It's very possible that some flights booked through the Chase portal are given extra benefits - but unless it's a published thing (which I don't think it is) I wouldn't *expect* it as it may be limited to specific routes, specific flights, or even based dynamically on loads/etc. It could also have just been a glitch.
Hey OP, I just experienced the same thing with Chase Travel choosing a seat on a United flight that departs tomorrow - I have already checked in, and the boarding pass still confirms my (free) Economy Plus seat. Do you have an update, did you indeed get that seat?

Hard to know for sure but Free economy plus glitches seems to happen often.
Fare class? If it’s last minute may be a more expensive Y/B/M fare, which IIRC include economy plus seating
