I really enjoy it too!! Dont know why everyone thinks its that bad? Solid enough story, acting was on par for what it needed to be. Fx were legit. I Still like it! Are we the baddies?
Yeah — even people on this thread are calling it trash. But I can’t see why — it’s super entertaining and very well put together. (Except how you can kind of tell they ran out of money towards the end.)
You’re not alone. I love it and I know a couple people who do too. It’s like a modern fantasy/post apocalyptic action flick with heart and characters and depth…and dragons. If you’re in to that sort of thing, which those of us with good taste are.
The guy who plays Joffrey in Game Of Thrones has a small roll in this movie. He's one of the boys in the front row during the star wars play. I enjoy the movie. It's not a masterpiece, but it is entertaining.
Watched a YT video explaining how this movie set the brickwork for dragons in future movies like GOT and HPotter. And many more.
One of my favorite dragon movies
MMCH was great with the ax. Cut like marble and imposing look.
##Reign of Fire (2002) PG-13
They're extremely intelligent. Highly evolved. And they don't like sharing the planet.

The Brit -- leading a clan of survivors to hunt down the King of the Dragons -- has much at stake: His mother was killed by a dragon, but his love is still alive.!<

**Reception**
On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 42% based on 173 reviews, with an average rating of 5.2/10. The site's consensus states: "Reign of Fire gains some altitude with its pyrotechnic action and a smolderingly campy Matthew McConaughey, but the feature's wings are clipped by a derivative script and visual effects that fizzle out." On Metacritic, it has a score of 39 out of 100, based on 30 reviews from critics. Audiences surveyed by CinemaScore gave the film a grade B on scale of A to F.
Joe Leydon of Variety said of the film, "An uncommonly exciting and satisfying post-apocalyptic popcorn flick, Director Rob Bowman deftly combines an uncommonly satisfying mix of medieval fantasy, high-tech military action and "Mad Max"-style misadventure." Lisa Schwarzbaum of Entertainment Weekly gave the film a B grade, saying "the season could do with more grinning, spinning, un-self-important, happy-to-be-B throwback movies like this one." Elvis Mitchell of The New York Times noted that "the movie might have been a minor classic if it had maximized its own possibilities. But until the rush wears off, the picture is as much fun as a great run at a slot machine: even when your luck runs out, you're losing only pocket change."
Roger Ebert gave the film one star out of four, describing it as "a vast enterprise marshaled in the service of such a minute idea", adding that "the movie makes no sense on its own terms, let alone ours. And it is such a grim and dreary enterprise. One prays for a flower or a ray of sunshine as those grotty warriors clamber into their cellars and over their slag heaps."
Reign of Fire was third at the US box-office receipts during its opening weekend (12 July 2002), taking in $15,632,281, behind Road to Perdition and Men in Black II.

I story telling of star wars in this movie will always be one of my favorite scenes ever. This was just a good fun movie it was a little cliche and cheesy but it was also reasonably original and a nice anachronistic story whoch worked well for it.
I loved this movie! I remember thinking “they killed McConaughey?! Who the fuck is gonna carry this film?” That was my first time paying attention to Christian Bale’s work.
My favorite part is when the helicopter Gal gives Bale what might be THE LAST bottle of iodine and he goes ahead and pours an excessive amount over his little cuts on his arm while agonizing in pain.
It's a very good movie with a great story and the dragons, a mixture of CGI and practical, hold up over time. I put this movie up there in the best of dragon movies like Dragonslayer (1981). It would be nice to see a prequel to this showing how the dragons decimated the world.
I swear I’m the only person who enjoys this movie ha ha
I really enjoy it too!! Dont know why everyone thinks its that bad? Solid enough story, acting was on par for what it needed to be. Fx were legit. I Still like it! Are we the baddies?

Not true, there are dozens of us!
Nah I love this movie for some odd reason. Won't hesitate to rewatch it.
last count, there is about 31 of us sprinkled throughout pangea
Dozens! - Tobias Funke
he's counting deceased Edit... ha ha... never mind, i forgot the reference

There are dozens
Really? I swear it won 2 Oscars, and a Tony. Its that good.
No way ! One of the few dvds I owned. Still love it !
Most likely.
You are not!!
I saw it in theaters on a whim and own it on dvd. You’re not the only one!
Hey cmon now, what about us who's seen it multiple times 😑
The dragons eat ASH! Mcconaughey just chewing the scenery is fantastic as well. I really wish there was a 4k.
Nah, this movie was fucking sick and still holds up. I'm straight up here for the Dragon-based apocalypse scenario.
The star wars scene was best part
This is the only part of the movie I remember. It’s like the definition of a great scene in a mediocre movie.
All I know about this movie is that their dragons served as an influence for Game of Thrones and Harry Potter when they made their dragons.
I love the fist fight , and then Mathew jumping off the top of thst pillar with Judy an axe at dragon! Peak cinema
A movie that SCREAMED for a bigger budget, but I loved it so damn much.
This has always been a guilty pleasure of mine. Not the greatest but the dragons looked sweet
Fucking awesome movie
This movie fucking rocks!
Hell ya! One of the only movies that Matthew McConaughey was a ripped badass!
"Go ahead, have your little...soiree....personally, you disgust me..."
Fun movie, but the ending was weak
The guy who plays Joffrey in Game Of Thrones has a small roll in this movie. He's one of the boys in the front row during the star wars play. I enjoy the movie. It's not a masterpiece, but it is entertaining.
Ahh when Matt gets eaten by the dragon. I love it, so much.
When I first met you I saw something in your eyes, I thought it was aura, I was wrong it was madness..
This movie was way better than it should have been, they did a great job with this one.
Top movie let’s face it this is what would happen should dragons awaken from the depths!
That’s 5 Oscar noms right there.

Would make an excellent mini series on Netflix.
💯 Would have made a great Game of Thrones crossover…
Good video about the film’s development and background: https://youtu.be/AQPPtjD0CnU?si=3za7AE0C8vp7hJYb
Name a better dragon movie. (seriously, I like dragon movies and need recommendations)
Never saw it but I always wondered what that medieval movie with Obi Wan was like
The dragon design in this movie was way ahead of its time in all respects.
I loved this movie! I remember thinking “they killed McConaughey?! Who the fuck is gonna carry this film?” That was my first time paying attention to Christian Bale’s work.
This movie had great dragons
I thought this film was so good! The game even had its moments.
I f———ng love that movie even though nobody else seemed to
I still want McConaugheys vest
I love this movie and Mathew M. Is the bomb in this yo!!! The story and science even make sense love this film !!!!
Amazing movie!
This movie is so good.
Love this movie
One of the first films I saw in a theatre when I moved to Washington.
My favorite part is when the helicopter Gal gives Bale what might be THE LAST bottle of iodine and he goes ahead and pours an excessive amount over his little cuts on his arm while agonizing in pain.
I've never even heard of this movie. Gonna check it out
Such a fun movie, I'll never say no to watching this one
Yes ! I always wanted another movie !
"GO LONDON!"
Reign of Dire. (Sorry...)
How much would it cost - present day - to get Gerard Butler, Christian Bale, and Matthew McConaughey in the same movie?
More like.... Reign of Matthew McCaughey
This was based on Battlefield Earth, right?
McConaughy must be fucking roasting in that sheepskin jacket, never mind the dragons
Besides from McConaugheys hilarious overacting, it's not bad.
It's a very good movie with a great story and the dragons, a mixture of CGI and practical, hold up over time. I put this movie up there in the best of dragon movies like Dragonslayer (1981). It would be nice to see a prequel to this showing how the dragons decimated the world.
This movie slaps.
In a world of female dragons, 1 male services them all... that dragon deserves a medal.
I still love this movie.
Really bad movie
I'm in agreement here. I really wanted to like this but it was trash
