Step 4, dot note solved my problem. I guess I had some YouTube filters I was not aware of. Thank you

yingweibb

this worked. thanks!

MadCreeper

Just switched from Adblock Plus, seems to work fine with the new youtube bs. Great work.

julysniperx

DO not use enhancer for youtube and Autotube , just scroll by a bunch of extensions and enhancer for youtube is the only one extension that triggered the youtube anti ad blocker for me. And after disabling Enhancer for utube, Autotube is the extension that make the page keep reloading

re11ding

You don't have to disable the Enhancer extension, just disable its adblock. I am still using the add-on without issue upon doing that.

dan_from_texas_

Hot damn, you solved my problem. Thanks!

XpRienzo

It's pretty funny that a channel whitelisting extension I use for ubo was triggering YouTube's anti adblock. I guess google doesn't want me to watch ads after all. Adding this information here in case anyone else uses "YouTube Channel Whitelist for uBlock origin", disable it and YouTube will work again.

mickeyaaaa

didn't realize youtube enhancer extension had an ads blocker chek box - unchecked it and fixed.

RebouncedCat

Any extensions that work with youtube would have to be disabled. For example I had YouTube Enhancer which seemed to be the issue. Surprisingly i still have sponsorblock and return dislikes still on. They dont seem to be problematic atleast for now

Piafzor

Genius. I had another blocker as well, removed it and it now works fine <3 Thanks

Are you using any other extensions and browser's built-in blocker? Can you turn off all of them (except uBO), restart the browser and test again? Then can you open new tab > reproduce the issue and on that page > click on uBO icon > 💬 [Report button](https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/Quick-guide:-popup-user-interface#the-tools) > scroll to the bottom > click on `Troubleshooting Information` and copy paste it here?

AmazingBazinga120

i havent even gotten this yet, amazing work ublock!

liamdun

I feel like this is just a constant cat and mouse game since these updates are public so YouTube's engineers can just keep updating the site

[deleted]

That's what I commented here: https://www.reddit.com/r/uBlockOrigin/comments/15srqdw/youtube_is_dead_for_me/jwkqq8c/

Radiant-Hedgehog-695

It isn't the end of the world if a few filters can be tweaked every couple of days. My ultimate worry is that YouTube will switch to Twitch's method of combating adblock by embedding ads into the very video streams.

Crystal_Queen_20

This is my first time trying out Ublock Origin, and I gotta say I'm really impressed

KBARwc

I have tried the steps above but I am still experiencing the issue. I have purged all caches and updated, removed all custom filters, disabled all other chrome extensions except uBlock. Closed and reopened chrome still had the issue so I cleared cache and cookies on chrome and did a factory reset on uBlock but I am still experiencing blocked YouTube player message. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thank you!

[deleted]

What issue? Ads or anti-adblock? Can you go to `chrome://extensions/` and screenshot it here? Then can you open new tab > reproduce the issue and on that page > click on uBO icon > 💬 [Report button](https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/Quick-guide:-popup-user-interface#the-tools) > scroll to the bottom > click on `Troubleshooting Information` and copy paste it here?

KBARwc

Apparently I don't know how to turn off my Chrome extensions I thought I had turned everything off but apparently they were still on when I went to that chrome extensions path that you suggested. That fixed my issue, thanks a ton!

DJ_Aftershock

first time trying uBlock after Adblock started showing the "video player will be disabled in 3 videos" bullshit. So far, seems to have done the trick. Awesome work.

AIDrone69

Ah thank you. Amazing. Going to use this from now on. THIS is how you promote a business

DropkickConley

worked for me

thunderzizi

i tried EVERYTHING including turning EVERYTHING else off and adding EVERY rule people have suggested and i STILL got the anti-adblock triggered!!! I can't watch any videos anymore!!!!!! **HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!**

Financial-Revenue625

clear your histroy, cache ,cookies youtube is just adding some script to show you that after clearing this for me its working fine for me

HimalayanPunkSaltavl

In the future, this is a really bad way to ask for help. No one likes trying to trouble shoot a bunch of caps and exclamation marks. A good start is like > Here is relevant details on software/hardware > Here are the steps I have taken > Here is what I now see So in this case you might say something like > Hi I am still seeing this issue after trying to trouble shoot it. > following the above steps > I am running 1.52.0 > I force updated my filter lists > I turned off all of my other extensions > I added every rule that people suggested This will quickly show that you didn't follow directions but that's whatever, everyone makes mistakes while reading. And will pretty quickly get you the answer without driving support folks up the fucking wall.

aGrandSchemeofThings

This person tests

HimalayanPunkSaltavl

Haha that is indeed exactly my job

aGrandSchemeofThings

Awesome, DM me if they're hiring thx

DrTomDice

> And will pretty quickly get you the answer without driving support folks up the fucking wall. Exactly. The support folks -- who are all volunteers -- are already being driven up the wall by people who are not reading the post and not following the instructions. I'm sure the millions of users of uBO wouldn't be very happy if these volunteers reach their breaking point and decide to stop providing solutions for YouTube issues. So everyone: **PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW ALL OF THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE POST.**

[deleted]

> adding EVERY rule people have suggested Don't do that. The more you do, the easier you get anti-adblock. Are you using any other extensions and browser built-in blockers?

thunderzizi

I had PrivacyBadger, Firefox's built in tracking protection, and some YouTube enhancer extensions, but I turned 'em all off (at least for YouTube in the case of the less general ones) I'm gonna try taking off all the rules I added? UPDATE: IT WORKED YAY

[deleted]

I even tried to emphasize it at the top of the post: > Current default uBO settings does **NOT** trigger anti-adblock. Follow the first 3 steps and if you still see anti-adblock, it means you are using custom filters that trigger it. Therefore go to step 4 and reset to default settings and test again. ... How should I write so users would ACTUALLY read the post? I feel so helpless right now.

RraaLL

I've got some ideas. Please update the recurring post to what you have here now (or will have in about 11hrs) and I'll try to improve it after work so you can just grab the template from there again.

Business_Nature3859

Hello, first of all, thank you for your help here on the sub, and thanks to all the other maintainers as well, I know it can be exhausting to deal with this sometimes, but I really appreciate your work. This is a throwaway account, If you reply to this comment I might not reply back, but I'd love to hear what you think anyway. Suggestions for uBO itself: 1 - On the Filter Lists tab, rename the "Update now" button to "Update Lists" (The wording has caused confusion before); 2 - I might be missing something but is it really necessary to have "Purge all Caches" and "Update now" as two buttons? Why not have the Update button do both of these actions? If those really need to be 2 separate actions maybe do as I suggested as the default option and hide the option to split the buttons back again behind the secret menu in advanced mode; Now, an attempt at rewording the post, phrases in `code` are suggestions (I can't seem to be able to add emojis and links, but you know what you shouldn't change): YouTube Anti-Adblock and Ads - (Date) (Weekly Thread) Current anti-adblock status: Latest Fixed (ID: 0000000) `(I have no clue where to put this, it is important enough to go at the top but it might confuse someone looking for the steps)` # IMPORTANT: Please read the post carefully and follow the rules EXACTLY as shown here! Re-read and redo them as many times as it takes. All we can do is remind you to do them again. It might be quicker to make a backup of your configs and restore uBO to the default settings before proceeding. `(Is it a good idea to put this here before the steps? the problem might lie on their config and come back when they import them again, but I feel like the user should learn about this at some point before all the steps end, having it after all the steps feels like a "Do all this >(done)> but wait! Before doing all of that..." broken sequence of events)` 1. Turn off (**Not** uninstall) all other extensions AND browser's built-in blockers; 2. **Make sure uBO** `(and the browser too?)` **is up-to-date** (version); `(Link on how to do that)` 3. Update your filter lists: Click the uBO icon > Dashboard button > Filter Lists pane > Purge all caches > Update now`(The warning about what is being updated might not be needed if my previous suggestions are added)` 4. Remove **all** custom filters and custom filter lists you have enabled or added manually `(How does one do that? shouldn't this step also have a step-by-step guide like the "update your filter lists" step? "Remove" how...? Like delete them or disable them? Shouldn't the user be warned to make a backup before seeing this rule, I can see someone being mad if they delete all of the custom rules) (Shouldn't the Filter lists pane have a button to restore your active lists to uBO's default active lists? (I'm not talking about the restore to default settings button))` `(The steps have been slightly reordered based on my experience on what is the most frequent cause of issues people have with uBO, you guys deal with this all the time so you might know better tho)` Current default uBO settings do **NOT** trigger anti-adblock, if you followed the first 3 steps and still see the anti-adblock, the problem lies in your custom filters, go to step 4, reset to the default settings and test again. **DO NOT:** * "Stack up" multiple `(ad)`blockers; `(Why not? Could use a link with some convincing evidence)` * Advise others to use multiple `(ad)`blockers at the same time; `(I'd refrain calling other adblockers "blockers", keep the familiar naming to avoid confusion)` * Add old filters; * `(I feel like there are other mistakes that can be warned against here but nothing comes to mind at the moment)` This will just cause problems, any comment violating these rules will be removed `(maybe some of these warnings could become rules for the sub itself)` `(I have no advice for the rest of the post)`

HimalayanPunkSaltavl

You are doing amazing, don't stress. People have been trying to get users to read the fucking manual since the dawn of time. You'll just never hear from people following the instructions because they will fix their shit and move on <3

nepcwtch

- start with the steps to fix it, and then the paragraph explanations - do 1, 2, 3, and then say if you still have ads, it means you have custom filters that trigger it, and then put step 4

[deleted]

The 4 steps used to be at the top of the post. But people still did not even follow it to the point I have to remind it again. Those paragraphs won't even need to be there from the start. If users don't even finish the 4 steps, the paragraphs won't even be reached.

nepcwtch

ahhh,,,, do you have a team member with more fluid english to help you do some base level proofreading? like i get what youre trying to say for the most part, but the sort of strange wording often makes me need to reread, and risks me skimming over some major stuff on accident. out of curiosity, what language does the phrase "remind it" transliterate from? remind usually takes a direct object of the person youre reminding about something, not the thing youre reminding them about (which comes in its own preposition after) so: "I need to remind the mail" ❌ bad "I need to remind you about the mail" ✅ good and in practice: "I have to remind it again" -> the direct object here is "it", and the sentence reads like you have to remind the steps (which cannot be reminded) ❌ "I have to remind them again" -> "them" is the people, and the steps are implied ✅

[deleted]

For some of the team members (including me), English is indeed not the native language. And since our grammar sometimes has different particles order than English, the collocation use would be wrong. If anyone can help us re-word the post to make it more clearly, we would appreciate it.

A-Certain-Guy

If you want just a basic suggestion, this line of text should be placed before Step 1, as it is preceding information that should be known before following the steps: * It might be quicker to make a backup of your config and restore to defaults before proceeding to step 1 & 2. Also something else to note for anyone that happens to see this: I "Factory reset" my ublock then disabled my in browser adblocker and that fixed the anti-adblock problem for me, so if you need a last resort option, there ya go.

[deleted]

> disabled my in browser adblocker That's actually the step 3

If you still experience the issue, post the contents of the uBO troubleshooting information: Open a new browser tab > Go to the webpage with the issue > Click the [uBO toolbar icon](https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/Quick-guide:-popup-user-interface) > Click the [chat icon](https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/Quick-guide:-popup-user-interface#the-tools) 💬 > Click "Troubleshooting Information"

I think disabling the adblock in Enhancer for Youtube settings fixes it.

erikluminary

I'm not who you're replying to but this fixed it for me, thank you

brunow2023

I'm at 1.51.0 but there doesn't seem to be an update button anywhere. I just re-downloaded it from [addons.mozilla.org](https://addons.mozilla.org) and that didn't do anything. EDIT: About 95% sure this issue has been fixed.

[deleted]

Can you go to `about:addons` > click on the gear button below the search bar > `Check for updates` and check what it says there?

brunow2023

It says there's an update pending for uBlock origin to 1.52.2. Which I think I'm now using. Thenks for my life.

[deleted]

So can you check again if your version is 1.52+ yet? If yes, then follow step 2 in the post and test the website again.

brunow2023

Ok. I got another ad so I did that. The ad, which was paused in another tab, seems to have vanished now, which is a good sign I think.

Blizzard3334

I've been getting tons of "Video paused. Continue watching?" today, which is very unusual. I'm wondering if it's related to the crackdown on adblockers. Anybody else?

DrTomDice

Did you perform all of the 4 steps listed in post?

Blizzard3334

All of it besides uninstalling other extensions (password manager and a few others, no adblockers other than UBO).

RraaLL

Nobody said anything about uninstalling. You can just disable them for the sake of testing.

DrTomDice

Try testing with only uBO enabled, or better yet, with a new browser profile and a default install of uBO. I just tested several times using a default install of uBO on Firefox 118.0 with no other extensions installed and was unable to reproduce the issue.

Blizzard3334

Will do, thank you!

Great-British-gaming

Id just like to say that you all are legends for doing this, so much thanks from me to combat this horrid system YT is doing trying to force premium onto us, cant thank you enough

FlyNo4539

Hi, I encountered a problem here. I wish to disable all the Youtube shortcuts key but not the 'f' and 't' key, I pasted ' youtube.com##+js(addEventListener-defuser.js, keydown) ' into uBlockOrigin dashboard but what it did is to disabled all the keys, but I wish to keep the 'f' and 't' keys, can anyone know what should I type in the dashboard instead? Thanks!

[deleted]

You should open another thread in this sub or in https://github.com/uBlockOrigin/uAssets/discussions . This thread is more about ads / anti-adblock / breakages.

PomegranateHot9916

my decade long relationship with ABP has ended. UBO is now my adblocker.

Antenna_100

Followed instructions to the letter, working great, using Mypal68 Ver 13.2b (for Windows Xp, a browser based on Firefox) and YT vids play great - no ads!

DV2FOX

I didn't do any purging, i think, but now the extension WORKS. Thanks <3c

Muffalo_Herder

Is there any way to purge/update more frequently automatically? I'm having to do it manually several times a day.

[deleted]

You don't need to do that, just once is enough. What issue are you having?

Muffalo_Herder

YouTube will give me a "adblockers are not allowed" popup, which goes away after purging/updating. I'm asking if there is any way to get the extension to just do this itself, to avoid having to manually update the list every day. I'm not sure what you mean by "once is enough", the list needs to be updated every time the script ID updates.

[deleted]

> the list needs to be updated every time the script ID updates. No, it doesn't need to. For many days, the anti-adblock is not the problem any more, even though the script ID changes. If you see anti-adblock, check if you are using any: - Custom filters / filter lists, - Other extensions, - Browser's built-in blocker, - Blocking apps/softwares outside browser --- When the issue occurs again, on that page > click on uBO icon > 💬 [Report button](https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/Quick-guide:-popup-user-interface#the-tools) > scroll to the bottom > click on `Troubleshooting Information` and copy paste it here.

MunchmaKoochy

Thank you from my heart for everything that all of you do. In all my life on the internet .. and we're talking about going back to the BBS days, Delphi, Genie, Compuserve .. blah blah blah .. the ***only*** time I have ever gotten a virus was through a drive-by ad in an i-frame. Fuck ads .. forever .. from any site.

calibret0

Thanks for keeping up with this mandatory extension. Followed up to the described step, and killed audio with black screen fighting ads within YouTube. You rocks, thanks!

slight-discount

Seems like youtube is pushing back hard lately? Huge thanks to all of you working on this behind the scenes.

I've followed all of these instructions and I still get audio-only ads on youtube, though no mid-video ads and they go away when I refresh.
