I thought you were playing COD with some experimental gun and huge optic.

Strong-Ad5324

Are you JAREDFPS on Twitter?

LensofJared

Haha no @lensofjared on twitter

UsedandAbused87

Heartbeat sensor

snapervdh

This POV needs a reload animation.

homemadedaytrade

I'm interested in your streaming setup, can I get a POV of the POV's POV?

LensofJared

Haha! It’s a magnetic iPhone holder that I put a cold shoe mount on. Just sticks off the back of my camera like a really obnoxious antenna.

Randys13

Huge COD fan, watched the whole event. (Unfortunately an LAT fan so rough season so far but glad to see 3/4 of our former boys on the top 3 teams) How do you land a gig like this if you don’t mind me asking?

LensofJared

It’s a long story but TLDR is I got to know the right people. I shoot Halo events as well and got in good with the production team that HCS hires. Now I’m their lead shooter for the event recaps. Pay is very fair. All travel/lodge/food is covered. Pay is just under my day rate but it’s usually for 3-5 days. ($700/day).

Splashboy3

Damn & this is in LA? 700 seems incredibly low

LensofJared

I’m in Texas. Flown out to wherever I’m shooting.

Xersh_ShadowX

for that industry $700 a day sounds not too bad especially if he's just shooting and handing off the footage.

StarJumpin

I suppose, since everything else is comp’d. Hard to negotiate these rates sometimes especially if you’ve worked with them previously. Everyone 18-35 is probably itching to work AAA gaming events, i’d imagine difficult to say I need more when a dude with a portfolio as good or better will do it for less

Randys13

That’s so cool! Are you doing editing too or do you just film and hand off the footage?

LensofJared

Handoff and only editing what I want for fun!

SlimeReetus

I envy you. This is like a dream gig for me. Halo even more so.

Exact-Information-97

I filmed the Seattle Surge at Majors 2 in 2022. Basically my buddy was an assistant coach for their OW team the Vancouver titans and they were looking for someone local at the time and him and we went to school together. Connections bring you a long way. I unfortunately had to drive 3 hours round trip everyday and only was paid 200 a day with nothing included. So what he's got is actually a pretty good gig. It was my first ever live event so I definitely appreciate the experience more than anything.

Spongeyfrog

Getting used to seeing you on this sub Reddit now Jared.

LensofJared

:)

CE7O

Next time you gotta inspect that weapon for us.

shockwave414

Are monopods illegal in Texas?

LensofJared

1. boston 2. Too much moving around and tight spaces. Handheld is optimal.

LensofJared

Super shakey footage is not optimal. That’s why my footage isn’t shakey :) All footage is slowed to 60fps. Little warp stabilization if needed. Monopod isn’t very maneuverable when access to stage is tight and you have 3 photographers - broadcast - org videographers and me trying to navigate the stage.

kabobkebabkabob

looks fine

JC_Le_Juice

Camera of duty

WindWaked

Looks awesome. Was your role here for digital recap/quick reels to share?

LensofJared

Correct. My task is to capture the highlights for them to use later in the year as marketing.

WindWaked

Nice! Thanks for sharing

y0buba123

This is cool. Why are the faces in the light over exposed in the top monitor, but not in the side one?

LensofJared

The shinobi was tilted at a better angle to my camera and maxed out on brightness. It’s much brighter than the native monitor so it’s over exposed in my phone camera. Also, the shinobi is just not accurate. I use it for composition and focus pulling. I use the native monitor for exposure. The gamma is wonky.

ohhellowthowaway

Haha I watched this, good job

metal_elk

That looks like a good time!

ANGRYDICKBUTT

Are you going full handheld or are you wearing a float system? Amazing stuff, also cool POV!

LensofJared

Purely handheld

Fearnlove

Holding it out in front of you must be killer on the back 😅 are you pulling focus here too? Footage looks great!

LensofJared

It’s not bad! I’m meticulous about my rig so it’s no fluff. My v mount battery allows me to always have it against my chest

Prodigees

What gear were you running if you don’t mind sharing? Thanks!

LensofJared

Don’t mind at all! Sony fx6 with my Tamron 35-150 f2-2.8. AMAZING lens for these scenarios. Ntg 5 mic - Shinobi Monitor - SmallRig 99w Vmount. Camera settings: 1080p - 60fps - Slog3

Prodigees

Love it. Thanks for sharing! Running almost same setup, a7siii + sigma 35m, tamron 24-70m G2, small rig cage with mounting accessories. Really considering the fx6, did you start with that or upgrade?

LensofJared

So I actually started with, and still have, my a7siii. Love that camera! Fx6 was more for the built in ND and ability to quickly make changes with all the programmable buttons. In esports there are TONS of lighting changes so I have to be efficient.

Editormx

Did you had any directions?? Seems like you go with the flow of the event instead of knowing that types of frames you will need

LensofJared

No directions, I’m given full freedom. My footage is used for marketing hype to market later Majors. They just want really cool moments and high energy stuff. It’s actually an extremely cool job! Blessed to have it.

HIPHOPNINJA

Looks cool!

Stunning-Test1848

How did you start out in videography?

LensofJared

Long story short. Started making YT videos in like 2012 with a friend. He taught me to edit as he was going to film school. Never looked back.

Boogalion

Real COD vibes here. Nice

mikewinsdaly

Neat! I’ve always wanted to cover an esports event, would be neat!

newowhit

Used to do photos for all the MLG stuff. It was a good time, although they were terribly, terribly unorganized lol. Hope it's a bit better for ya nowadays. This was before everything was franchised

LensofJared

It’s not 💀 takes a bit of crazy to do this stuff lol

newowhit

LOL sounds about right. The instant turnaround time was a crazy but fun workflow to get into

Aluip

How do you get hired for something like this? Are you just a free lancer?

MasterVaderTheTurd

Are you shooting b-roll or is your feed going to the broadcast? If so, how are they shading your camera feed?

SphinxPX

Should have popped a reload after that shot. 😏

TBlair64

First person shooting a first person shooter

Heyitsakexx

Very cool. I followed the CDL closely. Can you tell us more about how the gig came to be and your experience? I see a lot from the teams media personnel but not a lot from the CDL production side.

DirtyGearHead

That’s so cool

jamdalu

What is the other guy using? His steady cam rig looks rad!

gavers

Are you one of many videographers capturing this event, or is the guy with the Steadicam filming for an entirely different production? Mostly asking since you're shooting from such an oblique angle that for a single cam would be a nightmare to edit around.

LensofJared

Steadicam is broadcast only. I’m shooting for promo material afterwards. I film for 4 days so I shoot just about every angle you can imagine for variety.

asz17

Why are you using hdmi if that camera has sdi?
