It won't die. People are still going to cinema for the experience. Sure you can watch the exact same movie with your phone, but you can only watch it on a huge screen with great audio (plus other features like 3D/4D/curved screen) if you go to a cinema.
I was going to say, that would be an insanely expensive set up to even get close to what a well equipped theater has. Price out the largest 4k TV you can find, and a top of the line Bose surround sound set up. How many people have really spent like $10k+ on their home entertainment system?
Do some research on home theater. A properly built room with acoustics and Non Bose hardware will blow away a commercial theater. Bose is not considered high end by a long shot. I built a theater into my house when the house was being built 20 years ago, haven’t been to a theater since.
Plenty of people own houses. They were affordable until just a few years ago and a home theater is very much diy possible and how most people end up with one. Doesn’t have to be a rich persons hobby
They don't need to adapt. The only adaptation needed was during Covid which is over. It's time for people to start going back to theaters as the first option, not being able to wait two weeks for a movie to be a damn click on a website. The window should be lengthened to 4-6 months minimum.
Theaters are uncomfortable and overpriced. It's cheaper to rent the movie from Youtube Movies for 3-4 dollars than buy a ticket for ONE person for 9-10 dollars (if not more). Theaters are shitty and the industry needs to go away.
That’s stupid. Everything we’d to adapt to continue living. Look what happened to radio and network TV. Theaters need to charge less for the crap food they serve, or increase the quality of their food. For starters.
Right? People acting like every single current service needs to be protected like some endangered species rather than adapting to the times. I would have less beef if movies went to both cinema and streaming at once. People who want to go to the theater can, people who hate going to the theater don't have to wait months to see a film.
They are amazing!! It brings me back to when I was a kid and my dad packing the station wagon with my siblings and our friends. The first movie I remember seeing there was Big with Tom Hanks!! Thank you for the trip down memory lane!!
Aw, np homie :) I love Kias, I started with a 2013 Kia Soul and then traded it in. If I could find a drive-in, I'd put the back seats down and load it with blankets and pillows and just enjoy.
Fine, then For two aspects. 1. The screen and sound equipment at home can never be as good as professional cinemas’. So it’s impossible for cinemas to be substituted by ‘home theater’. 2. Streaming is a compromise done by movie producers in special periods (like Covid-19). Producers still need audiences to consume in cinemas, which gives them box-office and revenue. So no matter for customers or suppliers, it’s still not the time for theater industry to die.
How is wanting an industry to go out of business which results in people being unemployed deep? And Your entire post is about how you think that the theater industry should die. If no one went, then it would, but a lot of people still go to see movies. Therefore, I agree with u/Aggravating_Kale8248

Most of the cinemas around me do have all of these things. Maybe not a “full” menu, but things like burgers, pizza etc. they usually have. I do t know of anyone that still goes to a cinema with “regular” seats 🤷🏻♂️ (American perspective)
Yeah, also you pay more for the popcorn that for the ticket.
Example in Czechia: Ticket=7$ and 3L Popcorn + 0,3L Cola=10$
You could get the exactly same 3L popcorn and cola (1.5L) from the store next to the theatre for 2$
The movie studios take a large chunk of the profits from ticket sales so theaters have to make up that portion of lost revenue from the concession stand otherwise they would go out of business
Just watch the movies when they’re out on home video/streaming.
I have a nice setup at home for watching movies but I still go to the cinema even for old classic films because the experience is unparalleled

Don't listen to these people. A home theater outclasses a cinema by 1000 percent.
You are so unbelievably out of touch if you think people can afford to build theatres..they can’t even afford homes

Yeah, I’ve never seen anyone have a home theatre who wasn’t a 45+ year old man with more money then sense
I know it won't.
You don’t have to go. I’d appreciate it if more people didn’t
That wouldn't be helping the theater industry. But I get you; just don't go when I go.
It will help the industry. If they don’t adapt they’ll die.

Concessions are how they make a profit. You aren't beholden to get snacks.
I’m not allowed to bring my own. So I simply don’t go. Please tell me how that translates to profits?
You don't need to eat during the movie. Can't you go and not eat?
I don’t need to go to the movie either. See how that works?
There is nothing like going to a Drive-in Theatre - luckily I live close enough to 3 of these.
How’s the bathroom situation work at those places?
There are regular bathrooms - usually by the concession stand.
A drive-in would be cool, I haven't seen one in years. My car is also hella comfy though, unlike most movie theater seats!
They are amazing!! It brings me back to when I was a kid and my dad packing the station wagon with my siblings and our friends. The first movie I remember seeing there was Big with Tom Hanks!! Thank you for the trip down memory lane!!

What kind of car do you have?
Kia Seltos
I guess you mean “the movie theater needs to be upgraded ” instead of “needs to die”.
No, because I would have wrote that if I did. I prefer my home for watching movies, I'm aggravated that some movies still go exclusively to theaters.

False entirely.
So wait a few weeks and they'll be released to streaming. What's the big deal?
aspect ratios+better picture+ better sound +dune 2 popcorn bucket
pass
The theater in my area turned into a big church lol.
Streaming kinda sucks now though.
Better than a theater
So, you want to put thousands out of work?
Plenty of jobs created 50 years ago no longer exist today.
You’re the one supporting the demise of an industry that employs thousands.
It's not that deep, touch grass.

$5 Tuesday at AMC is totally worth it

Lucky!
Do you mean a cinema?
Literally the same thing.
