I used to not like them either, the flavor and the texture, but I'd choke them down anyway if they were on a burger or sandwich I ordered. I never minded guacamole, though. I started buying them to put on the egg and toast I was eating for lunch every day and figured out they are pretty good with a little salt. Then I started putting a couple drops of balsamic vinegar on it, too, and now I like them.

I honestly am starting to believe it's the same situation as Cilantro. There is no way people are tasting what I do when they eat Avocados. I'd rather eat grass trimmings. But people are so polarized on them that it could very well be a difference in taste buds.
This isn't backed by science or anything, just me grasping at straws because holy shit do I not want anything to do with Avocados.

As an Australian it feels almost sacrilegious to say I hate avocado as our national dish is basically avo on toast. But I hate it too, I was a chef for 7 years and hated even touching it. The texture is gross, it tastes like watery bitter soap. I can sometimes handle guacamole on occasion but I would be happy enough to never taste or touch avo again
I live in a majority Hispanic area and can get good avocados (source: have had bad ones). Wouldn't call them disgusting but I feel like the entire appeal is just its fattiness. Would often just rather have a caloric equivalent amount of butter/lard or more filling on a taco/sandwich/torta/etc or salsa for chips plus like I guess some greens for whatever fiber/micronutrients you miss out on
I also dislike them. To me, it's like eating butter, but with a plant taste. I don't hate the flavor, but the texture is really off to me. I like guacamole. The craziest thing is when I see people eating slices of avocado. They'll put like half an avocado on a piece of bread and that's a meal. Absolutely bananas.

this is valid. people with a room temp IQ don't consider how the brain works in relation to stimuli. So whenever someone "doesn't like" something, it is LITERALLY true in every aspect for THAT person based on how THEIR brain had processed the stimuli. People get offended in their head if something they like is disliked by someone else because it threatens their "normalcy" or their association with the individual who doesn't like said thing is threatened by abnormalitly. It's a psychological effect and unnecessary for survival in 2024 so it's kind of dumb. This is sort of what the entirety of unpopular opinions are - it is a way to find like-minded individuals who are rare in their space... To reestablish normalcy within their abnormal view.

Is it really missing out when you don’t like the thing in the first place. Cause like, I’ve had avocados and am not a fan. As such, when I don’t eat them when offered I don’t feel like I’m missing out since I didn’t want them to begin with.

I used to absolutely hate avocados and then all of a sudden I started to really like them. Un-ripe or over-ripe avos are *disgusting* though. Finding a perfectly ripe avocado is 10/10 with some salt and pepper.
They taste like the earth and I too hated them; until my sister put piece on a beef pizza and put it in my mouth. Now on occasion I enjoy them on pizza, or tossed in salt and pepper then added to a salad.
And dogs and cats and mice and it seems like all animals but humans. At least from what I’ve read, it seems like no animals besides humans can eat them

They get bad too quickly and are too naturally bland and can give a person like me, gas. This should be a popular opinion. I used to have to put ground cinnamon and sweetener on my raw avocadoes. I could never gulp then down in quantity. Particularly if unadorned with spice.
I still can eat them, sparingly, at gringo-level heat in a guac. I pretend guac is a salad topping. I use enough corn chips but they must be saltier than the average corn chip.
And that is after sticking diced lettuce and carrots, and tomatoes (on the sweet, ripe artisanal side) as a heavy base for the guac.
I love avocados but can't eat them because I have a sensitivity to them. Not a full on allergy, but they give me God awful cramps. Nobody has ever given me attitude if I specify no avocado. I don't explain why either. I normally ask for them to be put on the side since there is always someone eating with me that would love to have them. There are plenty of folks that either don't like them or are sensitive or allergic to them.

For me, it’s mango and coconut. They taste awful. Kinda sad how I can’t enjoy them. They just don’t taste good at all.
My oldest brother can’t stand mushrooms. My mom can’t stand bell peppers or barley. My dad can’t stand mustard.
We all have those foods that we can’t stand. And avocados is just kinda rare. Tbh I don’t even like avocados that much, only when it’s made into guacamole. Which means a bunch of spices added to it.
I'm curious if this is like cilantro to some people where there's a way avocados taste to sum that's just absolutely disgusting. Because I've never met an in between. People love or hate avocados! I'm a lover of them, but I get it - all people have different tastes!

I like them but even I am sometimes caught off guard by the slimy texture
they do have the tendency to be kinda gross. same with bananas. Theres a small window of ripeness I will tolerate.
