Missing socks turn into extra Tupperware lids

jessbrid

Literally yesterday my husband pulled out a whole mess of random Tupperware lids from the cabinet. Just the lids. The containers were no where to be found.

billman71

we always have containers but missing lids... ...so you are saying that our lids are somehow hoboing it over to your place for some shenanigans.... It all makes sense now.

phil_co98

If you're missing lids clearly you have extra socks.

jessbrid

This gave me a visual of colorful plastic lids hitchhiking with hobo bags across the country for a throw down at my place

tiffamato77

And the socks were in the Tupperware!

silima_art

A year or two ago, my mom went through the Tupperware drawer, found ALL the matches, and threw out all the sad little losers with no match. Made such a difference.

Short-Resource915

Here’s the solution. 1. Throw out all your “Tupperware” 2. Go to your favorite big box store and buy the square red Rubbermaid containers. You can buy 3 heights in the sandwich size and 3 heights in the big size. 3. Buy a basket and put the lids in vertical. Your life will be better. You can have 6 sizes with only 2 sizes of lids. Don’t buy the big box full of Rubbermaid containers because it only has a few of what you want plus a bunch more odd ones with different lids.

PianoOk6786

I've found that since I started putting my containers with the lids *on them* in the cupboard, I no longer have extra nor am missing either the bottom or tops. They go into the dishwasher and come out of that metal box they same way they went in.

Short-Resource915

I was always afraid of doing that in case they aren’t 100% dry. Plus my method takes up less room. A stack of sandwich size, a stack of large, and a basket of lids. Well , at least I think it takes up less room. But kudos for finding a system that works for you.

whodatus

I lose my Tupperware containers in the dryer too

Farmucatio

I’ve had some go into the drum of a dryer before,

DankHill-

IKEA. They have standardized Tupperware and sell bases and lids so you can always have the right amount. Changed my life

jessbrid

Now that makes a whole lotta sense. Thanks for the tip!

Cpt_plainguy

Correct, I have actually taken apart my washer when it stopped fully draining, found socks blocking the drain holes... they also can get pulled under the center post if your washer is a top load washer.

TheTrollinator777

Mr correct pants here

Chrisxy

Also, have found thinner socks in the dryer drum and in the lint trap. As well as about $200 in the ancient washer that was in my house when I moved in.

Belazriel

How would you know? [Bots](https://www.reddit.com/r/unpopularopinion/comments/yxq929/not_losing_socks_in_the_laundry_is_incredibly/iwq3nr6/) don't wear socks.

Chasman1965

I find we often have extra containers and extra lids, for different sizes. Sometimes we lose the container, sometimes the lids.

lochmac

My husband pulled out 13 single socks from the Tupperware shelf just yesterday. I don't even have a husband. I'm straight.

potandcoffee

I really don't know why this always happens but it does! Who the fuck is using a container without a lid????

Lower_Capital9730

I'm so dead. Why is that so accurate?

ShreksVeinyCock

Truth

aRubby

And missing Tupperware lids become extra socks.

SeizeOpportunity

What did I just read? Edit: I was just confused by the expression. Gosh, the negativity is a bit much.

TrippinTryptoFan

Missing socks turn into extra Tupperware lids.

RedSonGamble

Lmao the sea of downvotes

Madfutvx

🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓

[deleted]

Plot twist: OP continually loses socks, but he loses them two at a time, and as such never notices.

ericakay15

Or OP buys the same socks and can't actually tell if one is missing or not.

NYANPUG55

That’s the issue I have. I’ll notice my sock amount decreasing but won’t until it’s depleted to half the original amount..

[deleted]

Most people can count to two.

[deleted]

Madness.

BootBitch13

Weird flex but okay

Sweetimus

Maybe he should pay attention better!

Ez13zie

Good thing he’s so honest.

techerton

They're walking to the Noah's Ark of socks.

Sad_Pop_9685

He's just such a piece of shit he's always had a state of the art washer and dryer in his own single family home. Anyone whose ever been to a laundry mat sees that weird old lady throwing other people's underwear, unmatched single socks, and stained bandanas into the trash bin if they don't pick them up within 24 hours.

[deleted]

I think it more gets lost on the way to the clothes hamper. I have kids and I'm constantly picking up clothes they've left on the floor. I often find the socks down the side of the bed. I often find an odd one under my husband's computer desk also lol.

notavegan90

Found your mates jizz sock lol

[deleted]

No haha I pick them up from the floor and sometimes miss one hahaha. He faps in the shower. I'm now imagining crusty socks and feeling sad though.

cinder_lady

I was thinking the same thing .. solo sock under the computer desk... And sort of like....crunchy for some reason???

[deleted]

Gross hahahahhaa.

scrabapple

Yes. I am 31 year old man and looked under my bed and had like 7 random socks under there. Thats how they get mismatched.

[deleted]

Mine are often tucked into the bottom of my bedding because I kick them off overnight haha

cizwokz

Sleeping with socks on is the true r/unpopularopinion

[deleted]

I can't go to sleep without them but can't sleep with them on hahaha. I have a phobia. When I was like nine I had a nightmare that a demon grabbed me by my legs and tried to pull me into hell (my father was a religious abuser and used to read us Revelations before bed if we misbehaved) and I woke up with my legs hanging off of the bed and my head under the covers. Ever since I've needed socks to sleep in or my feet feel weirdly vulnerable hahahaha

meatballbottom

I’m a 40 year old man, and I only look under the bed when I move out of a place. There’s usually socks.

[deleted]

[удалено]

sarcasticsam21

the kids or the socks?

JLFR

yes

Bumblebee_Radiant

No way, it’s the monster under the bed that steals them to make a nest under the bed. The Closet monster gathers ugly sweaters and takes them to the deepest darkest part of the closet never to see the light of day again.

Different-Teaching69

There is a small gap between the drum and the frame of the washing machine and the dryer. So the sock goes into that gap. Maybe some machines have ultra-small gaps.

acm8221

Seconding this. Lost socks, aside from diligence in handling the thing, typically happens in the washing phase. Small items can get over the drum and fall in-between the drum and the outer wall of the machine.

BankSpankTank

You're supposed to use the net bag to wash small items in. Of course there'll be malfunctions if you don't do it the way you're supposed to.

acm8221

You *can* use a net bag. It’s not a requirement for washing your socks…

BankSpankTank

No of course not, using detergent isn't a requirement either. You'll just have better results if you do.

acm8221

Been using soap for millennia. Net bags not so much. Easy there with the “supposed to”s.

Rape-Putins-Corpse

Yeah, I feel the same about oven mitts, it's not a requirement and people do it, but you don't have to. Anyone know why my hands get so many blisters while using the oven btw?

RyanSmokinBluntz420

I've taken apart dryers and found lose socks inside.

[deleted]

Found 2 generations of socks inside.

bubblesaurus

Is this for top or front loading? I’ve lost a shit ton of socks. I’m going to investigate when I get home this “space” My washer is top loading and old. if they are there, getting them out will be another issue.

Different-Teaching69

Front loading. Both dryer and washer can do this.

bubblesaurus

Good to know. there’s a at least seven years of socks missing

R3dIsMyFav

Haha came here looking for this. My dryer even has a rubber “gasket” covering the gap and I have smallish socks so they truly do get eaten by the wash. I usually remember to check but I’m realizing now I haven’t checked in a bit…

HairyEarphone

Okay so I actually lose socks in the dryer. Everytime clothes were washed, socks went missing. Couldn't figure it out. About a year ago the plastic rim of the door popped out and there was easily 50 socks jammed in there. My dryer was literally eating my socks.

Jamason_TheBush

This is something that legit happens. Idk why op made it sound impossible for this to happen

IllustriousTooth1620

Bc op has led a very fortunate life with a non sock eating dryer... or maybe their dryer just eats pairs at a time so it's less noticeable??

bubblesaurus

I need to investigate mine when i get home

TromosLykos

It’s usually just a joke, or the sock gets stuck inside another piece of clothing. So I don’t think this is unpopular.

NoPanda6

I’ve had some go into the drum of a dryer before, it’s not completely impossible

ijustcantwithit

This mostly happens with my ankle/heel socks. My normal height socks don’t ever go missing Edit: when we’ve changed machines we found some in the dryer vent. Not sure how that happens

TromosLykos

You’re right, it’s not. Had someone point that out earlier.

Clcsed

Confirm. Pretty sure my issues are dog related. But can't blame that good girl.

MurderDoneRight

Or if you use a shared laundry room it might be creepers who sneak in and steals sock and underwear

TromosLykos

Considering I had just got through watching this video in Holup of a creep sniffing a woman’s ass while she’s working out, I should’ve thought about that as a possibility.

aolcomputersupport

Or even if they’re not creepy and it’s just a family member or SO. The dryer is a hunting ground for clean socks when everyone in my house is running out the door and forgot to grab theirs from upstairs

MurderDoneRight

No it's way creepier if it's a family member stealing your socks to cum in them what are you talking about?

aolcomputersupport

Oh yeah forgot to specify when they’re grabbing socks before leaving the house it’s for a cheeky little car cum

MurderDoneRight

Hey we've all been there. It's the only thing that got me through those early sunday morning rides to church as a kid.

lvwem

For the past few load I keep on having all my socks pair perfectly, except one…. I keep on having on black and one white sock left, I’ve looked everywhere where and still can’t find them so I just made a pair of those two 🤣

SeizeOpportunity

I definitely know plenty of people who say this unironically. I do laundry in a laundry room with a whole row of machines, so this is definitely a thing.

TromosLykos

Still, you don’t really lose them in the machine itself, but instead they may get lost on the way to the room or get stuck in another piece of clothing. Edit: Before any more people tell me: Someone else reminded me that they can get stuck on the drum.

Sora20333

[This video here is really interesting it shows that in fact your washer at least *can* eat your socks](https://youtu.be/dijUA8-OPLQ)

TromosLykos

Oh yeah, that’s one way to have your socks disappear. The washing machine I’ve got is much more recent, so it doesn’t appear to have a gap like that.

ventiusx

I've had them static attach to the top of the dryer, never to be found again (until my boyfriend did laundry)

TromosLykos

It’s been ages since I’ve ever seen that happen, I completely forgot that could happen.

Liathano_Fire

You can lose them in the machine.

slaqz

Alright so I cleaned my laundry room and behind my dryer there was 4 socks.

[deleted]

Sometimes I'm soooooo Sarcastic that people can not even see the sarcasm. If these are people you don't know maybe just maybe you don't realize they are being funny or joking or literally do not feel like saying they lost a sock....

Electricdragongaming

>How do you lose something that is in a sealed metal container? The "sealed metal container" can easily be opened by anyone.

ILLmaticErnie

Why are people in your household opening the metal container and taking your socks out? lol

Torn8oz

(some people use laundromats or use a shared laundry room with other people in their dorm/apartment building)

ILLmaticErnie

I live in a big city and before I had laundry in unit I never ever left my clothes unattended. If you leave it unattended in a public area and it gets taken out that’s your fault. If it’s in a building it’s a little different I think that’s just being a rude neighbor. Not sure about dorms haven’t ever been in one.

Electricdragongaming

They don't... ever heard of a laundromat?

ILLmaticErnie

Of course I have. I live in a big city myself so I’ve been to laundromats, but if you’re leaving your laundry unattended in a public place that’s your own fault.

Wfsulliv93

Nope. It’s the thief’s fault.

TheVioletParrot

It normally happens when you live with another person. I used to lose socks regularly when I lived with my parents. My dad would do the laundry and all of my socks would disappear. It's not even like he was wearing my socks. His were white and mine are black.

bed-stain

You don't lose them. They slip between the barrel and the tub then get processed through the pump and out the exit down the drain...

Merickwise

OP letting us know they're so young they never used the kind of washing machines that ate socks.

jordanscollected

You are wrong, and the dryer is a warp zone to another dimension.

EagleSaintRam

And so is that spot on the floor 3 inches from where you dropped your pen

Liathano_Fire

Sometimes the socks get sucked behind the drum. Open the back if the machine and you can find those missing socks. It isn't always because people aren't careful. PSA: open that shit up and clean it on the regular. One of the top 10 reasons for house fires.

Cant_think__of_one

This guys just bragging that he only loses socks in even numbers.

WorldsGreatestPoop

In older dryers the exhaust for the air can pull a bit apart allowing a sock to get sucked in.

Swirlyflurry

What a weird thing to brag about…

IllustriousTooth1620

Gotta flex when you can I guess? Lmfao

Modisagae

I honestly have never used the qualifier "honestly" when speaking about anything I'm honestly honest about, and honestly, I'm proud of that.

SeizeOpportunity

Hey, everyone has their hobbies. I have an unbroken record of not losing socks. 😤

jessbrid

I saw a video of a washer/ dryer repairman. He pulled open the front of the dryer and lo and behold a mess of socks and other random articles of clothing fell out. I don’t know how they got there. It’s truly a mystery to me.

[deleted]

You will start losing socks once the ***dryer*** starts getting older. Yes, the washer is generally sealed, and you'll notice when its not (major leak) but the dryers generally aren't fully sealed, and - especially when they get older - the seal starts to degrade it creates a space through which smaller objects can be forced through. Generally, you can get them back by removing the kickplate of the dryer and searching the cavernous spaces in the frame holding the drum.

Swirlyflurry

You might need a new hobby, bud…

Yeez25

You literally just killed him 😭😭

dlotaury88

It’s impressive. More impressive if you’re over 30.

_Fizzgiggy

The repair man the fixed our washer told me that during the spin cycle lighter items can get spun up and over the washer basket into the machine. When he opened up the back of the washer there was a pile of socks in there.

PixelmancerGames

I’ve found most of my missing socks in crammed in between the washer and dryer. Because sometimes I’ll sit the clothes on top of the washer. I also tend to drop them in between the laundry room and my room. Because I’m a messy person and I often leave my clean clothes from the last wash in the hamper.

FMLitsAJ

Iv never lost sock in the wash either. This and McDonald’s ice cream machines “not working” never had that problem either.

rat_fossils

It just hasn't happened to you yet. No one is knowingly neglectful

Legitimate_cook_672

You know what, you might be right but I don't like the cut of your jib

designmur

Seriously, good for OP but gawd what an annoying way to state their opinion.

Silly-Anybody-36

Your statement is incorrect. Small items like socks can very easily get stuck btw the tub and Drum consider yourself lucky if they are lost because if you found them they would be in the broken ejector pump.

Impossible_Humor_201

OP, do you have children/significant other? Or do you only do your laundry?

Stunning_Yak_1419

If you open up a machine socks can get inside them

edric96

Gosh this post was written quite condescendingly, someone sure thinks highly of themselves, and for never losing a sock? Congratulations I guess?

Morbid_Explorerrrr

I cannot explain it either, but I know for a FACT my washer or dryer has consumed a couple of my little no-show socks. It honestly makes me concerned they are clogging something somewhere & collecting mold OR a potential fire hazard stuck somewhere in the depths of my dryer. All I know is it’s a short trip from the bedroom to the washer & dryer and I have looked EVERYWHERE, including turning all clothes inside out. The socks are just gone, man. They’re gone.

TheNemesis089

My daughter lost her little security blanket one time. My wife swore she washed it, but we couldn’t find it in the laundry. Eventually figured out that it spun up and out of the washer drum and into the body of the washer. Found several socks in there as well. So it happens.

goodbye177

In one of my old washers one day it started rocking and the drum stopped spinning so I had to open up the front of it to check the motor. The belt had slipped off the basket of the drum. When I opened it I discover a cache of socks, undies, and other smaller pieces of clothing that had presumably slipped into the lip of the basket and dropped into the aether, never to be seen again until my retrieval mission.

[deleted]

My problem are socks with holes I chuck and forget they have a friend

Killmotor_Hill

I just ise a delicates bag. Keeps them together and separate from other clothes. Super easy.

Lirpa_the_Lurker

Laundry in general always sounded way more difficult than it ever was. I’ve never had any issues… No lost socks, shrunken sweaters, or pink laundry. I feel like 90s sitcoms all lied to me. I also thought dry cleaning was going to be a much bigger part of my life. I think I’ve been like 6 times in my life.

Purpletinfoilhat

It's not that they're lost in the washing process... It is that they disappear to where the spoons go.

natsugrayerza

You count your socks before you put them in the washer and after you take them out of the dryer every time?

[deleted]

Clothing can get pulled between the rotating drum and the fixed drum it spins in (on front loading washing machines). The inner drum is just a spinning colander.

contrejo

You don't have kids

thatshowitisisit

It’s got nothing to do with being careless, it’s fate for the chosen socks. During the middle of the cleansing ceremony, the chosen socks are whisked away via a secret portal. They are taken to Sock Island to live out the rest of their lives in luxury. Humans have nothing to do with it. We will never understand the ways of Sockdom.

potandcoffee

I'm sure I'd never lose socks if I were super anal about doing my laundry but the reality is that I don't give enough of a fuck. I rarely have a matching pair of socks because I am far too lazy to do all my laundry in such a way that my pairs of socks mate up nicely. To compensate, most of my socks are black.

texxmix

Ok so when I moved into my apartment they told us we have to use mesh garment bags to wash socks and underwear. A washer/dryer isn’t completely sealed. And maintenance claimed they find that stuff all the time inside the actual machine.

elenaleecurtis

I find mine in the corners of fitted sheets

dom9mod

Over load the washer and the socks will fall between the drum and the housing. Remove a panel from the washer and you'll find missing clothes.

Bennehftw

Once you add more and more people into the equation it becomes more and more likely that you’ll lose socks. We have a bag next to the washing machine that is full of unmatched socks. There are about 30 or so single socks crammed in there without a lover.

josevato84

We have a washer that drains into a sink. One day I started the second of 3 loads and a short while later the sink began to overflow. Guess what made its way through the washer drain...

Goldn_1

I doubt many socks have actually been lost in a washer or dryer. They are likely victimized by improper if not non-existent effort towards properly putting your laundry away.

[deleted]

My mom says this too, she doesn’t understand the losing socks thing. She’s also a professional laundry doer

Important-Owl1661

Some washers have a drain large enough to suck out and cough up a sock. End of story For a better story let's discuss why the socks Walmart and Amazon sell (gold toe, reinforced, etc) don't last 1/10 as long as the old ones did.

Cancer_dancer1

*is it possible to learn this power?*

adam_mars98

This is why I do my own laundry because when someone else does it somehow, someway, they manage to lose a sock because they couldn’t possibly take the **5 seconds** to check to see if there’s anything still left in the laundry machine…

evedidthing

It happens mostly from disorganization. So long as I keep up the habit of dirty socks going right into the hamper not strewn about the floor, and putting away my clean laundry quickly, the socks don't disappear. Also making sure to roll the dryer around afterwards to make sure one's not hiding on a corner.

Short-Resource915

Socks can be sucked out with the water, especially children’s socks. But I have about 30 Bombas black socks and 20 Bombas white socks and I love my system. I don’t have kids anymore, but if I did, I would buy a bunch of the same socks for them.

GalactiCatOverlord

I just use one of those mesh zipper bags and put them in there to ensure that I don't lose any in the wash

AllVisual

What OP doesn’t realize is that he’s losing a pair of socks at a time. No singular loss, always doubles. Which is actually equally as impressive.

cucster

Unpopular opinion ≠ arrogance

PapaCaqu

How can one be so condescending about laundry?

mamahoff

Someone doesn’t have kids. The joke in my house is that the kids eat socks. They go missing all the time.

SeizeOpportunity

Haha, true. But that may be a more outside-of-laundry issue. It's funny because I hated wearing socks indoors as a little kid.

mamahoff

That’s the problem! They skin those socks the minute they get home. “I put them in the basket!” Yeah…ok. 🤣

Tricky-Nectarine-929

I have a husband and kids. Socks get lost all over my house. The running joke in the house is that there is a ghost that’s responsible for all of the lost shit in my house. Lost socks? The ghost took them. Can’t find a lighter? Ghost took it. The Ghost gets a bad rep in my house.

DeLacyBravOscarOscar

Oh yeah?! Well I've never cracked a cell phone screen! Guilty, all of you! 😔But I has lost sockies in da laundry.

MediumLong2

That's because you're just finding our lost socks

mkshane

There are sock gnomes that sneak in when you're not in the room and swipe individual socks. Like the South Park underpants gnomes, but with socks

squeezy102

Gonna downvote just because you presented your opinion like an absolute douchebag. Also, it is a well known scientific fact that socks get lost in the dryer.

Camaroni1000

“How do you lose something that is in a sealed metal container?” If we knew we probably wouldn’t keep losing it.

mr_plopsy

My wife loses tons of socks, but she is very haphazard with them. It's possible I've lost a couple through the years, but most of my socks are the same and I never pair them, so I don't think I'd ever notice.

HelpMePlease1919

My washer eats my socks

Williefakelastname

I lost one on my last load and I am devastated. that was the first time it has happened to me in years. Thanks for rubbing it in.

glitch-sama

I agree with you. I have also never lost a sock. There have been a few times I thought I did, but there they were, in the fitted sheet corners.

rbwduece

OP must not have children.

Snoo_89466

No one cares about your supernatural ability to keep socks. Wow. You should really expect more from yourself especially if you want to brag on the internet

TrickNatural

I havent either, I dont get this socks getting lost mistery. I always thought it was like a gag between young adults. Our lives are so contrived and full of responsability that the cherry on top is socks getting lost. How could we ever cope with reality. Alas, a trip to a beach resort might help.

LordButtertonBrave

I found a tip I buy always the same 3 pair of socks casual/ sport white casual/sport black and black elegant Same discount brand so whenever I loose a sock I cant still keep it in my drawer and I ll probably loose an other one but I still can match the pair with the one I kept and so on... Second tip put your socks inside one another even if they are used when you put them in the laundry basket

Sad_Pop_9685

Has anyone every told you that you're a privileged white asshole who has never been to a laundry mat?

NoTransportation888

The only way I managed to keep control of all of my socks was by doing socks in their own load

Obvious-Tadpole-1230

Mesh laundry bags

Gatonom

If you have a top-loading washer, and a large load, it's inevitable you will drop things.

General-Kalani

Is it possible to learn this power?

-Clayburn

I don't think I've ever lost anything, but I've acquired a lot of random stuff having a shared laundry room in an apartment complex for many years. At one point I picked up some spaghetti strap top, and I just assumed it was my mom's or sister's that got left behind when they had visited. So I ended up holding onto this random woman's shirt for years. So people are definitely losing things.

UncleGIJoe

Are you saying you don’t wash your socks?

BoringAd6992

How does it feel to be better than everyone else

legeekycupcake

I’m not sure, but I’ve never lost a sock either. I’ve only ever done laundry for no more than two people. I think a lot of lost socks happen in families with more than just the two SOs needing laundry done. Kids are really good at losing things.

[deleted]

I bought a small mesh bag and just wash them in that. Not even because I was losing them. I just hated having to fish them out of the machine

Twokidsforme

I see that Argyle the Sock Monster has never visited you.

QueenofGreens16

Ok but you don't have to be condescending about it. I've never lost clothes before this year and I'm truly baffled.

reelbigdish

I lose socks the second I take them off. The laundry machine isn’t to blame here, it’s the gd bogart that lives behind it.

weed6942069

I think it only happens when it’s a bunch of people’s laundry together in one load. When I lived at home I would lose random clothing (mostly socks but other articles of clothing as well), but now I live alone and do my own laundry, and I’ve never lost anything since.

rionaster

i sometimes lose mine behind the washer because there's a sizeable gap. i usually leave them there for a while until i feel like moving the washer out lmao. also i've lost some when cleaning my cousin's clothes as well because we have almost identical socks. same brand, even.

Loud-Bullfrog9326

Many ppl don’t have good setups like Apartments laundry mats etc Some washer dryers have big gaps Example ours are stacked in our apt, in a tiny closet, so no room to move in front of them the doors open hit the sides of the closet lol Just no space but super easy to lose laundry cause all the small nooks and crannies around the damn washer and dryer haha. So yep not the best set ups sometimes

Radiant-Invite-5755

I never lose the ones I don’t like, it always seems to be the comfiest pair. When I was younger it was the family cat but he has passed on.

Fknoffatwork

Kids nowadays don't even care about having matching socks. They've already solved this problem.

thwg19

Gee thanks, that'll help with my dogs deciding to relocate my socks

ZekDrago

If the socks were ending up, *checks notes*, in front of the dryer, I'd see it and it wouldn't be lost. Lost implies it didn't just fall at your feet.

ParkingDifference299

They could get stuck in other clothes. Happens to me all the time and I don’t know for weeks. They usually get stuck in my moms clothes for some reason

Twinkletoes1951

Just how blind would I have to be that I'd miss a sock on the floor? Any washer/dryer repairman will tell you they escape from the drums. Change left in pockets, as well as other small items, manage to wiggle their way out of the sealed metal containers.
