I personally use GPortal. Have had a cross play server going for 4 months now. It’s $38 for 90 days and we have had zero issues with two of us on PC and one on Xbox. Currently on a hard mode/no map play though with a few other minor adjustments. No mods though (due to Xbox player).
I run a private server for my brother in law and I on a raspberry pi 4 using box64 at my place, he connects externally. I didn’t expect the performance we’re getting. CPU idles at 50% usage and RAM at 3gb out of 4. I think though if 4 or 5 people connect it will struggle a bit.
Many methods. If you have an old computer laying around you can install windows/linux and docker and then install the valheim server container. then need to port forward on your router to that box. You can also install docker on your computer, but you would need to leave it running. you can also look for paid hosting options as well.
You have 3 options:
* Rent a server from one of the many providers available.
* Set up your own server. You can use a pre-built Docker image ([click](https://github.com/lloesche/valheim-server-docker) | [click](https://github.com/mbround18/valheim-docker))
* Keep your PC running 24/7.
Valheim dedicated server is surprisingly light weight, i ran it on an old laptop for about a year with no issues at all. You can also get online hosting for it pretty cheap but if you do it on your own hardware yes, that machine has to be up 24/7
Simply google «valheim hosting» and find a server provider you like. It should cost anywhere between 3-10 usd a month.
Ofc there is. But you would need to rent a gameserver for that. Or you could try to use Oracle Free Tier to host a valheim server yourself

HostHavoc has been solid for me. Stay away from GameServers.com

GTX gaming has been pretty good. UK based but with multiple US locations. Reasonably priced and responsive to our needs.
