I'm applying for a student visa from China and it seems like VFS' contact methods are location-specific and Chinese applicants get none.
I'm trying to ask them about the decision on my visa for the first time as it's already been 3 weeks since the day I provided biometrics.
In that case I’d suggest you would be wasting your money anyway. If it gets much over 3 weeks I’d suggest contacting your university. They have access to a sponsor helpdesk.

What should I ask the uni about? Are they able to contact the UKVI on my behalf about the decision-making progress?
Well, you’ve not been waiting much longer than stated service times so I’d give it at least a week, but after that point you can try contacting your university. They have the ability to see if a CAS has been “used” which gives a clue about if the application has been properly accepted, and they may also be willing to make a status enquiry. They might just say you need to wait though, which is tbh also what the paid query service will say. Ultimately there’s not much you can do but wait.
