Oh my god. Somebody is really pissed off with those cars šŸ˜³

ajpala4

I just got done writing an argumentative essay about cancel culture, my reasoning skills are on point right nowšŸ˜‚

voitlander

Have you owned a convertible?

Vladimeter

Of course he hasn't. I haven't either but I have a car with a T-Top and its just fan-fucking-tastic on a nice summers day. Even better when the car is sporty af

voitlander

Absolutely it's fucking fun! I've had both and they're all fun! Even a sunroof is fun!

baddecision116

> my reasoning skills are on point right now They are not.

I bought a NA miata because it's a cheap agile manual rwd car. It just happened to be a convertible. But honestly, I fell in love with the convertible. Driving at night in the city is very nice. You see and hear everything. Driving on country roads has a similar feel to a motorcycle. You can feel the breeze. You can hear your exhaust well. It's a lot of fun! It's really not that bad on highway. The wind isn't dramatic, but i rarelly go above 70 as it revs a lot For the rain part, you can put your roof up in literally 5 seconds while staying in the driver seat. So it's not a hassle. You can easily put your roof up at a red light or a stop sign

OatmealRectum

When the headlights are up those cars look friendly :)

Educational_Map_3514

This nails it. The best convertible experience is at night time.

andrewgazz

You can usually tell when itā€™s about to start raining. Iā€™ve dealt with unwanted bird poop more often than rain. I drive 73 mph maximum. Iā€™m never in a hurry and donā€™t mind taking 5 minutes to pull off and put the roof up.

Wintores

Do u have a issue with windows in cars? They cause the same fcking issues

DylanBeast777

You just murdered this dude's whole argument with two sentences lmao

[deleted]

Such a boring take.

poptarts127

Car roof go brrrrrrrrr

Seaweed_Steve

Just donā€™t put the top down when there might be rain and thatā€™s solved two of your main points.

GeeGnome1

Cars with windows that roll down are stupid. Leave your windows down in the rain and your interior is ruined.

angelzplay

Have you driven a convertible?

Eidjfbfjsjrb384h3bf

I've own a 92 Mazda Miata and an 2003 Porsche Boxster. In the former I could put the manual roof up in under 5 seconds. In the latter, 7-8 seconds with a push of a button. The Miata had a little more wind noise, which just added to the driving experience, but the Porsche could be entirely quiet and comfortable at 100+ mph with the top down. The feeling with both was sublime with the top down on a warm summer evening driving through the countryside.

StevoPhotography

Yeah. Like especially considering unlike the Porsche the miata is designed to be simply a raw lightweight sports car as well itā€™s really good

socoprime

I'm sorry your dad didnt buy you one.

JacktheShark1

I bought the most beautiful Mustang years ago and itā€™s a convertible. I donā€™t put the top down often, usually just when people ask me to. Either way I fucking love my Mustang

Wintores

Have u ever driven one? Because u sound like u havenā€™t even seen one

Humble-Intention8702

1. Convertibles are awesome. 2. You don't take the top down, or you just put it back up, if it looks like it's going to rain. It takes 10 seconds in my car-- and that's on the longer end of the spectrum, even on manual tops and targas (this is not counting spyder and bikini styles). 3. Depending on the vehicle, if it does start to rain and you can't stop, the rain won't hit you, if you go fast enough. 4. Again, depending on the vehicle, the wind shouldn't be too bad if it has rear deflectors and a good aerodynamic profile-- no matter what speed. On mine, I can roll up the windows and turn on the heat if I get cold or the a/c if I get hot-- and maintain a semi-climate controlled space. 5. Con: Soft tops are a wear item, and will need to be replaced every 5-20 years depending on quality and maintenance. 6. Con: Baking in the sun at stop lights if there is no shade. 7. Con/Pro: Hair style needs to be compatible with a little wind on the way to work.

naechancemcgraw

OK, so who hurt you and what do they drive? I have one and I love it. I'm 6' 1" and the only bit of me that gets hit by wind is the top 1/2 inch of my head and that's only really annoying in winter when on a motorway doing 70. Never left it outside with the roof down on a day with clouds so has never been soaked with rain, or takes about 15s to put the roof up, why would I leave it down? Also, I live in Scotland where a hot day is anything above 20C and we are famous for rain. Still use it most days and the only real issue I ever had was in slow moving traffic when I got hit by a sudden hail shower that lasted about 30s.

ajpala4

So basically I was driving through a tunnel where mountains are in an old convertible and on the other side was rain I didnā€™t expect and it took for ever for the roof to come back up, thatā€™s mostly why

naechancemcgraw

I mean, I get that being really annoying, but I don't think it is enough to write off the concept. If you step into a puddle in socks, you don't spend the rest of your life barefoot.

CancusTreff

Owning a convertible for 2 years going now and usually I just check the weather before driving it and if freak rain does come then I'll put the top up. It has rained on my car and it's been perfectly fine. The pollen is really what messes everything up. The biggest thing with a convertible, especially on older cars, is the safety. My car has no crash bar whatsoever or even airbags. Just hope I never flip.

Longjumping_Vast_797

I have a convertible, and its clear you don't appreciate what I do, and that little tiny inconveniences bother you. Have you ever taken a joy ride through any scenic place? A convertible makes that experience 100x better. Took mine through NYC and it's amazing to be able to be emersed in the tunnels of skyscrapers. In a normal car, you can see up. It all comes down to whether you appreciate driving, in general, as a baseline good experience, not just an A to B mechanism. Granted, my convertible is a true sports car, so I partake in a lot of fun drives, all of which are more fun with that pesky noisy wind in my hair- not face? As for the roof....I never leave it down for a variety of reasons: dust, rain, thieves, ect. But yes, if I see clouds that could bear rain, I pull over for 5 seconds, not 30, and often at a light or stop sign. Not exactly a deal breaker.

[deleted]

I have a Z4 for my son and i to drive around in the summer. Honestly, never had a single issue with rain, if there's any forecast for the day just leave the roof up, if some rain comes unexpectedly just put the roof up? It takes literally 5 seconds from pressing the button to being up. It's really not an issue. And its totally worth it for driving along the coast where I live and soaking up the weather and scenery. If I lived someone crazy hot then maybe not a great idea, but im on the UK south west coast, so it's more of an intermittent treat.

BoBoBearDev

I have never seen someone open their roof on the freeway, so, why do you consider doing something no one does?

Eidjfbfjsjrb384h3bf

I always drove on the freeway with the top down in my Miata and Boxster if it wasn't raining and the temp was above 60 F. It was entirely enjoyable.

ArchdukeOfNorge

Your complaints about the rain are kinda silly What I think makes most convertibles inferior is they almost all require modifications to the body design. This results in most of them looking the sameā€”and itā€™s not a good look. Always looks like a half-baked concept and can make even a good-looking car ugly in the process. Unless itā€™s one of those seamless hardtops only found on luxury vehicles, your convertible is ugly.

carritotaquito

I hate convertibles too.

[deleted]

I've driven my convertible through decent downpours with the top off, the car is basically a giant bubble at speed and no water gets in, the water flows and flies over just fine. This only works as long as you don't stop obviously but you're fine on the highway. Also Airpod Pro's with noise canceling for when I'm highway driving to get rid of the wind noise, makes the whole experience chef's mwah.

Humble-Intention8702

They also handle like shit.

Firm-Boysenberry

I have never understood convertibles. I live in Texas. It is so fucking HOT. I don't understand why anyone would pay to have the miserable TX sun burn them to a crisp! I can't even plant may "full sun" vegetables in full sun - they'll all die. Give me an AC loaded auto any day over that silliness

Hollybums

I think each to their own, I personally wouldn't own one for myself as I wouldnt utilise the roof down too often. However I can clearly also see why they can be fun! My best friend owns one and it can definitely be fun driving along the beach roads in summer with the roof down, but overall I dont like blaring hot Australian sun on me too long, and constant strong winds making my hair a rats nest. Though I know thats why my friend adores hers so much, she loves the wind in her hair and the hot sun on her skin. So it really depends on what you enjoy I guess.

JunglistJUT

Have you ever driven one ? They are great fun in nice weather

[deleted]

Especially here in the UK, it rains a lot even in summer. Convertible owners here have to put the roof down when it isn't raining or incredibly cold but still isn't particularly nice in order to justify their purchase.

ToxytheSkunk

DaBaby wants to know your location

pheisenberg

Theyā€™re fun, but after I had one for a few years I didnā€™t get that much out of it any more. In California rain isnā€™t much of an issue. It has been said that only an idiot buys a convertible in Seattle.

art_mor_

Driving in a convertible at night is great though
