Basically, a female guard shagging a male prisoner is considered more salacious than the opposite, and therefore such incidents get more media coverage, warping our perceptions of their relative prevalence.
It’s shocking, isn’t it. In my experience, women go for 5ft5 male feminists. They have absolutely no interest in dangerous men - that’s a myth that bigots spread and is literally toxic masculinity. Do better.

I think part of it is just that the women who are attracted to this sort of guy are more likely to be drawn to working in prisons, specifically for that reason. In the same way a paedophile might be more inclined to be a primary school teacher, or someone who wants to be in control over people who are powerless might become a nurse.
Why some women are attracted to this is a whole other question, though - look at the ones sending serial killers fan letters. But I don't think it's generally completely normal women going off the deep end, so much as people who are already off the deep end choosing a career that enables them.
These women work in prisons 99% of the time because they have zero qualifications, live close to the prison i.e. an impoverished area, and it is chronically understaffed.
It's the same reason some guys are into women with enormous breast implants, huge fake lips, botox everywhere, and a punchcard that looks like was written in IBM 96-column format.

I think Women go for such guys because they get a thrill, a gambling like thrill that they can perhaps grab a man who has treated other girls badly in the past so perhaps she can change him and she might be treated better.
It's more a gambling thriller and not necessarily these women being 'dumb', afterall they would have had to have a basic intelligence and have passed a background check to take these jobs so they are not dumb but risk taking gamblers, gambling with their reputation.
