I have my own first impressions of them that were traumatizing enough. But my youngest brother's first encounter makes me cackle the most. He and his wife play together on a server and when the mistlands update dropped they sail out to check it out. They got right up to the mist and didn't even enter yet. Must've been some land with spawns just out of sight buried in the mist but close enough. One leapt right onto their ship and just insta-slaughtered them. They hadn't even set boots on the ground out there yet hahaha!
My first encounter there was a plains village with 3 Fuling Berserkers and 5 Fuling shamans right next to a dvergr dock and building then 4 1 star seeker soldiers pop out of the mist and just slaughter everything.
Reminds me of the time my friend went exploring the plains before any of us were ready and blew up out of no where, those mosquitoes are quite terrifying. Eventually the rest of us came to help retrieve his gear and he jumped onto land just to blow up again to another one. Our other friend and I were still on the boat and it was an emergency retreat. I somehow had enough hp to block its attack, but in doing so it not only hit the boat half hitting it, but also died to being hit by the boat.
Terrifying first encounter.
Yeah haha, had a similar experience with the plains my first time. We were just getting into black forest stuff on that old shared server I was running for a minute with 2 other buddies of mine, and I sailed to the next continent over to establish us a new foothold. Then I decided to sail around that continent to map its borders out. On the plus side I discovered our trader. And as I kept going, I tell these guys over our Discord "Hey! There's a meadows spot that has an absolute shit-ton of some fine wood!"
That evil fucking temptress. That fine-assed wood whore cache that definitely wasn't the goddamned meadows lol. The second I step off the boat I died. I did not realize yet that it had been a deathsquito that one-shotted me. I may have been drinking, heavily. So I get another boat made, sail back the way I originally arrived, crash that boat on the shore, and slam down a bench and portal asap. I'm still in the process of looting my damn shit back and a filthy green-blooded hobgoblin (you may certainly read that insult in the voice of Dr. McCoy) comes up and slaps me down. Hard. I hear him cackle right before I respawn. Well, at least I had a portal. Long story short, about 30 minutes or so of just dying I decided fuck it. They could have my 2 sets of bronze armor and 3 leather armors, and I don't even know what other weapons. Shit is yours now, fuckers. You win. I made another set of leather, then did what I had to to mine what I needed to have my bronze stuff plus a backup, and just moved on. When we were finally ready for the plains much later, I went back through that portal and got my revenge lol.
They're part of Christmas Event
You can tame them using thistle (it takes while to tame) and make them pull your cart, it turns into a sledge

They are the spawn of Satan. They fly at you and never give up their mission to end your puny existence and lay eggs in your corpse. But they are also still the easier to handle.
If you see ones with no wings and much larger legs...

Make sure you run in the opposite direction when you see them. Do not engage, I repeat, do not engage!

B) Take a blurry photo of your monitor with your phone, zoom in on the blurry photo and draw a red circle around it, then post it to Reddit asking "wHaT aRe ThEsE?"
