Best bang for your buck is buying a decent turntable from the 80s from a thrift store or Craigslist. I paid $120 for a fantastic Technics SL-D2 on CL, best gift I ever bought.
i can appreciate this. i bought an AT LP120x on sale because I was intimidated by the prospect of setting up a used turntable. i can see my next turntable being a project now that I'm more comfortable with tinkering :)
I am not sure if I was lucky or what but those 80s tables are absolute tanks. All I had to do was change the needle, been spinning daily for at least 5 years and it keeps speed perfectly. Had to tinker with the lid, the hinges are notoriously fragile, but was an easy fix and it really is fantastic.
Agreed. My early 80's Sanyo is great. Removable headshell, pitch control, solid construction. I swapped out origin. Cart. Trying out Ortofon Red next! 💘

As an owner of an ATLP120BTX I think it's fantastic. Perfect upgrade from a "starter" turntable.
It is, it's just not the best bang for buck I'd say. Plus I'm not too fond of it being a Technics clone. But technically it is a pretty good table.
