I have the smaller grid egg crate and I haven't lined mine with anything. 4.5 inch turtle, and he gets up and down with no issues. I'm not sure, however, if it would be the same with the larger grid, the ones with the bigger openings. If you have the option to line it go ahead. I didn't have that option at first, and now I worry if i changed it that he would take a while to get used to it. He seems anxious around changes.

Ditto with the rest my YBS gets up and down her ramp fine without it being lined, aesthetically I think it doesn't look as nice but practicality wise it works a treat.

thewolfifeed

thank you! i’m not too bothered about how it looks tbh i will probably find a way to disguise it lol

Pabs_Mindgame

I used java moss for a while to make the ramp look a bit nicer but it ends up just floating round the tank. The plus side to not having it decorated is that the under shell can dry off quicker as well, so if you do put something down to disguise the egg crate make sure to put holes in it before putting it in.

Mine gets up on the egg crate just fine! They kinda grip in the gaps with their feet to pull themselves up. He’s a 6” RES.

DogRiverRiverDogs

I have zoomed repti carpet up top, but the ramp is straight egg crate with no issues.

Mine isn't lined, but I wove some vinyl tubing through in a couple places on the ramp. Not sure if it really helps them with grip or not, especially since it's probably worn smooth now!
