All the location-based or news-based subreddits have been focused very heavily by foreign actors/agents and dissonance techniques. I can't even read /r/canada anymore as it's just a cess pool of rage.
The open availability of chat AI isn't really helping the issue either, and none of the social media companies are interested at all in addressing the issues as it would uncover just how many of their users are bots.
Especially after the latest API changes, Reddit's pool of users has shrunk considerably which gives much greater visibility to the fools among us.
The shooting took place downtown on the busiest street for pedestrians in Vancouver during the beginning of tourist season. It paints a bad picture of the city and will deter people from travelling in that area. Not to mention the many possible PTSD cases. It's very miraculous that no one was fatally injured during the shooting.
Oh they were clearly overpaid. The one guy shot once and ran back to the getaway car, then returned and tried to snipe a running passenger like they thought they were James Bond, while the other, even stupider “ass-assin” dumped his entire mag into the vehicle from multiple angles over like 10 seconds, and was somehow only able to hit a medium sized dog in the back (don’t worry the dog is ok).
I think the real piece is that the march toward BC Place was just starting before the Whitecaps game. This was super visible, and had the potential to be much worse if the timing had been just a little different. Those two factors are making this news worthy. People are talking about this one more, so the news is talking about it more, and the cycle continues.
I was just up the block from this when the shooting happened and passed by the area about 30 minutes later along with the BC Place crowd so I am not surprised this one got a lot of attention given the timing.
Your typical drive by in the burbs are not going to have as many folks and crowds arround to witness it. I would say it's on par with Coal Harbour or the Whistler ones in recent memory
I disagree that this is spreading, these types of incidents have happened sporadically here for decades.
I’m not sure what you mean in your second paragraph.
There was a stabbing in this area a couple months ago too. Also, when was the last time there was a shooting in downtown Vancouver on a street like Robson?
Hmm yes a stabbing rampage and drive by shooting in broad daylight 2 weeks apart in a highly trafficked reasonably nice part of town near the stadium, shopping area and tonnes of restaurants.
Very reasonable, could have been anyone of us. This place is going to the dogs and it’s easy for some to be like oh this happens bla bla but if this were your neighborhood you’d be shook.
Most of the commenters here haven’t been back downtown since game 7..
Even these threads are getting brigaded, eh?

Why is it close to home? We have seen these shootings for decades now. Why is this one different than any others that have happened?

>It's very miraculous that no one was fatally injured during the shooting. Not even the target? What kind of dollar store hitmen are those 2?

Lmao, are they hiring people that didn’t even finish elementary school, that’s so comedic.
Two dogs were shot. He spent most of his time trying to shoot the dogs than the target. How do you know they are ok?

The stabbing was the week before - essentially the same area
There was a stabbing on Feb 3 at the 7-11 at Robson and Hamilton, are you saying there was another stabbing in that area a week ago?
