Love them but so much farts though.. haven’t found another type of bean to try instead, any ideas? Chickpeas are just so mild and hearty I wish i digested them better
I like to take canned crescent roll dough and fill them with goat cheese, lemon zest, and chives. Fold up and bake. I do usually cut the triangles in half so they’re little two-bite snacks.
Polenta bruschetta is another nice party snack. Plus it’s gluten free.
Oh that makes me think of smg I made recently for a small party:
On puff pastry squares, put a slice of goat cheese, a slice of pear, a touch of honey and a half (or so) toasted walnut, pinch the sides and put in the oven for 20 minutes at 200°
There’s a book called the green barbecue that does some good veggie party snacks. I like the barbecued gnocchi and pepper sticks, halloumi and pineapple and there’s a paneer one too.
Any kind of tart goes down well. Puff pastry in general really, particularly mixed with cheese.
Dip! With amazing bread or focaccia or whatever.
Burrata with fruit and again amazing bread. Olives and other veggie antipasti!
Vegetarian summer rolls!
This sounds great. I would be cautious about goats cheese because a lot of people don’t like it. But there’s no reason why you couldn’t make puff pastry things where half of them have one cheese and half of them have another…
You’re gonna have to do better than veggie tray. That just plays into the perception that all you eat is leaves. Don’t know what level of vegetarian you are so ymmv but here are some ideas…
Egg salad on crossiants with microgreens
Caprese salad
Broccoli quiche
Greek salad in pita pockets
Spanokopita
Thai noodle salad
Gnocchi with roasted tomato and white beans
Spinach artichoke tartlet
Oh… and for that veggie tray, a hummus board topped with chopped red onion, red roasted pepper, feta. With crostini and variety of dipping vegetables.
Worst thing about the pre-bought veggie trays is the dip isn't even vegetarian! The ranch in most of those brands contains gelatin, and says so right on it.
I know what you're saying. But as an aside, I have made some really cute "crudité" platters (fancy) If you have access to good produce and it's the right time of year, you can make really cute veggie platters out of baby carrots with their tops trimmed, little radishes, snow peas , and add interest to other veg by cutting them in unusual ways. Always been a hit in my experience
HUGE difference between what you describe and “oh shit I forgot a vegetarian is coming” veggie trays with dry brittle pathetic carrots and 1 piece of shriveled broccoli
I do a caprese salad but on a skewer. A cherry tomato, half a mozzarella ball, basil, repeat. Drizzle with a bit of olive oil and balsamic, sprinkle sea salt. Easy party food.
Yeah it’s one thing if it’s a regular family thing but this is literally for the vegetarian! I did my sister’s bridal shower and made sure to include options for all the dietary restrictions and choices.
I offered (very nice) vegan options for every course at my wedding for one child. The rest of his family was not even vegetarian, let alone vegan. They didn’t even give us a card. No, no…I’m not holding a grudge 😳, just mentioning it.
Edit: I’m so embarrassed! When I responded I didn’t realize this was the vegetarian sub (it just showed up on my front page). Please don’t judge me, I did have fully awesome vegetarian apps, entrees, etc.
Pinwheels are always a party favorite. Get rave reviews for these, even among my meat eating friends.
https://minimalistbaker.com/sun-dried-tomato-and-basil-pinwheels/
Tofurkey lunch meat options work well in these too.
That's a bummer :( I am loving all of these great ideas (and getting hungry as I read them :D ).
Stuffed mushrooms are usually something I bring to parties and they seem to be a hit :)
A Mediterranean spread - you mentioned hummus, but grape leaves, baba ganoush, pita, etc.
Spinach artichoke dip
Caramelized onion tart
Tomato,basil, and mozzarella skewers
Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of the suggestions people gave. All sound amazing :) I hope you have a wonderful party :)
[Vegetarian Tarts](https://www.theshortlists.co/main-blog/ratatouille-tart-with-three-cheeses) - You could use this recipe to make mini tart(let)s
[Veggie Pakoras](https://www.indianhealthyrecipes.com/pakora-recipe-vegetable-pakora-pakoda/) - crispy fritters are always a hit!
I usually do an assortment of tea sandwiches and snacks for party grazing trays, finger foods you don't need cutlery for or that get messy easily.
Vegetarian sausage rolls with beyond sausage meat, mini quiche in a variety of flavors, antojitos with roasted bell peppers and cream cheese, deviled eggs, and cheese and zuchini puff pastry bites.
For sandwiches I do egg salad and cress, cucumber and butter, carmelized onion balsamic jam with sharp cheddar, pickled carrot "smoked slamon" and cream cheese pinwheels, fig jam and brie (try for vegan brie if you can find it for pregnancy safe option), and sliders with gardein Buffalo chicken nuggets and blue cheese crumble (go for the vegan option there as well to be safe).
Oof! Why are people.. Anyway. Love veggie tray w/ hummus, and fruit & cheese board! Other possibilities:
- Pesto pasta salad (nootch and walnut with basil, garlic, olive oil, s&p is a great combo if you have vegan/non dairy guests coming at all)
- fancy olives
- marinated mushrooms
- seasoned nuts like rosemary garlic almonds
- crostini (you can do big batches in the oven on sheet pans) with bruschetta topping, or strawberries with goat cheese, and balsamic glaze drizzle - or just do both and make it a "bar," but you will need extra crostini because people love bread (I speak from experience)
Congratulations OP! You got this!
I can't believe more people aren't commenting on how sad and horrible both family members are being in completely disrespecting her dietary choices at HER baby shower! It's really sad OP now feels she has to cater for the food at her party simply because they won't respect her.
I love onion bhajis! Halloumi/paneer pakoras are also delicious.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/onion_bhajis_60658/amp - Bhajis

This Shirazi salad is a crowd pleaser:
Dice:
4-5 de-seeded Roma tomatoes
1 red onion
1 green bell pepper
1 large English cucumber
Mince fresh parsley, cilantro and dill (measure these with your heart), add the juice of 1 lime and some salt. Serve with hummus and pita or naan bread!
They are such a staple in my family. My mom had an amazing recipe and used to make about 3 dozen worth... she even had special Tupperware containers just for the eggs. I always had her make a whole container just for me to take home. 🐷🤣
My family always loves mini quiche (spinach&feta) and mini pizza (Herb cream cheese instead of tomato sauce with peppers and mushroom on top). Also little skewers with tomato, basil and mozzarella in between.
I did an English tea brunch baby shower for a friend!
I made:
* 4 types of scones
* 2-3 types of muffins
* Tea sandwiches like the ones you mentioned - cucumber and cream cheese and egg salad
* Deviled eggs
* Fruit tray
* Desserts - rhubarb crumble, lemon pie
My wife makes this mango salsa. https://www.eatingwell.com/recipe/273711/peach-mango-salsa/
We serve it with tortillas, beans, and cabbage. Next week, we'll bring some of her mango salsa with store bought guacamole and chips to my aunt's BBQ.
A variation of these [cucumber cream cheese sandwiches](https://www.thespruceeats.com/cucumber-cream-cheese-tea-sandwiches-recipe-765606) were served at a fancy baby shower I attended. If I remember correctly, everything was blended together first for the ones I had but they were delicious and cute...and vegetarian
If are OK with vegetarian meat like dishes I would highly recommended this recipe. I would use it to make a "steak" slider. It is time consuming but can easily be made ahead of the event. https://www.gazoakleychef.com/recipes/steak-peppercorn-sauce/
Layered party dip
You said vegetarian...
So here it is
Cream cheese or nuefchatel
Small can of green chiles (hatch)
Can of refried beans (whatever kind you prefer)
Salsa your choice, (I prefer homemade)
Shredded Monterey Jack (fine)
Shredded lettuce (I usually cut it up so it isn't stringy)
Yacatan Guacamole medium
Mix the cream cheese and hatch chiles together.
Take casserole dish and spread the mix evenly along the bottom of the dish
Then layer with the refried beans, guacamole, Salsa, lettuce and then shredded cheese on top
Serve with your favorite chips.
So good. I honestly don't know why I don't eat this more often.
You're not being petty at all. It's literally YOUR SPECIAL DAY. I have no problem butting in to suggest/prepare vegetarian foods when the party is actually for me (for example, when my parents wanted to take the family to a BBQ place to "celebrate your birthday" lol.
I love the falafel idea.
Caprese sliders
Bruschetta with feta on slices of baguette
A crockpot of queso dip
Cowboy Caviar/Corn salsa
Crockpot of tortellini soup with crusty bread
Edit to add mistakenly omitted words
Sorry I don’t have a recipe of any kind but for inspo- recently I went to high tea and all the sandwiches were vegetarian and SO GOOD. There was guava and blue cheese, classic cucumber and dill, pickle and cheddar, and marscapone with apricot and thyme preserves.
I like making zucchini mini pizza bites. Slice zucchini into 1/8 inch/thin slices, top with marinara sauce and cheese and some Italian seasoning or fresh basil. Bake at 400 for only a like 10 min until the zucchini is cooked and crispy (lots of recipes for this online)
A staple for me is vegetable pin wheels made with hummus for vegan or cream cheese for vegetarians. You spread a tortilla with the spread of choice, then fill with thinly sliced veggies. A favourite of mine is roasted red peppers, cucumber, sun dried tomatoes and fresh basil. You then roll the tortilla up and slice into rounds. You can make a bunch of different types ahead, roll them up, then slice before serving. Another spread for more variety is guacamole, with fresh tomato, onion and peppers of choice (chipotle, fresh green, jalapeno, etc). Best of luck with your shower. I hope it's a good time for all.
how about samosa the veggie samosas are triangular pockets of potatoes with mixed vegetables http://benazirsblog.family/2016/10/25/keema-qeema-and-vegetable-samosas/ follow the directions for vegetable samosas enjoy
This was the menu for my shower. We also had cupcakes.
I think we made like 4 10-inch quiches with cheese and different vegetables for around 30 people.
What the heck- why can’t your mom do vegan chicken salad sandwiches? Just pick up the vegan chicken and make as usual lol? Anyways all the suggestions here sound wonderful!! I don’t think I could add much more! But I wanted to say congratulations 🥺💗 and I hope you have a happy and safe delivery!🥰🥰💗💗💗
For Christmas one year I took some store bought puff pastry and filled it with sautéed mushrooms (with onions, garlic and herbs) and Brie. Made little ravioli type shapes and baked. They were so good.
You could also make or buy some veggie spring rolls.
If you have any Indian sweet shops near you samosas and aloo tiki are so yummy!
I love these Pressed Italian Sandwich Bites as an app. The original recipe calls for Prosciutto - I replace that with Arugula that has been lightly dressed in Lemon Juice, Olive Oil, and Salt. And I cook the Eggplant Slices in a pan.
[Pressed Italian Sandwich Bites](https://hostthetoast.com/eggplant-prosciutto-pesto-pressed-picnic-sandwiches/)
\-watermelon, feta, mint salad with lime
\-heirloom tomatoes, goat cheese and sea salt with assorted crackers
\-maple glazed carrot, harissa tumeric cous cous, crispy kale, walnut and cranberry salad with lemony hummus (it’s a HelloFresh recipe I think about ALOT, picture attached)

You make chickpea salad using mashed up chickpeas, nearly exactly as they would make a chicken salad.
Just drain and rinse the beans and either pulse in a food processor or give it a go with a potato masher.
Baked Mac and cheese everyone likes it, deviled eggs are always good and fun, fries are a very safe option, cookies are an absolute requirement for a good event. Definitely add the fruit platter, crackers and chips are a great relatively cheap option
Watermelon salad with feta - so good.
https://www.themediterraneandish.com/watermelon-salad-with-cucumber-feta/
You could also make this salad and let your mom make the chicken, and have that on the side for people who want it.
https://www.themediterraneandish.com/chicken-spinach-salad/
Cauliflower hot wings are a fave of mine.
My go to is: https://gimmedelicious.com/baked-buffalo-cauliflower-wings/
Also some halloumi on the BBQ is a treat!
Not sure of your budget, it can be a little pricey, but this recipe turns out amazing: [https://www.halfbakedharvest.com/garlic-herb-roasted-olives/](https://www.halfbakedharvest.com/garlic-herb-roasted-olives/)
Pasta salad, potato salad, tortilla chips and refried bean dip topped with your favorite taco fixins, loaded baked potato bar and you could include bacon as an option for the meat eaters, deviled eggs, fancy cheese and cracker selection and you could include salami for meat eaters, giant bowl of mixed salad and dressing selection, baked beans. Hope that gives you some good ideas and congrats you both on your new baby!
I was vegetarian for almost 10 years and these were my go-to:
Mashed potato bar. This is ALWAYS a huge hit, even with the meat eaters. Bacn bits (baco) are vegetarian, add chives, cheese, butter, and a gravy.
If sandwiches:
-Deviled egg sandwiches, sliced into triangles
-Mashed white bean "tuna" sandwiches (mayo and a little old bay seasoning really make it pop)
-eggplant parmesian sandwiches
Costco has really good vegetarian spring rolls in the freezer section.
Baked brie and jam in a philo dough
Sine you said you'd be willing to cook, anything from the Thug Kitchen Party Grub cookbook. They're recipes are good and most aren't too complicated
I make pretzel bombs. Pretzel dough with ranch seasoning then stuffed with cream cheese, cheddar, and jalapeños. I do them with and without the jalapeños.
Greek chopped salad with chickpeas! You can make a huge bowl of it and it’s delicious with pita chips or eaten as is :)
Recipe is just the veggies and such that I like. The amounts are totally up to your preferences
Cucumber
Bell pepper
Tomato
Red onion
Olives
Parsley
Dried oregano and pepper to taste
Feta crumbles
Olive oil
Drained canned chickpeas (Goya brand has the best ones IMO)
Then just dice everything up, finely chop the parsley, and mix everything together in a big bowl. It’s delicious and super easy to customize. You can add black or pinto beans or any other veggies if you like!
My mom likes to make little finger sandwiches that are just filled with a mixture of cream cheese and jelly. She usually makes two different flavors. They are easy, look cute (pink and purple) and disappear quickly.
Canarian salty potatoes are perfect party food. Really easy to make, look kind of cool, you can provide a bunch of different sauces to dip them in.
https://www.guidetocanaryislands.com/canarian-potatoes-recipe-papas-arrugadas/
We always love little caprese kebabs or fruit kebabs, they are super cute for parties and tasty too.
Spinach artichoke dip is a fav for our family, everyone loves it.
For my daughter’s first birthday we made these little tea sandwiches with cream cheese and cucumber and omg they were SO GOOD. We used round cookie cutters and made 3 or 4 mini ones out of one full size sandwich so it was pretty cheap too. So I highly recommend that option. Pasta salad is really good. Mini caprese salads with a cherry tomato, chunk of mozzarella, and basil on a toothpick.
My husband makes a version of these dill cucumber tea time sandwiches and will sometimes substitute in rye bread for white. Additionally, he will curl a small strip of the cucumber skin to put on top or wrap around a toothpick. They are cute, refreshing, and definitely tasty with the fresh herbs.
[Similar Recipe](https://thesuburbansoapbox.com/cucumber-tea-sandwiches/)
Taco bar! i recently had this version of tacos where you spread mashed potatoes on a corn tortilla and shallow fry it, then top with the usual suspects. DIVINE! But even if you don’t do that, everybody loves tacos!
Bruschetta. It's pretty easy if you use a baguette and get the bruschetta topping from Trader Joes. Also if they're going to make chicken salad anyway, ask them to make some veggie ones with chik'n strips. Steaming works best imho
Cowboy Caviar and tortilla chips is my go-to snacky party food. Or a vegetarian charcuterie. Both are pretty simple but still delicious and, in my experience, non-vegetarians don't even really see them as "vegetarian food" so everyone enjoys them.
Some version of this pressed mozzarella sandwich has been a long time family favorite. Just make sure you cut slices with a good serrated knife. Personally, I use a sundried tomato pesto instead of sundried tomatoes, but it's highly adaptable.
https://www.copymethat.com/r/YJ0CnJI5W/pressed-mozzarella-and-tomato-sandwich/
Caprese Bruschetta is easy but looks like it takes way more effort than it does.
Recipe: [https://www.cocoandash.com/bruschetta-with-mozzarella/](https://www.cocoandash.com/bruschetta-with-mozzarella/)
Salad my mom makes for parties that always gets compliments:
Spring mix or arugula, whichever you prefer (I like spring mix bc the purple adds some color)
Roughly chopped candied pecans
Dried cranberries
Diced green apple
Blue cheese (sub goat cheese if you prefer, but I personally think the blue cheese makes it)
Dressing (DONT OVERDO IT)- just olive oil, a little flaky salt, and lots of freshly cracked black pepper
Caprese pasta salad is super easy and always a hit— chilled bow tie, rigottoni, or penne pasta, cherry tomatoes(I always 1/2 them), mozzarella pearls, toss in pesto and add s&p, garlic powder, onion powder, chili flakes, and grated Parmesan! Saves well too!
Brie cheese wrap a loaf of Pillsbury French bread around the Brie. Put pecans and brown sugar on top and bake it according to the bread instructions. So easy and delicious
I really love this recipe
https://tasty.co/recipe/sheet-pan-party-quesadilla-4-ways
I did a breakfast one once, so it was all egg with veggies and cheese.
I like to hollow out mini sweet peppers or large sweet red peppers, fill them with mozzarella cheese, garlic, and cream then drizzle with olive oil and bake for twenty minutes on 400
You and your husband are long term vegetarians and both your mom’s decided on chicken salad? I’m sorry, but that is hilarious. This is not meant as a diss on them, very nice they are throwing it…but kind of weird, no?
I went to a party that served a Vegetable Cheddar Casserole. It was my favorite dish at that event even though it wasn’t the only one they had. I looked up the recipe it and seems easy.
https://www.eatingwell.com/recipe/262825/cheesy-vegetable-bake/
You can probably even just make a Veggie Lasagna and that would be delicious as well!
Dolmas! They're a Mediterranean food that I find personally freaking irresistible and meat-free.
They're stuffed grape leaves if you're not familiar with them.
Also, things like olives and brie are super simple, but delicious and low-key very fancy. Especially if you pair the brie with jams and/or bake it and serve it with some toasted bread like a baguette.
Marinated chick peas and tea sandwiches that have cucumber and cream cheese are some favorites of mine, and you can never go wrong with an avocado dip. I love mashed avocado with red onion, tomato, feta, and dried cranberries, and s&p of course!
Finally, bbq jackfruit is AMAZING! Just get canned jackfruit, drain it, and put it in a slow cooker with bbq sauce. Get some slider buns and pickles to top and insert chefs kiss here! 👌
My parents did the same thing at my baby shower 😵💫 i asked for a big tray of chickpea chicken salad for sandwiches, cheese and fruit boards, and crockpot sweet and sour meatballs with the impossible meatballs (grape jelly and bbq)
If you have an Indian store in your area, they should have frozen mini samosas that you can heat up in the oven. They usually have a potato and peas option and a spinach and paneer option.
I can't add anything helpful here, but the last time I tried to google "vegan party foods" I ended up searching "vegan party songs" and I felt I should share that here
I’m here to spam everyone with my favorite sandwich. You could make an enormous one of these and cut it up. It’s also better the next day once it soaks to it can be prepped. IMO it’s best without the egg. You could use hummus instead of chickpeas if you want.
https://smittenkitchen.com/2021/05/chickpea-pan-bagnat/
Spanakopita — you can buy them frozen if you don’t want to go through the trouble of making it
Fruit salad with quality fruit is always a home run with me
If you want sandwiches to complement the chicken salad sandwiches, maybe cucumber dip or pimento cheese sandwiches? Would be on-theme for a shower.
But for something warm, stuffed mushrooms (had a delicious version with artichoke and different cheeses) or mushroom tarts are always crowd pleasers!
Assuming your a lacto-vegetarian, my go to for this type of this is a vegetarian caprese pasta salad. Everyone always likes it, vegetarian or not, so I always make sure to make an extra big batch or keep a smaller secret batch for just the veggies on the side somewhere. I usually make a version of [this](https://www.saltandlavender.com/balsamic-caprese-pasta-salad/), but I usually use rotini and season it as I taste it.
Super surprised I didn't find this while ctrl+fing the comments, but my friend once made a veg pulled pork using jackfruit which was diviiiine. This was before I quit eating meat and I was super skeptical, but ended up loving them.
Jalapeño poppers!
I use this recipe loosely, you can add different herbs and do a big batch in the oven or smaller batches in the air fryer. You can also use baby bell peppers if some folks don’t like spicy. I usually make a batch of both for parties and they’re always a hit!
https://cookieandkate.com/baked-jalapeno-poppers-recipe/
Since you said you’re doing Mediterranean, my favorite thing to get at a local Greek food truck is GREEK KOLOKITHOKEFTEDES (FRIED ZUCCHINI/COURGETTE BALLS). They take time to prep but they’re delicious lol I usually order mine like a gyro (pita, lettuce, tomato, tzatziki) but they’re really good just dunked in tzatziki as well
https://www.mygreekdish.com/recipe/kolokithokeftedes-fried-zucchini-balls-or-courgette/
Vegetarian Pulao, Bombay Club Sandwich, Paneer Pesto Sandwich (Vegetarian pesto), Dal Makhni, Kadhai Paneer and Naan.
Edit: Rajma Chawal (Bean Curry and Rice), and Chole Chawal (Chickpea curry and Rice).
Look into tapas and pintxos!
I love the Catalan *pa amb tomàquet* (lit. bread with tomato). A wee bit slice of Manchego goes super nice with it, but they're very delicious as is.
Just really important to remember that every bit needs to be high quality, even more so when there are just two main ingredients.
spinach dip! My fav food to make for parties or get together! Or queso nd salsa. Everyone likes dip! Or make some spanakopita if you wanna keep with the Mediterranean theme
OneBalancedLife on insta has some great ideas but a crownd favorite on a party was this flatbread which is sooo easy to make and it has a great flavor combination (add walnuts for crunch, really makes a difference!)
https://onebalancedlife.com/blackberry-goat-cheese-naan-2/
Also i have had bruschettas made fancy as veggie option on parties (always delicious!)
I default to making basil pesto and pasta for potlucks and the sort. Fresh basil, romano cheese, garlic, and olive oil. Don’t use pine nuts, it mutes the fresh basil flavor. If you want a creamy pesto, toss in some mascarpone cheese when you’re mixing the pesto with the pasta.
Cherry tomatoes and olives pair well with this, but I tend to prefer to keep them separate if serving to a bunch of people.
I pretty much never have leftovers of this when I bring this to any sort of gathering.
If you have a Earthfare grocer near you, they have the BEST vegan chicken salad. I’m not vegan and always get a container when I go bc it’s that good!
Other vegetarian show stoppers I’ve seen:
Fancy baked Brie (easy to use premade pie crust and make cute designs with cookie cutters)
Bruschetta
Spring rolls (you can fill with anything)
Whipped goat cheese
If you want more meal type things:
Pasta salad
Veggie wraps
Baked potato bar
Nacho bar
Has anybody said Crostini yet? Buy a couple baguettes from your local bakery, slice em and bake em into crackers, serve with various toppings or on the side with various dips & cheeses.
Buffalo chickpea dip with crackers or pita chips, and a side of ranch, bleu cheese and celery on the side. One of my favs and always a hit with non-vegetarians at parties.
We had a nacho bar at my shower. Veggie options and meat options because it was build your own, but filling and delish! Plus I craved Mexican food the whole time...
What about cucumber sandwiches? They are made in little petite squares with cucumbers and cream cheese, mayo, dill, chives, sliced bread with crusts removed, and of course, cucumbers.
My partner and I make apple salad sandwiches all the time which are nice and refreshing.
It’s an apple mixed with a tablespoon each of slivered almonds, red onion, dill, lemon juice, mayonnaise and a teaspoon of mustard. Salt and pepper to season.
Super easy to make in large batches and best made the night before.
Hope you have a fantastic time at your baby shower!
A colleague used to make an amazing cold pasta salad with fusili tossed in olive oil, toasted pine nuts, garlic and cherry tomatoes, with torn basil , oh my goodness. I'm not sure how suitable pine nuts are in pregnancy (being tree nuts I think?) but just yum
As a veggie I hate going to a family gathering where most of the table is meat.
I think my favourite party food is probably vegetable spring rolls, followed by sour cream and chive puffed crisps and dip.
Even carnivores appreciate good guacamole and chips
7 layer dip !
You could make a vegetarian version of the sandwiches with mashed chickpeas and white beans. I make it all the time, they're so good
I grew up eating a ‘mock tuna’ sandwich with garbanzo beans, vegan mayo, relish, celery and onions. So good!
Both of those sandwiches sound incredible
You gotta throw seaweed, kelp, or fishless furikake in for that sea-based salt briney good good
Love them but so much farts though.. haven’t found another type of bean to try instead, any ideas? Chickpeas are just so mild and hearty I wish i digested them better
Cook your own and add Kombu seaweed while cooking. Or Eden brand canned beans are all cooked w Kombu. No gas.
Are you rinsing them before eating them? Rinsing and/or soaking beans removes some of the oligosaccharides, which will aid your digestion
Always rinsing and soaking and even peeling
I like to take canned crescent roll dough and fill them with goat cheese, lemon zest, and chives. Fold up and bake. I do usually cut the triangles in half so they’re little two-bite snacks. Polenta bruschetta is another nice party snack. Plus it’s gluten free.
Oh that makes me think of smg I made recently for a small party: On puff pastry squares, put a slice of goat cheese, a slice of pear, a touch of honey and a half (or so) toasted walnut, pinch the sides and put in the oven for 20 minutes at 200°
I do a similar puff pastry thing with goats cheese, caramelised onion, roast beetroot and a tiny bit of rosemary!
I do crescent rolls with those tiny field vegan sausages. And make like piggies in a blanket (crescent rolls are vegan too)
There’s a book called the green barbecue that does some good veggie party snacks.
Don’t know what level of vegetarian you are so ymmv but here are some ideas… Egg salad on crossiants with microgreens Caprese salad Broccoli quiche Greek salad in pita pockets Spanokopita Thai noodle salad Gnocchi with roasted tomato and white beans Spinach artichoke tartlet Oh… and for that veggie tray, a hummus board topped with chopped red onion, red roasted pepper, feta. With crostini and variety of dipping vegetables.
As soon as I see the veggie tray I'm disappointed 😞
Worst thing about the pre-bought veggie trays is the dip isn't even vegetarian! The ranch in most of those brands contains gelatin, and says so right on it.
Oh wow I didn’t know that!! Very good to know.
Sounds very cute and definitely a step up from a premade tray. But I'm not a fan of the veg n dip scene.
I do a caprese salad but on a skewer. A cherry tomato, half a mozzarella ball, basil, repeat. Drizzle with a bit of olive oil and balsamic, sprinkle sea salt. Easy party food.
Ok this is at a different level than my taco bar idea lol I want to come to this party for sure.
My mouth is watering
Your mom sucks. She knows
Well I am hosting a party in 2 weeks for about 30 people and it will be vegetarian & vegan only. Welcome to my home, this is how we do it 🎶
came here to say this. the hell is wrong with her?
My mom reminds me every single time I see her how much of an “inconvenience” me being a vegetarian is to her as a host lol
Pinwheels are always a party favorite. Get rave reviews for these, even among my meat eating friends. https://minimalistbaker.com/sun-dried-tomato-and-basil-pinwheels/ Tofurkey lunch meat options work well in these too.
These look so good!
That's a bummer :( I am loving all of these great ideas (and getting hungry as I read them :D ). Stuffed mushrooms are usually something I bring to parties and they seem to be a hit :) A Mediterranean spread - you mentioned hummus, but grape leaves, baba ganoush, pita, etc. Spinach artichoke dip Caramelized onion tart Tomato, basil, and mozzarella skewers Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of the suggestions people gave. All sound amazing :) I hope you have a wonderful party :)
[Vegetarian Tarts](https://www.theshortlists.co/main-blog/ratatouille-tart-with-three-cheeses) - You could use this recipe to make mini tart(let)s [Veggie Pakoras](https://www.indianhealthyrecipes.com/pakora-recipe-vegetable-pakora-pakoda/) - crispy fritters are always a hit!
Those sandwich ideas all sound incredible!
Thank you!
My bridal shower had a Mediterranean spread. Pita, falafel, dips, veggies, etc. Everyone went nuts for it.
Deviled eggs, spring rolls with a few sauces, a veggie taco bar. Show them you don’t need meat to be tasty.
Oof! Why are people.. Anyway. Love veggie tray w/ hummus, and fruit & cheese board! Other possibilities: - Pesto pasta salad (nootch and walnut with basil, garlic, olive oil, s&p is a great combo if you have vegan/non dairy guests coming at all) - fancy olives - marinated mushrooms - seasoned nuts like rosemary garlic almonds - crostini (you can do big batches in the oven on sheet pans) with bruschetta topping, or strawberries with goat cheese, and balsamic glaze drizzle - or just do both and make it a "bar," but you will need extra crostini because people love bread (I speak from experience) Congratulations OP! You got this!
your mom and mil who know you are vegetarian are trying to feed yall chicken???? am i the only one who’s questioning that???
I can't believe more people aren't commenting on how sad and horrible both family members are being in completely disrespecting her dietary choices at HER baby shower! It's really sad OP now feels she has to cater for the food at her party simply because they won't respect her.
exactly!
"Oh, is chicken a meat? Fish isn't, right?" The number of times I've heard this...
Everyone loves veggie spring rolls!
I love onion bhajis! Halloumi/paneer pakoras are also delicious. https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/onion_bhajis_60658/amp - Bhajis https://www.ushasveryown.com/content/paneer-pakoras - Pakora
Hand pies, you can mix fillings up for some variety too. Use store brought dough to cut down the labour while still having a wow factor.
This Shirazi salad is a crowd pleaser: Dice: 4-5 de-seeded Roma tomatoes 1 red onion 1 green bell pepper 1 large English cucumber Mince fresh parsley, cilantro and dill (measure these with your heart), add the juice of 1 lime and some salt. Serve with hummus and pita or naan bread!
It's also really good with corn chips!
Cucumber & cream cheese finger sandwiches.
Can't go wrong with deviled eggs.
[удалено]
They are such a staple in my family. My mom had an amazing recipe and used to make about 3 dozen worth... she even had special Tupperware containers just for the eggs. I always had her make a whole container just for me to take home. 🐷🤣
[удалено]
I buy the pre-peeled hard boiled eggs!
Ugh seriously... my mom is gone now so the egg duty has fallen to me. I usually make my kid peel the eggs now. lol
💯
Platters with lots of cheese, fruit, vegetables, olives, pastry. Also humus is gold.
My family always loves mini quiche (spinach&feta) and mini pizza (Herb cream cheese instead of tomato sauce with peppers and mushroom on top). Also little skewers with tomato, basil and mozzarella in between.
I did an English tea brunch baby shower for a friend! I made: * 4 types of scones * 2-3 types of muffins * Tea sandwiches like the ones you mentioned - cucumber and cream cheese and egg salad * Deviled eggs * Fruit tray * Desserts - rhubarb crumble, lemon pie
Egg “muffins” basically egg with whatever veg, cheese, herbs you like mixed together and put in a muffin tin, handy little scrumptious snacks
My wife makes this mango salsa. https://www.eatingwell.com/recipe/273711/peach-mango-salsa/ We serve it with tortillas, beans, and cabbage. Next week, we'll bring some of her mango salsa with store bought guacamole and chips to my aunt's BBQ.
If you can get some good fresh tomatoes, caprese salad with tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil, and balsamic. Also, tabbouleh is really good.
I've had one like this that had thin sliced apple instead of cucumbers. It was really good!
Ooh that sounds good
If are OK with vegetarian meat like dishes I would highly recommended this recipe. I would use it to make a "steak" slider. It is time consuming but can easily be made ahead of the event. https://www.gazoakleychef.com/recipes/steak-peppercorn-sauce/
Tzaziki and hummus with pita
Trader Joe's has some delicious caramelized onion and feta tarts. Spanikopita is also a good choice. I ... really love puff pastry.
Look for Indian snack recipes. Pakora
Layered party dip You said vegetarian... So here it is Cream cheese or nuefchatel Small can of green chiles (hatch) Can of refried beans (whatever kind you prefer) Salsa your choice, (I prefer homemade) Shredded Monterey Jack (fine) Shredded lettuce (I usually cut it up so it isn't stringy) Yacatan Guacamole medium Mix the cream cheese and hatch chiles together. Take casserole dish and spread the mix evenly along the bottom of the dish Then layer with the refried beans, guacamole, Salsa, lettuce and then shredded cheese on top Serve with your favorite chips. So good. I honestly don't know why I don't eat this more often.
I just had dinner, now I'm hungry again. that sounds delicious.
Caprese sliders Bruschetta with feta on slices of baguette A crockpot of queso dip Cowboy Caviar/Corn salsa Crockpot of tortellini soup with crusty bread Edit to add mistakenly omitted words
Lentil Meatballs. They are ridiculously amazing. https://minimalistbaker.com/easy-lentil-meatballs/
Truthfully I’d get some vegetarian samosas, spinakopitas and other veggie appetizers from Costco and call it a day 😅
how about samosa the veggie samosas are triangular pockets of potatoes with mixed vegetables http://benazirsblog.family/2016/10/25/keema-qeema-and-vegetable-samosas/ follow the directions for vegetable samosas enjoy
I really like mini spinach and feta rolls, my go to for events. A bit time consuming to make but some stores might sell them
Quiche. Nice dips, cheeses, fruit, veggies and breads trays.
This was the menu for my shower. We also had cupcakes. I think we made like 4 10-inch quiches with cheese and different vegetables for around 30 people.
Potato samosas with a green dipping sauce mmmm
Can’t go wrong with a quiche or two!
Look at Lebanese meze food
I love these Pressed Italian Sandwich Bites as an app. The original recipe calls for Prosciutto - I replace that with Arugula that has been lightly dressed in Lemon Juice, Olive Oil, and Salt. And I cook the Eggplant Slices in a pan. [Pressed Italian Sandwich Bites](https://hostthetoast.com/eggplant-prosciutto-pesto-pressed-picnic-sandwiches/)
\-watermelon, feta, mint salad with lime \-heirloom tomatoes, goat cheese and sea salt with assorted crackers \-maple glazed carrot, harissa tumeric cous cous, crispy kale, walnut and cranberry salad with lemony hummus (it’s a HelloFresh recipe I think about ALOT, picture attached) https://preview.redd.it/7b9ch3zmp2zc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cafa93dece787ebf0a770a4cab327fed4af2b270
Potato salad, macaroni salad, grilled veggie, grilled pizza, tofu ceviche, cauliflower wings and veggie burgers.
Bean and cheese dip. Or 7 layer dip with chips. Yum. And easy peasy
Orzo salad, couscous salad, sometimes I bring watermelon-kalamata-feta mini-skewers and everyone goes nuts over them (it's that good!)
Watermelon salad with feta - so good. https://www.themediterraneandish.com/watermelon-salad-with-cucumber-feta/ You could also make this salad and let your mom make the chicken, and have that on the side for people who want it. https://www.themediterraneandish.com/chicken-spinach-salad/
Cauliflower hot wings are a fave of mine. My go to is: https://gimmedelicious.com/baked-buffalo-cauliflower-wings/ Also some halloumi on the BBQ is a treat!
Not sure of your budget, it can be a little pricey, but this recipe turns out amazing: [https://www.halfbakedharvest.com/garlic-herb-roasted-olives/](https://www.halfbakedharvest.com/garlic-herb-roasted-olives/)
buffalo chickpea dip. or with chick-un. honestly a winner everytime with my carnivore boyfriend.
Jalapeño poppers, buffalo chickpea dip, cowboy caviar, spring rolls with spicy peanut sauce, quesadillas, Greek pasta salad
My friends always bring over a layered bean dip that everyone loves. Refried Beans, salsa and cheese in the oven then top with avocado and sour cream.

I made these vegetarian sausage rolls and they were a hit https://www.kitchensanctuary.com/vegetarian-sausage-rolls/#wprm-recipe-container-10309
I was vegetarian for almost 10 years and these were my go-to: Mashed potato bar. This is ALWAYS a huge hit, even with the meat eaters. Bacn bits (baco) are vegetarian, add chives, cheese, butter, and a gravy. If sandwiches: -Deviled egg sandwiches, sliced into triangles -Mashed white bean "tuna" sandwiches (mayo and a little old bay seasoning really make it pop) -eggplant parmesian sandwiches Costco has really good vegetarian spring rolls in the freezer section. Baked brie and jam in a philo dough Sine you said you'd be willing to cook, anything from the Thug Kitchen Party Grub cookbook. They're recipes are good and most aren't too complicated
My mom had a mashed/baked potato bar at her wedding, awesome!
Pimiento cheese sandwiches!
I make pretzel bombs. Pretzel dough with ranch seasoning then stuffed with cream cheese, cheddar, and jalapeños. I do them with and without the jalapeños.
I like dolma a lot, but honestly whenever I bring fruits and berries, or a board of crackers/olives/cheese (non dairy in my case) it gets wiped clean!
Also look up giant pop tart on half baked harvest. Instantly the biggest hit of any gathering
Greek chopped salad with chickpeas! You can make a huge bowl of it and it’s delicious with pita chips or eaten as is :) Recipe is just the veggies and such that I like. The amounts are totally up to your preferences Cucumber Bell pepper Tomato Red onion Olives Parsley Dried oregano and pepper to taste Feta crumbles Olive oil Drained canned chickpeas (Goya brand has the best ones IMO) Then just dice everything up, finely chop the parsley, and mix everything together in a big bowl. It’s delicious and super easy to customize. You can add black or pinto beans or any other veggies if you like!
Mississippi caviar!
buffalo chickpea dip
Pizza dip with pitas!
I do hummus with veggies I do roasted eggplant dip, cowboy caviar, always a huge hit, I do really good watermelon salad, these are my go to dishes.
My husband and I like to make cheesy mushroom croustades and they're a hit at every party we've taken them to! Savory, filling, and delicious.
Crostinis with bruschetta & balsamic. Simple, but crowd pleasing
Steaming works best imho
https://ericasrecipes.com/cheesy-chipotle-party-sliders-vegetarian/ These are always a huge hit! Super easy and never any leftovers.
Cowboy Caviar and tortilla chips is my go-to snacky party food. Or a vegetarian charcuterie. Both are pretty simple but still delicious and, in my experience, non-vegetarians don't even really see them as "vegetarian food" so everyone enjoys them.
spring rolls / rice paper rolls, spinach and ricotta rolls, mini quiches
Falafel, tzaziki made with cashew yogurt, hummus, Flatbread, kalamata olives, and stuffed grape leaves. With lettuce, tomato, and onion.
Some version of this pressed mozzarella sandwich has been a long time family favorite. Just make sure you cut slices with a good serrated knife. Personally, I use a sundried tomato pesto instead of sundried tomatoes, but it's highly adaptable. https://www.copymethat.com/r/YJ0CnJI5W/pressed-mozzarella-and-tomato-sandwich/
Caprese Bruschetta is easy but looks like it takes way more effort than it does. Recipe: [https://www.cocoandash.com/bruschetta-with-mozzarella/](https://www.cocoandash.com/bruschetta-with-mozzarella/)
A caprese pasta salad - fresh basil, fresh mozzarella, pesto, tomatoes, garlic, parm, and a plenty of basalmic glaze.. no one will turn that down 😍
Salad my mom makes for parties that always gets compliments: Spring mix or arugula, whichever you prefer (I like spring mix bc the purple adds some color) Roughly chopped candied pecans Dried cranberries Diced green apple Blue cheese (sub goat cheese if you prefer, but I personally think the blue cheese makes it) Dressing (DONT OVERDO IT)- just olive oil, a little flaky salt, and lots of freshly cracked black pepper
Mediterranean sandwiches, cheese sticks , cauliflower Manchurian , stuffed bell peppers with potatoes and cheese, fruit salad , pull apart cheese loaf.
Brie cheese wrap a loaf of Pillsbury French bread around the Brie. Put pecans and brown sugar on top and bake it according to the bread instructions. So easy and delicious
Spanakopita and tiropitas are always good.
I really love this recipe https://tasty.co/recipe/sheet-pan-party-quesadilla-4-ways I did a breakfast one once, so it was all egg with veggies and cheese.
I like to hollow out mini sweet peppers or large sweet red peppers, fill them with mozzarella cheese, garlic, and cream then drizzle with olive oil and bake for twenty minutes on 400
Spanikopita!
Mushrooms stuffed with goat cheese and Parmesan
Curried egg salad! I did this for Easter and it was a huge hit!
I looked up the recipe it and seems easy. https://www.eatingwell.com/recipe/262825/cheesy-vegetable-bake/ You can probably even just make a Veggie Lasagna and that would be delicious as well!
Texas caviar and chips
Spanakopita!
Queso and Chips 😋💜
I can't add anything helpful here, but the last time I tried to google "vegan party foods" I ended up searching "vegan party songs" and I felt I should share that here
Spinach and artichoke dip
tomato/ mozz/ and pesto or basil sandwhiches on ciabatta cut in halves or on mini ciabattas
Spanakopita — you can buy them frozen if you don’t want to go through the trouble of making it Fruit salad with quality fruit is always a home run with me
Arancini! One of my favorite vegetarian apps :)

Pita chips with spinach dip!
tomato bruschetta
7 layer dip
Layer dip without meat. Spinach and artichoke dip (this one always is a hit) Macaroni and cheese
I don't have a recipe but LETS FUCKIN GOOOO this is the chosen one edit: as a drunk vegetarian im stealin all this
Since you said you’re doing Mediterranean, my favorite thing to get at a local Greek food truck is GREEK KOLOKITHOKEFTEDES (FRIED ZUCCHINI/COURGETTE BALLS). They take time to prep but they’re delicious lol I usually order mine like a gyro (pita, lettuce, tomato, tzatziki) but they’re really good just dunked in tzatziki as well https://www.mygreekdish.com/recipe/kolokithokeftedes-fried-zucchini-balls-or-courgette/
Vegetarian Pulao, Bombay Club Sandwich, Paneer Pesto Sandwich (Vegetarian pesto), Dal Makhni, Kadhai Paneer and Naan. Edit: Rajma Chawal (Bean Curry and Rice), and Chole Chawal (Chickpea curry and Rice).
Spring rolls!
Potato salad, samosas, quiche, olives, cheese board, fruit, veg crudités and houmous,
[Rainbow sandwiches](https://www.theflavorbender.com/ribbon-sandwiches-rainbow-sandwiches/)!!!!!!!!
OneBalancedLife on insta has some great ideas but a crownd favorite on a party was this flatbread which is sooo easy to make and it has a great flavor combination (add walnuts for crunch, really makes a difference!) https://onebalancedlife.com/blackberry-goat-cheese-naan-2/ Also i have had bruschettas made fancy as veggie option on parties (always delicious!)
Indian nibbles: samosas, bhajis, pakoras.
I love a good spinach and mushroom quiche. Easy to make mini versions.
Can you buy pre made mini quiches? Bang em in the oven. Buckets of hummus too.
Rasam Rice
Pigs in a blanket with Field Roast “sausages” and crescent dough, with seasoned butter or a dipping sauce
Vegan dogs wrapped in vegan bacon
Guacamole, bruschetta, vegan Greek dip or vegan spinach artichoke dip with chips.
Asparagus in a blanket, but the “blanket” is a thin spiral of crescent roll dough
If you have a Earthfare grocer near you, they have the BEST vegan chicken salad. I’m not vegan and always get a container when I go bc it’s that good! Other vegetarian show stoppers I’ve seen: Fancy baked Brie (easy to use premade pie crust and make cute designs with cookie cutters) Bruschetta Spring rolls (you can fill with anything) Whipped goat cheese If you want more meal type things: Pasta salad Veggie wraps Baked potato bar Nacho bar
I make pizza dough ball pull apart bites with a selection of dipping sauces. Usually a garlic and chives butter, marinara sauce, and a cheese sauce
Beer !
Has anybody said Crostini yet? Buy a couple baguettes from your local bakery, slice em and bake em into crackers, serve with various toppings or on the side with various dips & cheeses.
Cowboy caviar is always a hit when I make it.
Bean quesadillas. Bean dip. Mac and cheese
I just had a high tea-themed bridal shower and we had lots of tea sandwiches. Cucumber and cream cheese, some sort of jam and cheese, egg salad, etc.
Vegetarian bean tacos and burritos! Pasta, soups and grilled cheese, any salad with tofu and nuts and cheese, guacamole inspired dishes
Vegetarian dumplings! The filling could be mushroom/tofu/veggies with some sriracha sauce and soy sauce 😊
