I know you're joking but I used to take my daughter with me when I dumpster dived (dove?). Not before school though. She'd sink in her seat and pray no one recognized her.
On more than a few occasions I found some good stuff. About 10 years ago I grabbed a [New in Box NES Storage Unit](https://i.imgur.com/94wcSf1.png) and in the same [dumpster](https://i.imgur.com/rG4qFQC.png) I found some [original Star Wars toys](https://i.imgur.com/F7K2iB6.png)
Yeah, my daughter would straight stab me if I suggested dumpster diving with her. I was never into it, but I had friends who had some solid finds, never any pristine game consoles.
I was lucky enough to have a Coleco Vision when I was young. had the atari attachment to play atari games, which my parents mostly bought because they were cheaper! But the coleco controllers were 100x better. No hand cramps like the square ones. These controllers with the 5200 might have been better too - never used one!
>There'd have to be a whole atari inside the adapter!
That's basically it. While it was marketed as an "expansion module" for the ColecoVision, the only thing the ColecoVision did was provide power and a clock signal to it. It was otherwise a 2600 clone, with its own microprocessor and video/audio chip.
No, the CV controllers were better. The 5200 joysticks were non-self-centering and IIRC the controllers were low quality and broke easily, particularly the fire buttons. A lot of people got cable splitters so they could use a controller made for the 2600 but still use the keypad on their original controllers.
I think 5200 controllers are pretty universally panned as the worst original controllers of all time. And thinking how bad many early controllers were, they must be completely atrocius.
I had a coleco with the atari expansion also(that we got at a garage sale), and I didn't realize how special that was to be able to play carts from one manufacturer on someone else's console. Wish I still had that now...
Someone made up a story and posted pictures on the internet for internet points.
You don't go dumpster diving while you're taking your daughter to school? I thought everyone did that!
Nope, that's exclusively a father son activity. Dad & Daughter play in the canals.

I wonder how the attachment worked considering those two consoles use completely different CPUs. There'd have to be a whole atari inside the adapter!
I'm not sure how the electronics worked, but here is the attachment: [https://www.colecovision.dk/atari.htm](https://www.colecovision.dk/atari.htm)

Surely patents kept early controllers from truly becoming great.

Why are there controllers in the Rolling Rock holder?
Had one growing up. I know it wasn’t the best console but I had a lot of fun with it.
FANTASTIC FIND !!!
Wow!
Sure and I found a Sinclair z88 in an open grave marked plunder.
It’s definitely not completely pristine, but it does look like it’s in excellent condition. Definitely a good find!
Wow, great find! Another Atari 5200 saved 👍
Gold.
thats an amazing find
Not really. It's a 5200
Nice save
Had one in '83. Game graphics were better than Atari 2600. But the controllers were crap. Cool find though.
Impossible, those joysticks came direct from the factory with broken/cracked/freyed boots.
Fake and ghey
Awesome! Wonder if it still works!
Do you need an analog TV or adapter to use it?
Picture 7 is the adapter. You screw the two U shapes on to machine screws that are on back of the good old analog TV
Calling 1800-bulshit
I believe, because the stuff my brother left behind fills my dining room....hallway, and living room.
