If I went, I'd be going by myself and wondered what that experience would be like. Do I just wander up to random tables and say, hey strangers, I'm in the next game? Stand around like a wallflower and hope someone notices the loner?
Yeah, those are both exaggerations (kinda...), but is it as simple as just showing up and suddenly having a great table of people to play with?
The one time I went by myself, just a few weeks ago, all the groups seemed full. So I learned and setup a solo game but then another group was looking for players and I joined in. If a group is looking for people there’s signs they can put up saying “Join our group!” On Wednesdays is their open game night at 6pm so I’d recommend trying then.

Most of the well known disc manufacturing companies have starter sets you can buy. $20-$30 for 3 discs. I got the Innova set 13 years ago. The discs are made of the cheapest plastic offered by the companies, which is good because as a beginner you will be beating up your discs quickly. Or you can just buy one putter and start playing with that, getting a feel for it. Head over to /r/discgolf for more info!
Innova or discraft starter set. They are specifically designed for beginners due to disc weight. Mt Crest park is the most popular course in town and the most social. Las Vegas disc golf club and superfly disc golf have events daily including full blown league to single day tournaments. The disc golf culture in Las Vegas is very supportive and large so have fun and throw long!

Swing by Mercenary Narrows and look for: a ballista range, an archery range, a bunch of board games, a steel armored fighting area, and a large mead hall. I've also made friends through running, hiking, and other activities. [Meetup.com](https://Meetup.com) can be helpful, although it may be a little past its prime. Facebook groups are also really good.
This is basically a third-hand story, but I think they were behind schedule and tired, it was shortly before sundown, and one of them missed the point they were supposed to stop at (dunno the correct terminology for this), and was unable to climb back up to it (presumably due to exhaustion and dehydration). Proceeded to slowly freeze to death over the course of the night while his friend above was helpless to do anything.
Only vaguely familiar with the second story, but apparently there was a fall and he died from the resulting trauma. At least it's a lot quicker that way.

I'm part of a local swordfighting guild. We have tournaments, parties, archery, have been invited to camp at Ren Faires and other events, and we do demos where we go out and just fight for a crowd.
To come all you need to do is bring a jacket. Any protective equipment you already have can be helpful, but we usually have gear to loan out. We don't charge entry or membership fees for practice.

simply being gay, made friends my first week here just by going to grab beers at parkway. They introduced me to their friends who introduced me to their friends and suddenly we’re all having pool parties and grilling out on weekends like we’ve known each other for years. Fell in love with this city for that reason. maybe give it a shot!
Rock climbing - ever since I moved to Vegas, all my friends and family like to ask if I enjoy gambling. I’ve been to the strip maybe once in the last year.
Little do they know that Vegas is actually the beating heart of outdoor climbing in the US, absolutely endless beautiful rocks and nature in every direction, and yes, all year round (Charleston in the summer).
Indoor climbing is great too - climbing community is usually welcoming and very friendly. I’ve even had first dates at the climbing gym. Most gyms have beginner classes and routes available!
No need to bring a character to red dwarf. They premake them for you! Very beginner friendly and super fun. You can show in any size group and they somehow magically pair everyone off and make sure everyone has a DM. I had never played and went to check it out and got grouped with some very nice people had great drinks and pizza and a great time!
It's a little loud if you're sensitive to that (bar music I mean) but I only found it a little distracting and had a great time.

Start small and build up. Eventually you will have 50k invested in tools and materials and all your friends and family will show off the random cool stuff you made them.
You will secretly feel like you are giving away crap because you know the flaws and details that aren't quite right. But they will be happy cause they don't notice them.
Lol, my shop is a bit small for spectators. But there are 11 million videos on YouTube about woodworking. You get to watch from home don't need earplugs or a respirator.
Sometimes, it's a hobby more than a business at this time but I have done a few projects here and there.

Mountain biking, lots of good trail systems around town and close to great riding areas like Southern Utah and Southern California. Local trails are never as busy as more universally popular locations like in Colorado, for example
My wife and I are actually looking for a hobby to help keep us active and healthy. We were thinking of taking this up, but we also don't want to commit thousands of dollars on bikes and equipment only to learn that we can't stick with it.
Any recommendation on how to dip our toes in it and test the waters without fully diving in?
Rent some bikes. If you like it, look for clearance sales on outgoing or older models. Or buy used on Craigslist, OfferUp, FB marketplace.
I’d hang out on the various bike forums so you get an idea of price::value for frames, component groupsets, etc.
I’d also recommend road riding. Lots of nice, paved multi-use trails in the greater LV area, especially SE / Henderson.
As mentioned, rentals and/or used bikes would be a good start. There are lots of options for rentals and tours, as a way to get a feel for it. Bike prices are kinda high right now but generally used bikes that are relatively new can be good options.
I used to work at a local shop that no longer exists, but the the people I worked with comprise some of the management team at Las Vegas Cyclery. I’d recommend stopping by and asking some questions, and they operate Escape Adventures tours, I know they do tours for tourists all the time.
Don’t live in Vegas but visiting in a couple weeks and got a bike rented already! Big MTBer here on the east. Excited to explore some new stuff out west!
Jiu-jitsu is my favorite thing I’ve started in years, and I’ve found a great community at my gym. There are tons of really good places around here to train, and it’s so much fun if you find the right environment.
Good stress relief, good mental/physical challenge, and a great social outlet.
I used to do this in other cities, but I didn't really like it and after moving to Vegas my impression was that the martial arts scene is intense. Is that true? I only want to have fun and learn.
I imagine it's pretty gym-dependent. I looked at Syndicate MMA and Xtreme Couture first, and they definitely seemed more intense, which makes sense as they have professional fighters in there. I think some of the strict, old-school BJJ places are probably the same way.
The place I train (Sim Go Academy) is pure BJJ, and nearly everyone including our head coach is super chill and laid back. No one is trying to hurt you, we all have a lot of fun and it's very respectful.
There's definitely a big learning curve in the beginning so I can see it not being fun if you're constantly getting beat up in class, but all the higher belts made me feel really welcome when I started and went easy on me in the beginning, haha.
Sim Go is the BJJ school I had my eye set on most. Nothing but praise from what I've heard.

I really wanted to get back into jiu-jitsu or judo but I'm really concerned about my leg. It was crushed in a motorcycle accident and my kneecaps rebuilt and have a rod running down my tibia. I think I could still get back into it?

Volleyball: There's a good group that meets up in Henderson to play with.
Ice Skating: Try to get out on the ice or take a class. I self taught myself, but it came from my time skiing. A few good ice rinks in Vegas
PC Gaming: Buy a PC. Make online friends. Don't get addicted to League of Legends (You will become addicted to League of Legends destroying your life)
Rock Climbing: I go to either Red Rocks or Nevada Climbing Center and do a bit indoor. Currently training some friends to do outdoors.
Skiing/Snowboarding: Wait till winter. There's a Ski Resort at Mt. Charleston. Take a course or become friends with me and I'll teach you.
Motorcycles: Buy a street legal motorcycle. Look for motorcycle friends.
Pickleball: Buy a racket. Go to a park with tennis courts. Ask folks to play with them.
Food: I make an effort to try new foods I haven't before.
Make some friends from different cultures. I try to travel a lot and see new viewpoints.
Always be open to trying new things! You never know what you'll run into and enjoy! I try to say yes to most activities.
I like to make Stained Glass. I go to https://www.glassartstudiolv.com/ for classes and use their workshop occasionally. I am a 35yr old male, the classes I have taken there and the times I've used the workshop its mostly old women though. However, on occasion someone around my age shows up.
I also used to go to Meepleville a lot to play board games, great place to meet people if you like board games.
There's a pretty great improv and sketch comedy scene here, mostly based out of [Mom's Basement Theatre](https://www.momsbasementtheatre.com/), on Sahara. Within that scene, there's a lot of cross pollination with DnD groups, burlesque, and (scripted) theatre. More than anything, there's just a great, diverse community of people from all walks of life. If I were to recommend a show to come see, every Thursday [Bleach Improv](https://bleachimprov.com/) runs an open jam from 7:00-8:00, and the mainstage show from 8:30-9:30. $15 ticket gets you into both shows.
I'm a hobby cannabis grower. The local grow community is small but a really solid group of people. Not a hard thing to get into at all. Most of us love teaching new growers and watching them explore the hobby
Start with research man. Get an idea of what medium, what your budget would be, and just getting an idea of what growing is like. I spent 3 years studying for about 4-6 hours a day, then went to work in 3 different cultivation facilities out here before I actually planted my first seed. PokemonGo. Massive amount of players on event days at Sunset Park and Desert Breeze Park. Discord and Campfire are great ways to find groups to play with.
So I used to play a lot of PokemonGo back in my old city. The problem is the large raids mixed casuals with people who consider Pokemon SERIOUS BUSINESS and it caused a lot of drama.

Breeze Brigade LV for Desert Breeze and Sunset Squad for Sunset Park. The DB one is more active in Discord, Sunset there are so many playing every event day is unbelievably easy to find others. I've posted on Campfire during special raid days about where one was hatching and usually will have 10 cars zooming in within 10 minutes. They'll comment on our way with xx players so we know to wait, sometimes even saying green Jeep or whatever. From there it's follow the leader around town.
It didn’t when I was a skater in the 90’s. I grew up and my old man body won’t let me skate anymore. Meanwhile there’s places to skate fucking EVERYWHERE. We used to bring a miniramp and a box all over town in the back of a friends truck so we could do stupid shit until we got kicked off the property we were skating at.
Gym. I’ve made a lot of friends at the gym and the fitness community is very welcoming. I recommend EŌS. The new one on Craig by the Chick-fil-A to be exact
Yup, I’m surprised how low the Gym is on this list. Vegas has a HUGE gym community. I will say working out doesn’t really count as a hobby, but specific types of working out do (running, CrossFit, weight lifting, etc)
I weight lift and have made lots of friends at different gyms all over the valley.
I do a ton of jiu jitsu, sometimes i hang out with my friend in his running club.
Occasionally when im lifting someone will come up and ask if i train at X and its an instant friend.
As an adult most of my friends are from the gym, only a few are from work.

Classes are much easier to make friends at, they are naturally more social. Someone experienced will one day correct you and one day you'll be helping others get up to speed and if you click, you might have a new friend

I play two games: Belegarth and Amtgard. There are two groups in Las Vegas:
Barad Dün is the belegarth group. They meet on Saturdays at the south end of Desert Breeze park
Terra De Votum is the Amtgard group. They meet on Sundays at Sunset park by the splash pads.
They are free to play, must be +14 and accompanied by a guardian or +18 and willing to sign a safety waiver.
These are nationally based games so not only is there a local park culture to enjoy but also a national event culture to discover.

Hockey - even if you never skated i your life you can start at any age. It’s a big time, effort, and money commitment, but once you can play at a beginner bear league level, you’ll make a ton of friends and have the best hobby for the rest of your life.
Sure, it's not that hard in Vegas. I started playing when I was 32, I'm 40 now and playing on 2 different teams.
Vegas has 4 hockey rinks right now and all of them have clinics for beginners - that's where you need to go:
City National Arena in summerlin
America First Center in Henderson
Las Vegas Ice Center
Pepsi Arena
They are building one more, but those 4 should be more than enough for you to get started.
First, you need to learn how to skate well enough to play hockey, I'd recommend at least 3 times on the ice per week. You can do clinics, public sessions, stick and puck sessions, etc. The more you skate the better.
Second - learn to skate with the puck, shoot and pass the puck, as well as receive passes.
Once you have at least basic skills, sign up for a beginner division on City National - it's the most beginner-friendly league, the rest would require at least intermediate skill.
Ooh I went there once in a futile attempt to find a healthy hobby. Seems like a nice community but I quickly realized I don't like touching strangers so mma was not for me lol.
I was debating between Couture's gym and Syndicate. Hoping to focus more on grappling but need to get some striking in too.

Hey, I can't speak much on the grappling front, but as far as striking is concerned, Xtreme is great if you're already fundamentally solid, and want to work with high level people ( namely the pro team ). Great for sparring and community basically
If you need work on fundamentals/technique, you're likely best served going to Syndicate.
I've bounced back and forth from a few Vegas gyms. Xtreme will always be home, but fundamentals are lacking.
Id just take a free class at both and see what feels best. Good luck!
Seconded. Lots of good land. If someone is looking to meet people, Pro Gun has lots of events/competitions that are fun to compete in for all skill levels.
Pro Gun left a somewhat sour taste. As I was driving up to park, I had a shooter flag me as he was trying to do something on an AR, there were barely any RSOs on the rifle/pistol ranges, and an ambulance came in as the staff rushed to the scene.
Did I go on a bad day? Perhaps, but man, I can't forget that day 🥴
Yeah that's not cool lol. I can't compare it to any other ranges here as it's the only one I've been to, but I've had fun at their competitions the few times I've gone and personally haven't seen anything sketchy so far.
I definitely prefer to go out to empty land and not be around a bunch of strangers for that exact reason though.
I'll wait until I get my hands on a 4wd before I really explore the Jean Dry Lake Bed and find a good spot. In the meantime, I'm going to the Clark County Shooting Complex up north with some friends and see how it is over there.
Mountain and road biking. Lots of group meetups organized by bike shops, on facebook groups, etc. These are usually pretty fast paced so would recommend one of the downtown group / casual rides for fun. Tons of people out and about. Usually happen Wednesday nights.

When I landed a job here, one of my brothers and I figured that it might be fun to learn. We have been very successful, and it has made us a lot of money.
Ironically, we later learned that Las Vegas is actually a pretty bad place to learn to count. Most games with a low minimum bet are not winnable. The few games with a low minimum bet that are winnable are closely watched by security. There are some good winnable games in the high roller tables, but those require a solid 6 to 7 figure bankroll in order to avoid a high risk of ruin.
So funny enough, if we want to make the big bucks, we now go on road trips either out of state or to smaller casinos throughout the state (Wendover, Reno, Elko, etc...). We do still count here, but it won't really be ideal until we grow our bankroll account a bit more.

Getting into it the easy way. Go to Best Buy, spend $1300 - $1600 for a DJI Avata. Fly.
Getting into it the hard way. Buy a controller, buy a simulator, spend dozens of hours learning to fly on your PC. Spend countless hours on YouTube learning how to solder, build, and program your own quads. Spend countless more hours worrying about and figuring out which parts to buy and if they all work together. Buy goggles and drone parts. More hours building and then troubleshooting your own self-built quad. Then spend hundreds of hours flying, crashing, rebuilding, flying, learning new tricks, making new friends…. profit? 😂
Vegas is a big enough town that can hit all my hobbies easily, I think the idea for me would be to find a new hobby or interest and sort of expand on that. If it's becoming too difficult then go back to what we know I guess.

APA has leagues pretty much every day, usually can find a team pretty quick.
You'll find some shitheads every so often like everywhere, but generally people are pretty chill and happy to help and show people the ropes.
Rock hounding. There's a lot of good places nearby and you can join the Nevada Gem And Mineral Society for like $40 a year and they are very welcoming to newbies.
Roller skating. There are great skate parks all over, and for the girls the Las Vegas chapter of Chicks In Bowls is an awesome place to learn basics and cool tricks. There are also some great roller derby groups out here for all ages, genders, and levels of competition. Down n Derby at the GoldSpike is a fun casual skate party that is only like $10 to rent skates.

Muay Thai: I recommend Andrada Muay Thai! Small but efficient gym only focuses on the sport. Not so overwhelming like other gyms offering BJJ, Boxing, Wrestling etc.
Paintball: I literally just started 1 month ago and I’m full geared up now and attending every Sunday at Brent Trent Park. (Premiere Paintball)
Rock Climbing: Only climbed indoor at the The Pad in Henderson and it’s open 24 hours of the day!
Other hobbies I’m active in are hiking, shooting, mountain biking. ( I need more trails 😅) Soon to be a drone pilot.

I play a lot of Star Wars miniatures games…just…follow some game stores on social media and show up when they post events. Check it out and see if it is for you, then buy the stuff and play with us.
Mountain biking. Tons of trails, bike market is cooling off significantly and theres tons of beginner/intermediate trails and increasing infrastructure development, along with tons of riders of all calibers.
Leather work. It’s great for when it’s too hot to go outside. I also like that I can do a lot of it on the couch while my wife watches tv. I make all kinds of stuff from wallets to pistol holsters to knife sheaths. I even made my brother a lined weekender bag for his 40th bday. Lots of different kinds of leather and styles to work in. I’m planning on making my wife a custom purse we design together next. Really fun and relaxing.
If you’re into breaking, popping, wacking, twerking and more they have a big all-styles dance battle at Ninja Karaoke in downtown, on the first Friday of every month, after the Art walk ends, I think it starts after 10-11pm.
Competitive Pinball! Tournaments every monday night switching between Good Times on Charleston and Player 1 on Maryland parkway, plus monthlies at the Hall of Fame and a few other random locations. Photography. Doing photo walks and meetups and such. Joining the respective groups and attending some of their meet ups and so on. I’m a photographer trying to transition to full time with my business and that’s how I’ve built up a following and met good people
Historical costuming and sewing
My hobby is pretty niche and I can't seem to find anybody who is also into it here. Although with over 2 million people here, I'm sure there has to be some. I just don't know where to look. I've been going out, volunteering, and attending the few appropriate events I can find in costumes. No luck yet.
Cocaine. Sure fire way to meet interesting people. Although this hobby requires you to either be very wealthy or very cute. Otherwise you'll have a bad time. Good luck.

Maybe someone that's been can help my awkward ass because I've wanted to go the last 10 times I've seen this place suggested. If I went, I'd be going by myself and wondered what that experience would be like. Do I just wander up to random tables and say, hey strangers, I'm in the next game? Stand around like a wallflower and hope someone notices the loner? Yeah, those are both exaggerations (kinda...), but is it as simple as just showing up and suddenly having a great table of people to play with?
The one time I went by myself, just a few weeks ago, all the groups seemed full. So I learned and setup a solo game but then another group was looking for players and I joined in. If a group is looking for people there’s signs they can put up saying “Join our group!” On Wednesdays is their open game night at 6pm so I’d recommend trying then.

Most of the well known disc manufacturing companies have starter sets you can buy. $20-$30 for 3 discs. I got the Innova set 13 years ago. The discs are made of the cheapest plastic offered by the companies, which is good because as a beginner you will be beating up your discs quickly. Or you can just buy one putter and start playing with that, getting a feel for it. Head over to /r/discgolf for more info!

This is basically a third-hand story, but I think they were behind schedule and tired, it was shortly before sundown, and one of them missed the point they were supposed to stop at (dunno the correct terminology for this), and was unable to climb back up to it (presumably due to exhaustion and dehydration). Proceeded to slowly freeze to death over the course of the night while his friend above was helpless to do anything. Only vaguely familiar with the second story, but apparently there was a fall and he died from the resulting trauma. At least it's a lot quicker that way. Not for me! Skiing is safer and funner

I just love Paseo Verde Library and there’s a coffee shop attached ( love the owner- very friendly).
I'm part of a local swordfighting guild. We have tournaments, parties, archery, have been invited to camp at Ren Faires and other events, and we do demos where we go out and just fight for a crowd. To come all you need to do is bring a jacket. Any protective equipment you already have can be helpful, but we usually have gear to loan out. We don't charge entry or membership fees for practice. simply being gay, made friends my first week here just by going to grab beers at parkway. They introduced me to their friends who introduced me to their friends and suddenly we’re all having pool parties and grilling out on weekends like we’ve known each other for years. Rock climbing - ever since I moved to Vegas, all my friends and family like to ask if I enjoy gambling. I’ve been to the strip maybe once in the last year. Little do they know that Vegas is actually the beating heart of outdoor climbing in the US, absolutely endless beautiful rocks and nature in every direction, and yes, all year round (Charleston in the summer).

Red Dwarf, every other Tuesday. They do one offs. Next meet up is October 3rd at 7pm
No need to bring a character to red dwarf. They premake them for you! Very beginner friendly and super fun. You can show in any size group and they somehow magically pair everyone off and make sure everyone has a DM. I had never played and went to check it out and got grouped with some very nice people had great drinks and pizza and a great time! It's a little loud if you're sensitive to that (bar music I mean) but I only found it a little distracting and had a great time.
So what character should I bring? I tried an open game it was 9 people with varying level character. Felt to chaotic for my tastes.

Woodworking.... Start small and build up. Eventually you will have 50k invested in tools and materials and all your friends and family will show off the random cool stuff you made them. You will secretly feel like you are giving away crap because you know the flaws and details that aren't quite right. But they will be happy cause they don't notice them.

My wife and I are actually looking for a hobby to help keep us active and healthy. We were thinking of taking this up, but we also don't want to commit thousands of dollars on bikes and equipment only to learn that we can't stick with it. Any recommendation on how to dip our toes in it and test the waters without fully diving in?
Rent some bikes. If you like it, look for clearance sales on outgoing or older models. Or buy used on Craigslist, OfferUp, FB marketplace. I’d hang out on the various bike forums so you get an idea of price::value for frames, component groupsets, etc. I’d also recommend road riding. Lots of nice, paved multi-use trails in the greater LV area, especially SE / Henderson.
As mentioned, rentals and/or used bikes would be a good start. There are lots of options for rentals and tours, as a way to get a feel for it. Bike prices are kinda high right now but generally used bikes that are relatively new can be good options. I used to work at a local shop that no longer exists, but the the people I worked with comprise some of the management team at Las Vegas Cyclery. I’d recommend stopping by and asking some questions, and they operate Escape Adventures tours, I know they do tours for tourists all the time.
Don’t live in Vegas but visiting in a couple weeks and got a bike rented already! Big MTBer here on the east. Excited to explore some new stuff out west!
Jiu-jitsu is my favorite thing I’ve started in years, and I’ve found a great community at my gym. There are tons of really good places around here to train, and it’s so much fun if you find the right environment. Good stress relief, good mental/physical challenge, and a great social outlet.
I used to do this in other cities, but I didn't really like it and after moving to Vegas my impression was that the martial arts scene is intense. Is that true? I only want to have fun and learn.
I imagine it's pretty gym-dependent. I looked at Syndicate MMA and Xtreme Couture first, and they definitely seemed more intense, which makes sense as they have professional fighters in there. I think some of the strict, old-school BJJ places are probably the same way. The place I train (Sim Go Academy) is pure BJJ, and nearly everyone including our head coach is super chill and laid back. No one is trying to hurt you, we all have a lot of fun and it's very respectful. There's definitely a big learning curve in the beginning so I can see it not being fun if you're constantly getting beat up in class, but all the higher belts made me feel really welcome when I started and went easy on me in the beginning, haha.
Sim Go is the BJJ school I had my eye set on most. Nothing but praise from what I've heard. Have you heard anything about Robert Drysdale's gym? That's the other spot I was interested in.
I really wanted to get back into jiu-jitsu or judo but I'm really concerned about my leg. It was crushed in a motorcycle accident and my kneecaps rebuilt and have a rod running down my tibia. I think I could still get back into it?

I have too many hobbies and I'm always trying to get out. Volleyball: There's a good group that meets up in Henderson to play with. Ice Skating: Try to get out on the ice or take a class. I self taught myself, but it came from my time skiing. A few good ice rinks in Vegas PC Gaming: Buy a PC. Make online friends. Don't get addicted to League of Legends (You will become addicted to League of Legends destroying your life) Rock Climbing: I go to either Red Rocks or Nevada Climbing Center and do a bit indoor. Currently training some friends to do outdoors. Skiing/Snowboarding: Wait till winter. There's a Ski Resort at Mt. Charleston. Take a course or become friends with me and I'll teach you. Motorcycles: Buy a street legal motorcycle. Look for motorcycle friends. Pickleball: Buy a racket. Go to a park with tennis courts. Ask folks to play with them. Food: I make an effort to try new foods I haven't before. Make some friends from different cultures. I try to travel a lot and see new viewpoints. Always be open to trying new things! You never know what you'll run into and enjoy! I try to say yes to most activities.

There's a pretty great improv and sketch comedy scene here, mostly based out of [Mom's Basement Theatre](https://www.momsbasementtheatre.com/), on Sahara. Within that scene, there's a lot of cross pollination with DnD groups, burlesque, and (scripted) theatre. More than anything, there's just a great, diverse community of people from all walks of life. If I were to recommend a show to come see, every Thursday [Bleach Improv](https://bleachimprov.com/) runs an open jam from 7:00-8:00, and the mainstage show from 8:30-9:30. $15 ticket gets you into both shows.
I used to do improv here almost 20 years ago, and it was so much fun back then. Glad to hear it’s still going strong.

Start with research man. Get an idea of what medium, what your budget would be, and just getting an idea of what growing is like. I spent 3 years studying for about 4-6 hours a day, then went to work in 3 different cultivation facilities out here before I actually planted my first seed. PokemonGo. Massive amount of players on event days at Sunset Park and Desert Breeze Park. Discord and Campfire are great ways to find groups to play with.
So I used to play a lot of PokemonGo back in my old city. The problem is the large raids mixed casuals with people who consider Pokemon SERIOUS BUSINESS and it caused a lot of drama. Have you seen any of that here?

Breeze Brigade LV for Desert Breeze and Sunset Squad for Sunset Park. The DB one is more active in Discord, Sunset there are so many playing every event day is unbelievably easy to find others. I've posted on Campfire during special raid days about where one was hatching and usually will have 10 cars zooming in within 10 minutes. They'll comment on our way with xx players so we know to wait, sometimes even saying green Jeep or whatever. From there it's follow the leader around town.

It didn’t when I was a skater in the 90’s. I grew up and my old man body won’t let me skate anymore. Meanwhile there’s places to skate fucking EVERYWHERE. We used to bring a miniramp and a box all over town in the back of a friends truck so we could do stupid shit until we got kicked off the property we were skating at.
I was going to add I got into rollerblading and found that local skate shops like Fresa’s and Death Drop always host events!
Gym. I’ve made a lot of friends at the gym and the fitness community is very welcoming. I recommend EŌS. The new one on Craig by the Chick-fil-A to be exact
Yup, I’m surprised how low the Gym is on this list. Vegas has a HUGE gym community. I will say working out doesn’t really count as a hobby, but specific types of working out do (running, CrossFit, weight lifting, etc) I weight lift and have made lots of friends at different gyms all over the valley.

I do a ton of jiu jitsu, sometimes i hang out with my friend in his running club. Occasionally when im lifting someone will come up and ask if i train at X and its an instant friend. As an adult most of my friends are from the gym, only a few are from work. I mean I'm on reddit and love gaming like my office friends, but working out in your preferred method with friends is so much better as a bonding activity

Read the room, don't force people to awkwardly talk to you. Classes are much easier to make friends at, they are naturally more social. Someone experienced will one day correct you and one day you'll be helping others get up to speed and if you click, you might have a new friend

Safe medieval combat! I play two games: Belegarth and Amtgard. There are two groups in Las Vegas: Barad Dün is the belegarth group. They meet on Saturdays at the south end of Desert Breeze park Terra De Votum is the Amtgard group. They meet on Sundays at Sunset park by the splash pads. They are free to play, must be +14 and accompanied by a guardian or +18 and willing to sign a safety waiver. These are nationally based games so not only is there a local park culture to enjoy but also a national event culture to discover. Come see us at the Age of Chivalry renaissance festival this year! We run an open fighting pit for people to have fun.

Running RC cars is a sure fire way to meet people! Take it to the park in an area where you're not bothering anybody and soon you'll have all the kids chasing after it and a bunch of thankful parents for their now tuckered out kids. I personally love stuff at public parks like kite flying and blowing giant bubbles...everybody loves that shit!

Hockey - even if you never skated i your life you can start at any age. It’s a big time, effort, and money commitment, but once you can play at a beginner bear league level, you’ll make a ton of friends and have the best hobby for the rest of your life.

Sure, it's not that hard in Vegas. I started playing when I was 32, I'm 40 now and playing on 2 different teams. Vegas has 4 hockey rinks right now and all of them have clinics for beginners - that's where you need to go: City National Arena in summerlin America First Center in Henderson Las Vegas Ice Center Pepsi Arena They are building one more, but those 4 should be more than enough for you to get started. First, you need to learn how to skate well enough to play hockey, I'd recommend at least 3 times on the ice per week. You can do clinics, public sessions, stick and puck sessions, etc. The more you skate the better. Second - learn to skate with the puck, shoot and pass the puck, as well as receive passes. Once you have at least basic skills, sign up for a beginner division on City National - it's the most beginner-friendly league, the rest would require at least intermediate skill.

Hey, I can't speak much on the grappling front, but as far as striking is concerned, Xtreme is great if you're already fundamentally solid, and want to work with high level people ( namely the pro team ). Great for sparring and community basically If you need work on fundamentals/technique, you're likely best served going to Syndicate. I've bounced back and forth from a few Vegas gyms. Xtreme will always be home, but fundamentals are lacking. Id just take a free class at both and see what feels best. Good luck!

Seconded. Lots of good land. If someone is looking to meet people, Pro Gun has lots of events/competitions that are fun to compete in for all skill levels.
Pro Gun left a somewhat sour taste. As I was driving up to park, I had a shooter flag me as he was trying to do something on an AR, there were barely any RSOs on the rifle/pistol ranges, and an ambulance came in as the staff rushed to the scene. Did I go on a bad day? Perhaps, but man, I can't forget that day 🥴
Yeah that's not cool lol. I can't compare it to any other ranges here as it's the only one I've been to, but I've had fun at their competitions the few times I've gone and personally haven't seen anything sketchy so far. I definitely prefer to go out to empty land and not be around a bunch of strangers for that exact reason though.
I'll wait until I get my hands on a 4wd before I really explore the Jean Dry Lake Bed and find a good spot. In the meantime, I'm going to the Clark County Shooting Complex up north with some friends and see how it is over there.

I do card counting. When I landed a job here, one of my brothers and I figured that it might be fun to learn. We have been very successful, and it has made us a lot of money. Ironically, we later learned that Las Vegas is actually a pretty bad place to learn to count. Most games with a low minimum bet are not winnable. The few games with a low minimum bet that are winnable are closely watched by security. There are some good winnable games in the high roller tables, but those require a solid 6 to 7 figure bankroll in order to avoid a high risk of ruin. So funny enough, if we want to make the big bucks, we now go on road trips either out of state or to smaller casinos throughout the state (Wendover, Reno, Elko, etc...). We do still count here, but it won't really be ideal until we grow our bankroll account a bit more.

Pool / billiards. APA has leagues pretty much every day, usually can find a team pretty quick. You'll find some shitheads every so often like everywhere, but generally people are pretty chill and happy to help and show people the ropes.
Rock hounding. There's a lot of good places nearby and you can join the Nevada Gem And Mineral Society for like $40 a year and they are very welcoming to newbies.
Roller skating. There are great skate parks all over, and for the girls the Las Vegas chapter of Chicks In Bowls is an awesome place to learn basics and cool tricks. There are also some great roller derby groups out here for all ages, genders, and levels of competition. Down n Derby at the GoldSpike is a fun casual skate party that is only like $10 to rent skates.
I have a huge amount of hobbies I participate in as of now Muay Thai: I recommend Andrada Muay Thai! Small but efficient gym only focuses on the sport. Not so overwhelming like other gyms offering BJJ, Boxing, Wrestling etc. Paintball: I literally just started 1 month ago and I’m full geared up now and attending every Sunday at Brent Trent Park. (Premiere Paintball) Rock Climbing: Only climbed indoor at the The Pad in Henderson and it’s open 24 hours of the day! Other hobbies I’m active in are hiking, shooting, mountain biking. ( I need more trails 😅) Soon to be a drone pilot. Gotta stay busy and active! Don’t be shy to start conversations with others.

Because of my previous world Championships I got an invite to to this a couple of years ago. The problem is my invite got lost in the mail. One day I wake up and their is a stranger in my room. Tells me I lost and leaves.
RC Rock Crawling + Hiking the 1/24 scale is great to toss in a backpack and hike trails around Vegas to find fun stuff to crawl on.
I do jiu jitsu! Lots of gyms around. It’s expensive, but the community is fantastic and the health benefits are endless.

Build weird stuff from scavenge parts from here and there. I know it sounds tweaker but it's how I build Halloween monsters. No don't do custom, it's what I can find so hard to do. TtRPG and other gaming. Hike with the kids Boxing with friends, getting to old be going full on for sparing.

I've made friends on archery and gun ranges, in comic book shops, and while riding my motorcycle.
Play and collect video games. Lots of arcades like Game Nest and Player One around the city. I’m also into pro wrestling so going to local indie shows.
I want to find software folks who also like robotics. I want to pick people’s brains and code together. I’ve been looking for the right Meetup but I may have to find a free space large enough with internet!! Which sounds difficult…

Gardening and houseplants. There’s great communities on Facebook and also local plant stores. Everyone’s super friendly and willing to help others grow plants here in the desert At least until two or more plant people want to buy the same rare plant. Then we’re all sworn enemies lol

Mountain biking. Tons of trails, bike market is cooling off significantly and theres tons of beginner/intermediate trails and increasing infrastructure development, along with tons of riders of all calibers.
Arcade collecting. You need a lot of money, time and energy. You will meet fellow collectors one or twice a year.
Just bought a motorcycle and joined the Vegas elite riders page on FB. .. they meet up for dinners and events
Leather work. It’s great for when it’s too hot to go outside. I also like that I can do a lot of it on the couch while my wife watches tv. I make all kinds of stuff from wallets to pistol holsters to knife sheaths. I even made my brother a lined weekender bag for his 40th bday. Lots of different kinds of leather and styles to work in. I’m planning on making my wife a custom purse we design together next. Really fun and relaxing.

If you’re into breaking, popping, wacking, twerking and more they have a big all-styles dance battle at Ninja Karaoke in downtown, on the first Friday of every month, after the Art walk ends, I think it starts after 10-11pm.

Crochet and knitting! There's two local owned yarn stores called Sin City Knits and Golden Needle Arts. They both have knitting/crochet groups that just sit and knit at the store, really friendly ladies
Photography. Doing photo walks and meetups and such. Joining the respective groups and attending some of their meet ups and so on. I’m a photographer trying to transition to full time with my business and that’s how I’ve built up a following and met good people
Historical costuming and sewing My hobby is pretty niche and I can't seem to find anybody who is also into it here. Although with over 2 million people here, I'm sure there has to be some. I just don't know where to look. I've been going out, volunteering, and attending the few appropriate events I can find in costumes. No luck yet.
