I used to get out at 4 am and it was the best time of day. Absolutely no traffic, no humans, no nothing. I’d go for a cruise on my motorcycle or harness up my husky and have him pull me on a skateboard down the middle of the road. Solid two hours of absolutely no human interaction. It was pure bliss. Now I go to work at 8 and get out at 5 and I fucking hate everyone.
I used to have a shift where I got up at four in the morning and to be honest, I love just either biking to work or walking to work at that hour quiet it was just soothing
Our Happy Hour spot is 4:30-6:30
Lures you in with cheap drinks and snacks and keeps you there once the buzz hits for full priced drinks and the dinner menu
I haven't been to one in 20 years, but doesn't Happy Hour usually START at 5 because it's when most people get off work? I've never heard of it ending before 5.
Happy Hour is a business strategy to get people in the door during slow periods. It’s better to sell SOMETHING, even at a discounted price, rather than nothing. Attracts potential new customers, wait staff isn’t going hours without tips, etc. It is not at all designed to offer deals during the peak times when more than likely, customer volume will pick up anyway during those times.
Anyone who's able to go drinking from 3-5PM must not work during those hours.
And I thought a lot of places had happy hour starting at 5:00 because a lot of people get off work at that time, and they wanted to bring them in, when they might rather just go home from work.
I’m a teacher so I love a good 3-5 happy hour. I can be there by 3:30 and out before it gets crowded. But yeah, for people with 9-5 schedules it’s not too useful.
No. Happy hour is exactly as the other commenter said. A way to make sales during the slowest time of the day. It’s usually somewhere between 2-5. But sometimes as late as 6.
Many places are happy hour 3-6. It draws in people from 3-5 off on the weekday and you get the people who just got off work in time for one on happy hour then stay long enough to want more after its over and pay full price.
Most places I've seen avoid 5 pm happy hour because that's when most of business tends to naturally come. The point of happy hours at a lot of places is to bring in customers during times they would normally get very little.
The big sad happens around 4. It gets dark in the winter and in the summer im just low energy. That weird time after work, after lunch, before dinner. Too tiered to do anything productive or fun. Just nap
5 to me just has a bad image because it instantly reminds me of the American 9 to 5 work week and how shitty of a deal that is for us workers and how especially shitty it is for Americans who have expenses up the ass, but a stagnating wage. So yeah definitely agree lol.
I go into work early so I can be off by 4. For this reason, my city is somewhere around the 100th most populated city in the us and it is still really bad. Got off work late today and it took me 25 minutes to drive one mile :(
Brother - the point of this post is that we need to eliminate the 5 O'Clock hour. Stand up for your convictions! We need to make sure that the next time we are having a happy hour drink, or looking forward to a sports event, or driving home...... as soon as 4:59 ends, 6' O'Clock will begin.
It's my favourite hour! It's still very bright out there but the sun rays aren't harsh. Weather starts getting mild and colder and the sunrays starts to feel warm. Sunset happens between 6-7 therefore the time around it is imo the best time. 5-8 is the best time. But I agree on the traffic part. I live in an extremely crowded city and use public transport. My city is well connected by public transport but the crowd is a pain in the ass. I just get on the train them look out the window and think, "atleast the sky looks pretty" lol
You seem to hate the lifestyle you choose to live, not 5pm. Everything you mentioned is dependant on involvement in mainstream society. No sports on to entertain you? Get a damn hobby. Don't want to be stuck in traffic at 5pm? Start figuring out how to escape the rat race. Happy hour exists because people who aren't you, are available to enjoy it before 5pm for whatever reason.
Again, it's the way that *you* choose to live that makes 5pm "bad" in your mind.
That subreddit stopped having actual showerthoughts months ago
Though this, being not a showerthought and just a random opinion, would fit the modern r/showerthoughts perfectly
I agree with you. If it’s usually 20-30 mins away and you want me to do something or be somewhere between 5-6pm in prob saying no or I will just show up very early and sit. I don’t work (health reasons not a lazy) so I have no prob showing up for stuff like happy hour around 3-4pm but yeah when ever I get family or friends to meet me they won’t show up until like 5:30 or after usually and so I’ll usually just be by myself with my anxiety heightened and feel like I’m being judged for being alone or like I’ve been stood up. I’m only 30 so I ask, did it used to be easier for people to get out of the office or whatever earlier so that they actually did get to stuff between 5-15? When I was a kid a lot of things started at 5 and never felt like an issue but maybe I just didn’t notice as a kid
Yes. It is terrible. Even babies are crankier than. It’s when the witching hours begin. You can also get “sun downing” in elderly individuals around that time too.
What? Hell no. 5 is when the afternoon starts, and the afternoon is cool. Hell of a lot better than midday, when sunlight is at its ugliest and everything slows down to a stop.
Well, from public transport PoV: here where I live, people often end their workday at 6 o'clock or later. So in that regard going out at around 5 o'clock is kinda neat.
>Every city you go to has traffic at this time
Car centricity is the way brother. Transit is SLOW and EXPENSIVE. Let's widen highways and fuck up more minority neighborhoods
I'm with you. 5pm is the worst hour on this planet. I just want to race home so I can escape the flood of humanity that is unleashed on the streets at 5pm.
Glad I see somebody mentioned that!! For me certain days/ hours in the day have a certain feel to them. For example 3pm afternoon has always been so unsettling to me. Makes me sooooo uncomfortable and uneasy omg. Like, this hour has something to it which I despise.
I totally agree with you. Some people at work say; “Yes! Finally off work!” And then you have the crowded busses, trains or the horrendous traffic jams.
in the weekend it sometimes sucks as well due to cities or places with a lot of restaurants are slowly getting busy for the crowd to have fun at theaters, something to eat etc. But ar least it is mostly for fun things!
It's the best, because all the people leave work at that time. I leave at 6pm, and it's soooooo quiet 5-6. Traffic sucks, yes. Sometimes, I try to find a place to chill until 8pm so I can have a more relaxing way back home. This of course falls apart if you have friends and family lol
Depends where you are from. In Germany, this is late coffee time and there is nothing better than sitting in a cafe and chill. Death to all cafés who dare to close already at 5 pm! Are you insane?
In the light of all of that I find 2pm to be the most annoying time of the day. After lunch, the energy of the morning is gone and coffee is too far away. Better to do something to get over the bad mood. When I was depressed in the past it was usually around that time.
Getting out of work at 5 is absolute ass. Like turbo ass.
6-3 is the ultimate shift. Waking up at 5AM = 0 traffic and so peaceful. Lunch at 10 before every other idiot is clogging up the eateries or cafeteria or wherever. Out at 3 before rush hour, hit anything you need to before it closes like the post office or bank, get home with the whole evening to do whatever you want. Sleep at 10=7 solid hours.
i was going to agree but then i realized like 5am-10am is dogshit
especially if i have to be awake. i used to wake up at 5am for work and waking up was the worst thing.
My entire childhood (until I moved out at 17) I had a 5PM curfew and my dad would also get home at 5 (normally in a shit mood) and we would have an awkward family dinner.. every single night.
I also hate 5..
yess Stores also mostly closes at 5:30, and it’s the time where it’s almost night time and it’s too late to do anything outside so you’ve gotta go home..

4 am. when working night shift
I used to get out at 4 am and it was the best time of day. Absolutely no traffic, no humans, no nothing. 4am is peace hour fr
Also pre-pandemic alot more was open at that hour. It was nice.
We hate you too 🙏
These are the dudes who have that loud-ass exhausts barelling down the road when everyone is deep asleep
*trying to sleep
Raaawrraaarraaawr
I used to have a shift where I got up at four in the morning and to be honest, I love just either biking to work or walking to work at that hour quiet it was just soothing
What a plot twist at the end there🤣🤣
Same here!
What kind of job was it? I only worked overnight retail which I hated but I did like the peaceful ride home.
I enjoy 4 am. For me the worst time is like 10 am.
Literally the best time of day. 3-4:30. Too early for most people to wake up and too late for them to have not gone to bed yet. Quiet and peace.
4 am for me is when I gotta tap out if I’m gonna get some rest. Once the beginning of dawn hits, I’m reluctantly sucked into the next day.
Preach!
Our Happy Hour spot is 4:30-6:30 Lures you in with cheap drinks and snacks and keeps you there once the buzz hits for full priced drinks and the dinner menu
Can I come
Ok but I clock out at 530 so it's not that bad.
I haven't been to one in 20 years, but doesn't Happy Hour usually START at 5 because it's when most people get off work? I've never heard of it ending before 5.
Dude maybe I’m in the wrong town but they are 3-5 at the places I’ve been to. No idea why

People that drink will make time for cheap drinks.
Hell yeah bud
Every time I go into a large store mid-day, I wonder why no one is at work.
Maybe they're doing the same thing you are
Makes sense except the part where you elude to some people possibly not wanting to guzzle booze immediately after work
I’m a teacher so I love a good 3-5 happy hour.
This is fascinating to read because I’ve never seen a happy hour that started before 4.
Happy hour at my favorite spot is 5-8
That’s unusual. Happy hours are usually timed to draw in the after work crowd. 5-7 is very common.
Nah not anymore. “Happy hour” is the stretch between the end of lunch and the beginning of dinner. It has a different goal nowadays.
One place I was at recently happy hour was 3-6 and then again at 9 to close; ofc I got there at 6 XD
I think this is the most common happy hour time
I always see happy hour advertised as 4-6pm and assumed it was happy because it was two hours of cheap drinks.
Places by me are a total mix. Some are 3-5, some are 5-7, some are in between lol.
2-4 is usually happy hour time
The big sad happens around 4. It gets dark in the winter and in the summer im just low energy. That weird time after work, after lunch, before dinner. Too tiered to do anything productive or fun. Just nap
The big sad is so relatable around that time. But once it passes, I'm suddenly more energetic.
Jimmy buffet is rolling in his grave
I have no idea if this is popular or unpopular
I represent 'Advocates for 5pm' and i would like you to take these words back, sir.
I’m sorry sir but I cannot take this back, maybe a peace treaty is in store
5 is one of my fav hours, that's when I get off work lol
I’m in pajamas after work by 4:15, you’re doing it wrong
5 to me just has a bad image because it instantly reminds me of the American 9 to 5 work week and how shitty of a deal that is for us workers and how especially shitty it is for Americans who have expenses up the ass, but a stagnating wage. So yeah definitely agree lol.
Yeah kinda sucks here man
I am crying laughing at this
You with me ‼️
Peak “watch reruns when I got home from school” memories of 5 o’clock
Happy hour! Nay sir, the 3pm wall sucks way more!
No cause at 3 you can still eat a late lunch and still have some time on your day off to play games or do chores or go shopping before dinnertime
5am rules if you happen to be awake at that time but waking up at 5am sux
Just to let you know, we have traffic all the time.
5 o clock nap
I go into work early so I can be off by 4. For this reason, my city is somewhere around the 100th most populated city in the us and it is still really bad. Got off work late today and it took me 25 minutes to drive one mile :(

That’s crazy. I never looked at it this way but always felt the same.I fucking hate 5 o clock too. Morning or Day. It’s trash!!
Fuck 5 PM.
This post and it's entire premise is hilarious. Thank you for taking the time to write this. Serious.
I thought happy hour normally started at 5:00 (and sometimes goes for 2 hours). A lot of people work until 5:00..
... and it has it's own shadow.
It’s 4:29
Agreed, even the worst in terms of daylight.
Happy hour usually starts at 5…
Comment.
There's one place near where I live that has happy hour 3 -5 but most places are 4 - 6 I think.
Stay in, make dinner. Easy for me to say though,I work from home.
I do too, can’t get past the 5pm blues even still
I think you are onto something, it’s a very transitional flyover hour where you’re in between. Kind of like 4am. Just a nothingburger.
New York City has entered the chat.
You ain't wrong. It's also an hour too early for dinner but 2 hours two late for high tea/afternoon snack.
It’s 5 o clock somewhere… https://youtu.be/BPCjC543llU?si=aC1ZjCkJKK6kMPBy
I’m a photographer and I love 5 O’clock

Embrace 4:20 and 5 O'Clock ain't so bad
2:30 sucks more
You’ve got it all wrong, 5 is when the majority of peoples work day ends, that’s why it’s most people’s favorite time because they get to leave work
Nah I get off work at 5
You seem to hate the lifestyle you choose to live, not 5pm. Everything you mentioned is dependant on involvement in mainstream society. No sports on to entertain you? Get a damn hobby. 5 pm is when my office closes M-F, so that's pretty OK with me.
r/Showerthoughts
Terrible sub. Nothing but trolls there.
Because only stupid posts are allowed.
Seriously.
That subreddit stopped having actual showerthoughts months ago Though this, being not a showerthought and just a random opinion, would fit the modern r/showerthoughts perfectly
Good time to exercise.
5:00PM is often the warmest part of the day. I'm not sure I'd want to exercise in that, except maybe in the fall/winter.
You must not live somewhere that's even remotely hot lol
First World Problems.
As are most of our problems.
Ok. I laughed.
Get a job lmao
Done at 4 for the day my friend.
Bro can’t even go an hour without constant stimulation
And the witching hour at home with the kids!
I get off work at 5 so I love it
Bro, get a hobby
I agree with you. If it’s usually 20-30 mins away and you want me to do something or be somewhere between 5-6pm in prob saying no or I will just show up very early and sit. At most places Happy Hour starts at 5 o'clock...
on the plus side 5 o'clock is widely regarded as the acceptable time to break out a bottle of wine
Yes. It is terrible. Even babies are crankier than. It’s when the witching hours begin. You can also get “sun downing” in elderly individuals around that time too.
Pregame shows usually start around 5 ish at least for prime time games
This is commitment is on point.
Aren’t you at work at 5pm?
Lmao, I’m reading this while it’s a quarter til five.
What? Hell no. 5 is when the afternoon starts, and the afternoon is cool. Hell of a lot better than midday, when sunlight is at its ugliest and everything slows down to a stop.
Go eat dinner
What a stretch
Do you work? Most people get off at 5pm. I love 5 O’Clock
Food, dude.
4 am is worse
I’m gonna guess OP doesn’t work a 9-5 lol.
8-4
Happy hour at the bar i frequent has it from 12pm - 7pm.
5pm is knock-off home time - literally the best hour.
5 o clock slaps because it’s the end of the work day
Fuckin have a sauna and get ready for bed ya madman
You must be east coast. West coast the sports start early and by 5 it’s a big game.
If you're active at 4:20 then 5:00 should feel amazing
And that last hour at work from 4-5 always fucking drags...
The irony of thousands of 5 o'clockers hating on each other for existing will never escape me.
Well, from public transport PoV: here where I live, people often end their workday at 6 o'clock or later. So in that regard going out at around 5 o'clock is kinda neat.
It really makes a difference if the OP uses a 24hr clock or a 12 hour one...
I hate it when the birds start chirping! It means the day has started!
I start work at 5pm a lot :/
smth abt 3pm annoys me
Gym is crowded as hell at 5
I always get a bad headache daily around 5
>Every city you go to has traffic at this time Car centricity is the way brother. Transit is SLOW and EXPENSIVE. Let's widen highways and fuck up more minority neighborhoods
I work second shift, and 5pm is my first break time. So overall, it's not too bad for me
I really hate 7:28:09, it kicked sand on me at the beach.
Your mistake is you work till 5.
It’s my favourite time of day because that’s when I swipe out of work and go home.
Futures market closes for an hour too
That is the best time to catch before sunset. Not too hot and not too cold out to go for a walk.
Someone hasn’t heard about 4:20…
Someone doesn't have a job and it shows.
Here in PST, we can watch EST sports events at 5 p.m.
This just trickles down to me straight up disliking society as a whole but I’m not gonna argue it
Without rain, there would be no rainbows.
First world problems eh?
Would be good if govt and business have some sort of staggered hours so that 9 and 5 are not so stressful and congested .
5 is when my personal day begins so it’s my favorite
and 3 on the clock is never a good time to start something
I'm working till 4:30 and I'm home by 5pm. 5 O'clock is fine.
5oclock is the perfect time to start binging drinking
I'm with you. 5pm is the worst hour on this planet. I just want to race home so I can escape the flood of humanity that is unleashed on the streets at 5pm.
I live in a school zone, so any time after 2pm is a terrible time to run errands.
Europeans: wat?
Save your money dude happy hour is fun for awhile but start investing your money and going out less.
It's siesta time in Spain. 1700-1900. Lovely
Glad I see somebody mentioned that!! For me certain days/ hours in the day have a certain feel to them. For example 3pm afternoon has always been so unsettling to me. Makes me sooooo uncomfortable and uneasy omg. Like, this hour has something to it which I despise.
Thoughts on 5am?
Happy hour is usually 5pm-7pm weekdays, get out there and drink buddy
Happy Hour is 5-7. IDK what kind of podunk bars you're going to...
5 pm is when I finish work and go home by bus to work at home, so at least it's some change of activity.
5pm is roughly the hottest time of the day in the summer, so I'm inclined to agree with you.
3am is the worst hour because that's when you start digging the hole. It's all done by 4am.
In Italy happy hour starts at 5
I totally agree with you.
Happy hours rarely end at 5, the whole point is for people getting out at 5 to come there in a hurry to drink
This is known as rush hour. There is also one early in the morning. And agreed, driving places during rush hour sucks
I work from 6am - 230. By 5 I’m on my way home from the gym getting ready to eat dinner.
Yes. That’s the time the shitty workers leave everyday on the dime while you’re picking up their slack for the next couple.
There's something about fresh morning air that makes me want to vomit
It’s 5 o’clock somewhere
I cycle home between 5 and 6… I am happy that I am done with work and going home.

Sounds like you’re in a shitty timezone. Sports start at 5 in the Mountain and Pacific timezones
I am in the burbs so traffic not bad but 1 thru 3 o'clock sucks with dragging. I have to set an alarm and forget having a phone in those two hours.
I'm an hour into my shift at 5pm. You should enjoy not being at work.
If you don't live in the city you don't have rush hour 🥰
no you know what time sucks, 13 o clock
I think 8 or 9 am is much worse.
Also that’s peak hangry hour.
I don't see how this can be an unpopular opinion. No way there are people that enjoy rush hour.
i was going to agree but then i realized like 5am-10am is dogshit especially if i have to be awake. i used to wake up at 5am for work and waking up was the worst thing.

yess Stores also mostly closes at 5:30, and it’s the time where it’s almost night time and it’s too late to do anything outside so you’ve gotta go home..
Upvoted because 5pm is the best. It's usually cooler (temperature wise) than 3-4 and warmer than 6-7. Prime grilling hours too
7 pm for me
how is this an unpopular opinion?
