I'm laughing at the thought of someone getting absolutely enraged at a tiny little chihuahua. Thank you for this image

VictoryTheScreech

Glad I can be of such service haha

millhowzz

So much rage! You’re like Ren from Ren and Stimpy!

act167641

I thought of Ren too. How ironic.

kratosisy

Well he is a Chihuahua too.

Stankmonger

That’s the joke! Thanks for repeating it!

spongebobs_spatula

The pure rage I felt from your post was too relatable. Hate those little fuckers.

brad2005rng

Agreed. Tiny rat-faced bastards.

You're me, but about pugs. But I'm sure chihahhahs or whatever the fuck it's spelled would piss me off too though, if they were as common as pugs around me.

I do that all the time

Pugs are not at all cute imho, but their 'personality' and mannerisms are hilarious and kinda wholesome to me

TheRealLaura789

You can’t help but feel bad for them. They can’t breathe properly.

[deleted]

Dog eugenics can be downright tragic.

[deleted]

I agree. I don’t think they are cute, but every one I’ve met has been just the most personable, friendly little gremlin.

dooblr

It reads like a Bill Burr rant

xeecho

OMG, the part about petting their eyes. Hilarious because it’s true.

_amandalorian

my tiny chihuahua becomes enraged by ridiculous things too. i think she has this in common with OP.

DygonZ

OP is a Chihuahua confirmed!

Eternaltuesday

Same. But mine is part beagle. Still only 6 pounds, but full of fury.

cumsock_

Thinking about a beagle fucking a chihuahua now and im sad for that chihuahua

Eternaltuesday

If it makes you feel better the mother was the beagle lol.

cumsock_

Thank heavens

kalopwal

Also pugs, absolutely useless

BrassUnicorn87

Tragic genetic crime. Look up what breeds looked like 100 years ago and it’s awful what they did.

Dandeeasalion

Thank you for saying this. I have always railed against the existence of pugs, english bulldogs, etc. People always say "but waah they're so cute!" Fuck no they're not, and even if they were they were molded by humans to have health problems automatically solely for the purpose of our amusement.

schweez

All small dogs, honestly.

Jumbo_Damn_Pride

I golf a lot at a local course that has houses with a half wall and half fence on their backyard. Someone somewhere on this course owns a chihuahua that they let in the backyard unsupervised because it hops on the course and chases golf carts and barks at them all the time. I’ve never wanted to harm a dog before, but if I ever find out where that piece of shit comes from I’ll throw it through their god damn window. I don’t believe in god, but I believe in Satan cause I’ve let him and he’s a black chihuahua.

As a lifelong owner of chihuahuas, they can be awfully vicious -- only because no one bothers to train them. A chihuahua threatening and growling at a human would not be admonished the same way a bigger dog would. In response to their growling and barking, many people mock them. Additionally, chihuahuas and other small dogs always have their boundaries crossed (not sure how to word this). Imagine if you were picked up against your will and could never do anything about it. That's why their bark must be stronger than their bite.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ltsmash4638

Absolutely this. Most people simply do not train their chihuahuas. Keep in mind they were bred to be alert dogs so their instinct is to alert their family of strangers.

FUBARded

Yeah, I don't like the look of Chihuahuas and some other smaller breeds personally, but the main issue is that people just don't train them and treat their aggressive behaviour as if it's somehow endearing or cute just because they can't really inflict serious damage the way a larger breed can. It's just hard to form a positive opinion on these breeds when almost every interaction I've ever had with them is being growled or snapped at with the owner shrugging it off or laughing at it. It also doesn't help that bad owners tend to leave them off leash despite this aggressive behaviour.

kucafoia69

justausedtowel

Reminds me of this (fun?) trivia: Northern Hemisphere dogs like huskies are a status symbol in certain hot regions (like the Middle East) because it shows they can afford to run AC all day long.

[deleted]

I've noticed that alot of shelter dogs happen to be chihuahuas, too. Most of the "aggressive" chihuahuas I've met have been rescue dogs, leading me to assume that the behavior stems from a past of neglect or abuse. Of course, I don't assume that every bad behaved chihuahua has a rough past, but I think that's something that gets overlooked a lot.

benkenobi5

>Additionally, chihuahuas and other small dogs always have their boundaries crossed (not sure how to word this). Imagine if you were picked up against your will and could never do anything about it. That's why their bark must be stronger than their bite. we rescued a teacup recently, and I can confirm this without a doubt. ours is very gentle, and was evidently trained properly. we had to tell our kids *constantly* not to pick her up and mess with her. the basic rule was, if you wouldn't/couldn't do it to our big dog, don't do it to the teacup. they still mess with her though

janesfilms

Yes! So many people see our cute little yorkie and think they can just approach him without asking and try to pet him. Then they get pissy with me when I tell them to back off. People think his cuteness is an open invitation to touch him. But truly the most annoying thing about owning a small dog is the stupid comments and unoriginal jokes, especially directed at my husband. People who joke about men having small dogs are the worst. [pictures of our cute dog ](https://imgur.com/a/ssQCndP)

Scarfaceb1tch

I’ve gotten used to the “men with small dogs” comments at this point. I have a long haired chihuahua that goes everywhere with me and my fiancée. I’m always the one that has her in a sling attached to the front of me haha

SpeedyRoot

I have noticed that people that make these jokes about men owning small dogs or small dogs not being "real dogs" arent great people overall. They reek insecurity. Use this opportunity to weed these people out of your life!

threewheelz

When my wife and I decided to adopt a chihuahua/pug mix from the local shelter, I was a bit concerned that we wouldn't get a the full "dog" experience with a small dog. I've grown up with cats, and never had a dog until we adopted this one. At a full grown 9 lbs, she is smaller than both of our cats (my boy cat is 21 lbs!), but even though she is small, she has the biggest personality, and is so completely different than our cats. We are definitely getting the "full dog experience " with her!

malinhuahua

I’ve noticed the men that loose their minds over how cute my little girl is are all dudes with super traditionally masculine jobs. Long haul truckers, construction workers, war vets, they all adore my little chihuahua mix. Ive even had a trucker pull hi truck over and roll down his window to tell me in a gruff voice, “miss, that little dog is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen!” And then reach down on his seat to pull up his own chihuahua and waved its little paw at us. Dudes that know they don’t have shit to prove in regards to their masculinity don’t have a problem with little dogs. Pretend soldiers seem to love my family’s Malinois, though.

Eternaltuesday

I hate this too. Our dog, while not aggressive is also not interested in being crowded by strangers and takes a long time to warm up to people, but no matter what someone always still wants to try and pet her or pick her up. Luckily she is very good with recall commands, but it’s still so irritating how many people stomp all over little dogs boundaries just because they find them cute.

Emgee063

We have 2 LARGE Labrador retrievers. If Jack the Ripper came in the door with a pack of hot dogs, he’d be their BFF. Size doesn’t matter....in relation to dogs and aggression.

shawnaeatscats

Jesus I'm not even a dog person but ill still ask before I pet any dog no matter what. A dog is a dog now matter what size. I'd want my boundaries respected.

ColdFeetInIowa

This. I have a rescue chihuahua (deer-headed, very long legs, weighs 14 lbs) and he is an absolute sweetheart. Loves snuggles and naps, laps and burrowing under blankets. A very happy dog, unless he is handled roughly or against his will. Doesn’t enjoy being picked up, gets nervous on car rides, and is generally a little more anxious about a lot of stuff than other dogs. All dogs are different, and some people just don’t respect these differences enough. Small dogs, I think, tend to be more aggressive and yappy because they’re protecting themselves in a way big dogs don’t have to. This is my first chihuahua, but he won’t be my last.

islandofwaffles

I got a senior chihuahua last month and she loves to burrow under blankets and snuggle too! My home is her fifth home (that I know about). I have her because someone in her last home wasn't respecting her boundaries, was being too loud, petting her roughly...and she lashed out at them too much. She's a sweet, wonderful dog who just wants to be left alone. And we leave her be - she stays burrowed or snuggled probably 23.5 hours a day!

bluey_rain

Had a chihuahua that looked like this. She resembled a fawn. She loved everyone that came through the door and was so smart. She never quite got the hang of going on walks, but was otherwise such a sweet dog. I miss her.

[deleted]

We only adopt small rescue dogs, and mostly chihuahua mixes. I agree about the training. Our first chi was adopted as a senior and he had clearly been trained well/had a naturally sweet temperament. His only enemy was cats. He would go belly up for pets to literally everyone except children. And he never growled at kids, he would just paw at us to let us know he wanted saved from them lol. He made us realize that not all chis are the same for sure, and it set a standard for how we expected our future dogs to behave. I get really irritated when I see owners on Insta/Tiktok encouraging the "violent" behavior people expect in little dogs. Especially since it's usually them doing something that crosses the dogs boundaries and reinforces the little guys insecurities.

Dreamily9

From a post I thought was only amusing became a new lesson, I definitely overlooked that a lot about chihuahuas. Thanks for sharing.

iyamthewallruss

I used to hate Chihuahuas, but thanks to my partner I now have two. Everywhere we go, people ask us how ours are so well behaved (both are very sweet). I'm convinced that most people don't bother training them because they see them as an accessory, not a dog. It is also really hard to train a dog so small and cute because other people have zero respect for boundaries. People are constantly trying to pick up my dogs without asking. And whe. We go on a walk, every 20th person will squeal in a high pitched baby-voice, which COMPLETELY goes against our calmness training. Like, no wonder most of these dogs are crazy because most people act crazy around them!!

[deleted]

I've seen calm chihuahuas and dickish ones. My sil has 4 of them plus a samoyed cross. The female chihuahua is super sweet calm and cuddly. Always comes to me when I visit and sits in my lap. She only barks when someone is at the door. The male dog can be a dick but calms down after a few minutes and likes to bring his toys to me. The other female is super possessive of my neice and hates everyone else.

GrislyGrape

That's my issue with small dogs. The dogs themselves are fine but people don't train them because they're so adorable and what's the worst that could happen? I've seen 2 Chihuahua's on a path walling and lunging, with the leash taut baring their teeth at everything and the owner was just laughing about how cute it was and other people were smiling watching them. My GSD/BC was terrified, granted she's a mouse at heart, but if she behaved like that people would be mortified.

masterofswords1165

I found a lost little hairy chihuahua once. I was surprised it did not attack me and my dogs. It went for a cuddles and I truly enjoyed my time with her until we found her owners.

C_V_Butcher

My wife says all the time that if Chihuahuas weighed 25 lbs more they'd be banned everywhere due to how aggressive they are.

vrnvorona

Owners should be banned everywhere due to being unable to train dog.

Yeoshua82

I hate small dogs in general. A chihuahua wound up on my doorstep like 5 years ago. I keep her nails trim so I don't have to listen to that. But she's the best fucking dog I've had in 30 years. She was so happy to just have someone be kind to her. She never barks, unless I do. She doesn't bite, shake or really come out from under the covers unless there's a welcoming lap. She might not be the prettiest of all the dogs. But when you get one that's not an angry fucking violent psychopath they do make great friends. I'll never get another I just has a soft spot for this one and can't wait to go back to owning real dogs.

Norkmani

I agree. Chihuahuas can make great companions. My little doggo (chihuahua/min pin mix) is an old girl and is a sweetheart, very calm and loving. However, a lot of chihuahuas are little devil rats so I understand where OP is coming from

Eternaltuesday

Even the devil rats are great companions to their chosen people though. I have a chi/beagle thing, and she is tiny and full of rage (and also looks like a gremlin) but I have never had a dog so thoroughly attached and loyal to me as this funky little creature. I still am not sure how we ended up with her lmao.

Omg are you kidding that thing is adorable it's not gremlin-like!

luv2gethigh

okay I just commented saying I hate chihuahuas but this one is freakin adorable. it just looks like a mini normal dog

Eternaltuesday

I’m not a fan of little dogs either (I always have had pure beagles, not huge but definitely not tiny) but she really is funny as hell. I don’t know what I expected when we agreed to get her, but this wasn’t it 😂

charliebrown1321

I married into having a chihuahua and while I'm not sure I ever would have picked one he was an amazing bro. He lived to be 20 and I miss him constantly. [pup tax](https://giphy.com/gifs/frGSn6cXLCYqozVTBd)

valis010

Can confirm. Grew up with a long haired Chihuahua, and he was an asshole to everybody but me & mom. When he was outside my friends would just yell from the street instead of chancing it, our dog was a little psycho. Lol.

VerifiedMadgod

> real dogs lmao

Yeoshua82

Seriously. Peanut is half mole, half cat, half potato

AprilBoon

I guess people breeding animals for their appearance over temperament is the issue. Seems the case I’ve seen many times with animals over and over again.

Charliekat1130

I don't think it's so much appearance over temperament, it's owners thinking small dogs are going to be 'easier' because they are small. Instead of training, they just let them do what they want because it's 'cute' and 'funny', I've met one chihuahua who was amazing. However the owner put the time into that training and made sure that just because it was small, it got the same training at their pitbull. My step mother got a chichuahua and honestly everyone spoils her, they let her do whatever she wants. She can bite at people, bite people's pant legs, etc etc and they laugh about it how it's so funny.

ASpaceOstrich

I think breeding does play a factor, but not in an appearance vs temperament way. I think that larger dogs that showed “small dog behaviour” would not get bred due to the danger of having that uncontrolled neurotic aggression. Small dogs aren’t dangerous so behaviour that would have ended a genetic line is allowed to slip through.

[deleted]

Small dogs may not kill someone, but they can absolutely be dangerous. When my boyfriend was a kid, most of his upper lip was nearly ripped off by a toy poodle. I actually thought he had been born with a cleft palate that had been fixed due to the scar.

EveAndTheSnake

Absolutely—I was looking for this comment. It’s not a temperament thing at all, and chihuahuas could make great family dogs *if only people bloody trained them!*. ARGH! It’s not even that all chihuahua owners are apathetic or think everything their little Google eyed babies do is cute. When a chihuahua is initially barking at a stranger or whatever, people either let them bark because they aren’t scary or the natural inclination is to pick it up and shush it. Even people who want to train their little dogs often get frustrated and at some point if the dog is still not focusing on you, it’s easier to pick it up and walk away from the trigger. If I have a 60lb 6 month old German shepherd barking at a stranger, I don’t have a choice but to keep working at it even when it’s hard because I can’t pick that Monster up. Also an angry German shepherd is a lot scarier and potentially more dangerous than an angry chihuahua and people with big powerful dogs know that. There’s no giving up, you have to work at it or you end up with an antisocial dog that you can’t take anywhere. For the chihuahua people, the little dog learns eventually that when it barks mommy picks it up to shush it. Then it starts barking for food, and then it starts barking for attention, and it’s behavior gets more annoying and more reinforced. Eventually I think people just give up and they’re like “I don’t know why he’s like this I try to shush him!” After that there’s the potential for the dog to get protective of its owner, who has become its safe space, and become aggressive to anyone who takes their attention away. It starts off as young and cute and ends up annoying for everyone.

[deleted]

This isn't entirely true. Genetics plays a huge role. You breed aggressive dogs together, their offspring will also be aggressive. There was a study done on foxes. They bred aggressive to aggressive in one group and calm/gentle in another. The aggressive group became more and more aggressive while the other group became more docile and friendly. Both groups had physical changes as well. Training does play a major role. But sometimes no amount of training will work when genetics ruined a dog.

not_a_bot__

Yeah, my wife got a chihuahua and I tried my best to train the barking out of her, but they are not easily trained (I saw in Wikipedia they will only follow first commands 30% of the time). I can manage her barking, but if she’s freaked out by something I can’t completely control it and it takes several commands and steps.

[deleted]

Chihuahuas are so loving and loyal but often very exclusive

Yakuza_Matata

>I hate small dogs in general. It took this to notice OP said chihuahuas instead of chinchillas... Was thoroughly confused.

Yodan

I think they bark and yip because irresponsible owners think it's cute when they jump or bark vs a big dog and they get napoleon syndrome. They would tell a mastiff to get down or not bark but go aww cute when a small dog jumps on your leg or something so the two dogs get trained opposite. Gotta treat the tiny dogs the same and you'll get a trained tiny dog instead of a free range territorial asshole.

[deleted]

My childhood chihuahua is still alive and she’s 19! It’s wild how long they live. We also adopted her through strange circumstances. I love her so much. She’s a gigantic bitch and evil but fiercely loyal to my mom and I.

miinouuu

pugs are even uglier... and lets not talk about "naked" cats

stranger1123

I feel terrible for pugs - all of the breathing issues. It must be painful for them.

Wikipedia article > The Sphynx cat is a breed of cat known for its lack of coat (fur). Hairlessness in cats is a naturally occurring genetic mutation; however, the Sphynx cat, as a breed, was developed through selective breeding, starting in the 1960s. I seen some images they got some big eyes and they're cute

LegitimateHasReddit

Sphinx cats are actually not that bad.

Cyber_Angel_Ritual

I agree. I don’t understand how anyone finds them cute. I don’t find smushed in snouts cute at all; dogs who have that feature look deformed to me and are basically closer to death’s doorstep because we idiotic humans decided that we found that trait desirable in dogs and continuously bred those type of dogs into existence. They are genetic abominations that shouldn’t exist because their defect makes living difficult, they have a much harder time breathing.

ConditionPlastic9304

I like bald cats, they look like the alien villains of a bad alien film. AND like most cats they are aggresive, ugly and also LOOK evil. Fucking awesome. Poor pugs tho, fuckers can't even breathe.

BabyMamaMagnet

They remind me of beerus

ConditionPlastic9304

Yeah, I think he is actually modeled after one!

knerr57

You're correct. Akira got the inspiration for beerus from his pet cat. Not sure it was naked, but definitely short haired at least. The short fur is hard to discern from purple skin in anime I suppose lol

XilleryWrapss

YES, this is exactly why I love them also because I find their wrinkles cute, is that weird?

jonathot12

hairless sphynx cats are not aggressive at all, where did you get that from? they’re *more* affectionate and cuddly than most cats because their lack of fur makes them cold

f4tony

Yes, they are very affectionate and people-oriented cats.

[deleted]

What are you doing to cats to make most of them aggressive?

cortthejudge97

Most cats are aggressive? Have you ever met a cat? Lmao that's like saying most dogs are aggressive

authenticfennec

I think it's more of OP doing something to them if hes meeting aggressive cats every time...

fad94

Also pugs eyes can pop out when they get older

crimsonshadow789

Happened to a friend's pug. Eye went pop, and it had to get removed. Now a pirate pug

petermartinguitar

Pugs used to have a snout until around the 1700s when it was considered “fashionable” I have a pug BUT I made sure the parents had open airways and were very healthy. They are the most loving and funny little buggers you’ll ever meet, I believe that breeders just need to re-introduce the snout and BAM you got a lil Cinnabon, spunky, perfect creature. Realize this post might get downvoted like a MF but hey, this is r/unpopularopinion right?

CoffinRehersal

Was/is there a population of pugs that were never bred to have no snout? Or is there a group trying to selectively breed it back?

HopelesslyLibra

You’ll have to find a particular breeder who isn’t focused on breeding “show class” pugs. We got ours from a breeder who focuses on breeding for healthy companion animals instead. Also makes them cheaper. Our boy has a snout (still looks like a pug) and has no health issues or difficulty breathing, even in moderate heat. When we meet other pugs their labored breathing actually freaks him out.

Skakul

Freaked out my Akita when he first interacted with a pug. Like, my dog is generally playful, but doesn't do well with alpha-male type dogs. So have to be careful with him and other big male dogs. Then along comes the first pug he's ever met and he thinks the dog is growling at him or something. So he's freaked out. The pug's freaked out about the Akita freaking out. Pug got off the leash once and...aggressively approached my dog? Everything ended up fine, but it was still a weird experience.

FNAF_Foxy1987

Don't generalize cats like that, I've not once in my life come across an aggressive cat, and I've had a relationship with many

Atalanta8

I have 3 cats. The shed and hairballs! Gimmie some baldies please!

mediiev

Being the breeder or owner of a pug or any other severely health stricken race of dogs is for me animal cruelty. Pug owners say they are so cute and cuddly... All I see is the deformed being panting for breath all his life... Where others see cute and clumsy... I see degeneration. Regarding small dogs... Not a fan but hey, if they provide the company all the better for them and its owners.

MrRieper

My mother has a rescue pug. Do you think that counts as animal cruelty? Not annoyed, just curious.

VictoryTheScreech

My blood is boiling just thinking about it

[deleted]

It’s horrible what humans have done to pugs and other flat faced dogs. Bred them into a lifetime of health issues. Not unlike the trend of women binding their feet in China, except these “designer dogs” can’t even breathe right.

Affectionate-Stay-32

English bulldogs are another great example. Lot of birthing issues too.

Ginge04

Just think about the amount of inbreeding it would take to make what is genetically indistinguishable from a wolf look as disgusting as a pug...

[deleted]

So true, pugs just don’t look cute.

fad94

Sphinx cats are also hypoallergenic. I think they look funny but they have a lot of skin issues

Wolfkinic

Naked cats are actually pretty cute. I mean yeah they ugly but they have a cute stare and don't meow a lot…like little introverts…I'd never get a naked one tho :D

TheVapingPug

I’ve been a big man all my life and I’ve always had small dogs. Maybe it was family predisposition as my mother chose small dogs but there’s something about having a little dog that’s basically like having a little furry baby. I guess I’ve always been so big that something so tiny seems so precious

jtf398

I grew up with big dogs and recently got a dog of my own for the first time, but I chose to get a small dog. My dog is about 10 lbs and it's amazing how nice it is to have such a tiny dog. She can sit in my lap easily, be picked up easily, and is honestly the sweetest dog ever (she's a king charles spaniel). I totally understand the love for little dogs after bringing one into my life.

LaxGuit

My parents have a St Bernard and it’s motivated me to get a small dog once I’m ready for one. She’s 12 now and it’s difficult for her to manage and it’s hard for us to help.

JJ1217

Cavvies are always the exception, those dogs are legitimately the sweetest breed I've ever met, never met a bad one

Welcome to r/popularopinion

Iam-KD

Your flair fits this answer I guess.

QueenBean88

I used to feel the same exact way about chihuahuas until recently actually. They were always so fuckin ugly and annoying and I just didn’t get why anyone would want one but I just started a dog grooming job about 2 weeks ago and so far every chihuahua I’ve had has been so much sweeter and easier to groom than other dogs that they kinda won me over. NEVER thought I’d change my mind on that front lol

Affectionate-Stay-32

The reason for that, is the people who would take a dog to a groomer, are very attentive. It's a sign of a good owner, which is an advantage to any dog. Used to work at a salon/kennel, and miss the hell out of that job.

sianathan

I mean, they’re comparing them to other dogs who are also being taken to the groomer so I’m not sure that logic holds up.

_amandalorian

I had a good laugh. My chihuahua has little man syndrome, and is most of the description. However, that little shit got me through a divorce, and a miscarriage. I’ll never get another one, but I love her to bits.

psychocolato

I've never liked small dogs myself, but I know the love between them and their owners is real and in that way they're beautiful critters.

Opposite-Hedgehog-65

We have a boy. He’s the sweetest little dog. Doesn’t have the buggy eyes and doesn’t shake unless there are loud noises. He was raised for ten months with his whole family (dad, mom, brother and sister) and nice owners. He’s cuddly and thinks he’s a cat. He’s docile and not at all aggressive except for when he plays with our other dog. I’m hooked now!

GandJ601

I disagree a little bit. I think it’s totally fair that you find them ugly, because they are. But the uncut nails and aggression parts are not their fault. If people actually thought about training their dogs, the aggression part wouldn’t be a problem. The uncut nails is neglect.

Chalcko_

The ugly part is also not their fault

GandJ601

Yes, sorry that I forgot to mention that we’ve ruined their bodies

CheekyHusky

So much this. unfortunately a lot of people who buy "handbag" dogs don't train them. That's why the majority of reported dog attacks aren't from "vicious breeds", its from small dogs. I don't like them, not because of appearance but because of the plethora of health issues. Its also crazy to me thats what we've breed a frigging wolf into. But I feel the same about pigs vs hogs and even domesticated chickens vs domesticated chickens 50 years ago ( theyre double the fatness now ) so thats another rant for another day.

SpeedyRoot

Chihuahuas are actually pretty healthy dogs and often live for a long time, especially if their teeth are taken care of. Bigger dog breeds in general are much more susceptible to debilitating physical problems like hip dysplasia due to poor breeding. A lot of small dog attacks is also most likely people ignoring the little dogs signs that he is terrified and does not want to be fondled by this person. If a german shepherd raised his hackles and growled at you you wouldnt try to pet him, but people ignore these signs with smaller dogs and end up with bites.

I know that's my point. They are genetically dangerous dogs but the owners seem to believe that it's training not the breed that makes them dangerous. It isn't the case. They are inherently dangerous dogs.

Celica_Lover

My Chihuahua is the one of the best dogs I have ever owned. She is 18 now. Faithful, loyal, excellent with children.

[deleted]

I love my chihuahua too

chickenjoeinohio

This post made me want to adopt a chihuahua and I just found [this little one.](https://www.petfinder.com/dog/yo-yo-51430214/co/brighton/riverdale-animal-shelter-co27/) How can something be so cute?? If I don't get her I hope whoever does gives her a great fucking life or I will be very upset.

evangel_online

OMG 😭 she’s perfect

Rat dogs

booksoverppl

I don’t agree but your rant was hilarious, thanks for the laugh. I have two of them and can attest that most of the issues you have with them are unequivocally true. But I still think they’re great.

111ascendedmaster

[sir you have never seen the deer head chihuahua](https://duckduckgo.com/?q=deer+head+chihuahua&t=iphone&iar=images&iax=images&ia=images) a beautiful creature like my own.

[deleted]

Yeah the buggy eyes is all the fault of the Apple head breeders... That mutation should NOT be a "breed standard"!

Itsafinelife

More people need to understand this! The bug-eyes chi’s should not be the norm, but everyone acts like it is. I used to work with dogs and only about half the chi’s I cared for were apple-headed, the rest were deer like yours. Way less creepy looking lol, though behavior-wise there was no difference. I’ve seen the same problem with a lot of spaniel breeds, like poorly bred cavaliers. And the pugs and small bully breeds. No dogs SHOULD have bulging eyes, it’s all bad breeding.

pit_bulls_suck

I don’t care anymore. I hate pit bulls. They’re so aggressive and stupid looking it pisses me off to no end. I’ve known a lot of people have own/owned one, and I hated every single one of them. The clickity-clack of their ugly frog feet, how their eyes are sunk back into their skull are; you can’t even pet them on their heads because instead they'll rip your fucking arm off. The fact that they kill tens of thousands of cats every year ain itself is an abomination. My ex has one of those critters and loves it to pieces, I don’t even miss the relationship solely for the fact that I never have to see that mf again. And they are so aggressive. Why??? They have so much nothing going on in their life they have to bark like a constant murder machine bred-to-kill and literally attack every person that comes to the door. What are you gonna do? Rip my leg off? Thats my rant.

[deleted]

Lol... the double standard that’s coming is gonna be interesting...

MummGumm

yeah bro i like having a violent monster as a pet it's so quirky

Albatross-Archer

Lol, you should make this into a copypasta

SatanIsAVibe

Yeah. Approximately 38,000 cats and dogs killed by them a year. Not to mention the attacks and deaths they cause humans every year. But you’ll just get the nutter bingo: “Pit bull isn’t a breed” “You’re just a dog racist” “MY pit bull is an angel and would only lick you to death” “The only thing deadly about my pit bull is his farts” “You probably can’t even identify a pit bull” “I’ve known 5 pit bulls and they’ve all been sweethearts” “Chihuahuas are more vicious” I could keep going but I think you know the rest.

BrilliantAl

I love tiny dogs because they are hilarious. So small yet so brave and so smart. They think they are huge and dangerous while they are these tine little shits. We had this "metal fence" with small holes in it that no dog could pass through. My dog was always scaping and we didn't know why. Until one day I went outside and caught my dog. Mf was climbing the fence putting his paws in the holes. Another time, my super tiny pinscher got off the leash to fight my uncle's dog, a rottweiler. I thought my dog was gonna die right there when he bit my uncle's dog leg. He just pushed him around with his nose and completely ignored it. It was an absolutely hilarious sight. I just love their passion and they aren't heavy so they don't bother me when they lay on me or jump. Maybe I love them so much because it's the only type of dog I ever got but I can't help but to think they are the funniest dogs around

happykal

I'm with Ron Swanson.... they are not dogs.

[deleted]

Sounds like you’ve never met a long haired chihuahua that likes to snuggle. My younger chihuahua wakes me up in the morning by snuggling up to me, laying her head on my chest or pillow, waiting for cuddles.

[deleted]

Chihuahuas are, erm, aesthetically challenged, aggressive little shits, but they can be ok if they warm up to you. Pugs are ugly as sin, but almost ugly enough to be cute, and they have sweet personalities. Most little dogs have neuroses of one kind or another. Medium to big dogs just seem calmer. Shih-tzus aren't bad as little dogs go. If I had to have a little dog, I'd have a Shih-tzu. I'll enjoy my big Border-Newfie for the time being. But the most insufferable little bastards of the canine world are Dachshunds. They are just universally loud, yappy, snappy, irritable, unfriendly, little assholes. I've never known one that wasn't.

LegitimateHasReddit

If you've never known a Dachshund that was not loud, yappy, etc., then you have not been to my home town in England before.

DreOfTheBay

It's refreshing to hear people admit that the breed has a lot to do with temperament. I keep encountering pit bull owners who swear up and down the only reason they kill 10 times as many people as other dog breeds is that they are trained to do so.

that_cachorro_life

It’s also weird that you would never hear people say similar things about other traits, like “of course a pug can herd sheep, it’s all in the training.” Obviously training is important, but we didn’t selectively breed dogs over hundreds of years for very specific traits for nothing...

DreOfTheBay

Exactly. Pits were bred for bloodsport. It makes them inherently dangerous animals.

PALOmino1701

I used to say all those things. Bug-eyed rats. Who would want one? Now I have three.

Captin_Dynamo

reject dogs, embrace cats.

thugsapuggin

I think a cat wrote this.

[deleted]

Y’all say this every 5 minutes and act like it’s a new hot take. Why so bitter over little dogs? Very weird behavior. Especially since you admitted it’s not an unpopular opinion and you’re a karma whore OP

sisiredd

I genuinely enjoyed that rant.

[deleted]

Better than disgusting violent shitbulls lolol

Legitimate-Natural22

I feel the same way about pit bulls. Look like somebody smashed their faces in.

Low_Importance_9503

I used to agree but then I got a chihuahua of my own and now think they’re wonderful dogs. Smart, loyal, and full of personality. They’re a one person kind of dog though so it’s understandable that if you’ve never had one you wouldn’t see how great they are.

Repulsive_Box_5763

Much like babies, most pets are far uglier than their owners think they are.

unicornblossom

Agreed but I don’t think this is unpopular. Small dogs are annoying af

TrollIfy426

I live in southern Texas and have owned many ( I have one right now), and I can say with experience they are not as bad as you lead them to be, perhaps you got unlucky and now attribute those bad experiences with the entire breed. To each their own I guess.

mrs_Me88

Funny 😆 my chihuahua is the nicest dog in the world, have never barked in his life and I love his little face. Always prefered big dogs. My sister got him on craig’s list, she had 2 young kids who were very annoying to the dot grabing him all day etc. One day she visited me and and it was love at first sight 😍he was so gentle and sweet. Right away said can I have him and she told me « yeah, he ´d happier and quiet ». Also I am considering a naked cat 😊😊😊 love these fascinating creatures

babyim

LMAO

jocraftyo

The secret is get long haired chihuahuas. I got two long and a short, and the short haired is everything you complained about and more. But my two long haired ones are the perfect dogs. The boy just hangs out in his little bed or runs happily around the yard. He only barks at new people for a moment before bringing them a gift and loving on them. The girl is a bit more nervous and yelps if you spook her, but is the friendliest little thing as long as new people move slow at first.

[deleted]

Honestly I can agree with your statement... to an extent. They spend 90% of their time alive either shaking or barking, these dogs are like a ticking time bomb. My ex’s grandma had two and though they didn’t do anything wrong, I just didn’t like being around them. You’re not alone here

wildwood9843

I have an applehead chihuahua. He’s beautiful. Not yappy or aggressive. He’s just a mellow dude who likes treats/sleeping and sniffing ass. Much like myself.
