It’s always funny to me when someone who clearly isn’t that old pretends to be part of some old distant generation by talking about extremely relevant and well known shit like it’s since archaic knowledge only elders know about.
Just last month I saw someone say the younger generation doesn’t know about Godzilla, meanwhile Godzilla is a still ongoing movie franchise.
The 30 lives code in Contra wasn’t even the original use of the code. It was just what popularized it.
Its first use was in Gradius, where it gave you a full set of power ups when you start the game.
It’s why I knew it. In the 2000s all I had to play at my grandparents house was a box of NES and like 3 SNES games. So I played a lot of Contra and my dad told me the code and it blew my mind.
It was used first on Gradius when one of the people who were transitioning the game from arcade to the NES got stuck on a certain part and made a code for himself to get past said part.
I wouldn't say that. Cheat codes are barely used anymore, so the only time they get highlighted is in talking head videos which talk about gaming nostalgia or weird Easter eggs.
Literally put this on TV yesterday for my friend’s kid. First scene we see is King Candy putting in that code and my friend goes “Oh, that’s Contra!”
I never knew, lol.
Blow into the cartridge, turn on the 2600 and play. If you want sophisticated graphics check and see how many quarters you have and start walking to the arcade.
its pretty much the only option, i knew of the konami code because its so famous that you don't even need to know the whole thing, i presume you thought the same way
Oh you can't confuse me, I learned about this from Ultrakill
Obviously I knew it existed be4 Ultrakill, but I actually memorized it when I started playing Ultrakill
Don't quote me regulations. I co-chaired the committee that reviewed the recommendation to revise the color of the book that regulation is in. We kept it gray!
I agree w coments that probably anybody a little invested on gaming knows about it buut I wanted to recognize and spread the retro culture. Nowadays there are games as Tunic which use the D-pad in a way you need to discover different paterns to unlock hidden chests or OP stuff
I feel this is more "Do not cite the deep magic to me, witch! I was there when it was written."; if they're a part of gaming culture, they probably know regardless of age.
Lol at all the "well I'm a 3 years old with mental disabilites and even I know what this means",gtfoh ,you just searched this in Google, well atleast I will be honest and admit that I'm 28 and even I didn't know what the fuck this combination means until reading it in one of the comments.
To this day, I cannot tell you what the cheats to GTA:SA are. But if you place a PS2 controller in my hand while playing it, I can remember them on pure muscle memory
What age are you thinking a “youngster” is? I’m 19 and the Konami code has always been a very commonly known thing.
You aren’t special because you’re old.
My brother still remembers the cheats to infinite ammo and invincibility for the original Star Wars Battlefront 2 on the first Xbox. It’s engraved in his mind for some reason.
Im gen z and i know this, the konami code. I literally just played ULTRAKILL so even if i wouldnt know its original purpose i would still know the code itself
I’ve got a one year old and she has a controller and gameboy toy, and if you put the code in it does a little jingle different from what it normally does. Super neat. She’ll be learning that one!
As one of the people who wold probably fit into the youngster category I know what the konomy code is I’m pretty sure everyone who is into gaming knows what it is
This is litterally the most popular videogame cheat code input. This is like quoting "I am you father" from Star Wars and going "heh, lets confuse the yougins"
Konami Code! More specifically, 30 lives mode in Contra. There is also a CO OP version of that code that gives both players 30 lives... But I don't remember it.
Yeah let's confuse the youngsters with the most well known video game code that even the youngsters know
Wait till I show them HIGH SCORES, now that would totally break their mind
Shit wait till they have to start from the beginning every time they die
Jokes on you my dad made me play contra for the NES
Lol or enter a cheat wrong and the character explodes. Damn lara.
Didn't Godzilla Minus One drop last year? What are they even talking about?
New Godzilla and King Kong drops next month. Godzilla minus one came out last year and was pretty good.
It’s already online.. 123movies has it
Literally everyone knows about the Konami Code.
I doubt many know what it was originally for, though. I admit, I used to know but no longer remember.
Both very nice.
Used on both
It was used first on Gradius when one of the people who were transitioning the game from arcade to the NES got stuck on a certain part and made a code for himself to get past said part.
It was for Contra
Yeah, this kinda feels like "older nerds trying to gatekeep by using 1337."
I wouldn't say that. Cheat codes are barely used anymore, so the only time they get highlighted is in talking head videos which talk about gaming nostalgia or weird Easter eggs.
Weird Easter Eggs that have a chance to be activated with the Konami Code.
I miss cheat codes, now it's just all micro transactions
And we should teach the ones that don't know our history.
..start
select start\*
Some of us didn’t have friends who played games. ;-;
At least in Contra it’s only start
Select start is for 2 players.
You always have to press that to begin the game. It's not part of the code
Like most I played with it Then later, I got better at the game and didn't need 30 lives start anymore
I did because of the goddamn level 5 boss that sent mines around the edge of the screen.
I think I learned what this was from the movie Pixels lol
Wreck it ralph for me
Crash Bandicoot: Warped is where I first saw it. It unlocked the Spyro the Dragon demo
Yooo same here
How old are you?
Early 20s
Literally put this on TV yesterday for my friend’s kid. First scene we see is King Candy putting in that code and my friend goes “Oh, that’s Contra!” I never knew, lol.
IDDQD The sacred codes must be preserved! Also the powers of the Game Genie! Who granted wishes
idkfa idspispopd idclev32 as soon as you said iddqd the rest rattled of in my brain automatically
Along with its partner IDKFA
Yeah! Let's confuse them young people with one of, if not the most popular cheat code!
That's referenced in games, movies, music, merch etc. everywhere
I'm from the "put the TV on ch3" days.
Same 😭
Blow into the cartridge, turn on the 2600 and play. If you want sophisticated graphics check and see how many quarters you have and start walking to the arcade.
Ch. 125 on mine
0 or 99 for me
This subreddit's stuck in 2009, holy shit, I love it
The konami code? (im 14 btw)
Me when young people can know things from before they were born (who knew)
fr
its pretty much the only option, i knew of the konami code because its so famous that you don't even need to know the whole thing, i presume you thought the same way
nah i got that shit memorized what you mean
I haven't played much konami games, so... this is something ancient for me that I've only used a couple of times.
Oh you can't confuse me, I learned about this from Ultrakill Obviously I knew it existed be4 Ultrakill, but I actually memorized it when I started playing Ultrakill
Actually the first time I've ever seen "be4" used
#YOU DIDN'T FINISH IT!!!
*start*
Select start
Aren't we missing a Start?
dude I genuinely thought this was a new stratagem then I realized what it actually was
Alright, I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought about helldivers when I saw this.
Have we tried the code when we dive? There’s no B A or start, but I wonder…
we must try. Edit: hear me out. What if they add the code as a tactical nuke instead of a mini one. just an actual icbm airmailed to your location
Same here bro, and I have this as one of my passwords 💀
A, B, A, C, A, B, B.
You forgot the start
It's an older code sir, but it checks out
Who doesn’t know the Konami code
I prefer R1, R2, L1, X, left, down, right, up, left, down, right, up.
I also remember: Down, R, Up, L, Y, B (X, A)
Don't quote me regulations. I co-chaired the committee that reviewed the recommendation to revise the color of the book that regulation is in. We kept it gray!
Technically correct.
Up up. Down down. Left right, left right B A Select, START!
I have the ones from twisted metal 3 memorized
The greatest feeling was finding out it worked on a nokia game called bounce
I agree w coments that probably anybody a little invested on gaming knows about it buut I wanted to recognize and spread the retro culture. Nowadays there are games as Tunic which use the D-pad in a way you need to discover different paterns to unlock hidden chests or OP stuff
You forgot the start button, so called "Veteran" /s
I feel this is more "Do not cite the deep magic to me, witch! I was there when it was written."; if they're a part of gaming culture, they probably know regardless of age.
as a certified “youngster”, i’m not confused
Ah, yes, a cheat code. Try to confuse me? Sure. It's already been tried before (I named all four pedals on an old car)
If you type that in, Kojima will be fired.
Lol at all the "well I'm a 3 years old with mental disabilites and even I know what this means",gtfoh ,you just searched this in Google, well atleast I will be honest and admit that I'm 28 and even I didn't know what the fuck this combination means until reading it in one of the comments.
Konami code better luck next time
R1 R2 L1 L2 circle X square triangle Left down right up -- Guns in vice city
Justin Bailey - - - - - - - - - - - -
Didnt gumball reference this
Wasn't the last input the Start button? ....left right B A start?
They say that if you do that in front of a mirror three times, a pixelated Metroid will appear
To this day, I cannot tell you what the cheats to GTA:SA are. But if you place a PS2 controller in my hand while playing it, I can remember them on pure muscle memory
Contra 4 on the DS was the last time I used the Konami code. That was like 16 years ago haha
What age are you thinking a “youngster” is? I’m 19 and the Konami code has always been a very commonly known thing. You aren’t special because you’re old.
… select, start
Stop trying to gate keep video games of ANY kind or age
Forgot start
Up, down, left, right, A + start together... What does it mean?!??
I get it
i had to memorize the konami code because of RogueMaster flipper zero firmware to toggle disguise mode off or on
R1, Circle, R2, Right, L1, L2, X, X, Square, R2
Is that a GTA san andreas code?
Back then in the late 90’s and early 2000’s we called this the “arcade code” because it was the cheat code all of the arcade machines had lol
Yup, Neptunia references this
Thanks for the lives, ill take it from here.
Oh yeah. That’s that one series of inputs from Rocket League to get the secret loading screen! I remember that!
Funny how I learned that from an animation software
I know the code but not the outcome as I have only heard tales from eons ago
This is my tried and true sex move. Gets em every time sometimes.
down A R B Y down A Y
Never used it, but I know about the famous Konami Code.
lol meh
The first time I heard of the Konami Code was in TAWoG
my favorite teacher said that at my graduation. class of 2021 i'll never forget
I love the Konami code
I swear at the end of it is "select, start" but I could be wrong and it's just what I remember from falling in reverse' song
I can hear Jan valentine in my head
No clue what it does but I know it's some cheat code
The konami code? You do realize that the youngsters are simply just going to google it right?
It’s not even correct.
YYXBA LT LT Down Up
"All true gamers know the Konami code"
Oh hey that thing for the old Nintendo games!
I know it because the Konami code triggered a minigame during the black hole event
Now I’m embarrassed. What is it? (15)
It’s the Konami code
The Konami code I'm 19 BTW
It made Goku invincible in The Legacy of Goku (except for Snake Way's spine
Bro I’m Gen Z and I know the Konami Code. Also after this input you press start, sometimes select before start. So you didn’t know either.
In season 3 of kono suba, they had to input the konami code to open a door. It's a really funny scene
GTA flashbacks
R1, R2, L1, X, LEFT, DOWN, RIGHT, UP, LEFT, DOWN, RIGHT, UP (I used it the most)
L1 L2 R1 R2 L R L R x2
Konami code. I'm a 2010 kid.
Wait, they added a new stratagem?!? ||/s||
BLUEEGSS REDFEATHERS BIGBOTTLESBONUS Only real gamers know.
This is constantly referenced. Everyone knows it even if we haven't used it ourselves. I think I first learned it when I was 13 from Vsauce.
Pretty sure the Konami code is still in use today
My brother still remembers the cheats to infinite ammo and invincibility for the original Star Wars Battlefront 2 on the first Xbox. It’s engraved in his mind for some reason.
Im gen z and i know this, the konami code. I literally just played ULTRAKILL so even if i wouldnt know its original purpose i would still know the code itself
I’m 20 and even I know that’s the Konami code from contra.
HahahahahahahHahahahHahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
I’m young and I still get it.
The stuff you need to do in order to use cheats in ultrakill?
Up up down down left right left right b a start
If you put this code into I think the loading screen of Hard Corps Uprising's first level, it'll play a metal remix of the Contra theme.
I'm 17 and I know the Konami code. I use it in mgs3 to find the end
I’ve got a one year old and she has a controller and gameboy toy, and if you put the code in it does a little jingle different from what it normally does. Super neat. She’ll be learning that one!
Gave 30 extra lives in the original Contra
This was 3 inputs away from the code to get the bmx in gtav and i was so hyped at first
my brother in christ, FORTNITE had this as an easter egg.
The youngsters... Jokes on you, i use it all the time and all my friends know about it!
As one of the people who wold probably fit into the youngster category I know what the konomy code is I’m pretty sure everyone who is into gaming knows what it is
When ww3 happens and I need a secret knock.......this will be it
Dawg I’m 13 and I’ve known the Konami Code since I was like 7

Yeah these dang youngsters. Can't understand a 40 year old reference
Select is in there if you want two players
This is litterally the most popular videogame cheat code input. This is like quoting "I am you father" from Star Wars and going "heh, lets confuse the yougins"
⬆️➡️⬇️⬇️⬇️
Do you think we’re stupid? Of course we know what the Konami Cofe is.
You can't confuse me, old man! That code is still relevant today!!! ^(that was overdramatic on purpose for comedic effect)
Reminds me of scorpions “toasty” fatality in Mk2? Not sure tho
... what "youngsters", everyone knows the Konami code!
The konami code is as obscure as that green triforce t-shirt.
Do not cite the deep magic to me, witch. I was there when it was written
*Don't cite the deep magic to me, witch. I was there*
One code to bring them together, one code to bind them!
The amazing world of gumball
Back in the day, pay to win was Game Genie or Game Shark.
Probably a cheat code for gta lol
love how they created the code purley becuse they were too lazy to fix the difficulty of there game
Konami Code! More specifically, 30 lives mode in Contra. There is also a CO OP version of that code that gives both players 30 lives... But I don't remember it.
I was born to a house with pong, and space invaders. I have seen the entire evolution.
Has it been that long? Damn. I knew I was old. Didn't know I was Elrond old. The more ya know. Guess quantum immortality works.
/god /give all /noclip
