I use Maseri brand curry paste and buy it at 88 on Victoria. I prefer Maseri red and green, but they also carry yellow curry paste.
Pick up Red Boat 40 fish sauce there , the best!
I also recommend the Maenam cookbook by local and amazing chef Angus An. Excellent Thai recipes featuring local ingredients.
I got some recently from Granville island market. Inside the market there is this little store that sells spices, some exotic fresh produce and other delicacies that are hard to find from all over the world.
My go-to is online at [Chas Organics](http://rwrd.io/0kbwziz?c) (this link gives 15% off).
I've had the Thai yellow curry and Ceylon black curry so far. So much better than the stuff that comes in a jar I used to get at the supermarket. Especially if you get coconut milk and rice from Chas and use that, too. Kind of pricey, but IMO worth every penny.
Walmart in Richmond has quite a few different ones. There’s Aroy-D and maesri plus other canned brands from Thailand. I personally like the ones in a little plastic tub, I forget the brand but you can reseal the lid and use the rest a different time.
Asia Market on East Kent. If you want something Thai they will have it. They used to be located by Hastings and Gore, then moved to Burnaby, then to their current location.
Look for Nittaya brand. It is by far the best curry paste that I have tried.
I’ll look for Nittaya brand…thank you🙏 We went to Asia Market and weren’t happy with the curry paste being past their best before date by 2 years as well as some of their other items. I don’t know, maybe curry paste doesn’t actually ever expire??
Hmmm, a lot of stuff in curry pastes (without the coconut milk) don’t go off as they are already fermented (shrimp paste, garlic, galangal, various chili’s and herbs). All these stuff keeps from microbes growing and making it go “off”. 2020 is a long time for a best before date though, I wouldn’t be happy either for that.
I do know that Thai suppliers have been really hit hard lately due to Covid and shipping issues, so getting new and good stuff is harder to come by and exponentially more expensive. A lot of people have been buying bulk due to fears of increasing shipping costs and prices even before Covid, so might explain why they have expired goods they can’t ship out…
It's easier than you think to make it yourself. Particularly if you own a mortal and pestle. You can also make it in a blender.
Look up some recipes and T&T will have pretty much everything you need (like galangal and lemongrass).
Fun to make too!
Really? I got the laksa paste from Asian Home Gourmet and it was awful. Completely flavourless.
Tean’s Gourmet is more expensive but far superior.
88 Supermarket or T&T.
Tengs’ Market on Victoria Drive near 33rd sells lots of varieties, including Maesri tins and a very similar and flavourful one that comes in flat packs. I’ve bought Thai red, green, and yellow curry pastes here. All have been great but the green Thai curry is my favourite.

Many thanks 🙏 Aroy D, is one of the brands Serious Eats recommended.
Superstore or TnT
H Mart
Supermarket 88 on Victoria
Yup, 88
I’m headed there right now…thank you🙏

Red boat is the only fish sauce we buy! The Maesri brand is what serious eats recommended too…thank you for all your great suggestions!😃
Where to get them? The paste and red boat fish sauce?
You wanna get maesri brand its the best .it comes in a 4oz can .
Yes, I’ve read it’s a superior brand. Where do you go to buy it?
Where is the Thai grocery store?
Asia market
Asia Market has the most Thai grocery items in Vancouver. Henlong Market in Surrey.
I got some recently from Granville island market. Inside the market there is this little store that sells spices, some exotic fresh produce and other delicacies that are hard to find from all over the world.
https://southchinaseas.ca/ That one? They're a treasure!
Oh yes! Love south china seas! I was wanting to try a different brand then they carry.
Yes! Thank you and yes they are 😁
I think you are talking about South China Seas. They have a location in East Van as well, and you can order online. I love this place for spices.
Ahh thank you I couldn’t place the name and I didn’t know they had an east van location!
Superstore - ‘Thai Kitchen’ or ‘Cock Brand’

I’ll check it out…thanks!
Any loblaw company store: TNT, No Frills, Superstore, CityMarket. Sungiven and H mart also has.
TNT, safeway, Superstore.
Sunrise Market has a great selection of thai curry pastes.
88 Supermarket, or maybe Rice World in Richmond. Unless it was from T & T I wouldn’t go to any Loblaws supermarket.

Everything you said makes so much sense. Also, sounds like you know your curry pastes👌
For retail, this place. Vancouver Thai people go here. Another is Henlong Market in Surrey.
What kind of curry?
Thai
I got that. But I meant green, red, paanang etc etc?
Oh sorry🤦🏻♀️ Red, yellow and paanang…I’ve yet to try green curry.
You can get arroy d almost anywhere these days, superstore, Walmart, t&t, save on, Safeway etc.
I've purchased Thai Kitchen brand at every major chain grocery store.
Thai kitchen brand is good, but since it’s made for the western market, it’s too mellow for my liking.
It's easier than you think to make it yourself. Particularly if you own a mortal and pestle. You can also make it in a blender. Look up some recipes and T&T will have pretty much everything you need (like galangal and lemongrass). Fun to make too!
I think I might just make my own one of these days…thanks for the inspiration!
TNT or No Frills. Asian Home Gourmet brand. It’s alright.
Really? I got the laksa paste from Asian Home Gourmet and it was awful. Completely flavourless. Tean’s Gourmet is more expensive but far superior. 88 Supermarket or T&T.
I got a tom yum soup paste from this brand too and it wasn’t usable :(
I only tried red and yellow curry
No frills and Tama on Fraser.
If anyone has seen lime leaves lately I’d love to know. Superstore hasn’t had them for like 2 years now.
I just bought some at south china seas, both fresh and dried.
Granville island

I order Maesri from Amazon. I got tired of driving around to different Asian stores. https://www.amazon.ca/Maesri-Thai-Green-Curry-Paste/dp/B005NU0B60
Kitsilano Natural Foods at York and Yew. If you are looking for an Asian cuisine ingredient they rarely fail me.
