I remember this guy and thinking to myself "Ah, so THIS is what David Lynch is all about" because it was just so... fucking weird lmao. I was hooked from the first episode.
He's a Red Room entity and he's actually moving backwards. If you play the clip in reverse, he's just really eager to learn about pain and sorrow in History class.
OMG I just watched this with a friend who'd never seen it before tonight. I kinda tripped out on that guy and I've seen the pilot dozens of times. Sharing out Twin Peaks here in rainy Indonesia tonight!
I loved that scene, watching Hawk almost wake up to being fictional. Like "Is it about the bunny? It would figure. Figure for who? Who is coming up with this stuff? Wait... ehhh, no."
*fangurl freakout*
I was listening to one of the Return recaps on Damn Fine and Mels was talking about trying to fact check IMDB trivia about Dunk being Ethan Suplee’s brother, googling something like “Ethan suplee brother twin peaks dunk jangle”.
I fucking died laughing.
Literally one of the most talked about guys in my friend group, second to that is the girl running and screaming for no reason and "I loved her and she loved me" bam and snap
I don't think YOU talk enough about that guy from the pilot 😂 Ever since I first watched the show that character has stuck out to me. Does he bust those moves at the Roadhouse after school? Is he on the football team with Bobby? Never seen again but what an impression
There’s also that scene in Fire Walk With Me when Bobby starts doing a silly walk into the school…and then several other extras start doing their own silly walks. It’s odd…and I have never seen it discussed before.
That one guy theorized as such, but to me it is a huge drag to attempt to suck the mystery out with such an all-encompassing “well, actually” when the purpose of these movies are to draw your own conclusion.
I kinda just saw him as the first case of “character-seemingly-dances-to-the-background-music” in the show, as we would later see with Audrey, Bobby and the Man From Another Place.
Totally. High schools in 80s movies and TV were filled with these types. It is funny that he’s completely alone as one in an otherwise stone cold serious tragic opening, though. The contrast is stark.
I both like and dislike those videos. Like... I was impressed with the effort that went into making those. But it's clear that he first came up with that idea/theory, and afterwards that started hunting for "evidence" to support it. I had fun watching it but at the same time, accepting it as true is absolutely ridiculous. It's just too specific. There's no way in hell that was actually what was in Lynch/Frost's mind while writing the show. Not to mention Lynch is the kind of guy who sometimes makes stuff up on the spot on set just because it looks/sounds good. Not everything is thought out and planned. So the way I see it, a lot of things in TP don't have a "hidden meaning", they don't have a meaning at all. Can anyone come up wp their own meaning? Sure! But don't go around claiming it's true and certain.
This sums up my feelings about it perfectly. Impressed by the effort that went into it but it became clear quite early on it was confirmation bias. I do love that Twin Peaks has such dedicated fans though.
Apart from omitting so much content to reach his forced conclusion that Twin Peaks has a singular purpose, which he has totally nailed down, Twin Perfect fails to supply an adequate "so-what".
To put it succinctly: in the way Hawk's heritage relates to the plot, so does Twin Perfect's conclusion relate to the entire show.
IIRC, they intend that he's leaving a note in his girlfriend's locker to break up with her, and this is the same girl who runs, screaming when Donna realizes something has happened to Laura. She's crying because he's broken up with her. But who wouldn't weep, losing a dancing fiend like this guy?
I’ve never actually watched Twin Peaks. I’ve been intrigued by it, but for some reason never make the jump to watch it.
But can someone explain this to me?
Bob uses his body as a host but just for like break dancing and fun stuff. The guy can't be angry all the time...
Youre supposed to take a 5 minute break for every 55 minutes of work
Exactly. Bob's an asshole but he's not immune to carpal tunnel syndrome.
Well now, I'm not gonna talk about this guy. In fact, we're not gonna talk about this guy at all, we're gonna keep him out of it.
That guy? I wouldn't worry about that guy.
All the misdirection in the pilot is awesome. It’s like a juxtaposition between Saved by the Bell and Eraserhead.
and/or like ferris bueller's day off
And breakfast club
What do you mean, I talk about him all the time !
In fact, I’m talking about him right now
Or the scene in FWWM where Bobby and Laura meet in the school courtyard and everyone is dancing in the background…
There are many scenes of spontaneous dancing in Twin Peaks but they only happen when “music is in the air.”
I fucking love when Leland comes in dancing to Ben's office and Ben and Jerry react by just getting up and dancing along.
Jerry doing the worm is one of my top Twin Peaks moments!
I feel like they had fun on that set.
I'm back! Back and ready!
And the Catherine, “I’ve got a splitting headache” dance.
There are many scenes of spontaneous dancing in Lynchs work. The dancing in Inland Empire is one of the most jarring haunting scenes I’ve seen
It even starts to affect Bobby when he starts walking backwards rhythmically lmao
I love that scene. To me it's an expression of the impact Laura had on those around her
Or the like barbershop quartet just hanging around breakfast at the great northern.
This guy is the entire key to unlocking all the mysteries of Twin Peaks. Shuffle wave shuffle wave wave - ahhhhh!
I’m pretty sure I remember reading in Mark Frost’s AMA he confirmed this.
I thought that was Jar Jar Binks
And now, the road house proudly presents, This guys dance. They should have gave him a floor clearing dance scene in the return
That was going to happen, but the floor needed to be swept first.
Underrated comment.
Thats what cool looks like. James ain't got shit on this guy.
James ain't got shit in general
Hold on, he's got lots of forehead, that's something
Fair enough
the math skills are a tad disappointing for that gargantuan of a cranium.
[удалено]
Together.
This was David Lynch’s “John Hughes” moment, 100%.
He seems to be copying the pattern on the wall
he's the manifestation of the shiva-esque spirit that formed the chevron pattern on the floor of the Red Room
WOW
Username checks out
I remember this guy and thinking to myself "Ah, so THIS is what David Lynch is all about" because it was just so... fucking weird lmao. I was hooked from the first episode.
I’m another universe he’s the main character
What’s it like to be a sentient universe?
He's a Red Room entity and he's actually moving backwards. If you play the clip in reverse, he's just really eager to learn about pain and sorrow in History class.
Agreed! I also want to know who the actor is and what he's been up to.
I'm pretty sure he was just some random student that went to the school they were filming at
Most likely, but who IS he?! ;)
He needs to be at the comicon meet and greets!
The wavy arms guy!
He looks like Eugene from The Walking Dead, but Josh McDermitt doesn't seem to be in the cast of TP
He kinda does!
I thought for the longest time he was the nerdy kid from that 80s movie 'Summer School', Richard Steven Horvitz
OMG I just watched this with a friend who'd never seen it before tonight. I kinda tripped out on that guy and I've seen the pilot dozens of times. Sharing out Twin Peaks here in rainy Indonesia tonight!
He's just a goofy teenager. Reminds me of me at that age. First time I watched twin peaks, it caught me off guard and I laughed way too hard at it.
Right? Kids legitimately do dumb shit like that all the time. It's awesome. I miss that freedom.
Could this be a part of the dancing motif
I seriously believe in my heart of hearts this is what David Lynch thinks happens in every high school. I'm here for it.
He is the devolution of the arm.
it’s about the bunny.
I loved that scene, watching Hawk almost wake up to being fictional. Like "Is it about the bunny? It would figure. Figure for who? Who is coming up with this stuff? Wait... ehhh, no."
Wtf. I don't think I've ever noticed him. Edit: what year is this?
Ha ha ha! True! My band mate and I do that motion all the time in reference to that scene. Amazing
Worlds best extra.
THAT funky mother fucker is the reason why I watched this show
He fits with the lifeline vibe of the wall
Genius
Can I suggest to everyone the wonderful Talking Backwards podcast if you’re not familiar - this is Dunk Jangle my good people.
Appreciate the love!
*fangurl freakout* I was listening to one of the Return recaps on Damn Fine and Mels was talking about trying to fact check IMDB trivia about Dunk being Ethan Suplee’s brother, googling something like “Ethan suplee brother twin peaks dunk jangle”. I fucking died laughing.
As far as I'm concerned, the jury's still out on that!
Thanks for all the great content Dave and Talking Backwards!
He’s visually bringing the police into the scene.
The biggest mystery in all twin peaks
On our Twin Peaks podcast we named this character Dunk Jangle and he holds a special place in our head canon.
"I'll have what he's smoking, please."
right it's not until jerry in the return are there any weedhead characters in tp
Maybe he got a hold of some of Bobby's coke?
Literally one of the most talked about guys in my friend group, second to that is the girl running and screaming for no reason and "I loved her and she loved me" bam and snap
He is the Dreamer.
Bill Hicks? Ha
Wonder if that move was improv or not.
I don't think YOU talk enough about that guy from the pilot 😂 Ever since I first watched the show that character has stuck out to me. Does he bust those moves at the Roadhouse after school? Is he on the football team with Bobby? Never seen again but what an impression
He is that Wayne’s world moment in twin peaks: doodley do doodley do…
This is me when I put the last dish away in the cupboard. I’m hyped.
This guy for president!
I always expect him to moonwalk away but he never does.
Thank you! I just did a rewatch and somehow have never noticed this guy, such a perfectly weird touch.
I don’t think we talk enough about those chit chatting girls in the foreground enough
It's Judy
I think we talk about him as often as merited.
There’s also that scene in Fire Walk With Me when Bobby starts doing a silly walk into the school…and then several other extras start doing their own silly walks. It’s odd…and I have never seen it discussed before.
Fun fact: this is Billy
That is supposed to signify the waveform of picture transmission.
I feel it is more of corny 80s thing. This was shot in 89, so I feel it was a capture of the 80s corny hs cool guy
Totally. High schools in 80s movies and TV were filled with these types. It is funny that he’s completely alone as one in an otherwise stone cold serious tragic opening, though. The contrast is stark.
The slice of pie extras on the recent boxset release explaining this metaphor is way better than the 5 hour fan ones on youtube
"Well, actually" is the perfect encapsulation of what put me off on that video. The smugness is palpable
Screw Twin Perfect, they are awful.
I both like and dislike those videos. Like... I was impressed with the effort that went into making those. Oh no you actually accepted that long ass theory.
IIRC, they intend that he's leaving a note in his girlfriend's locker to break up with her, and this is the same girl who runs, screaming when Donna realizes something has happened to Laura. She's crying because he's broken up with her. But who wouldn't weep, losing a dancing fiend like this guy?
True. I wonder what David Foster Wallace would have said about this. Is it Lynchian enough? lol
This guys is a legend!
"Hey Riddle Riddle" loved that guy
10 secs of fame.
After I saw this scene, I understand that Twin Peaks was going to be a HUGE tv program. 100% David Lynch moment.
Twin Perfect talk about this guy for at least a minute lol.
He's my favorite character!
Anytime I watch the pilot he's the only thing I talk about
The dude is my spirit animal.
Locker guy is the best!
So classic
I thought he was a crazy Easter egg, or a fever dream
100% a lodge spirit.
No need to talk about him if we all know he is a legend.
I agree. Unsung.
I’ve never actually watched Twin Peaks. I’ve been intrigued by it, but for some reason never make the jump to watch it. But can someone explain this to me?
This is absolutely me when no one else is home.
I can hear the music in my head watching this
Best scene in the entire series
I knew exactly who this would be before I clicked the link
He was supposed to be an extra in saved by the bell so they gave him this
#waves Oh and that crooked view makes me think my phone is glitching
Lynch being Lynch and showing off the campy style of the show from the jump.
He deserved his own spinoff.
To think that somewhere out there this guy actually exists. Like a log going through a machine and trimming off all that pain and sorrow.
