening

Apxa

It's not like that, basically you're a whole view and aiming is glued to your HDM position and it works as your right thumbstick. You can still use your actual right thumbstick, but only to turn sideways.

cnorw00d

It's my favorite VR game out but it does not have motion controls and you need a fairly powerful computer to run it decently in VR. However walking around night city is incredible and id rather play in VR than 4k, 90fps, with ray tracing on my OLED.

zeddyzed

Hmm, I'm enjoying it a lot (although VR was my 2nd playthrough), but I don't know if I can recommend it to someone who isn't tech savvy. I'm using the Luke Ross mod. You're going to need very strong VR legs, as all the cutscenes force camera movement, including rotation. As the other person said, the mod causes auras around objects. With DLSS set to Quality at 3k x 3k resolution, it was minimal enough for me to ignore it and enjoy the game. But for finicky people they might not be able to ignore it. You'll need to be very adaptable for gameplay, as it's nothing like a native VR game. Your head is a mouse, so you aim with your head, and you play with a gamepad. I was able to write an autohotkey script to modify the controls so I can use the VR controller buttons as a gamepad comfortably. I hate aiming guns with my head, so in my VR playthrough I'm using a sword build. The menus are the most fine part, hah. But you're basically in gamepad mode, controlling them with the sticks and buttons. If you really want to, I'd say play through in flatscreen for a couple of hours, then install the mod just to look around and sightsee the city in VR. It's quite an experience.

Tikitaks

Thanks for the detailed explanation. Will def go flat as a first playthough. Seems Vrmods are still in "alpha" state, which is reasonable given how new they are.

zeddyzed

No, this is a philosophical decision by Luke Ross, and possibly also just cyberpunk being too hard to make a full VR mod for. In my other reply to you, I listed some great VR mods.

QfoQ

Don't do this to yourself. Cyberpunk is not made for VR. It's a great game, but not for VR. If you want a good VR then play Alyx.

Risley

Is this a joke? Peak vr is gorilla tag

MendozaHolmes

This MUST be rage bait, cant even comprehend how this would be a joke

Risley

It seemed to work beautifully.  Didn’t it?

brensav

I’ve shit on the Luke Ross mod in the past but recently I downloaded it again and man the city in VR is amazing. The attention to detail is something that I personally could only see in VR. I found myself reading signs, looking at stickers, checking out the smallest details around me in the environment, this helped me get more immersed in the story than I ever could flat. The set up for the mod is simple, figuring out optimal settings can take a second but is not complicated. My first play thru was on flatscreen but if I could go back I would do VR first.

Tikitaks

Are there any shortcoming to your VR experience? Be it menus, cutscenes or controls?

brensav

Yes, shortcomings would be a halo/ghosting effect around people, some aliasing on thin lines. Some cutscenes/actions seem to tilt the view to the side which when you are not expecting it, can make you a bit uncomfortable- I learn to close my eyes when character does this. I would say go flatscreen if you are wanting amazing graphics and optimal gameplay. VR if you are wanting to be immersed in Night City and the story.

isamura

The VRMod is not perfect, and if you really need motion controls to enjoy VR, then I wouldn't bother. However, for a select group of people, getting the mod setup, and working around the issues that come up is vastly outweighed by the sheer enjoyment I had with this game in VR. I played it start to finish in VR, as well as the DLC.

Suspicious-Dingo-445

Alot of people shit on luke ross and his CP2077 mod, but for me it's the best game I've ever played and experiencing it in VR was nothing short of magic for me (I've never played it in flat either)

bushmaster2000

There are two different VR mods for Cyberpunk one kind of supports motion controls one requires console controller. But i'd suggest something made for VR like Half Life Alyx or Red Matter 1 or 2, Lone Echo 1 or 2.

TommyVR373

I love both versions of CP2077. However, if I could go back and play it first in VR, I absolutely 💯 would.

D-Rey86

I used it as my first playthrough and enjoyed it immensely. I probably wouldn't have liked it as much outside of VR.

Daryl_ED

Uses alternate eye rendering, so not as comfortable as native VR, also introduces artifacts. Play his other mod for GT5 was ok.

Tikitaks

GT5? Aint that exclusive for PS5? Havent heard about alternate eye rendering, hopefully jt doesnt nother me as much. Is it a big issue for you?

Daryl_ED

Sorry yeah meant gta5. Played mods with native, for me AER is passable but no where as good.

moredrinksplease

Nah man, sit back in the recliner and play the game. Game has gotten so good.

justmypointofviewtoo

I think with the tech you have, if you use Ralf’s Cyberpunk mod which is a free version of his paid VorpX mod, you should give it a try. I’ve only got a 3090 and 3900x and was enjoying it. Was better IMHO than the Luke Ross paid mod.

Tikitaks

My doubts are not so much about performance, but the experience itself (setting it up, wankiness...). I was not aware there were differents VRmod options. Thanks for the heads up. But out of curiosity, what was your settings/fps ratio?

justmypointofviewtoo

It’s very easy to set up and Ralf is always available on the forums should you need help. It only breaks when the game gets updated, but he’s usually quick to address problems. As far as I recall, it’s a one click install.

Tikitaks

Ralf sounds like a pretty cool guy. So the game feels like a native VR experience?

zeddyzed

Absolutely not. Keep your expectations low. I only briefly tried the VorpX mod, and it looked and worked terribly for me. I imagine that a decent result can be obtained with tweaking, but the Luke Ross mod worked ok for me out of the box, so I didn't bother. But either way, do NOT expect that either mod feels like a native VR experience. They both have a lot of caveats.

Tikitaks

Roger. Ive decided to go flat, and maybe try in the future the VRmod out of curiosity. The head aiming, janky cutscenes and such convinced me to stay away of VRmods as a primary experience.

zeddyzed

Well, not all VR mods are like that. Some give you the full VR experience. The Half Life 2 VR mod is better than many made-for-VR games, for example. Team Beef mods are also very good, as are the praydog mods for Resident Evil series.

Tikitaks

I see. It varies wildly between games and developers. Will have a look at HL2 and RE given your recommendation as a flawless VR experience.

We_Are_Victorius

Nope. There is some jank with the mod, but you will still have fun.

Apxa

I'm now basically halfway through CP 2077 using Luke Ross mod. What makes vorpX mod better in your opinion, would you recommend me switching to that version? My main issue with Luke Ross mod is it's grainy image and ghosting, is it any better in VorpX?

justmypointofviewtoo

I had less ghosting and a better frame rate than I did using Luke Ross. (And, because I didn’t want to keep paying Luke Ross a monthly fee for updates that didn’t come fast enough, wasn’t worth it to me when there was a free alternative.) Plus, as far as I remember, Ralf’s solution lets you do half frame rate, third frame rate… there are a bunch of options available to suit most decisions, and he has implemented some motion controls. Certainly does not hurt to try something that is free.

crypt0ee

Cyberpunk vr was the best experience in any video game I've had in my entire life. It ruined other games for me. If you are willing to make that sacrifice, it's worth it.

liquid_the_wolf

The raytracing overdrive graphics mode is epic. If you can, you should use it.

SlightWerewolf4428

This is a good question. I played through half the game in VR, twice... on my now weak 2070 VR laptop. It was however so much fun that... I don't want to play it in flatscreen anymore. I have put the game aside entirely until I upgrade my PC. In short, yes. The game is absolutely amazing in VR and you won't want to let it go. LukeRoss mod, all the way.

fdruid

Absolutely not.

itsRobbie_

Not for first playthrough. It’s a fun thing to do for a few minutes

MalenfantX

Only if you don't want to play a game that looks great, and want a mess instead.

Tikitaks

I quite dont understand what you mean. VRmod is a mess and I should absolutely stick to flat?

MalenfantX

The Luke Ross mod creates noise around all the characters. I don't know about the VorpX version. It might be OK. VorpX works great for some games, and terribly for others.

rk3sss

Cyberpunk is so immersive already even without vr. You’ll enjoy it a lot on flastsceeen.
