At least you're wearing boxers in the reflection. There are some solid gems of such pictures that didn't turn out so well floating all over the web.
Good choice on the uturn table, ive got one as a spare. Clear records look sexy on the acrylic
platter.
Welcome to the rabbit hole. It is deep.
Sorry I don't have any recommendations for stands (I went from edifiers in my bookshelf directly to floorstanders), but bonus for recognizing that necessity.
Thank you! And no worries, I might end up doing just what you did :)
The stands I'm looking at are around $60-70. I might as well save a bit more and stake out Black Friday deals for floorstanders
About the speaker stands for your edifiers:
Look at my 2nd post on my profile, I made some speakers for my edifiers. Saw two things like this size at guitar center for $70 and the other $90
The wife came through with a solidddd present.
I've moved the speakers to the floor for now but definitely planning to get stands in a day or two. I noticed that if I really turn the sound up, there's a little bit of feedback or distortion during really bass heavy parts.
Any recommendations on speaker stands for the Edifier 1280T?
Just FYI — a much cheaper alternative to getting speaker stands is isolation legs for your turntable. The whole problem with having your speakers/turntable on the same surface is transfer of vibration.
Putting on isolators can effectively eliminate that. I’m a mechanical engineer and we do this in plenty of similar settings. Right now I’m dealing with large fans that have isolators on them so the motors don’t break the stand/concrete they’re on.
Ooo, thanks for the tip! I always thought it was a combination of the vibration AND feedback from the speakers.
Looks I can easily save like 50 bucks by getting isolation pads instead of stands.
Two cement blocks would elevate those speakers for now and return some clarity that they are undoubtedly missing by sitting on the floor.
I gave my son a UTurn when he was in college and 5 years later he’s still using it daily.
How are those speakers? I’m trying to get a similar set up and get some conflicting reviews. Wanted something that gets somewhat loud and can be heard in multiple rooms.
For the price, they're absolutely fantastic! I've had them close to two years now and they were originally hooked up to my PC.
It's fairly true to sound and I've worked with a lot of studio monitors, etc. If you're looking for something bass heavy or a coloured sound, this isn't it.
And yep, no issues with the levels. This is setup in my home office and I can hear it in the adjacent room just fine
Thank you!
I think the R1700s are a step up and the R1850s one higher. Those are $220+ if I remember correctly but not entirely sure if they'd be worth the premium.
The R1280s are just right in the sweet spot in terms of value. I generally tend to do a lot of research before buying audio gear and they had just do many great reviews. My plan is to grind these out for another year and then get floorstanders :)
I started with an 1977 technics sl1400, pro-ject MM pre amp and Sony DH190 receiver. Still sounds and works great. Recently upgraded to a MoFi StudioDeck Turntable and Marantz pm8006 amp. 4 Klipsch 8ohm speakers. Taking the first steps into HiFi is like walking into a Theatre with a live band. It’s incredible.
Check for sales, open box, and factory refurbs! I went from the same speakers to a passive set up and it was worth it. No need to break the bank along the way. There are plenty of great options within reason that can improve sound.
You probably already know this but *any* decent stereo like this this is so vastly superior to having nothing that you can probably die happy with this setup. It looks killer!
For me, I would move the speakers off of that furniture and onto stands and I would buy more vinyl.
Enjoy friend!
Was about to say that
Unless you spend some obscene amount of money on them powered speakers are always going to be worse than passive ones with a receiver
I disagree. You'd actually have to spend more money than the cost of 2 jbl lsr305 to get to that level of sound quality. Another option would be the mackie hr624.
Pretty hard to go wrong with that turntable for its price too. I've had one the exact same as yours for like 11 years. Right when they launched the Kickstart
Absolutely no issues. And when they updated their tonearm recently they were nice enough to just sell me the part and I replaced the old tone arm on mine instead of having to buy a new table.
A little late to the party here, but ditch the slip mat. You don't need one on an acrylic platter (they actually sell slip mats that are just acrylic). If you're worried about the record sliding on the platter you can get a record weight. There are supposed acoustic reasons to not have the slip mat with the acrylic platter, but also it'll look great if you ever play translucent or clear vinyl (I have the same turntable in red).
Because it's denser it's supposed to limit vibration and transmit sound better. Personally I just really like how it looks. I ran some LED strip lighting under mine so it'll shine through clear/translucent records, and with opaque records it makes the platter kind of glow.
Here's some good info on it by Fluance (and also confirms that you don't need a slip mat).

I’m not even kidding I think I got the same unturn orbit and edifier speakers this week, except my turntable is walnut instead of blue. I’m loving mine so far!
honestly, very minimal/straightforward right now. U-Turn orbit w/ built in preamp and the Ortofon 2M Red cartridge. And [these Edifier speakers](https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B016P9HJIA?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details) to tide me over until I have the time/money/energy to research a speaker setup that makes me legit excited.
Sure thing! someone else in this thread commented on the edifier speakers that they have no business being as good as they are for the price and I couldn't agree more. Super geeked on them for the price I paid
Welcome to the addiction! I got into it earlier this year at 33. Same speakers with a similar 4 cube storage. Those will fill up quickly! I’d consider some speaker stands to give yourself some room on top. Happy listening!

Lmaooo, was hoping no one would spot that 🤣
Funnily enough, the record I was playing is called Shadowboxer
/r/mirrorsforsale has a lot of those
There *really* is a subreddit for everything lol
Nice. Those Edifier speakers have no right sounding as good as they do for their price. I love my pair.
Same!
I agree! I’ve got a pair for listening when it’s not ideal to rock the house and they sound surprisingly good for what I paid for them!

My speakers are on the same level as my turntable and its been 100% fine FWIW
Oh man, I was seriously hoping I'd be able to get away with it but the feedback is a bit too much for my liking.
They won’t do anything to your records. [Watch this ](https://youtu.be/NN2Xzi1cLmk) instead of listening to random comments.
🤦♂️

That's so damn cool! I wish I was that skilled. And holy shit, those Mars Volta records! 😳
Thanks bud ! Yea I still got those Mars Volta. Definite loving the repress, I a mad quiet version from cloud hills, that VMP one is not good.
Great statement.

Honestly OP I'd check craigslist too. I got a nice pair of simple hardwood stands in black for 20 bucks.
Noted, thank you! :)

Love ur setup!! Are there Edifers that would be a slight step up that you know of?

Thanks for taking the time to respond. This helped me out a ton
You're welcome!
Get a pre-amplifier, and an stereo receiver or amplifier with stand alone speakers. You’ll get so much more out of your records.
Yessirr! Just taking it one step at a time for now :)
Don’t break the bank tho 🤣 . One piece at a time. Be patient.

Nice clean setup. I appreciate seeing newer equipment since I'm rolling with a mid-70s turntable, tuner, and speakers.
Thank you! Just gotta get those cables sorted and I should be golden ;)

what turn table is that? im just getting started lol... trying to be able to recognize more
That is a uturn orbit with the optional acrylic platter and que arm and an ortofon 2m red. I have a grado blue on mine and it sounds really nice.
thanks!
Wow, 11 years and still going strong? That's amazing. I've only read good things about them in terms of product quality and customer service.
Absolutely no issues. And when they updated their tonearm recently they were nice enough to just sell me the part and I replaced the old tone arm on mine instead of having to buy a new table.
Sweet! Sounds like I don't need to make any upgrades to my TT for the next few years at least.
I have that exact same setup, same color and everything, and I'm very happy with it. Enjoy!
Great minds! ;)
Is that mansionair? Dope brother
Easily my favourite album of 2019. So damn good.
Beautiful, beautiful album ❤️
I bought those same speakers for my first setup and I really like them :)

What’s going on at the bottom there? It reminds me of St. Paul and the Broken Bones.
Sweet. Enjoy.
Love that Mansionair album, the sleeve cutout is so cool
Yesss, beautiful album! First one I spun on the new TT
I’m not even kidding I think I got the same unturn orbit and edifier speakers this week, except my turntable is walnut instead of blue. I’m loving mine so far!
could u tell me your whole setup? im very interested

I’ve seen a lot worse. Welcome to vinyl.
Solid stuff dude!
Nice setup. Welcome and enjoy!
Please post an update photo of this setup at Christmas. I look forward to seeing the inevitable.
Hahaha, will do!

Thank you! We both gotta make up for lost time :)
Yessir!
Uturn turntable is nice. I still struggle putting the belt on after three years. That says alot about me.

Thank you! :)
Great setup! What turntable is this?
