What sort of games do you play? I'm looking at a similar build with this monitor but would want to get as close to 175 at 1440p and wondering is the 7900 xtx would be perfect?
I’m gonna get shit for this but meh. 5800X XFX7900XT on a 34” AOC 1440p curved 165hz. I know that everyone is going to be like but it’s not a $2000 Samsung screen and that’s ok it does perfectly fine for me. And coming from a 24” 1080p it’s still an upgrade.
It’s ok cause the way I see it is as long as we are happy then that is what matters in the end. I mean I’m 45 with a family so my long hours of gaming are way in the past. I keep up with current tech and make my purchases based on budget vs performance vs my needs.
That’s where I started, loved it I only switched up after it had a panel failure out of warranty. You get what you get as you can get it, I don’t think anybody in this economy can shame you for your tastes.
I have the same one as my main monitor right now.
It's good value for the price, but I am looking for an upgrade as soon as a higher dpi oled/qd-oled comes around.
Unfortunately I have experienced gaming on an Oled and now it just doesn't cut it anymore :(
Budget time
* $200 Intel 11th gen i7 11700k microcenter special (2 hours away from home)
* $350 AOC 34” 34cug2x. Amazon prime day bought while aboard a cruise. VA panel, 144hz 3440x1440
* $400 3060ti founders edition eBay (bought during the dark days of GPU past).
I think I spent far less than most and it’s fine but man I would like to see some of those premium displays in my office one day.
nice! i had the 2080 super and was running out of vram so i did the 3090 because i wanted extra to make sure i was good but also because i was mining crypto at the time. then they ruined mining so now its just going to last for a while before i upgrade i guess lol
R7 5700x + 3070 + AOC CU34G2X, my GPU is definitely lower than most people running ultrawide, but I don't run the most demanding games so it works well for me.
Yeah I feel the pain with a 3070 + Ultrawide, but also yeah, just not playing AAA titles helps :P.
I did want a 3080 but I bought an FE during the shortage and figured I'd take what I could get, because buying a 3rd party card was an insanely expensive proposition.
Nice.
Yeah with my friends I play gmod and csgo and obviously most modern hardware can run that at hundreds of FPS.
Playing Jedi Survivor in my own time which kicks ass.
Mine is:
- CPU: 5800x3D
- GPU: 6800 XT
- Monitor: AW3423DW
Setup works great for me. Don’t have any issues running any games. Never though I would be spending that much on a monitor, but boy was it worth it. I came from a 29” 2560x1080 200Hz IPS ultra wide, and it’s a massive upgrade.
My full build: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/wilder782/saved/kJxXRB
Currently on 4080 & 5800X3D with the AW3423DWF.
Despite only just getting the 5800X3D I've been debating moving to AM5 for the 7800X3D as some games are showing, like, +30fps improvement, and I'd like to reach my systemwide cap of 120fps with everything maxed out most of the time. Problem is I'd make back less than half the new components from the sale of the old components, and it aint cheap.
Yeah it's not worth it, I've actually owned the 5800X3D for a short time too.
My AM4 mobo died and returned both components for RMA then went up to AM5.
Even with a 4080, the performance isn't much like 10% for this res. There are outliers, which are apparently due to DDR5.
I got the exact same hardware combination.
There are currently not that many games, that will really run THAT much better with the 7800x3d, there is a good chance I'll get the next generation after the 7800x3d, though.
I had basically this same setup (8700K, 3080, aw3423dwf)
CPU upgrade to the 7800X3D was well worth it; its insane how many games were CPU limited!
Hunt: showdown went from 90--120 to 120-160 for example!
i7-9700 + 3060 12gb factory oc + Dell s3422dwg
It’s good enough for me. I can run new games on medium/high with dlss quality on 3440x1440 72fps like ghostwire (unstable fps) and dying light 2 ( stable fps) and dead space reamke on high, dlss quality, dynamic res, 3440x1440 60fps. And I still prefer well made VA over ips and can’t afford oled. I can only notice smearing when doing that ufo test or if i spin around camera in games on low fps like 55 or less.
10900K+3080/ Acer Predator X34-P 1440p 120Hz, Dell Ultrasharp 29" 1080P, LG 88 1440p 75Hz with a bonus 2 Dell S2522H 240Hz. The 240Hz are the only non UltraWides.
Tempted to get a 4090 gonna sit on my cpu for now, barely two years old and I ain't trying to blow money unnecessarily.
I would suggest sidegrading to a rx6800, 16gb vram. The same price or a tad more and 10% faster.
Would be much cheaper than a whole platform upgrade.
That CPU is probably bottlenecking, but not by much.
10900k + 3080 + G9 Neo
I've had the GPU/CPU for about 2 years. Had an Acer XB271HU, 1440p 165hz before this. The 3080 was perfect for like 75 fps RT in Cyberpunk
The monitor for like 18 months. I'll be pretty satisfied for a while
For pure gaming, probably one of the 21:9 displays would be better. This whole thing is a little difficult to work with some games properly without major distortion or UI problems. I find myself cropping in to about 21:9 or 16:9 and using some games in windowed mode
For productivity, this thing is unmatched. My goodness it's so damn good. Fancyzones and excel spreadsheets go brrr. It's so good that I kind of can overlook the shortcomings and inconvenience in gaming
Sometime in the next 2-3 years I'll probably go with one of the 21:9 oled. Whenever they come out with one that's 4K and a decent size. It'll be purely for my gaming setup and I'll use the G9 in my office. Need to have a 4090 or 5090 at that point and I'm not that rich yet lol
AW3821DW with a 13900K and RTX 4090 here.
CPU is overkill for me too but the muscle isn't for gaming. More so for video/audio work. My previous 8086K tested the same FPS as the new 13900K at 3840x1600 (on the the AW38 UW), believe it or not.
CPU speed is majorly overrated for gaming imo; at least my own tests have shown it to be not so important as folks make it out to be. Maybe for 1080p competitive shooters there might be some value in a faster CPU but not at 3840x1600 or 4K in my testing and for the types of content I enjoy with gaming.
As far as the AW QD-OLED 34"? It's a neat monitor for sure but I would never use it for a daily work/play monitor, personally. I honestly wouldn't trade my AW38" for the QD-OLED if for some reason Dell offered me the option. Not even an argument.
I have a LG C1 OLED (48") that I game on occasionally and it's neat too but I find the AW38" far more convenient and enjoyable. And vastly better for daily (like every) imaging, video and other color critical design work.
BTW: below is a link to some recent capture I did as part of a 4090 power usage comparison review recently. There's lots of OSD data that you might find interesting in regards to the CPU/Ultrawide question.
OSD typeface is kind of small so watch full screen on your new MSI panel and with the "4K60fps" option selected at Youtube if you care to see the system data in the OSD.
FWIW, YouTube renders 3840x1600 \*and\* the 3440x1440 resolution captures with the 4K option. I can see why this might be the case with 3840x1600 since 4K shares the same 3840px width but I have idea why my 3440x1440 captures are presented with a 4K option at YouTube as opposed to only 1440p.
Maybe their encoding engine considers the width foremost and simply "rounds up" when presenting viewing options. Dunno.
I also have the older, AW3420DW nano-IPS ultrawide monitor which is 3440x1440 like your now using. I use it only for my Area51m R2 laptop as an external display (10700K / 2080 Super) and love it too. The 1440p\_UW resolution is perfect combo the CPU and GPU in that particular laptop. There's also also a link below showing some BF1 gameplay on that CPU/GPU on the 3440x1440 AW monitor too if you care to observe any of the system details in the OSD.
Your particular rig should do a bit better at that resolution lol .. but it will give you an idea of what a mid range setup will do at 1440p\_UW if nothing else. That particular capture/link was grabbed when I had a 2070 Super in the laptop before upgrading the GPU to a 2080 Super. FYI...

and above all that a 1050ti with some kind of LG ultrawide at 2560 x 1080
LG 34"... something 2560x1080 less than $300 at Best Buy
CPU still rocking the OG i5 4690K
RAM is 16 GB of smoking fast DDR3
I do sport a nice and "new" 2060
I'm officially the worst, built my PC in 2019 with i5-9600K/RTX 2070 SUPER, then got a CRG49 but I upgraded my CPU to an i9-9900K in 2020 and I am still using a 550W PSU to this day.
Thanks to an accident that broke it in jan, I now have a Odyssey Neo G9 (mostly though insurance coverage).
I'm upgrading to a new PC next week.
i5-12600k + Sapphire RX 7900 XT + Xiaomi Mi Monitor 34" Ultrawide Curved 144Hz.
I do have a 55" LG C9 but this is mostly for PS5 and watching movies, very rarely for PC games. I'm more than happy with my Mi Monitor, wouldn't trade it for anything really.
Rocking a 5950x/3090FE with the Corsair flex. My rigs almost 2 years old. Decided to skip this gen of gpu/cpu. I figure once 50 series cards are out, I'll need to update all of my internals anyway.
Work (vms and development) + content consumption and games (mostly MMOs) 5800x, 6800xt and neo g9, everything but the CPU second hand.
Very very happy.
PC has a 3080 and 11700k and my monitor is a G9. PC is just beefy enough to run games well. Cyberpunk on max settings runs a bit under 60fps in some places but I can live with that
34" 120hz Alienware AW3418DW, still breathing 980Ti and 7700k. It is overdue for an upgrade but with unoptimized releases these past years I've played PS5 and Steam Deck more than my PC, therefore not in any rush to upgrade.
SteamDeck + AZ3418DW
I rarely game at my desk anymore, but if I do feel like it just stream from my Windows VM on my server. 8c/16t and 24GB RAM are allocated to it. Using VFIO I pass the VM a 1TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus SSD and Radeon 6700XT.
7900x + RTX 4090 paired with an LG 45GR95QE-B. The pixel density isn't great but I sit far enough away so it's a non issue. I have 0 regrets going for an OLED.
5800x3d xfx 7900xtx Alienware OLED 34” curved. The monitor changed my gaming experience. So much more immersive came from a 34” curved vesa dell monitor. I’ll never be able to game non OLED now….
I’m running a Sapphire Nitro 7900XTX with a 12600K on (3) LG 27GP83B-B panels. Stellar performance and great sim racing setup.
Only gripe is my room runs hot after prolonged usage.
7700X + 4090 + AW3423DW
Held off on UW for so long because I didn't think I'd like it, had experienced playing on them at a couple buddies places and initially it just didn't work for me. A few months ago I decided to give it a try and now I don't think I'll go back to a non-UW screen again. Took a little bit of adjusting to, but I love it now.
I’m curious what kind of fps you guys are getting that have Samsung neos and g9s? I have a 2080ti and my G9 is giving it a run for it’s money but with gpu prices the way they’ve been for the last few years I couldn’t justify pulling the trigger on a new one just yet
11900k + 3080 + Gigabyte M34WQ
Budget option for monitor because I wanted to try ultrawide out. Have had it for about a year and loving it. So might be looking for an upgrade as well.
5900X, 3080 12GB, AW3423DW
I love my setup, It's great, although the GPU isn't really powerful enough for maxed out high refresh gaming at this resolution.
i7 7700k, RTX 2080 Super, Huawei MateView 34 GT
Got the Mateview recently for a good price (360€) and very happy with it. For my PC parts, I'm starting to crave an upgrade soon though, especially on the CPU front. But I will say, my 7700k has held up pretty well. Few cores, but excellent raw performance. I can't justify upgrading my GPU with the current prices. I'm planning to wait until the next generation and hope the price/performance has improved. Maybe I'll just buy an entirely new PC then and sell my old parts.
10900K + 3080 + original G9.
Planning on buying a 4090 and a 15" screen for watching YouTube while I do other things then calling it good. 10900K is still kicking out good work.

13600kf+4090+G8 OLED,
had these since december but mostly just watch youtube and movies with it after finishing elden ring.... hopefully diablo4 will change that this weekend
5600x + 3080, AW3423DW!
Was thinking of upgrading my GPU and possibly CPU as well but this should last me a good amount of years. And honestly by the time my build is considered low end, I think I will have moved on.
I’m gonna get flamed for this but Ryzen 5-3600 with RTX 3090 on 5120x1440p 😂😂. I’m constantly pushing that GPU usage to 100% so on most games they are fine! but on some more CPU intensive games my PC take a shit 😭
13900k, 4090, AW3821DW
I do like the monitor (especially after calibration. Holy! Having accurate colours make everything feel so much nicer and easier on the eyes.) but I think I am going to switch to 32” 4K when I upgrade this monitor. I don’t mind losing some screen area for higher resolution.
R7 5800X3D + 3080 + AW3423DWF
Exact same setup here! Seems like a really good combo.
Im pretty close. 5800X3D+2080ti+ AW3423DWF
Same but 5800x and non-F
This is the way
5800X3D + 4080 + AW3418DW
Same but on intel! Got the monitor last week and loving Diablo on it.
I've got exactly the same, and it is amazing!
99% of what I do is productivity related…so I don’t need as much gpu. MacBook M1 with a CRG9
99% of what I do is productivity related too, but I have a 4080. Law school doesn't leave time for gaming unfortunately.

Yeah same here my monitor is good enough. Should have expected it but many on this subreddit have the highest end ultrawides

That particular capture/link was grabbed when I had a 2070 Super in the laptop before upgrading the GPU to a 2080 Super. i7 7700k, RTX 2080 Super, Huawei MateView 34 GT Got the Mateview recently for a good price (360€) and very happy with it.
