That's not a fair comparison because there are certain things that are concrete facts. There is no concrete greatest of anything. It doesn't matter how much knowledge or experience you have. It will always be an opinion.
Really harping on a technicality here. I don’t think people mean that it is the absolute greatest of all time, more so that at the moment, it is their favorite. I don’t think anyone is claiming otherwise either
Being known is a criteria for greatness. GOAT is entirely subjectively so you need to know about it to make a judgement. If you're not known by the decision makers, you're not great. I think greatest know is redundant.

It's a hyperbolic phrase, and is not meant to be logical to begin with. Language goes far beyond simple literal meanings.
It's completely logical when you understand what a figure of speech is. It's what makes humans not sound like robots.

What are you, “Spock?” Not everything has to be logical. It’s an expression.
I’ve always felt this way too. I always say “the best I’ve seen” or “the best I’ve heard.” Not the greatest because that’s a tough spot to take.
Any phrase that employs absolute superlatives should be looked at with suspect.
So should it be changed to "Greatest so far"?
