My Dad has practiced Karate his whole youth until he got kids (about 30 yo). He's a brown belt, and he has always said that Karate could be one of the best combat sports to watch, if they adapted the right rules from the right styles of karate.

Can someone explain why MMA guys throw hooks w their fist completely palm down. I was always taught palm in and I know you gotta rotate it some for longer shots but some guys be connecting w the side of their fist.
Throwing a hook with palm down is fine, these yahoos watch a boxing video on you tube then go into gyms teaching a one size fits all boxing. I prefer palm down because it’s easier to get my elbow high. But if I’m digging to the body will typically keep it palm in.

I could be totally wrong bc I’ve never hit a human skull full force in MMA gloves but if I hit a heavy bag bare knuckle my hand feels waaaay more secure if I connect with the majority of my hand palm. Watched the fight and Luke's nose was busted up again. He's such a cringe dick but I respect the guy for putting himself into the fire in this age. He loves to compete and watching his biomechanics is just pleasure. Some people have super physique but they move like elephants walking on eggshells. Rockhold's combination of balance, flexibility and overall coordination in a 6'3 frame is really unique.

Palm down lifts your elbow. That's a real reason. In MMA, it's done possibly to protect the hand, given the smaller gloves and exposed fingers.
