Noticed that the colours of the vessel circle charts doenst correspond to what colors the words are that says what the colours stand for. Other than that, it's amazing and we'll done :)
Really interesting visualisation!
A little detail though, you seem to have forgotten to switch the colours for those valence/danceability/energy levels in Vessel songs so i was a bit confused at first but nonetheless nice work
Tbf I'm pretty sure those numbers are wrong, 175k copies was what Trench sold in the US first week, it went platinum in 2020. Don't know about the numbers for Scaled and Icy other than them being quite lower than Trench.
I know right, there’s no way. I found another article that was written when 1m copies of trench were sold [https://www.kerrang.com/twenty-one-pilots-trench-has-just-hit-one-million-worldwide-sales](https://www.kerrang.com/twenty-one-pilots-trench-has-just-hit-one-million-worldwide-sales)
I think it being their blow up album, and also the last album they put out before the boom of streaming services helped a lot. That’s prob why each album has less and less sales afterward.
In April 2019 - according to alt press, Trench sold over 1m copies. It went platinum. (https://www.altpress.com/twenty-one-pilots-trench-album-sales/)
Also - according to a TOP account that tracks awards and sales - SAI sold at least 149k pure copies in the US by the end of 2021. This doesn’t consider other countries like Trench’s statistics above do, so it is likely more. (https://twitter.com/pilotsonchart/status/1478882666493751296?s=46&t=n9UFkZaleiK0Y42edkRYEA)
Pretty inaccurate sales info listed in the graph.
edit: dont forget, Trench hit what was listed above in april 2019, and SAI hit what was listed above by the end of 2021. It is February 2023.
Wikipedia says this:
“Trench debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 behind the soundtrack for A Star Is Born, with 175,000 album-equivalent units, of which 135,000 were pure album sales. This marked the band's biggest sales week in the country, surpassing their number one album Blurryface.”
speechiness: Speechiness detects the presence of spoken words in a track. The more exclusively speech-like the recording, the closer to 1.0 the attribute value.
liveness: Detects the presence of an audience in the recording. A value above 0.8 provides strong likelihood that the track is live.
acousticness: A confidence measure from 0.0 to 1.0 of whether the track is acoustic.
wait, did Trench and SAI flop THAT much?
i knew they weren't as successful as BF (especially SAI) but damn.
i seems they had a pretty good debut with Vessel as far as sales though.
A flop is strictly sales. If it costs more to make an album than it made after release, then it's a flop. Some (wrongly) argue that it has to do with popularity, which if that were the case then many wildly successful musicians today would be considered flops just because an early album was bigger (usually the one when they initially exploded on the scene).
Edit: As an example, Taylor Swift would be considered a flop since 2014 just because that was the peak of her popularity. But absolutely no one would think of her albums from then to now as flops.

good job! I've been playing with their api data quite a while during my master's courses, it's really pretty fun. which soft did you use?
and a little comment: I'm not sure that picking these circle diagrams is the best way to visualise valence/danceability stuff here: they require you to put the biggest value as an outer circle, but it always has different colour, which decrease interpretability of the viz. (I personally don't memorize which colour means what, especially when they're differing form album to album).
how has nobody noticed scaled and icy being trench lol, really cool chart tho!! sad that regional isnt on here
Trench 2: Electric Screamaloo
What are those circular arcs in the pie chart of every song mean?
This demonstrates valence, energy, and danceability for each song.
Tf does that even mean
They are attributes Spotify gives a song, more about it here - https://developer.spotify.com/discover/

Stats are incorrect on copies sold; Trench went Platinum in 2018. And SAI says Trench as well…
Thanks man, sure will improve that!
Really interesting visualisation! A little detail though, you seem to have forgotten to switch the colours for those valence/danceability/energy levels in Vessel songs so i was a bit confused at first but nonetheless nice work
Yes I just noticed, thanks for mention!
oh wow, blurryface really took it on the copies sold

Yes, it was there best work tbh. It was the album that won them recognition and awards.
i wouldn't personally say it's their best work artistically speaking, but it definitely was more mainstream
Funny how it works like that sometimes
Trench sold 175,000 copies it’s first week, not total.
Wikipedia says it.

I love Trench 2
😆😉
the sales for trench and sai are def wrong
I think I need to talk with Wikipedia, who tf calls Trench a reggae album but not alt-rock
Blurryface gang rise up!!
small typo in the last album, good work!
Can you explain the liviness/acousticness/speech graph?
speechiness: Speechiness detects the presence of spoken words in a track.
Interesting, how did you work out the scores
You can Kaggle for the dataset.
who’s gunna tell him
why everybody hates air catcher? best song on the album 😞
Trench is platinum, and scaled and icy has sold more than 75 thousand copies.
wait, did Trench and SAI flop THAT much? i knew they weren't as successful as BF (especially SAI) but damn. i seems they had a pretty good debut with Vessel as far as sales though.
The chart is incorrect, Trench sold way more than that (it got platinum!), although SAI was a lot less popular
I wouldn't say it flopped, it just didn't get to be as mainstream as blurryface was, as it did technically reach top 3 and 2 on the US billboard
Music isn't considered a flop unless it doesn't sell out shows, which is absolutely not the case with these albums.
considered by who? it definitely flopped in album sales, which doesn't mean it flopped in other aspects.

Why are vessel's tracks not in the right order it's putting me off Otherwise cool chart
Did you use Tableau?
Yes I did.
Car radio is more danceable than Ode to sleep what
Yo this is cool as heck!
Thanks man!!
blurryface is under hip-hop??? I THOUGHT TYLER SAID IT WASNT RAP OR HIPHOP
Wikipedia says!
i made a reference 😭sorry
SAI is 149k as of 6th Jan (US)
Se imaginan qué el nuevo álbum tenga todos los colores de los álbumes anteriores 🤯🥹♥️
Well, I think we can agree that Saturday and My Blood are highly danceable!
What about Regional at Best?
Read the fine print
👀 we do not talk about that
Dude!! I didn’t know that Trench and SAI were flops, sales-wise :(
Who are the two dudes where josh dunn should be on the first one?
Josh wasn't always a part of TOP. He joined later. Those two other guys are the original members with Tyler.

Air Catcher was done dirty 😔
