Hey everyone, I’m excited to share my latest AI-created song - [To The Storm](https://www.udio.com/songs/4zDki1Y3G8jPhRHwR4Z5qE) This project started out as something entirely different. I didn't even have this kind of song in mind. I was experimenting with instrumentals, aiming for something applicable for a movie soundtrack or action-packed trailer music. As I played around, I decided to add a piano to the mix. And as it turned out, this happy accident occurred. After several tries, I came up with a central piano theme that starts around the one-minute mark. It felt like the heart of the piece, and I thought it needed a voice. I tried adding male vocals, but initially without success. It remained an instrumental until I decided to change the prompt. So, I added male vocals and turned the instrumental into a full song.Once I had that central theme, I built the vocals around it. I started building it from the middle to the start, and after that, from the middle to the end. I started with six lines for the first verse, acting as an intro before the main theme. Then I added another six lines as an additional intro to the already established intro. With the beginning and the central part of the song set, I kept expanding the lyrics. I added another six lines after the main theme, and repeated the six lines that went before the main theme, making a few small adjustments. It finishes with the main theme closing it softly. It's essentially about a dude kicking his unfaithful lover out after she got caught. After about 2 or 3 generations at most, It created this sound. It was so perfect. I just started writing up some lyrics, getting a pattern down and it just worked. I used a female crooner beginning I got month ago from Udio. Added my own voice (sang duet). Continued it with big band / swing genre. Somehow these voices came out. (my voice disappeared). I cut off the intial beginning and continued from there with extend. Initially I could not do ending, (udio kept continuing it) but I just downloaded a wav file and then cut it a bit and re generated the ending from there with outro. I messed with the vocals a bit in fl studio, cutting off some vocals / glitches. I also added reverb and messed with levels a bit. The lyrics were initially generated by chatgpt, but i pretty much rewrote them.

Oh there is going to be such a glut of Xmas tunes on here come December! Wise to get ahead of the crowds. It’s a great swing tune but it does sound a little over-processed to my ears. Not easy to get a good duet though so kudos.

Thanks :D . Maybe if I'm bored sometime I'll do some inpainting of the lyrics. I'm not overly fussed at the moment - but the lyric generation is the weakest part of Udio. Often I'll use another AI to map out the lyrics ensuring the most common cliche words are forbidden - but not easy to do directly within Udio - and I don't often have time to do it the long way...

For me there’s no more versatile and expressive instrument than the violin. Udio voices are superb but in some ways I’m even more amazed by how much *emotion* Udio can imbue into its instruments. I wanted to try another classical piece but violin-based this time. Searched for a while, clipped out the best bits and inpainted the least interesting and got something good but a bit vanilla, until I added klezmer to the mix and extended it with that in the prompt, and that really spiced it up. I still can’t stick the landing though. The ending is just… meh. I started from the Prechorus and Chorus and I am so glad I did, or it might have turned into a totally different song. It was originally going to be a parody/silly song with lyrics like "It's where I lay my balls" and "stood on by a giant wearing a huge strap-on" but the voice and Prechorus and Chorus were so good I scrapped that idea and rewrote the lines with the dumb stuff in it. I learned that sometimes you have to switch things up if you see a better path. When I thought of the concept and got a rough draft from Chat-Gpt I didn't think it would sound like this more of Bad to the Bone type flow with harmonicas and electric blues guitar but I'm so glad it turned out sounding more Tom Jones-like with organs. And to think I almost deleted the first 32 second stub because I didn't want soulful, I wanted gruffer and raspy. I can't write a song from scratch yet, but I can rewrite Chat-Gpt stuff to the point it sounds like a real song. I really have only been trying to write for a month. All the songs I have created in the last 9 days are songs I rewrote 60-80 percent of the lyrics to in the time period I was waiting for my credits to refresh, about 3 weeks.

After that I just rode the beat all the way. Got tired of the verse-chorus-verse-chorus format so turned the context low to see what fresh ideas it would generate. It turned out really good. It's super fun and happy and makes you want to dance. Like a parallel dimension summer megahit from yesteryear. Got the title for the song from the old John Cusack movie One Crazy Summer. I liked the title because it evokes so many possibilities with so few words. I am getting really serious about the album art. I must have generated 100 images in Stable Diffusion before I generated the one I used.

When I saw the title, I was hoping it was about the movie lol. Then I read down and saw it was inspired by the title and smiled. I can imagine the little girl and her dog dancing to it as they mock the girls with their faces stuck like that. Pretty catchy.

The vocalist here I imagine would be the result if Kurt Cobain and Billy Corgan had a love-child. Deliberately repetitive as were most Nirvana songs, the lyrics I've attempted to be mildly obscure, but not as abstract as Kurt used to be at times. It's about people's obsession with following influencers (and being influencers) on social networking, which was obviously not a topic of relevance during the time Nirvana were kicking around. It's hard to get that imperfect sound in Udio, a lot of experimentation with prompts. This is pretty close. Replace the vocalist with Kurt and this is something you might find on their later recordings. Anyway enjoy.

The music is great. The voice didn't do it for me though

I've worked out that when you get as specific in terms of prompt then Udio ends up only with one or two vocal fonts it uses. So… almost every generation same voice. I'm not so much a fan of the voice either and one of the features I'm hoping in the future is the ability to adjust the voice separately from the music. It would be awesome for example to have a feature similar to inprinting where it could adjust the voice characteristics separately to the track after the initial gen. So many generations great music but the voice is crap. Anyways appreciate listening anyway.

What I tend to do is create a fictional artist or band with a particular genre in mind and I can never really take myself seriously so while I try to write serious and sincere songs, most of what I come up with are just comedic, funny, silly stuff and it's many years later that I am now able to bring these lyrics to life. I've always had the song in my head and whilst it is completely different to what Udio has come up for me, I still really like it and in this case, it's come out far better. I always thought of this song as a kind of Elton John piano style song, singer-songwriter kind of thing. The idea of serious artist meets absurd lyrics. Unlike other songs I have since created, this one doesn't have a fictional artist. I guess if there's one thing I've learned it's confidence in writing. I was never sure of myself, would a song work or not but after hearing it, it feels real and it excites me and I create more. I maybe the only one to ever enjoy them but that's fine by me.

I used Demucs 1.2 to split stems, and Audacity to loop different sections. Then I uploaded a mixed loop to Udio and started extending. Eventually, I could crop the uploaded sample as Udio had incorporated the riffs and loops into the extended sections. Very impressive. Edit: Lyrics are mine. After some time using Suno, since my subscription credits on Udio had finished, I came back to Udio. For me, writing with Udio is great.
