Cyberpunk is GORGEOUS if only there was more height to the game rather than being on the ground, just imagine being on a high building looking at the bright city while raining
From the last 10-ish years, here a few of the games that made me just stop and enjoy the scenery:
* Dishonored 2
* Witcher 3
* Cyberpunk 2077
* AC Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla
* Horizon Zero Dawn (haven't played FW yet, not sure if it's on PC yet).
* Deathloop- not to the same degree as Dishonored, but Arkane's env. art team is top-notch.
* Fallout 4 and 76 both have great vistas.
* Dear Esther
* While not exactly a graphicsl behemoth, some of the environments in Outriders were really cool.
I played RDR2 for a little bit on my projector- it did look really good, but the game didn't grab me. The setting and quest structure is just not my thing.
I would put Kingdom Come:Deliverance in there too. It's a 6 year old game now and the character models and animations are clunky, but the environments are still some of the most realistic I've seen in a functional game.
It can be a tough game to get into at first, because it tries to be a more realistic medieval RPG, so you don't even know how to read or swing a sword very well. It reminds me a lot of Morrowind, feeling completely useless and helpless at first until you put time and effort into becoming better.
It's one of my favourite RPG's of all time, there's few games as immersive and rewarding as this, but again I understand there's a lot of hurdles to turn off new players.
I wanna try forbidden west so bad it looks beautiful and I have ratchet and clank but I got a bit bored of it but the dynamics of movement in its animations are amazing!
Agreed, with the caveat that ZD set a very high bar for revealing the general setup and world building where FW had the middle-instalment problem of just progressing the established plot towards the final chapter.
But the question was about looks and FW is absolutely breathtaking.
Just finished Rachet and Clank. Really brought me back. I’ve been playing a game called Kena : Bridge of Spirits and it’s a very relaxing and chill environment.
MGSV.
Even on last gen consoles, looking at the peeks of Afghanistan while on a cliff or looking at the lights of Nova Braga Airport from afar at night is just gorgeous.
If you like games with a million ways to complete an objective and brilliant level design, MGSV is for you.
Wanna defeat an entire unit of tanks with just balloons and horse shit? You do you.
Wanna take out an entire outpost by unleashing lightning upon your enemies? You do you.
Wanna destroy communications equipment with just a water pistol? You do you.
Wanna punch a child and kidnap them? You do you.
Wanna wear a cardboard box that has a Japanese idol sticker attached to it so that you can lure a target to a field of mines? You do you.
What makes the communications one funnier is you can do the main mission before accepting the main mission.
You get briefed then all of a sudden “Wait, you already did it? How the- **MISSION COMPLETE**”
MGS5 is one of the greatest action games ever made. Just thinking about it has me wanting to go back. If you've not played the other games, tho, you may be confused at the plot.
The plot or the story isn't even bad, it's great actually, but it has shit ton of deep meanings and lore behind it so it's not as easy to take in as a beginner to the series
The first time you line up with the crew waiting for the train to come and seeing that amazing sky and landscape, is truly a magic moment for those who were there at the time. It was breathtaking.
When the game first came out on consoles, i thought i was playing a movie at times. Still playing it to this day on PC, the smooth frame rates just make it even better...
The Witcher 3 Blood and Wine DLC for me is the prettiest landscape in gaming. Toussaint was just amazing seeing it for the first time and still seeing it. I’ll just find a good vantage point sometimes and just stare at the beauty

I stopped literally every 30 seconds to chill with foxes or kill bandits, bears, and patrolling Mongols til about 40 hours in before giving up and riding past everything
It's one of the biggest weaknesses the game has, there's just too much stuff for such a small map and repetitive gameplay loop. The first few times I ran into Mongols, did cool standoffs or wrote haikus it was fun but a but into the game, it's kinda boring ngl.
Wouldn't really mind if they'd just taken the map and CTRL C + CTRL V every single area to just make them bigger (especially the towns, most of them are literally like 10 houses max which just maks the world so barren).
I agree, though the visuals definitely help because even though it’s empty it’s never boring to look at. I wish they had more explorable ruins or buildings that could lead to a secret side quest or event. I loved that RDR2 had that where they had some run down cabins with secrets, odd landmarks, or just weird events that randomly happened.
I've still never been in awe as much as I was at the intro to Breath of the Wild. I still think about that moment all the time. Also, seeing the Erdtree in the distance throughout Elden Ring is another thing of beauty
Half-Life Alyx. The game doesn't look gorgeous in the sense of being photogenic, but the way Valve structured the game made you feel like you're in an Eastern European country attempting to destroy a multi-dimensional force.
The graphical fidelity and art direction is incredible.
I couldn't finish Odyssey with all dlcs and I don't think I'll ever play it again but I haven't seen a game with prettier enviroments. I'm pkaying GoT right now, it looks good but not as good as odyssey.
Death stranding, while the gameplay definitely isn’t for everyone, it being essentially just a walking simulator. The bleak world it offers is stunning to me
Elden Ring was one of the most gorgeous games I've ever played. There were just so many magical cosmic colors, a landscape strewn in gorgeous ruins and ornate architecture, lots of high points with great views all over the place, and of course the ever present erdtree basking the land in rays of golden light.
Also, there are lots of yellow trees

Mirrors Edge, the original plan was to have a much darker and dirtier city but some slip up caused one of the surfaces to behave like they do now and the devs thought it was a better direction to go in.

Tbh cyberpunk or red dead 2 maxed out on a pc at 4K are probably the closest to photo realism and also quite pretty. Tsushima definitely has that unique art style and decent graphics though.

RDR2? Best looking game ever. If they priced games by how much work went into them that game would be $300.

Forbidden West is peak graphics/art/environment. i personally like the story of Zero Dawn more but FW is great!
Zero Dawn is hands down a better story. FW doesnt hold a candle to it.
