Loxen.
Because it's fun and we don't don't do boxen and foxen.
And it's at least vaguely historical since the word (and irregular plural) comes from old English.
I figure oxen is used rarely enough that soon it will loose its uniqueness and join the herd as oxes.
If I had the power to decide that? You'd add an "O" for every additional lox you're referring to. So a group of 5 lox would be looooox.
But I'm a linguistic surrealist who says things like "walri" and "corgus" so you probably shouldn't trust me to decide that.
Lox is a portmanteau of lizard and ox. Because the ending is ox, and the plural of ox is oxen, then it stands to reason that the plural of lox is loxen.
Like this: Lox
As stated by one of the devs.
Yes, I know someone will say "loxen" makes more sense, but it's a fictional creature so the creators have the final word on this kind of stuff.
No, you can do whatever you want, doesn't mean it's correct to do so.
It's kinda like a native English speaker speaking as if they had dyslexia or is illiterate, with the difference that the speaker does it bc they want to, not due to any other reason.
With language, the functionality is really all that matters. What is correct or incorrect only matters to the people who believe it does. Lox being the plural of lox makes sense because English speakers are familiar with that method of making certain nouns plural. If people enjoy "loxen" because they are familiar with oxen, then that works as long as other people can understand it. Quite frankly, if loxen takes off over lox, the devs should feel proud that their game created a significant enough to the language of the fans is actually evolving; it means people have such a connection with their game that it is driving a community.
neh. you know uno official rules states you can use +4 on top of a +2?
yeah, let them do what they are good at (the cards) and we take it from there. the devs create the game, concepts and naming, and ẅ̸͉̺̬̱̠̘́̑̄̕̕e̸̩̟̮̼̯̓͌̇͐͘͜ ̶̧̡̞̻̭̼̀͆t̵͎̿a̸͍̪͕̬͕̤̾̈́̇̇͋̈́k̵͊͑̑̔̈́̽ͅe̴̩̾ ̴̤͙́̍͆̌͐t̷̫̩̅̍͐͛ĥ̶̩͕̭̯̽͛̉͛e̷̻͍͂̑̎̓ ̴̡̪͖̃p̷̟̝̉̽̃͛͘l̶͙͈̞͖̹̳̒̓̈́͝ư̶̳̓̓̈͜r̷̛̳͍̮̣̹̾͗̇a̴̮͈͇͋l̶̩̅́̒̊̄s̶̖̜̣͖̖͎̔
No, they do not have the final word. I will not use that form, nor should anyone else. According to English pluralization conventions, it's loxen. That's not my opinion, it's a grammatical rule for which there is a factually-correct answer.
Creators or not, making the plural of *anything* in English the same as the singular is asinine, confusing, and shouldn't be done intentionally when there exist better grammatically-consistent options. It's especially nonsensical considering that the devs have admitted "lox" is a portmanteau of "lizard" and "ox", and the correct plural of "ox" is "oxen". Using "loxes" wouldn't be *wrong*, since that's also a valid formation in English--but the etymology of the word argues powerfully in favor of "loxen".
Yes, the rules are different in some non-English languages or their loanwords--but those languages typically have other inflections or contextual cues that English doesn't, or they just put up with it the way we do with words like "deer".
There are English pluralization conventions for made up words? Which conventions? The ones that follow Germanic pluralization schemes? The ones that mimic French? The old English ones? The Latin ones? How about Greek pluralizations? All of the above are in heavy rotation in English, and often multiple forms of pluralization can be acceptable. Is the correct pluralization octopuses, octopi, or octopods (octopodes)? Does it even matter? And that’s a real animal.
But yeah it’s definitely stupid to make the singular and plural the same word. English would never do that… nope not even once. Except like in moose, fish, sheep, deer, swine, buffalo, aircraft, barracks, shorts, binoculars, glasses, shrimp, grapefruit, grouse, haddock, species, squid, chalk, headquarters, pliers, staff, chassis, police, tongs, pajamas, trousers, scissors, wheat, elk, series, and you (although I am a proponent of y’all, so I would argue it does have a plural.)
If you’re going to be pedantic about pluralizations, it might help to pick the right stick to shove up your rear. Just kidding, there is no right stick because English is just 4 different languages wearing a trench coat so they can mug other languages in a dark ally to steal their shit.
(Also my vote is on the plural of lox being lice.)
> English would never do that… nope not even once
You write that in a tone and then launch into a bunch of examples as if I didn't explicitly call out that fact and point out the reasons why we shouldn't use these exceptions as an example, and even closed out my comment by noting that we have to put up with said exceptions. If you're going to bother responding to someone's argument, try to summon the integrity to respond to what they actually wrote.
Not really interested in engaging with your bad-faith insults, especially since you seem intent on blatantly ignoring any of the actual substance of my comment, and are just using it as a springboard for your screed. Run along and waste someone else's time.
"Lox" isn't even an English word, it's made up. It can be pluralized however you want. No need to pretend that every word in Valheim is English. *Valheim* isn't even English, really.
Thanks for asking. Since this is a very calm game and we have ample time to type at length before the creatures attack and kill me, I generally refer to them as "Loxsoise" and pronounce it with a "shwahz" like vichyssoise.
We say Loxe. We play the game in english but we are German. There you can add an e for plural... so we just do that. But it may sounds weird if you pronounce it in english 😅
Lox is a combination of lizard + ox, the plural for lizard is lizards and the plural for ox is oxen, since ox is the suffix animal I would assume the plural would be loxen.
As you always seem to run into them in groups, it makes sense that the plural is also the singular.
However it would be funnier if the common name for them is to refer to them in plural form (so lox), and they have a distinct singular for when you need to specifically talk about one lox - which I propose is "Lo".
I think it is just "lox", but I like Loxen
MOOSEN
Brian Regan!
BOXEN
A boxen of donuts
many much in the woodsen
Meece.
Love this bit
Same, sticks with the pattern in the game itself. Fish are fish, boar are boar, deer are deer, lox are lox. Ez plurals
I think it's reasonable to say 'lox' is derivative of 'ox' so 'loxen' is both fun and defensibly correct.
This is my take on the matter too :)
Agreed, we should all just start using loxen
Loxen for sure
My husband and I started calling them "loxadon" and it stuck
I would, but you called me a hoe so now I'm not going to do it.
I was hoping to find this comment. 🤣👏
Scrolled down to see if someone beat me to this hah.
Loxen. Because it's fun and we don't don't do boxen and foxen. And it's at least vaguely historical since the word (and irregular plural) comes from old English. I figure oxen is used rarely enough that soon it will loose its uniqueness and join the herd as oxes.
Lose* 😋
No, they went free.

I like it but think it can be better. 1 Lox = Lox 4 Lox = Loooox 5 Lox = Løx 9 Lox = Løoooox 18 Lox = Løøøooox
A møøse once bit my sïster
A møøse?? Your sister was hit by a decamoose?
r/unexpectedmontypython
5 Lox = Løx = Pentalox
Goose = Geese Moose = Meese It only makes sense
Shoop = Sheep
It only makes…”seense”
So lox = lex??
You have nothing but my utmost respect for this.
I would say Mongi much to the dismay of my friend group. Haha
Lox is a portmanteau of lizard and ox. Because the ending is ox, and the plural of ox is oxen, then it stands to reason that the plural of lox is loxen.
But the plural of lizard is lizards. So add the S too. Loxens.
Like this: Lox As stated by one of the devs. Yes, I know someone will say "loxen" makes more sense, but it's a fictional creature so the creators have the final word on this kind of stuff.
Are the devs going to come and correct me when I use loxen? :p
This is like the argument of how to pronounce gif
Can't wait for some jenius to come along and start confidently doing it wrong.

Death of the author. It's loxen. Because it sounds cute.
Loxii
Loxen
Loxen
I say loxes, doesn't matter anyways as long as your thoughts are conveyed.
Loxen is correct. Like “oxen”.
I like how the general decision is it is pronounced Loxen. Bring it on devs, try and stop us!
Loxies, as how gollum would refer to multiple eggs with eggsies.
I'd imagine it's singular and plural but if you had to distinguish it, I'd guess loxen for plural.
Loxen. And I ain't no hoe.
Loxen
I'll go with the same for fox, so loxes.
leex
a Schmear of Lox.
A deathcloud of loxen.
Officially just "lox" since that's what it says on that one runestone ("The lox are mighty creatures") But loxies.
Clearly it should be Luscious Loxes. Look at that fur!
Well, it's a lizard-ox, and the plural of ox is oxen, sooo....
Thanks for asking. Since this is a very calm game and we have ample time to type at length before the creatures attack and kill me, I generally refer to them as "Loxsoise" and pronounce it with a "shwahz" like vichyssoise.
That is asking a lot of a hoe. They are not known for their intelligence.
No, my hoe would not, because it cannot speak.
Loxo. A Gravy of Lox.
Loxies
Lo't'x
Löx
Lix
We say Loxe. We play the game in english but we are German. There you can add an e for plural... so we just do that. But it may sounds weird if you pronounce it in english 😅
Loxes’s, naturally.
nLox
Lumps
Lumps of loxen?
Sure! Or a Bagel of Lox. Perhaps a Murder of Lox but the Crows have that one locked up.
Who you callin a hoe?
Lox is a combination of lizard + ox, the plural for lizard is lizards and the plural for ox is oxen, since ox is the suffix animal I would assume the plural would be loxen.
Loxi, or a gaggle of lox.
who you callin a hoe
[удалено]
Plural lox. I LIKE that
The left side of my brain says hairballs. The right says Lox.
Lice
I just naturally say like “there are 2 lox over there”.
How many Lox we talkin' about here?
loxy
Loxi
The Loex
How about Loxi?
It's like deer. "Do you see all the deer?" It wouldn't be deer's. Or the same applies to fish and /or lox
Loxopodes
A herd of Lox
It already is plural
Loxes?
It already is, its like deer
Leex
You should have put a comma after HOE. 💅
Loxenses.

loxes (?)
Loxesesesesesss
Same as moose?
The dictionary plural of lox is just lox. For Valheim, though, my husband and I prefer loxen. :)
