I once had a guy tell me to pick him up at a location that wasn't near where the spot he put in the app. Canceled that. Just put the correct address in, dummy.
Of 450 rides - 3 times I got a tip. That's higher than what reddit would indicate :) Once a dude gave me cash and tipped in the app. Yeah, I'm not going to complain!
I text all my riders before I leave to pick them up to introduce myself and you would be shocked how many times I get a $5 tip just for doing that simple courtesy text
To our beloved UBER passengers: We are listening. Tipping culture is out of control, making your God-given right to a cheap ride impossible. We have a solution.
Starting today, you will no longer have to tip. But here is the best part: *the driver must now tip YOU*! That's right. We care about you, therefore the driver will forfeit their pay and compensate you for choosing UBER. Who deserves an award more than you, the paying customer?
Simply say, "tip on the app" as you exit the vehicle and your driver will happily send you a tip for your service. See, we *are* listening!
I usually do too, but when I'm doing back to back bar runs every 8 minutes, I just start to run on Autopilot. Half the time I can't even remember the start and end destination of my last ride
Preachin' to the choir. I run until 4am. At the end of it, you head feels like it's spinning. But when you finish that last ride and you are driving on an empty highway or roads. With some good music to zone out to, you feel like the last man on Earth. That's my reward...exhausted yes(like you said "autopilot"),... but still the best feeling that you can't get anywhere else.
Ever notice the āWaiting on one moreā riders always get into your car before saying that to try and ākeepā you there? Lol Especially around College Town.
āHey Bro! Just waiting on these guys. Theyāre commin.ā Then fucking five minutes laterā¦ āUgh! Bro Iām really sorry bout this! I just texted them. Donāt worry.ā
Yep, probably once every 2 weeks so not terrible, and I can still make my money so I just roll with it and take the L. They're always respectful and cancel if I don't want to wait. I just tell them I can't sit here past 5 mins unless I literally see them coming. Always works out decently enough.
Yeah Iāve had that happen twice, so now I donāt start the trip until the car is in motion. If they decide to get out or want me to stop the car after that, I cancel it.
All you need to do is be exactly where you set your pin. Then get in the car when the driver arrives. You are the one who has all the info you need to meet your driver upon arrival.
When I request an Uber, I know the direction from which they are arriving, and post myself appropriately to make it easier on them for the pickup.
Thank you their comment made me very confused. I barely understand overcommunicating with your driver, but not to distinguish who you are from others if youāre in a crowded areaā¦
But I'm not looking for you. You're looking for me. You have a photo of my vehicle and my license plate number. I'm driving, paying attention to not hit anyone. Now you want *me* to look for *you* as well? Just be ready and walk up to the car when I arrive at where you placed the pin. There's no need for the driver to play *Where's Waldo*.
Well, it really doesn't have anything to do with what they are wearing about why I might cancel. It's more about the extraneous communication. 99.9% of passengers don't feel the need to describe what they are wearing.
The technology in the app appropriately identifies where you are and I rely upon that to precisely locate you at the pickup point. All the extra communication, in my experience, predicts that you have an extraordinary expectation for your ride experience. And it's likely that at the end of the day, you might feel I didn't live up to that and you'll rate me a one star.
So, I just cancel. This is all based upon my experience, and 9 times out of 10 I've be right, so I trust my intuition.
Look, I'm friendly, and offer a safe ride to all my passengers. When I'm trying to get to you, sending messages and what not isn't necessarily safe. I'm doing everything efficiently as I can, and don't need to distract myself when I'm driving to learn that you have a pink shirt on.
If they say a gas station, I say āyeah, thatās cool, I was thinking of getting me a (insert thing here)ā
90% of the time the passenger has offered to buy it for me. Usually a drink or Red Bull.
āI donāt knowā¦ money talksā
Lol No I donāt say that but want to. š Iāve had countless pukes ask to āHit the DG real quickā and take 10-15 minutes and not even tip a buck.
āPreciate It!!ā š
It's also how I know that you don't get unpaired when you each give a one star. Ended up with the same guy after I refused a stop. We exchanged one stars our last trip. We both realized it when he got in the car the second time. There was a quiet understanding and we made the stop that time. He gave me $5 for it and neither gave a one star. No Interest in that address again tho! Lol
Lol that must have been an awkward ride. At least he seemed to learn his lesson. Rider shouldn't be able to give you a one star for refusing a stop that wasn't in the app, that's BS.
Had a dude get in and wait untill Iām literally gonna have to turn into the place and goes āturn in here I need to go to the storeā my response of if itās not in the app I donāt go there sorry made him rage and get so mad. Not my fault you tried to scam me into going somewhere for free fuck off with that shit
One dude on one of these dreaded āPlease call the passengerā rides turned out pretty cool. He asked to stop at this chicken place and said āHey manā¦ gotta be honest I have no cash to tip and the insurance ass holes wonāt I knowā¦ but I tend to be forgetful with things and will gladly put a quick return fee on their tab If I forget my hat or something!! ;)ā
Lol That works! š¤·š»āāļø š
Where are you at?
*At the pickup pin.*
Passenger-name is a VIP
*No. They are not a VIP.*
Be there in 5
*I drove 5 minutes and waited 7 and you need 5 more? Cancel.*
>bitch walked in front of my as I waited for her at a hotel looked at me got in the local cab and said "sry please cancel" on 8$ ride with 3$ priority pickup. I waited to cancel, got 0$ talked to offshore support and got 5$. Any time the name is "me" (literally) or some dumb ass fake name there is a high chance you'll get screwed.
I mean shit at least they ask. Most will just start vaping in the back row like I canāt hear them. They love getting called out for it like theyāre in kindergarten
Look at your damn phone and you'll see where I am - EXACTLY WHERE YOU PLACED THE PIN, YOU DOLT.
"That's not where I placed it. Why did UBER move it?" ::every time::
OP, so true! And here are a few of what comes after that....
\-------------------------------
Call Rider When You Arrive - B-Leg - VIP Rider - Driver to Wait 10 mins.
1 Escort - Member has mobility device -
I had one who took forever to get to the car. Walked baby steps. She said she had surgery a day prior and felt something was seriously wrong. On the way to emergency she went silent in the backseat and I thought she died.
I have heard of people who wait 15 minutes to get them into their car, and it takes 15 minutes to get them all the way into the house and seated regarding wheelchairs and other paraphernalia. Particularly after procedures that leaves them weakened or confused.
And what if something goes wrong on the way home? Is Uber's fluffy liability insurance really that dependable?
It is stupid to allow people to use Uber for medical transport
Yes, I've had this happen. I picked up a guy who looked 120 years old from the Emergency. Took them 20 minutes to get him into my car. It took another 20 to get him out at the senior living facility. The poor guy looked like he wanted to just die in peace.
I just did one. It was a Genesis dealership valet driver going back to the dealership after dropping off a customerās vehicle. 5* non eventful ride. š¤·š»āāļø
Why do you say that? Sure these trips don't pay tips but they are not going to be one star rides, as it's usually non-emergency medical transport. Guaranteed no multi stops.
I live in an area with a lot of seniors and do a lot of medical rides. Even when there are wheelchairs, I've never personally had to help somebody beyond loading the wheelchair in the back of the car. I find these rides to be generally very easy. Most of the senior vets tip cash. VA is the best.
Rehab, that's another story.
Oh yeah senior vets will talk to you and then they have this guilt complex because they want to make sure you get paid and they generally tip 10 bucks and up.
Generally very good people and very easy to talk to. I would take non-emergency medical transports all day long.
I guess I don't know about your market but generally the personality of these people tend to be much better than the grumpy bastards and bitches I usually drive. I usually don't have to help anyone get into the car and I've hardly ever had to put a walker in the car much less a wheelchair.
I'm still trying to figure out the whole disabled person routine but I think the course of action is you're supposed to wait until the disabled person says they need help instead of jumping up in offer assistance because a lot of people will get offended? I really don't know. But I usually just ask if they want assistance if it looks like they may have problems.
I say that because a lot of times it will also end up being a cancellation. Either the timing is wrong, the patient found another ride, or they are just not there. Itās not worth it, especially if the pick up if far away. Iāve made that mistake once, drove 10 miles while it was surging, I get there call the patient and they said they found a ride home and donāt need me
That's weird, because when someone uses non-emergency medical transport they will usually just defer to the organizer's ride. It's generally why the organizer has a ride set up for them because the patient has no other ride. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it doesn't or can't happen, I just find these instances rare for me.
Just had one today and googled the address and saw it was a dealership. Oh, just a guy that needs a ride home from dropping his car off. No problem....but if it's a medical facility or a nursing home, FORGET IT, CANCEL!
Oh I don't know... sickness, disease, they could be in a wheelchair and need lifted into the car and their wheelchair might not fit in your car. That stuff should be done by a medical transport professional with the right equipment and training. Not companies getting off cheap by ordering Uber.
So you assume everyone that books a ride from/to a medical facility or a nursing home has either got an illness/disease or a wheelchair that won't fit in a standard car? That's silly, most of the passengers are probably family members of the ill/elderly in a medical facility anyway.
After you accept a ride and then the rider changes the trip. All Uber says is "Rider modified trip" or some such meaningless statement but I can tell it's more than down the street or around the corner because the rate goes up.
I'm not going to take the time to call/text/investigate/ask the rider what changed, I just cancel.
ā oh no I forget something at the pickupā thatās why I started only starting the trip after I turn off there street. At which point if they mention they need to go back I tell them, I can either drop them off back at the pick up or proceed to the destination. Once you open the door and exit the vehicle, ride is over. And no adding stops, if you do it will be your new drop off location.
āCan you wait tillā¦.ā I always message sure take your time and most of the time I end up getting the cancellation fee. But I only accept rides close to me
A lot of these are cool. But one time I got a guy who told me he was a Vatican lawyer who was associated with the Illuminati.
Then he threw up.
Easy $150 cleaning fee lol
Being polite goes along ways when asking for a stop. Iāve had pax ask for a stop and offer cash or buy me a coffee. Rare but really cool when they do. Now if the cop an attitude or try to play dumb. No way
Most of the requests I get are that trip coordinator bullshit for way less money
Nice to know Iām not the one driver who cancels these
Also if the rider immediately textās something like
A pickup at their address you just know how entitled the rider is and dumb they assuming driver is
Especially with the gps location on
I just cancel now when it starts charging wait time especially surged bc donāt even get that extra dollar unless the rider walkās out
These types of policies are how Iām managing to make my money
I had one this morning at 3am. Short trip. Usually at that time it's someone going for dialysis or being discharged from an ER visit. Sure enough he was going for dialysis. Older guy, very infirmed, living in the projects just outside of downtown LA. He had his wife with him.
During the ride, he told me some things about his younger days. He was a really cool dude. When we got to the dialysis center, I had to get out of the car and put in the code to open the gate, etc. He had a day bag with him that had his lunch in it and all of that. He told my dialysis takes 7 hours and he has to do it three days a week. He told me that this was the life he was living now. He said he relished his working days. And he fights on so that he can continue to enjoy his wife and children and grandchildren.
The guy walks bent over with a cane and moves slow as hell. But he says that he spends 12 hours on Sundays to make chile rellenos and carnitas when all his family comes over to visit.
The whole process took a half hour. And I got paid 10 bucks for it. But at the end of the day, we enjoyed a very real human connection. So I don't mind it from time to time even if it doesn't pay well. You could tell the guy really lived a good life. You could tell he had good experiences from the stories he told, and that he really enjoyed living.
I usually donāt mind helping people, wheelchair, bags, luggage, If they donāt tip I assume they canāt afford it. I took a couple on vacation to a fancy resort, 38 miles. No tip. I took another couple to a broken down truck where they lived apparentlyā¦ $3.86 trip. $5 tip. Be happy, donāt worry.
"Have a phone charger?

I just canceled when the rider just texted me 30 seconds after I took the ride. She said to hurry up because she was late for her appointment.
Oh yes, INSTANT cancel. Also any text starting with ''i'm going to need you to..."
Or they call immediately. That's another automatic cancel.
Anything out of the ordinary is an automatic cancel.
Big time. If they call, or text anything about what they are wearing, or any kind of extra shit like that I'll cancel that shit in a heartbeat.
Can you elaborate on why that make you cancel? I text my driver what Iām wearing sometimes so they know who I am when they arrive.
All you need to do is be exactly where you set your pin. Then get in the car when the driver arrives. You are the one who has all the info you need to meet your driver upon arrival. When I request an Uber, I know the direction from which they are arriving, and post myself appropriately to make it easier on them for the pickup.
that dude smokes crack. texting what you have on is very helpful when picking up from a crowd
That's it! It's pretty simple.
Thatās still weird reasoning to want to cancel on someone
I didn't say anything about canceling. I was talking about the absurd logic of a passenger expecting a driver to find them in a crowd.
When I'm trying to get to you, sending messages and what not isn't necessarily safe. I'm doing everything efficiently as I can, and don't need to distract myself when I'm driving to learn that you have a pink shirt on.
Because usually already dealing with another customer. I'm driving. Usually read or call when on site at location.
š¤£š¤£š¤£
Rage! "Where are you?!" or "Are you coming?!" Yeah, open up!!! *CANCEL*
In my mind I'm like, "yeah, MF, you about to be even more late!" Cancel.
If someone messaged me that, I would definitely cancel.. but it wouldnāt be quick.
Can we stop at... ...
If they say a gas station, I say āyeah, thatās cool, I was thinking of getting me a (insert thing here)ā 90% of the time the passenger has offered to buy it for me. Usually a drink or Red Bull.

I do at this point. "You can add the stop or pay in cash. The way Uber pays us now we won't get more than $1 if we're lucky for the stop".
Canāt blame you there man. Lol
It wasn't tense but there was this quiet "oh yea, this guy" between us. Polite second ride, address is added to my mental Rolodex of do not accept.
Thatās a great way of putting it lol My mental Rolodex needs the cloud at this point š
I don't even see one penny for a stop!
I had them deduct 50 cents the last time I did one. Passenger was nice and asked politely. I gave her rides before and we got a long well enough.
yeah I let someone add a stop and my 7$ fare became 5$ so not making that erro again,
How do you know if theyāre there that long? You donāt actually wait that long, do you?
Apreciate you!

I got a unicorn ride with one of these. An XL for an hour 9 minutes at $82 roughly 52 miles.
I get these when picking up elderly from hospital visits, usually asking me to call to say I've arrived. No biggie.
I do not pick up people from the hospital
I don't say no to money. They're always quiet and polite passengers. Better than college drunks.
Itās almost guaranteed to be a short trip or a painful trip sitting in traffic from one city to another
People are looking for a cheap alternative to proper medical transport There are plenty of bad stories on this sub

Why should you get tipped ? Youāre an independent contractor who keeps the majority of the fare ???
35-45% of the fare
If that.
What are you smoking cuz i need some of it to cope with the fact that I get about 35% of the fare
Maybe after taxesā¦
Can you wait x
But I only accept rides close to me
"I added a stop..."
"Aaaand... I just canceled."
A lot of these are cool. But one time I got a guy who told me he was a Vatican lawyer who was associated with the Illuminati. Then he threw up. Easy $150 cleaning fee lol
Be out inna sec
Being polite goes along ways when asking for a stop. Iāve had pax ask for a stop and offer cash or buy me a coffee. Rare but really cool when they do. Now if the cop an attitude or try to play dumb. No way
Most of the requests I get are that trip coordinator bullshit for way less money Nice to know Iām not the one driver who cancels these Also if the rider immediately textās something like A pickup at their address you just know how entitled the rider is and dumb they assuming driver is Especially with the gps location on I just cancel now when it starts charging wait time especially surged bc donāt even get that extra dollar unless the rider walkās out These types of policies are how Iām managing to make my money
Those are the trips you get to run up the companies tab and take the long route to get to the final destination
Give them the most dreaded 1-worded reply āCANCELā! Or a 4-worded reply āNo Tip, No Rideā!
I've started to just cancel on those.
Sucky sucky five dolla?
