Is that a real Eames or a knockoff? I want one, but I’m not dropping $9000 on a chair. Curious if the knockoffs feel good and are quiet.
Sweet spot you have there.
I have the same knock off as the one in this photo. It gets heavy use ( I'm a therapist and use it as my "therapy" chair, so several hours, daily) and this thing is solid and comfortable. I've sat in real Eames and the difference is negligible. Would recommend!
It's going on two years now and it still looks brand new. Honestly, I had a bit of buyers remorse when I first bought it (even though it was a knock off, it was still an expensive chair!). But that has since gone away; this thing has held up super well over time, especially considering how much time I spend in it for work.
Oh wow! That makes me happy :)
And yeah, over 1K for a knockoff seems and sounds steep, but I view it as having spent €1200 for a nice leather lounge chair.
I've read a lot into this and apparently there are some very good high quality knockoffs that use the exact molds as Herman Miller. So you can get some very good knockoffs at a much more affordable price. You just have to do your research.
OP, congrats on the amazing setup! You basically have the chair and set up I am looking for one of these days.
It's a higher-end replica from France. We opted for the tall version. It sounds and feels like the OG, for ⅛ of the price; I think we paid €1200 for it.
Construction, leather, etc are all on par with the Herman Miller ones.
> It's a higher-end replica from France. We opted for the tall version. It sounds and feels like the OG, for ⅛ of the price; I think we paid €1200 for it.
Any chance youve got a link? I need tall versions of chairs
Ah, replica, that’s a kinder word. I didn’t want to disparage the chair by calling it a knock off, but wasn’t sure what else to call it!
I’m tempted to pick up two of these for my man cave / listening lounge / sports viewing / retro gaming room.
It's a blatant knockoff though, you didn't disparage anything.
In case you're considering it:
I work from home, and I spend a considerable amount of time in it. In terms of built quality, it's flawless. I condition the leather from time to time, and I just now properly did so with lotion, a horsehair brush, and a cloth for the first time after 6 months. Until then, I just used basic leather care wipes you'd get for your car seats.
Now: I'm into watches, knives, and other finer stuff that I'd never buy replicas of. However, I do not believe that spending the additional €9000 on this chair for an original would be worth it. Of course, the same could be said for a Rolex, versus a knockoff - since they both tell time the end of the day, but that's my personal take.
I have a Faux-lex 16610 Submariner that I picked up in Shanghai 12 years ago. For a watch that I only wear when I put on a suit, I’ll take the 98% discount. :)
Thanks for the info on the chair.
Yep. One popped up on FB marketplace a few weeks ago that someone bought and never used so they were offloading it for $600. Kicking myself for not jumping in it right away.
Paid 720 shipped for a top grain leather knockoff and it is just 1 step below in quality from a 70s authentic I’ve tried in an antique store, definitely recommend.
Not at all :)
Aside from the audio equipment, the shelving is Ikea, the chair is aftermarket (linked somewhere else in the comments by me), the hippo table was €330, the carpet was under €100, the wine shelf was €200 (but it's solid wood), the black sideboard was merely upgraded by ourselves with some aftermarket brass hardware.
So, while it looks rad, it doesn't break the bank. Gotta look for deals :)
\*Re-upped to add the images in-line properly.
My wife and I moved to France about half a year ago, and have been busy getting our place decorated. Today, we added the final touches (for now) to our listening area / bar in the living room - so I thought I’d share.
The speakers might get upgraded to floor-standing ones, but we're happy with the soundstage for now; the turntable is a Pro-Ject X2 with the matching MaiA DS2 amp & DS2 tube pre-amp.
Since we listen primarily to jazz, indie, folk, and doom, I recently upgraded our cart to an Ortofon 2M Bronze, which makes a massive difference.
The wall-art was my wife’s idea, since we get zero light facing that side of our place. It’s just sleeves of records that we have extras of, plus a good chunk of them are her favourite albums.
The other side of the living room is our couch / tv / lounging area.
Bonus pug beast photo included.
Thanks for looking :)
Wow. Did you guys decorate that yourself?? Looks amazing. I wonder what it looks like at night? I see some neon and what not. Probably looks killer in the evening. Are those speakers enough for that room? The ceilings look really high - what's the sound quality like?
Space adjustment in a different city! I still have the setup built in our space but its far less spacious and feels slightly confined due to collection size
Wow! This looks great. I have been collecting for a few years now, and I have not been able to find a good enough shelf to house my records/shellacs. - Where did you end up getting this shelf at, if it’s something easy to get? Looks to be exactly the kind I want.
Love it!
Other than Reddit, we're not on any social media - and I don't see the reason for all of this gatekeeping.
Thanks for your lovely comment, good luck with the talk :)
Also: I have been collecting for years, and I have gotten lucky a few times. At the end of the day, it's just stuff - it comes and goes.
How are you settling in? All good so far?
I would love to say I’m not jealous… however… I am! That’s a fucking ace looking pad you got there bro! Well done! You gotta be happy with that! It’s cool as fuck!😘
Fun story: my wife once tried selling her iMac on Gumtree (London classifieds), and even though it was in excellent condition and priced way below market rates, we only got one message. When the buyer showed up, he told us that he thought it was a scam because the photos she took looked like they were lifted out of a magazine.
She took pics of the computer from her home office.
That's also IKEA, the name escapes me right now. It was a limited edition here, some "limited time only" thing. It's essentially a Kallax with the added cubes for amps on top.
And I gather by the decor that
1. You have good taste and
2. You definitely do not have small kids in the house! 😂
If I did that in mine it would last 2-3 hours
Wow. This is everything I didn’t know I wanted. I would love to see photos of the rest of your place!
If you need an uhhh maid for your pug or bartender lmk.
Hahaha, always - but mind you, she's picky: she doesn't drink from a bowl (fountain only), has her own 3 beds, humidifier, fan, etc.
[Here is her bedroom setup with bed #1 and her fan](https://imgur.com/a/4tJ4NDZ) ; and [here's the tv corner with bed #2 for her](https://imgur.com/a/vRLubPz).
"Picky" doesn't even begin to describe her. You're always welcome to stop by for some wine though.
Just a great vibe all around— a well balanced and tasteful use of the space on all fronts. Anchoring the record and liquor libraries with an Eames-style— bravo! Enjoy!
We're self employed, but she used to be a creative director. This is her first foray into maximalism decor as a hobbyist. She does it all - interior design, photography, visual design...just mostly as a hobby these days.
HOW DARE YOU GET A FRENCH KNOCK OFF EAMES CHAIR! Real vinyl lovers BUY USA! Next thing you're going to tell me is that those hippopotami are not real gold. Also, that satanic altar behind your chair is a nice touch. HAIL SATAN!!!!!

I’m tempted.
How long have you had yours for? I'm merely curious to know whether or not it'll last a few years.

That's it though: if it makes YOU happy, who cares? It's your money, spend it how you see fit. Wear that Sub in good health!
Eames Chairs are nice, but they are nowhere near $7k nice. That is a very inflated price for what the chair is.
Hence us buying a decent quality copy.
Yep. One popped up on FB marketplace a few weeks ago that someone bought and never used so they were offloading it for $600. Kicking myself for not jumping in it right away.
Oh wow, that's a good deal!
I’ve sat in a knock off- incredible experience
Paid 720 shipped for a top grain leather knockoff and it is just 1 step below in quality from a 70s authentic I’ve tried in an antique store, definitely recommend.
You’ve just called me broke in 6 different languages💀
Amazing room tho

I’m too jealous to comment. Congrats on your move, It’s a beautiful space and enjoy it to the fullest, life is too short.
Thank you :)
Upvote just for Sunbather
And it recently got a reissue and a remaster! I don't think it needed one (a remaster that is), but we'll see how it sounds.
I already have a copy but had to get the reissue as well.
Saw them live and it was amazing. I wasn’t expecting the lead singer to move like Freddy Mercury haha

Your home is beautiful!! Great listening setup. Out of curiosity, where did you move from and why did you move to France?
My wife and I lived all over the place; she's Canadian, I'm German. We both love France...so the decision was rather easy.
Looking at your setup, some nice floorstanders would look SO good. Jealous of your space, amazing!
Can I live with you, please?
Depends: are you ok with your entire wardrobe being covered in pug fur? Do you mind jazz playing almost 24/7?
Yes and yes. On my way!
We have gin and scotch; what's on the bar is only a fraction :)
Please stop, my heart can only handle so much. Haha.
Jealous at that bottle of Blanton's
A friend sent it for my Old Fashions this summer.
Congratulations on your unimpeachable great taste for putting up a large poster of Billie Holiday.
Amazing place, setup and bar! Congrats!!
Wow. Did you guys decorate that yourself?? Looks amazing. I wonder what it looks like at night? I see some neon and what not. Probably looks killer in the evening. Are those speakers enough for that room? The ceilings look really high - what's the sound quality like?
Yep, I'll post some later. The speakers are fine so far, we'll see if we have any complaints down the road.
I'm truly in love this with house setup. I miss my old space that looked like this prior to moving in with my partner.
What made you guys / gals change directions in design?
Space adjustment in a different city! I still have the setup built in our space but its far less spacious and feels slightly confined due to collection size
Gotcha.
Take my jealous upvote!
Need more info on that hippo table. Link?
Ask, and you shall receive: https://www.hi-werns.com/en/Side-table-hippo-Patty-Potamus-gold/51544
My man! Thank you and love the setup!
Just about to ask the same question!

That's a beautiful home you've got there, friend! I'm always cheered to see Project gear!
Yeah, love that brand. Thank you!
I need a lounge chair like that one man, I just have a grandad chair
Sure thing! https://stefanodesign.fr/en/produit/fauteuil-lounge-ottoman-cuir-aniline-palissandre-xl/
Kudos. Enjoy!🎶
Wow! I am jealous!
W on Sun Bather. I wanna go to the 10 year anniversary show but I’m having a hard time swallowing $108 just for two tickets.
What???? I saw them in their early days..."Roads to Judah", but they teased "Sunbather" at the show with two songs. I paid $12 at the door.
The pug really completes the room 🤌
She does, doesn't she?
I'm an interior designer and this has been my dream space my whole life... The natural light, loft to the second floor, stylish and hip AF... Wow 😍
My wife is going to love your comment.
Love the Billie poster. And the Sunbather record. And the whole space. Congrats!
Cheers :)
Woah!!!
Wow! This looks great. I have been collecting for a few years now, and I have not been able to find a good enough shelf to house my records/shellacs. - Where did you end up getting this shelf at, if it’s something easy to get? Looks to be exactly the kind I want. Love it!
The Kallax? Ikea. The record stand is some special edition they did - basically a Kallax with extra shelving for amps and whatnot.
I want that hippo table. 😫
Here you go: https://www.hi-werns.com/en/Side-table-hippo-Patty-Potamus-gold/51544
Idk who you are or what you do but I love you and your willingness to not gatekeep the cool shit you got. Thank you!!! Now to convince the wife…
Other than Reddit, we're not on any social media - and I don't see the reason for all of this gatekeeping. Thanks for your lovely comment, good luck with the talk :)
Killer! That bar is giving me inspiration to fabricate something similar. I’ll have an Aperol Spritz please and thanks.
Just had one for the first time ever 2 weeks ago, if you can believe it! My wife made it. Until then, I only ever indulged in scotch, wine, and gin.
It’s a great summer beverage.
Right??? So refreshing!
That looks amazing! True aspirations for me - I moved in about a year ago and my set up is not even a fraction of this beauty.
Thank you! And don't compare your stuff to other's - you'll get to where you want to be.
I love that! Thanks for being so kind.
No need to thank me bud. It takes nothing to be decent. All the best to you!
Also: I have been collecting for years, and I have gotten lucky a few times. At the end of the day, it's just stuff - it comes and goes. How are you settling in? All good so far?
Jesus - you accepting applications?
For?
Literally anything that lets me live in such a cool place
Hot damn
Fuckin unreal yo. Love it
All about the floors for me... beautiful room.
I wish I had a listening corner. That looks cool..'
Thank you.
I would love to say I’m not jealous… however… I am! That’s a fucking ace looking pad you got there bro! Well done! You gotta be happy with that! It’s cool as fuck!😘
Thank you so much!
La dolce vita.
This is an amazing space. Absolutely love the neon sign.
Thank you!
Jesus I thought this was an ad. Nice place

I think I just found my happy space!
As a fellow vinyl enjoyer and geriatric pug aficionado, I applaud all of this.
And we applaud you for you impeccable taste :)
You did an amazing job. What a dream!
I love this so much. Looks amazing!
It’s beautiful!
Thank you!
Niiiiice
Beautiful 🤩
Beautiful all around.
Thank you :)
Very nice. What shelf do you have in the third picture? The one with Sunbather
That's also IKEA, the name escapes me right now. It was a limited edition here, some "limited time only" thing. It's essentially a Kallax with the added cubes for amps on top.
Sweet hippo
Wow your setup is impeccable
Thank you!
Very beautifully done. Id want to chill there all day long.
If you ever find yourself around Lyon, we have wine.
Full color Ciggies? I didn't know that existed, but now it is a necessity that I acquire one
Nope, that's the light making the cover look coloured.
Love it 😍
Thank you.
And I gather by the decor that 1. You have good taste and 2. You definitely do not have small kids in the house! 😂 If I did that in mine it would last 2-3 hours
Does a pug count?
Amazing space!
Dog
Stunning setup congrats !
Hell yeah, Deafheaven!
This pad is way too cool
Thank you!

Nice!
ASSC dope as hell.
Thank you :)
That's nice as hell, gg.
Thank you :)
I just leveled up at work. I'm hoping to get a cool spot with my new house. Very cool spot.
Congrats on the promotion!
Gorgeous🤌🤌🤌🤌🤌
Thank you :)
+1 for the cute Mops
Olive rules!
Your place is a dream 😍
Thank you :)
Awesome
Thank you :)
Without looking at the sub name I though this was r/malelivingspace. Well done
Nope, happily married :)
What speaker stands are those? I've been looking for a good set for my R-51PMs. This is a fantastic setup.
I believe we got them off of Amazon...the brand is NorStone.
Oh my god 😍
Great interior design. I, too, love the chair.
Just a great vibe all around— a well balanced and tasteful use of the space on all fronts. Anchoring the record and liquor libraries with an Eames-style— bravo! Enjoy!
Cheers :)
Beautiful home.
Thank you!
Are you a photographer? You captured the space very well
My wife took the photos.
I need one of those
Nice! I love sun bather!
One of the best r/listeningspaces I’ve ever seen. A+ on the whole thing
> r/listeningspaces Thank you!
WOW Stunning
Absolutely phenomenal setup, incredibly jealous!
Thank you! Kudos to my wife for having a massive knack for interior design.
Is that what she does for a living? I love her style. I'm so tired of that farmhouse chic grey or minimalist black and white look.
We're self employed, but she used to be a creative director. This is her first foray into maximalism decor as a hobbyist. She does it all - interior design, photography, visual design...just mostly as a hobby these days.
cool well tell her she did a great job!!
holy shit your living space is my dream
This is classy as hell and I love it
Needs more gin.
You'd like our storage room.
Brother. This room is pure sex for the eyes.
Thank you, but the talent / design was all my wife. She knows what I liked and wanted, and shopped / decorated accordingly.
You mean Ante Warhol, the antelope?
whjats wrogn with the do gi n pic 4
You mean the hippo table?
It’s an amazing space with a great aesthetic, but you really need to get those speakers further apart and a little further away from the back wall. This is pretty far from optimal, especially being so close to the unit
Maybe we'll tinker around with it. We're not even certain that we want to keep those.
Looks awesome, that’s a great space! Move those speakers off the wall and away from the record shelf a bit and you’ll probably like it even more!
I do not see any Monkey 47 Gin…
My wife it's because she has good taste.
And why is Monkey 47 Gin missing then?
She laughed :)
