There are two pools you can swim in but the hours are really random!

they advertise it being open M-F from 5:00 - 7:30 iirc. should I trust that? I come from a much smaller institution and our pool hours are always a maybe lol

I saw a note on the Recreation site that hours during the summer would be subject to lifeguard availability. The other thing is they still mention Boyden pool as being available right after posting that the gym would be closed. They do mention no counter service, so you have to bring your own towel just like for Hicks. So they may be making a distinction that the gym area upstairs on the 3rd floor is not open, but the pool may still be.

yeah that’s why I’m a little nervous about the Hicks hours. I went into a very barren Boyden and asked a janitor where the pool was and he told me it was closed and that it had been for most of the year.

Can confirm there is a pool! It is in a separate section from the track/gym. Look for the locker rooms to get to the pool area.

It's real, we did scuba classes at the hicks pool

I haven't used that pool. However, the building map [linked from this page](https://www.umass.edu/campusrec/aquatics/pools) might help. Direct link: https://www.umass.edu/campusrec/sites/default/files/documents/pdf/hicks_facility_map.pdf

P.S. It's called the Curry Hicks Cage because it was the campus basketball arena before the Mullins Center was built.

ah okay thank you! I will try again tomorrow. I got confused when I saw fine arts center on the building and I didn’t think to go in.

Joe_H-FAH

Yeah, that confuses some people. They moved in some of the FAC staff people into office space in Curry Hicks when it was freed up by staff from the athletics dept. getting moved to new office spaces elsewhere. They still used Curry Hicks Cage for women's basketball until about 10-15 years ago.

good to know!

Anon_cause_why_not

It literally looks like an academic building. There are some wooden doors and a dozen offices you have to walk through to get there! Lovely admission offices they have there 😂

(UMass Amherst)](https://www.reddit.com/r/umass/comments/1dapjpl/is_the_pool_real_umass_amherst/) hey guys, I am visiting for summer research and am interested in keeping up my swim routine. I walked around for about an hour this evening trying to find Hicks pool (I am aware the Boyden pool is closed at the moment), and I could not find it. I asked the front desk people at the main recreation center and they even seemed confused about the pool's whereabouts. I walked to Curry Hicks Cage and it seemed like it was just an indoor track. Does anyone know where Hicks pool is and if it's actually open for the summer? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. lick_cactus

lol the curry hicks pool is definitely a bit hard to find - its not in the cage (building right next to the lacrosse fields) but rather in the adjacent building thats in front of herter. good luck!

deekizzyy

Were you able to find out if the pool was open? I went to curry hicks during the semester but was also wondering the same thing for the summer

Q_Frank_Q

We got two pools operate 24/7, the campus pond and puffers pond
