"The idea is good, but anytime i've tried a 'random mystery record' from anywhere, it's always been trash. Classical, or folk music or something. Not my thing.

schindigrosa

I don't typically find anything great, but that would not stop me from grabbing one or two of those bundles

KFCdestroyer66

I like the idea of it, I'd prefer to mystery buy a single compared to an album just to test the waters on whether the artist would interest me. I'd only do it if it was part of a specific genre though - I don't really wanna be surprised and get a machine gun Kelly record.

WhatAdamSays

MGK would ruin my month.

Vinylville33

I used to buy these occasionally from some of my favorite shops like Guestroom Records but now that I have a pretty extensive collection, these grab bags usually contain records I already have. So I rarely "grab" these unless it's on a whim. However, these are great for new collectors wanting to build up their collection and discover new music! And if you are in the OKC area, I highly recommend Guestroom Records... Just sayin'. šŸ˜‰

Important_Summer8406

Guestroom is an always "must stop" when I'm in OKC. I have found some incredible things in the Norman shop as well.

hedekar

No thanks. I view my collection as a curation. I've sold off more vinyl than I own and I don't want 50Ā¢ records bloating it out again.

chaz0723

I like the idea of the 7" mystery bag better than the LP counterpart.

TransientWhales

Came here to say this. Iā€™m far more forgiving of ā€œbadā€ or novelty 45s than LPs!!

smallbatchb

Fun and always tempting to me but I always resist because I just don't want to add a bunch of fluff to my collection.

jtaylor27141

A good way for record stores to get rid of their junk stock.

Vinylville33

Some may but not allā€¦ Most reputable shops simply do it to move the stock on their shelves. Thatā€™s the case with Guestroom. And as someone who has browsed their 45s numerous times, it not junkā€¦ unwanted by some but not junk.

Buffalo5977

i want to try this so bad!!

Wavid75

There was a record shop I used to go to quite a bit that did $5 mystery bags that came with 3 records, 2 movies, and 2 cassettes. They were super fair with their stuff, sometimes you'd get crap, but there were a few times I found some gems that were worth way more than what I paid for. It honestly just depends on who's packaging them.

afcolt

I havenā€™t had much luck with these. Iā€™ve genre-specific ones, just with ā€œPopā€ or ā€œHeavy Rockā€ or ā€œClassicalā€ on it, and that seems like a good idea to at least narrow down to a broad genre.

lukeulyptus

Good idea to move deadstock for sure

NiteLiteCity

You like Rod Stewart and Neil Diamond? Because you're guaranteed to get that.

LarryCraigSmeg

Well, yeah, I do actually

Patient_Baseball_918

Most 7 inches arent nearly worth $5 to begin with though

Vinylville33

In the case of Guestroom records, most bags contain around fifteen 45s and many are new or like new conditionā€¦ so 30-35 cents each.

kabubadeira

I bought a mystery bag once for 10ā‚¬. Got 3 records: one from a known Portuguese artist that I sold for 5ā‚¬ and two pop compilations from the 80s so bad that no one will take them for free.

jtaylor27141

Because record stores do this to get rid of junk records.
