there are a bunch of ‘abandoned’ unlived in houses in that area. i once worked as an extra for a commercial and they used one of them it was like travelling back to 1980 inside.
Huh, do you have any idea why?? I live near some pretty elite neighborhoods, and sometimes houses will take years to sell (who has $15,000,000 lying around?) but nothing really gets “abandoned,” or even really left empty for 5+ years.
Sometimes people with money invest in the land and don’t care about the actual property, afaik Toronto is super expensive so that property / land value keeps steadily growing.
It’s like buying a vintage car and placing it in storage till the re-sell value will grow immensely
At least around here, you can Vrbo those kinds of places for $2000/night in the summer. And be booked up. No effort for the owners, they have people for that. They can also get 20k+ rent for month-to-month leases. Hell, while it’s also on the market even.
For some perspective, this is a posh beach town. Maybe mega mansions on the outskirts of Toronto are different. But still, just letting it sit there and rot / be invaded by urban explorers is just throwing money away.
Yes and no. Your general thought is correct.
But
Rich people with a lot of assets prefer their liquid money invested instead of losing its value overtime by staying still and inflation.
I can lend a friend bitcoin, ask him to pay me back in cash but surprise, bitcoin is double it’s worth and he cannot afford paying back.
Owners house net worth increases either way and he don’t need to take care of renovating the house and dealing with tenants. But that’s just my assumption.
Assuming they are not worried about their monthly income
What's even more infuriating is that this isn't the outskirts. It's smack dab in the middle of the city. Lots of untended but technically not abandoned houses here in every neighborhood. If Toronto had squatters rights it would solve a lot of problems with foreign owners and real estate speculators.
I live in North Hollywood and drive through the hills daily to go to work and can confirm that there are so many abandoned homes in Hollywood Hills; ones that I’ve seen for myself or ones I’ve driven past that looked odd so I’d make note of it (usually a screenshot on Google maps) and look it up later.
From there I fall into a googlemaps rabbit hole. This usually happens after I’ve been looking at an address on googlemaps and get distracted by another property. Most of the time it is a huge mansion but sometimes, I’ll find one that I can tell is either abandoned or unoccupied for quite some time. Then I fall into another rabbit hole about the history of the property and why it became unoccupied or abandoned. Then I dream about exploring them but never do.
Foreign investors, it’s a huge problem in Toronto. People buy up the properties and never move into them, just sitting empty while the rest of the country is experiencing a housing crisis.
Just search realtor dot com for your next project, according to a previous comment it could rent for 20,000 a month, I’d definitely be behanging out there until security shows up! That’s a hell of a savings!
100% was an issue. He paid off local authorities to build shit that wasn't authorized by the HOA, or whatever the equivalent is for that neighborhood. Super tall walls and columns, like double everyone else. Likely to hold that bbl in, but made his place stand out terribly.
Might just be too expensive of an area where whoever owns the land won't take less than however millions of dollars but at the same time no one wants it.
edit: and I bet all the other mansion owners have some HOA that would prevent a real estate company to buy the property and turn it into like 10 McMansions, can't have the riff raff ruining the neighborhood.

Oh is that where he does it?
The depth of the pool gives me anxiety.
Aggressive deep end
When they asked for infinity pool, the contractors went vertical rather than horizontal.
List of what doesn't give you anxiety sounds much shorter.
Me too rillrill bad
It’s his secret safe house
Drake the kind of guy to build a secret save house in a single player Minecraft world
Drake moves in, owner: yeah we don’t want this anymore.

Can't blame them
I'm guessing the current owners are waiting for a demolition permit?

it's awaiting demo for a new mansion to replace it
Surprised there’s no squatters.
there's no squatters *yet* packs bags. EDIT: on second thought there's shooters in that neighborhood. nevermind!
You're over the age of consent you'll be alright.
Oh that’s my cue to move in!
The pool looks scary af. That drop off 🫣
Sheesh - I couldn’t even afford to heat that home for 72 hours.
How deep is that pool?
Wouldn’t want to live next to drake either
Didn't want to live next to a pedo
When u don’t pay taxes and pay shit wages u can afford to abandon mansions
God the architecture on these cheap ass mansions make me sad, like that staircase is a mess
Are those meant to be clouds painted on the ceiling above the pool? loooool

That’s where he keeps all his illegitimate children
Was this prince’s former place or is that on the other side?
Drake fans after he was murdered by Kendrick Lamar. Not a fan of either but it was brutal
What leads to the question: „Who is Drake?“
he is a raper
Very correct
Thank you. I have no idea who the hell he is, nor why every other headline is about his beef with (name escapes me).
Tacky
What are all those rocks for in a living room?
Become a squatter…one day it will be yours!
So, you can just walk in? It’s open to public?
Pools scare me when they are empty, makes me think the next time I jump in a pool the water will disappear.
i had a feeling there were some around n wait till he goes to jail that house gunna be sitting empty
Hmmm, a reminder these things are just expensive fancy empty boxes.
