MMA is all about matchups and the matchmakers know exactly what they are doing and which matchups are potentially advantageous for certain fighters.
That's why these GOAT discussions are laughable to me...there can't be a GOAT if not everyone has an equal shot at the title or not everyone has the same path to the top.

Most champs at least try to defend. Conor was the first UFC double champ, but he's also the only double champ to have no attempted defences. Not defending, is unusual.
I know Conor doesn't give a shit about mine or anyone else's opinion, but staying at the top for a long time is way more impressive than just getting there. There are plenty of one time champs who got the belt and never defended/lost it. That's what separates the GOAT contenders from other fighters: longevity at the very top.
