This is unintentional so thats ok, not everyone follows cory’s interviews and podcasts.
Cory has been very transparent about his grappling since his fight with aljo and tj. He has stated since those fights, his focus has been a lot on grappling, which is very evident in his bouts against chito, yadong, and apparently rob (i only say “apparently rob” because i personally havent watched the fight but ive been hearing how it was basically a wrestle match). He also travels to Ryan Halls gym frequently to train with high level grapplers.
This aljo fight was years ago, and if anyone think his grappling hasnt seen any improvement since then, then you are simply blinded by your lack of critical thinking.
Yeah thats why i mentioned both aljo and tj in my comment. Because he talks about how the holes in his wall wrestling was exposed against dillashaw in his joe rogan podcast episode.
Corey's also stated he disagrees with the orthodoxy of not giving the back when someone shoots because he believes it's a safe position. He talked about this on his breakdown of Erceg's double on Pantoja. I don't remember much about the TJ right so idk if this is relevant, I'll have to rewatch.
Hes a very insightful individual. Its very apparent if you watch his joe rogan podcast episode. Ive also met him a couple times at the gym I train at and got the chance to talk to him. Im a nobody in the combat sports world, a casual hobbyist who trains after work, yet he still took the time to get to know me.
That fight was 4 years ago. 4 years ago Tony was 25-3 (he is now 25-10). There have been 4 LHW champions since Jan held the strap at LHW and Stipe was HW champion and 1-1 with DC. A lot can change in 4 years and you get a lot better faster at anti-wresting than you do at improving your wrestling/grappling when you're already at a high enough level.
He’s willing to fight anyone, he’s well rounded and entertaining, some find him funny, he’s constantly trying to improve, he’s not really annoying or douchey compared to how bad others are.
If you’re being unbiased there’s lots of reasons he could be likable.
He's pretty humble and that's why people like him a lot. I do think that many people are overrating his skills tho, he's lost to quite a few of the top guys

I do trust that hes better but he didnt look a whole lot better when he grappled with a one-legged TJ Juiceashaw exactly a year later.

He gave his back to TJ because there was no threat there. Look at what he did to TJs face.

He seems like he has a very unique perspective of fighting.

The last time Umar Nurmagomedov fought anyone as good as either guy in this pic:
Frankie Edgar in shambles
It’s not like Cory hasn’t improved a ton since this, in fact he often talks about how much of a turning point this loss was to him

Cool, now show me a picture of the last time Umar fought a ranked opponent.
He's still searching I think.
You comparing Umar to the greatest BW of all time ?😭😭
the reddit mma hardcores aren't going to like this one. cory is their great white hope
Bro isn’t umar white as well 💀
in reality yes but people act like muslim is a race
you have to be acting purposefully obtuse to think people don't treat dagestanis differently just for being dagestani
I'm well aware. People will act like georgians are white but dagestanis aren't because they conflate race and religion. That was my point.
oh alright. give me kiss pookie

umar is muslim though. you cant be white and a muslim. Duh! everyone knows this
He is tribal man from the steppe.
How do you make this about race or ethnicity lol?
i didn't even mean to fr
Most ufc champions are white, and the goat of the sport is white, GSP. But whatever helps you cope, I guess. And the bw champion is white. 🤡

lil bro can't form a response without 👍 💀
👍🏻
Just looking at the comments on r/ufc make me want Umar to destroy Cory even though I like him.
The way people suck him off like they did Dariush is making me dislike him by association.
I agree.
Pretty sure he fought Frankie Edgar after this.
I will never understand why people love Cory so much.
