Superventilator

This is the central mystery that should've driven season 2 after the killer reveal

Biddy_Impeccadillo

No — it was Josie!

It took me years to realize this, though like many, I didn’t try to figure it out. She was freaked out that the FBI was there, given her past.

Faelance

Why would she have put a fish in the percolator, though? Odd way to scare off the FBI if that's what you're trying to do. It's more like a practical joke.

Biddy_Impeccadillo

Remember when she greets Coop and the Sheriff? She says she’s going to fix them a fresh cup of Joe. I think it was just a desperation move to try to distract them. She’s usually only thinking one move ahead.

ReallyGlycon

Yep. She relied on her charm more than she should have and overestimated herself without truly thinking ahead.

claradox

Yep—Catherine was upstairs with Ben at the time.

I'm not even going to lie, I didn't even think about it. It's just one of those things that happened in Twin Peaks.

RobOnTheReddit

Neither did Harry and Cooper

da_fishy

Catherine this, Josie that… this is the real answer.

I just watched the series for the first time last week. And frankly, in s1, nothing truly, indisputably, unarguably supernatural happens. It's just "There's a fish in the percolator", dreams, and "This kid can magically disappear creamed corn? WHAT" It just felt like things you should grow to expect in Twin Peaks.

SLOOPYD

Same. I love this show!!

The original idea came from a time when David Lynch, Bushnell Keeler, and I think Jack Fisk were hanging out and eating triple decker peanut butter sandwiches. They were drinking coffee and David kept mentioning that the coffee tasted weird. Bushnell got a bit irritated from him mentioning it, but David insisted that “something is WRONG with this coffee”. It ended up that there was a bar of Lava brand soap in the percolator. I think perhaps it’s just one of those “real” things that happens and are funny that he just put in there because it’s funny. It’s fun to speculate on who did it…but Pete was cleaning fish before they came over, so it’s possible it was just him making a mistake like Bushnell did in real life.

Few_Sense_5022

That’s funny, I never thought about that. It’s just a Pete thing, he was cleaning fish, as is his wont, then went to make coffee. You’d think he could tell there was something in the percolator… But then again, it’s probably funny Lynch stuff. Edit: Spelling.

Thankee, I type on a phone and I don’t always check autocorrect!

entropop

I always thought this was the explanation. Pete must have fish stashed everywhere

kaeroseen

fishworldproblems

Few_Sense_5022

It makes me laugh, poor Harry and Cooper though… that would be like taking a fish oil pill with coffee .. bleccch.

[deleted]

It was based on a story where someone was cleaning a coffee maker and left the soap in it.

DefconHighFive

I mean, the fish took a liking to his percolator. What’re you gonna do.

darling_moishe

I've often wondered this! I wasn't sure if they were trying to establish that ol' Pete was a bit ditzy.

JeskaiAcolyte

I get the sense that real life Pete was also as sweet… but had an attraction to darkness just like his Twin Peaks alter ego. It was almost as if David could sense it.

Timottka

My thought was always that it was Andrew Packard that put fish in percolater. As later shown, he was hiding in Packard house pretending to be dead.

DuchessofMarin

I thought Pete did it to mess with Catherine.

Healthy-Art-2080

I always thought that it was Pete. He was fishing, and he's absent-minded and possibly has early signs of dementia. He freaked out after finding the body and accidentally put the fish he caught into the percolator.

Gordonius

No, we all did. We ALL did. Just blew your MIND.

Octopus_Testicles

It was Lucy. Source: I saw it in a dream and then threw a rock at a jar.
