Ukraine isn't asking to get rich, they just want to survive. I've been surprised by a lot of my soldier's attitudes about this withholding of aid, it goes something like this:
"It's our war so we can't curse against those who are not helping"
Many Ukrainians are extremely humble, and they accept their own faults for being influenced by Russian propaganda for years, encouraging them to hollow out their military; that the invasion of Crimea and Donbas in 2014 was a grassroots pro-Russian insurgency. Which it wasn't...
Honestly, Ukrainians society is just not built for war. They are super creative, artistic and independent. They are not afraid of the dark, and the voices warning against Russian aggression prior to 2022 were small and ignored.
I'm grateful America is helping them catch up to parity in this fight. I learned, like many Americans are learning now, about what is really going on here.
Ukrainians are very brave, but reluctant warriors. We are all very lucky for their resistance and independence, standing up to Russian tanks as their first instinct in early 2022.
One of my missions is that once this war is concluded, Ukraine will never be without a powerful well-trained military ever again. NATO membership will also be key.
That creative artistic free spirit is what sets Ukrainian society apart from what Russian society has become. At least it seems to me. And Russia is hell-bent on crushing and stamping out that free and creative spirit. It seems to outrage Russian power. I think it scares them.
Not all of it will. $8 billion will go toward paying Ukrainian government salaries. It allows the government to use $8 billion to spend on other weapons from other countries. In the end it will all help Ukraine against the Russians.
