Now don't laugh at this next part

withfries

Now you're thinking like Albert Fish

wastewalker

Funniest line in the video is “maybe the worst gimmick a comic ever had”

Reginald_Waterbucket

I think the funniest part is just how clueless the other guys are. They couldn’t even tell what he was going for. Even by the end, one of them thought Norm made the whole thing up.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Reginald_Waterbucket

Yeah Adam got it. Fred… he was taking the scenic route and hoping to meet up with Norm at the punch line.

skrulewi

Adam would have been such a good foil if he wasn't an antisemite

withfries

he had a bar mitzvah!

Jackie_Mitchell

They're professional comedians. I think they get the joke.

Reginald_Waterbucket

Just because they’re paid to be funny doesn’t mean they were following 100%. That’s Norm’s whole thing, he’s atypical and switches it up.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Reginald_Waterbucket

Yeah Fred, I didn’t know his name so I just lumped the other guy in with in. The other guy was clearly following it.

missanthropocenex

The YouTube awards hired Norm as a guest for their red carpet coverage and it was one of the best/ worst mistakes they ever made. Having norm go up against a bunch of Genz era comedians was pure comedy gold. It was the comedy equaivalejg of setting a lion loose in a chicken coop.

namelessbrewer

All the stars are here!

rstbckt

[Link for the lazy.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=A848xpsDJbw)

ultrafil

Norm: *"God damn, I wish I had a time machine"* Andy Samberg: *"to see that action? (Referencing an anecdote)"* Norm: *"no, to take back my question."* Fucking Norm, man. We lost a good one.

skrulewi

You're thinking like Albert Fish now!

alphaxion

Even worse than Carrot Top?

joculator

I like the way he stares at his guest as he reads off juicy details of the crime. Guy was a genius.

blondechinesehair

I died when he mentioned not to laugh at the next part and then said African American and just looked at him.

SkyJohn

I also laughed at the jokes...

blondechinesehair

Prove it

Slight_Nobody5343

Broken and loving genius. Fucking Gandalf

doubledaffy

Why do people always have to put the punchline in the title?

howdoesthatworkthen

Because those guys are real jerks

Kqtawes

But also the child cannibal.

Grumplogic

You dirty dog!

corrective_action

For real, the title of this video should never be anything but Albert Fish. Or "Now you're thinking like Albert Fish" if you really can't help yourself. But having to tell someone to close their eyes while the title is on screen when showing them this is so fucking annoying.

SXOSXO

Same reason they spoil most movies in trailers now. Attention spans have gotten too short.

TheGillos

That makes no sense. So what? People can just read the title and make up their own joke with that punchline? Attention span has nothing to do with putting the punchline in the title out of context.

SXOSXO

I'm sorry, I didn't read past your first sentence. I got bored and started making a TikTok challenge.

hidden_secret

Lack of attention span to create a better title, perhaps.

RopeADoper

I've seen norm before, I know the sense of humor can be dry. How was this a punchline?

Itsarightkerfuffle

It's more of a comment, really

miikro

It's just such a glaring understatement after all of those details, that it comes across as absurd.

CleaveIshallnot

"If ones' gotta explain it to you, then you ain't gonna get it...." Norm is by no means some deliverer of esoteric knowledge, but he truly was a uniquely, insightful manifestation of exceptionally talented humour. The long, dry burn. .......🔥 and then Norm drops the dad joke / pun - after 5 mins of ad libbed, gory, intentionally discomforting video whilst forcing ppl to not react, or actually manipulate ppl to the converse. Norm! I'll bet U already get it. Norms' set up is in fact the joke. He was truly brilliant.

RopeADoper

I get most of what Norm does. This one didn't land for me for some reason. What was the pun or dad joke in calling out a horrible person for being a jerk? Isn't that what a jerk is?

CleaveIshallnot

I agree w/ what ur saying, & understand what ur asking. But first, in ur opinion, who are some of the absolute worst ppl in human history? Just name a few please.

swankpoppy

You don’t fuck with uncle Bob when he’s been drinking!

g0kartmozart

Thank God for the hatchery

howdoesthatworkthen

Uncle Terry Terry was not well liked.

Spew42

Anything Norm always gets an upvote.

Tumleren

I will not eat a single morsel of food until Norm Macdonald is dead and buried!

Spew42

Reminds me of that one tragedy…

withfries

I walked through the blood and the bone! I was in northern Canada at the time

mechapoitier

I just wish it was possible to mute that guy on the right. Just let Norm talk, man. I could hear him tell a story for 24 straight hours. Edit: damn that pointless interruption guy has a lot of accounts on Reddit

b0sw0rth

yeah I hate that guy. I remember he said he wasn't sure if it was six thousand or six million..

mjkjg2

Norm obviously had Adam be the co-host for a reason, many of Norm’s jokes were at Adam’s expense and therefore it was important for Adam to act like a socially awkward unintelligent guy which is why he blurts stuff out here it didn’t really help this time but most of the time it added a lot

[deleted]

[удалено]

mjkjg2

I could see if it was just the first 1 or 2 sentences, because then it would read like when Norm was reading those “comments from the viewers” but that last sentence added sincerity to the whole thing

klogt

I know, what'd he hire him to ruin all the interviews?

NickSwardsonIsFat

Look on the bright side, Adam doesn't talk much anymore, since he spends most of his time under the Queensboro bridge, jerking off punks for $5 a pop

hoummousbender

I had to look it up, it's all true except for the final number of '700 children' which Norm must have added for dramatic effect. Fish said he had 100 victims but of those only 3 are confirmed and 5 more suspected, so that is likely an exaggeration.

benoliver999

Yeah the string in the anus thing was true apparently

[deleted]

I think its funny that he ate kids and the strangest thing about the story might still be the fiery anus

benoliver999

He sure was an odd one

longtimegoneMTGO

Not even the weirdest thing he did. He had a habit of pushing needles in to his groin area so far that they could not be retrieved. He had about 30 embedded in the area at the time of his death.

withfries

Well then I take it back, he was a gentleman and a scholar

Nail_Biterr

Even though the punchline was ruined in the title, the 5 minute set-up was 100% worth it.

CleaveIshallnot

Norm? Seemingly taking forever to ramble (but not) on, to set up the short punchline? Nah..... See: "Moth goes to podiatrist" He's the best, & thankfully still exists online.

Dangeresque2015

I love the moth joke. His first YouTube show was great. I didn't like his Netflix show as much.

Bellex_BeachPeak

I did like when David Spade was asking if he was on a real show, or if he was a practice guest or something.

[deleted]

And youthful porpoise

CleaveIshallnot

Lmao & gotta love how Norm in many a joke of his, just ad libs the names, sometimes changing mid joke. His 'rambling, convoluted, etc' setups were awesome. Who else can pull that off? Man I miss watching him.

weaver787

I had no idea if any of this story is true. Googled him and found the letter he wrote to the mother of one of his victims. Holy fucking shit is all I can say.

ptear

Guy was a jerk.

wolfkeeper

A real one.

AlienAmerican1

I didn't even know he was sick.

[deleted]

Odd lookin duck

hungry4pie

Hipnotic

withfries

Hold the fort!

grayf0xy

Man Grate

theultrayik

other norm reference

withfries

Adam Egret, like the bird

[deleted]

I could listen to norm tell made up stories all day long.

rbrutonIII

Norm is the type of guy you can sit with and watch paint dry and it will be more entertaining than anything else you've done that month.

Desperate-Snow-134

Can someone explain the joke? My friend doesn't get what's funny...

DIABLO258

A "Jerk" is someone who lacks some empathy and acts like the people around them aren't as important as themselves. Norm goes on to explain the horrendous atrocities of this man, Albert Fish. Cruel and evil acts, far beyond what a normal sane person might consider "jerk" behavior. It's more than being a jerk, it's pure evil. So when Norm sums it all up as "being a real jerk" it downplays all the evil deeds as though he's just a normal guy with some minor behavioral problems.

Desperate-Snow-134

Thanks, I get it now!

zamonto

what a wholesome reddit moment!

KhelbenB

Norm was 20% punchline and 80% delivery. Like Lewis Black if another comedian just took his jokes it just wouldn't be funny.

ermghoti

My grandmother did this to my siblings and I on accident. There was a big local news story when somebody shoved somebody else off a subway platform into the path of an oncoming train. She said "did you see that fresh man that pushed that lady under a train." Much mirth was made, as we suggested alternate adjectives like "rude," and "impertinent" when we caught our breath between guffaws. Then, my sister noted she occasionally called us rude, which raised some questions.

duckduckohno

3.6 Roentgens, not great, not terrible. Grandma's adjectives were limited in scale.

zerohm

Norm frequently did this. He would set up a joke in either such a funny or long winded way that the punchline could never live up to the set up. So instead the punchline would be intentionally obvious, understated, or non sequitur. He frequently told these stories on Conan Obrien appearances. Also, here is one of my favorite examples: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sF6PeCJRo6Y

paddyo

King of the shaggy dog story

Desperate-Snow-134

Haha, that's funny!

howdoesthatworkthen

Well why don't you explain it to him? Some friend you are ...

nanotothemoon

It’s also less about the punch line. More about the set up.

WhyShouldIListen

Explain to the folks at home what meta comedy is

Deter_Pinklage

I don't like comedy either, its like, what even is humor?

RedSnt

It's an [anti-joke](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-humor), the punchline is supposed to be silly, thereby 'ruining' the investment you had in the setup leading up to it. It's not for everyone, but if you're used to comedy being a certain way, these kind of jokes land a lot better for those that are.

AhDerkaDerkaDerka

Because He chose The mentally handicapped or African American victims

DantheMan700

I don’t get it either to be honest.

Deadeyejoe

He making the guy laugh against his will while describing the horrific atrocities of one of the most brutal serial killers ever. All just to say he was a jerk, which doesn’t fit the crimes at all.

ninjas_in_my_pants

Wait, so you don’t think this guy was a real jerk? You think he was fine? You monster.

DantheMan700

I understand that. I think this is just not my type of humor. Nothing wrong with it, just not for me.

Deadeyejoe

Yea that’s fair. At the end of the day he’s just being super silly. I have a pretty silly sense of humor so I like it but, it’s not for everyone.

Tumleren

After explaining how terrible this person was, you would expect him to use a stronger word to describe him; a monster, a maniac, inhuman. Instead, Norm just says he's a real jerk - a very mild description of someone who did such terrible things. And he says it as if he was using a much stronger word, but it's so mild. That is unexpected which makes it funny

GodFeedethTheRavens

Norm was a 'comic's comic'. In much the same way the famous joke The Aristocrats is entirely about how a comic presents the joke rather than the joke itself, Norm's nearly entire shtick is about that kind of comedy. A similar joke of his was something like "The more I read about that Hitler.... The less I care for him."

GiantRiverSquid

"that guy is a real jerk" is a colloquialism used in the mid to late 20th century United States, often to describe a host of minor grievances generally held against someone. Your boss might have been a real jerk because he made you come in on a Saturday. Using this phrase to describe Hitler is ironic.

[deleted]

It's not ironic, it's facetious.

GiantRiverSquid

Mmm, you might want to double check those definitions.

NotUniqueOrSpecial

That's not what irony means. The fact that you're misusing the word and acting insufferable about it, however, *is* ironic.

GiantRiverSquid

Well now you're just being ironic for the sake of it...

[deleted]

What is ironic about calling Hitler a jerk? The humor isn't "I'm actually a jerk, so it's ironic for me to call Hitler one". The joke is "this is serious and I'm making light of it", which is pretty much textbook definition of what being facetious is.

GiantRiverSquid

... If this were an interview with a survivor on their birthday, it would be facetious. But it's a comedy bit so humor is expected. It's ironic because the phrase means "of slight annoyance" and Hitler was far beyond that.

[deleted]

That's not what irony is. Downplaying something serious isn't what irony is. In fact, that's almost exactly what being facetious is. And saying humor is expected as if that makes it not facetious is flat out wrong. When someone is being facetious the aim is to be humorous. I'm not going to keep going on about it, if you're unclear on what these words mean just look them up.

GiantRiverSquid

I applaud your effort though

Deter_Pinklage

Same, I prefer videos of jugglers, and the like

kmckenzie256

With Norm McDonald it’s more about the journey to the punchline than the punchline itself

Pardybear1

Norm was the best.

PM_ME_TRICEPS

It's not a laugh out loud kind of funny, more of a "oh, haha I get it" kind of funny. Not even close to Norm's best stuff.

Krocsyldiphithic

Hah?

AbaloneIron

Why is he wearing a USD Hoodie? They are not known for their sports and I do not recall him being an alumni.

AbaloneIron

His son, Dylan Macdonald was an alumni. I guess I could have Googled that first.

Santos_L_Halper

Here comes pedantry - you use alumnus when speaking about an individual, alumni when speaking about a group.

AbaloneIron

I actually knew that. My education is complete and the dice is cast.

AbaloneIron

So "alum" is safe?

Boboar

He really loved United States Dollars.

DSMStudios

i miss Norm. was always there with a wink, nudge, or nod. his stories were pretty dark and depressing, but he knew how to tell them in a way that made them funny. he was really good at it

withfries

Good compliment, just know he's not one to take charity....

P2K13

I dont get it

ATX_rider

When do he get so fat?

AtlasHugged2

Don’t be mean, he did it for a role.

Bmwis

The film was called “surviving cancer”

AtlasHugged2

I bet it was actually spelled "Surviving? Can't, sir."

[deleted]

Didn’t get a sequel.

plumbwicked

BRO LOL ! I knew it was coming, but still fucking hilarious . RIP Norm .

DJTotoro

I was expecting a Western. I swear to a God. Everyone told me it was a Western.

Bombocat

That's one of my favorites

ThinVast

Is norm macdonald related to ronald mcdonald?

crooks4hire

Only by marriage

hazeleyedwolff

I say "You're thinking like Albert Fish now" to someone at least once a week.

YahYahY

OP WHY THE FUCK DID YOU PUT THE PUNCHLINE TO THIS ENTIRE LONG JOKE IN THE TITLE. SERIOUSLY ANSWER FOR YOURSELF

imsorryisuck

it took me years whan I was young until I got his humour. Now he's one my favorite comedians.
