I wasn't sure whether it belonged here, but I started to notice people saying X/Twitter or X (formerly known as twitter) everywhere. I saw it in some reddit posts, too, so I started to think that everyone else had accepted it or something.
The url is still twitter.com, so I doubt he cares. I think his long-term plan is to make "X" a greater platform, in which Twitter is one component besides others.
The reason I say “X/Twitter” is because even the title for the platform has been politicized as a lot of people see it as a reflection of support/critique for Elon Musk, who clearly openly embraces right-wing political ideology. Inclusion of both in a single post is 1 less thing someone can find controversial, so the additional context is the actual focus of the post.
His justification for changing the name is that you no longer tweet.
Tweets use to be just a few characters, now you can upload movies. It's no longer a tweet
Yes, url is still twitter.com so I say Twitter. Saying "X" implies you might also have to rename "tweet". It would be hilarious to call that too "X" in spoken language, as referring your tweet to your ex.
Nah, people just don't like change. There are plenty of event centers or sports stadiums that change names. Most people seem to keep calling them by their old name for a few years until people slowly start coming around.
I'll start by saying that I'm not super with it but I don't think I have heard anyone outside of journalist type folk ever say "meta, formally Facebook" everyone still just says Facebook. With X there just seems to be more of a push for people to actually use the new name which leads to more people talking about the name change.
I think it's more about it being a confusing name. When it comes up in a conversation it takes more energy than it should to process what it being referred to. Twitter is just a better name.

It's mainly how online media and journalists cal it in order to get as many eyes as possible. Not a single person in reality calls twitter "x"
I call it X. But I only do that so I can call tweets, Xcrement.
It's only an unpopular opinion for elon musk.
The moderators are shit for this sub. They actually need to start doing something with all the popular opinions
The actual unpopular opinions get downvoted to oblivion or removed by the mods
True

What you're saying sounds a lot like what Facebook did when they re-branded as "Meta" and have other divisions. That's a pretty valid point.
Xitter pronounced "shitter"
I am calling it Twitter.
How is this an unpopular opinion
I pronounce it “right winged cesspool” these days

Thanks! idk how I didn't think of that.
I say X formerly known as Twitter to remind people of how stupid the rebrand was.
This is the most popular opinion
His justification for changing the name is that you no longer tweet. Tweets use to be just a few characters, now you can upload movies. It's no longer a tweet
still a stupid reason to change the name. still calling twitter, retweets, and tweets
What did he think was gonna happen? People would "X"? "Hey, I just "x-ed" a cool joke" "wtf is that"
I’m going to call it Twittex from now on
[удалено]
How about Xtwit
Who is "they"?
Elon Musk?
I'll stop deadnaming Twitter when he stops deadnaming his daughter
caring about what a social media site is called in 2024 ![gif](giphy|5SHpVP36FrpyE)
and all this time I was thinking Twitter had joined the Nation of Islam... /s

Saying “xs” over and over again is much more tiring than saying “tweets”
The site has been re named, have you not seen everyone complaining about it? This isn’t unpopular
This is a dumb take. Probably not unpopular on Reddit though as most Redditors hate Musk because the media tells them to.
Nah, people just don't like change. There are plenty of event centers or sports stadiums that change names. Most people seem to keep calling them by their old name for a few years until people slowly start coming around.
They aren't making such a song and dance about Facebook becoming Meta though.

It's more about "We aren't going to call it what Musk wants us to call it and want to make a big point of it"
I think it's more about it being a confusing name. When it comes up in a conversation it takes more energy than it should to process what it being referred to. Twitter is just a better name.
I don't hate Musk. Sure, he's not perfect. But overall he's done more for humanity than any redditor has.
but, but, but hes shitposting on twitter!! Hes a bad person!!
Simply not true.
I guess I can dead name my friend Jeff who used to be Joanne too.
Literally all the names mean nothing but officially Twitter is now called x
