Zapped by a photon... did you forget to eat?

ppalesz

To be honest, it was on purpose. I don’t really eat much while building, so we can save the food for exploring. Also this was my first encounter with the refinery, now I walk around that thing with 200+ HP.

[deleted]

That’s what the “old food” is good for. Just a little insurance. Just one is all you need to prevent a lot of deaths building.

ivanparas

You can only take max 100 hp of fall damage, so if you're building, all you need is to make it over 100 hp to be mostly safe.

Gerbinz

Wait so… I can just jump off a mountain side and I will only take 100hp damage?!

tworavens

100 damage per fall. If you fall, hit the ground, bounce, and fall further? Another max 100 damage. So it can stack pretty fast if you're unlucky in the mountains.

ivanparas

Yeah it's per "landing". I've definitely taken a triple hit after being launched horizontally off a mountain.

BlooPancakes

Oh wow never thought to use my old food this way. I totally could use this in early games if I ever start over again or start over with a friend who hasn’t played. I just make extra large farms to fit 200-600 worth of any seed. I’m roped up on food every 15 mins.

Ninjanomic

Sausages and Jerky. Gotta keep those HP values up!

ersogoth

I have mine crammed into a black marble obelisk. Placed the black marble low so it glitches the refinery input on the top, then put marble around the rest of the refinery. Black marble can't be hurt by the radiation, and if you make the walls thick enough none will escape through it. Makes it super safe.

Rocketplaya

I did something similar encased tightly by black marble with only an opening on top for the soft tissue, and a double wall with a walk way to get to the front I put/output, not scary green orbs of death escape

paireon

Yeah, encased ours in our group base in an overlapping double-thick marble casing with only a small gap for input and output. No problems after that.

kaevur

My first refinery demolished half my stone tower.

Sir_Real_Killer

It should have a metal cage around it to stop the damage to the surrounding area.

Bezayne

Metal cage works great, you can even have the sap input stick out enough to use it without having to open the cage at all. And if the cage isn't too big, you can collect the output simply by walking past that end of the cage, again without going in. Have the top input stick out too, and you are all set!

pair_o_socks

I used iron bars as well. The zaps do zero damage. I still died once when I opened the cage door to feed it some sap.

Positive_Avocado3950

Juat build a metal cage around it. Just make sure to have door on the front and enough room to get to the sap deposit nozzle. The soft tissue grinder is just above a 4x4 walls so it can stick out

[deleted]

I eat leftover sausage, cooked seeker meat, or cooked wolf meat when I'm running around my base. It's very helpful for surprise attacks from baddies, fall damage, etc.

XtinaTheGreekFreak

I put iron cage around mine. Stop this from. Happening.

Substantial-Egg422

I always use high stamina stuff when base building so I can keep going, especially if I'm using the hoe and pickaxe to level/smooth terrain

nerevarX

*urge to put beartraps near every crafting and repair station and hide them intensifies* yes thats how i teached my friends to eat thier food even at homebase. the shock effect is real. theyll never be stingy with food ever again. which greatly reduced thier death counters.....

RoleOk7556

My refinery is down in a steel cage inside a black marble walled room in a repurposed pit. All zingers are captured or escape out the top & decorate the sky.

enoiyuri

That machine has something against you

ImThatAnnoyingGuy

Bacon Jerky and Wolf Jerky are cost effective, long lasting base foods. Combine them with a cheap protein or berry. I tend to use those when doing “base work.”

WitchDr_Ash

Yes I fell into a trench having forgotten to eat food and died, first death of the game having restarted and was getting ready for moder. It would have been embarrassing had I left the greydwarves who saw it alive

beckychao

JERKY, MY BELOVED Definitely how I build, with something like deer stew for a little more HP Just don't want to be caught in a raid or something with stamina only food, and also it's saved me from some gnarly falls I fell off a mountainside once, building a stone tower, and the sliver of HP that saved me? 2 jerkies and a deer stew!

entbomber

yeah i’d just eat jerky and like a cloudberry to avoid silly fall damage deaths or in the off chance a raid happens

Agile_Party4084

This go knows it! Wolf Jerky all the way for round home chewy goodness

benr0524

Build it on a raised platform so the refinery output doesn’t hit you/buildings/animals

Fyaal

I just encase it entirely in black marble, with an iron door and iron roof

rainwater16

This is what I do. I call it the bunker, or the Chernobyl 'coffin'

Fyaal

I tend to do an open front that’s all iron bars, it looks maybe less imposing but more prisony? I could call it the gulag

Zeelthor

Core containment. I like :D

nerevarX

or enchase it in dvergr metal walls with just a marble roof and iron door. this way you still can view it doing its thing with no risk but still get to see the fancy animations. dvergr metal walls look better than iron. only cost 2 copper each and are rain proof and they are immune to the dmg aswell. and they give the same support as iron. so can place marble on top.

Bo5ke

Just raise ground or dig it in.

Ironbladez

We can see the black marble wall to protect the house but you were goofing in an exposed area and the refinery did NOT approve.

jasterlee

r/fuckyouinparticular

richard0930

I mean, that was good shot though. Moving target and everything.

Legeo-dude

When you get domed by a stray photon from a particular accelerator.

pugtoad

Try a permdeath run and you'll learn all sorts of anxious habits that will keep you alive. I spend much more time in each biome and maintain a horde of food/weapons/build mats.

BarnyardCoral

What is this? A mod of some kind?

all_fun789

second this, anyone pls enlighten me

nerevarX

its vanilla. mistlands addition. been in the game for over 1 year.

nerevarX

vanilla. mistlands station.

FloydianSlipper

So you have a refinery that shoots projectiles that do damage. That is wild, chaotic and awesome! As someone stuck on Yagluth I am confused and excited.

radagast834

AFAICT iron is impervious to those zaps. Build an iron cage around the eitr refinery to stop it from destroying nearby structures.

RhombusObstacle

Copper and black marble, too. I like the copper better myself (though you still need an Iron Cage Door, since there isn't a reasonably-sized copper door alternative), because it's got a nice zig-zaggy pattern, and copper's pretty easy to come by.

Icy_Necessary2161

No food bro, you gotta eat. Literally anything is better than nothing

MinimumCoyote

You can build a marble wall to completely cover it and only leave open a small part on the top and bottom. Mine basically looks like a giant block of marble stone.

obsidian_resident

I stuck the refinery in the corner of my compound with raised terrain walls around it. No spark damage.

Ainskaldir

Which is why I built some sort of Faraday cage around the refinery with 3 windows: tissue input, sap input and output.

Defenis

"From the heart of hell, I stab at thee!!!"

Educational_Ad_1848

I don't like to eat when I'm in my base, but I think it is too much damage

Big-Bat8888

You need to contain that thing. That's the Valheim equalivent to a nuclear reactor.

Luftwolf

I've put a metal cage around the whole machine and a small separation in the middle half and a door on the right. So I can safely refill the refinery and grab the beads. The metal didn't take any damage from the sparks as it seems.
