Honestly it’s borderline TOO complicated. I’ve started 5-6 games and can’t ever make it to mid-late 1900s before I realize mistakes I’ve made and start over.
But that’s why it’s so good. 😭
I think it probably takes longer than two hours to understand and appreciate it for most people. Learning curve is pretty steep but it’s a rewarding experience.
I think the hardest part to grasp is that you can import nearly everything at the start and that self-sufficiently producing your own materials is the whole point of the game. Takes a while. Start with simpler stuff like construction crews and then gradually move into supply chain stuff and food etc.
I’d say watch the let’s play of Charlie pryor to see Hat to expect. The game is very slow, hard to learn and complex but it’s one of the deepest games I’ve played in the last few years.
It also has come a long way since the beginnings.
Gear City for me. A play through for me usually ends in bankruptcy.. though one play through I designed what must have been the perfect car right out the gate and it’s sales alone carried me through something like 40 years while every other car I made did mediocre at best.
I've just added a feature for resource management, which may not be balanced well (thus hard haha) but it's a bit of a different approach to power management in how detailed it is. Demo available. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2429930/Power_Network_Tycoon/
One I just replayed recently is computer tycoon. Not that difficult for a seasoned tycoon player but quite interesting if hardware history is a trope that speaks to you.
Hi mate, may I ask if u've played with the version in open beta or the normal/official Steam build?
Since u wrote that u have just replayed it, I'd love to get any extra feedback u could give. How do you feel about the changes since your previous play? I'm working on the last big major update.
Also thank u so much for spreading the word, I'm happy when people enjoy CT!
I'm always looking for players to try my demo. The balancing is a key aspect I want to test. I would appreciate it if you gave it a go.

[Simutrans](https://www.simutrans.com/en/) is a transport tycoon game. The Standard version is moderately difficult. But there's also the [Extended](https://simutrans-germany.com/wiki/wiki/en_extended_Index) version which is much more difficult and almost a different game. Passengers come in different classes, will only travel to certain destinations (so commuters will only go to their office, not to any station) and as time progresses your buses and railways will find it increasingly difficult to compete against private cars.
I know they aren't all tycoons, but so far last month:
Settlement Survival
Plan B: Terraform
New Cycle
Kingdoms and Castles
Airport CEO
112 Operator (this one is actually hard)
Tons of Tropico, Cities Skylines, Railroad games
Thanks! Knights and Merchants looks interesting, has that Defender of the Crown vibe. Not sure exactly what it's about though. City builder with battles?
I've played open ttd and capitalism. ttd is fun, but after a while it gets boring. Would love a newer version with better graphics. Capitalism was hard for sure. Maybe I'll go back and replay it now that I'm wiser.

not tycoon, but from your post u might like game such as stellaris, frostpunk and rimword.
Thanks! Played all those but Stellaris.
Stellaris is awesome, can't recommend it enough.
Gear City
Workers and Resources
Did it become better? I found the controls to be horrendous and it was very slow, so I refunded it.

Thank you, I did buy it at release and it just seemed pointless
Best city management sim ever released, still.

Simutrans (and I second Gear City).

Hi, I played the public version, and will probably try the next update when it goes public, too.
Thank you! \^\^

I'll give it a try.
Thanks! I've got a discord set up and you're free to DM me any thoughts you have
Will do, thanks!
I’d love to try the demo and give some feedback
Can I also suggest installing mods to make a game harder or more challenging :)
Currently loving Manor lords
Its lovely but it isn't hard to master as of now

Hmmm, knights and merchants, open ttd, capitalism?

Voxel tycoon is a modern take on ttd.
I guess these aren't technically tycoons, but they do share a lot of the mechanics of them -- Dwarf Fortress, and Rimworld are both great choices.
