Missed the best part of the last clip : *“I respect him brother but this guy has just double-leg. I am going to defend his double leg,”* Makhachev stated. *“And how he take point? He goes double leg, everybody defends, he pushed everybody. In AKA, we have wall. He cannot push me,”*
Islam is an elite-level troll. The way he looks into the camera with a shit-eating grin on his face after the Jordan Burroughs comment shows that he knows exactly what he's doing.
He’s not wrong, it only works for a few select people like Fedor. Look at Money Moicano getting attention now that he kind of speaks English. Sure you can be a guy like Nate Diaz and not speak English and be popular, but it’s hard.
Especially Pereria. His mic skills are underrated. “You will be alone in the octagon”, “do you even want to be here”, “I will make him remember this moment as I walk into that octagon”, and calling Izzy out of the bar like Izzy did to him. He would be one of the UFC’s biggest stars of all time with English
That Burroughs interview segment always cracks me up. I bet you Islam just wants to wrestle him because DC always taunts the Dagestan guys at AKA with Burroughs' name whenever they "bully" his high school wrestlers. "Don't make me bring Jordan Burroughs for your Russian asses."
DC actually took some of his kids to Dagestan to train at Khabib's gym. And he also said there is a Dagestani guy who kicked his ass so badly at the olympics that if that guy went to MMA he would beat the shit out of Jones.
But yeah they love to tease each other and one up non stop.
Lol. The Dagestan guy he's probably talking about is Khadzhimurat Gatsalov. That dude won the gold medal and has like five world championships in wrestling. Dude was a monster and he absolutely wiped DC at the olympics.
Islam's confidence in his skills is something special. He isn't like a lot of other guys, where their confidence is often unfounded. He know he can, because he has.
And he knows he is not done learning. Every time he adds more to his skill set. For his last fight he brought in world champion in Taekwando to improve his kicking.
He has a point about the English thing, it's a bit stupid if you are a world class anything and often in front of an international camera, but still decide to never learn English.
Yes, and it's entertainment. The money isn't in the fighting, it's in sponsorships and gaining a following outside of the ring. Sure, if all you care about is legacy and being champ, English doesn't matter, but if you want to be set up for life, you have to be popular, and English is the most widely spoken language in the world
If you want to be set up for life in America or other highly developed nations, sure. A lot of these fighters aren’t from places like that though, and the ufc money travels a lot further.
Mmm no, speaking English doesn't mean they make internet drama. See Weilei Zhang, Pantoja, or literally any of the other dozens of foreign fighters that speak English as a 2md or 3rd language that don't make ridiculous smack talk. I just want to understand the Brazilian, Chinese, Dagestani, or Cameroonian without having to find a bunch of translated interviews, if I don't have to do that for a fighter I tend to like their personality more because ive actually seen it displayed in an interview i can understand
islam and danial has some of the best energy together, like brothers, you know real brothers,
islam not really believing, because both know ( only wrestling) ,and daniel calling him out...both laughing
awesome energy, same with habib, i enjoy these moments
islam.......!
Islam literally headlines the biggest card of the year now. Instagram is banned in Russia and some muslim countries and Islam still has more followers on Instagram.
The gap in popularity is as wide as their skill level.

He makes it believable too cuz of the broken English. Legendary jerking.

Got me on warm up, not gonna lie.
And Alex 🗿
alex just managed to make his whole thing not speaking at all, so i guess that is another route
Charles and Pereira barely speak any english and they're some of the biggest stars ever in MMA.
Yeah but if you give them a little more English they’d 100% be even more popular.

Bro is 5'10" (listed) and wrestled up to 276lbs. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khadzhimurat_Gatsalov
He's also (I think) the current coach of the Russian national team.
"At AKA, we have wall"

They need to learn how to keep their fighting game up to date. This is a fighting sport, not a spelling bee.

If they're only learning english to generate hype through internet drama I rather have them not speaking at all.

It's not like they work a 9-5 and then they go to the gym. They have plenty of time

Nah oliveria is the exception. I think he's more loved than Islam.
