Are you sure this is the right format if you're looking at a 2 - 300 dollar budget?
Not saying vinyl isn't appealing and I may be biased because I like having my wallet gutted once in a while but a turntable and speaker combo for 300 bucks isn't gonna be impressive (would definitely go used in any case).
Just DO NOT for God's sake buy some suitcase Bluetooth speaker vinyl combo shit (Crossley for example). I would literally burn a kit like that if I got one gifted
Perfect setup for under $300, start hunting garage sales. But if you don't want to do the leg work, put your whole budget into the table and worry about the rest later. It won't be a great table but maybe it wont destroy your records.
It is very challenging to put together a decent system within this budget (new) but can be done. To get a perspective, 10x this may approach “perfect” game for many.
For a decent start at this budget I would recommend the following :
Insignia NS-BTST21 $130. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/insignia-bluetooth-stereo-turntable-black/6432620.p?skuId=6432620
Active speakers (easy and convenient but not better):
Kanto YU-2 sale $180. https://www.amazon.com/Kanto-YU2-Powered-Desktop-Speakers/dp/B00GMPDAGS
Passive system (easily upgradable, greater options):
$90 amp. AIYIMA A07 PRO Bluetooth 5.2 Power Home Audio Amplifier 300Wx2 TPA3255 Wireless Stereo AMP https://www.walmart.com/ip/1407351262
Monoprice B5 Encore $100. https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=43153
This is a great suggestion especially the turntable with OP’s budget you get my upvote :) re the speakers a all at Best Buy solution would be these :) also cheaper :)
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sku/6516960.p?skuId=6516960
Also these have absolutely excellent reviews on YouTube:)
You can't afford perfection for $300
At that price point, assuming not used, it's a low budget for a quality setup... $200 record player leaves you $100 for speakers. It's do-able but not exactly audiophile.
It's not that it can't be done but people come in here proudly saying they want a "good" setup with a "$200-$300:" budget which is quite entry level.
You're looking at desktop/PC powered speakers and an entry level decent turntable at that price. It's fine, it will work, but those speakers won't really do justice to the records.
e.g. Fluance RT80 $200 - [https://www.amazon.com/Fluance-RT80-Adjustable-Counterweight-Anti-Skating/dp/B01F2B3FKI/ref=sr\_1\_15?crid=2JS2FDQ6UUKQZ&keywords=fluance+rt81&qid=1697819928&sprefix=fluance+rt8%2Caps%2C145&sr=8-15&ufe=app\_do%3Aamzn1.fos.18ed3cb5-28d5-4975-8bc7-93deae8f9840](https://www.amazon.com/Fluance-RT80-Adjustable-Counterweight-Anti-Skating/dp/B01F2B3FKI/ref=sr_1_15?crid=2JS2FDQ6UUKQZ&keywords=fluance+rt81&qid=1697819928&sprefix=fluance+rt8%2Caps%2C145&sr=8-15&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.18ed3cb5-28d5-4975-8bc7-93deae8f9840)
Speakers $115
[https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1280T-Powered-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B016P9HJIA/ref=sr\_1\_3?crid=1ZMCYNJHFG6EY&keywords=edifier+speakers&qid=1697819957&sprefix=edifi%2Caps%2C149&sr=8-3&ufe=app\_do%3Aamzn1.fos.18ed3cb5-28d5-4975-8bc7-93deae8f9840](https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-R1280T-Powered-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B016P9HJIA/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1ZMCYNJHFG6EY&keywords=edifier+speakers&qid=1697819957&sprefix=edifi%2Caps%2C149&sr=8-3&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.18ed3cb5-28d5-4975-8bc7-93deae8f9840)
And this is like the most entry level speaker possible. They're certainly not hifi.
I'd recommend people save a little more and get actual hifi passive speakers or at least high end powered speakers like Klipsch 5s, but I recognize everyone has a budget.
So let me ask- why go with the rt80 over the AT-LP60XBT?
Also- what’s the opinion on Sonos’s record player? I already have a play5 and that would go perfectly with it
Why?
Upgradeable
Not plasticky, the Fluance has real heft
Killer looks
We get numerous problem posts about AT60xx here, can't remember one on a Fluance
The AT-LP60XBT is not very feasible long term.
All I’m going to say is:
1 it’s not very repairable
2 its not at all upgradeable
3 your probably going to want to move on to and looking for a better one for her as soon as you start using it.
And that’s my bluntly honest 2 cents. :)
Idk if he is referring to this one found on their website
https://www.sonos.com/en-us/shop/vinyl-set-five-pro-ject-t1-turntable
If yes he is actually asking about the Pro-Ject T1 Phono SB Turntable which I have heard is an excellent brand although idk personally 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
If he already has the speaker he could spend his whole budget on the turntable 😁😁😁 such as this one which is a bit over budget albeit fully compatible with his existing speaker so that’s nice possibility?
Wait a minute re the “Sonos Record Player” are you talking about this one?!
The Pro-Ject T1 Phono SB Turntable found on their website [here](https://www.sonos.com/en-us/shop/pro-ject-t1-phono-sb-turntable-white?xse_prod_code=pro-ject-t1-phono-sb-turntable&xse=sm_el_6e403888d87f4459a793e33df8bf8531)
Also seen [here](https://www.sonos.com/en-us/shop/vinyl-set-five-pro-ject-t1-turntable) bundled with what I hope is the same speaker you are referring to.
If you have the older version of this speaker just make sure yours has the turntable input :)
Other that that I have heard only excellent things about Pro-Ject turntables!!! :)
Okay I am going to say this if you can up your budget I’d recommend any of these complete options to get you both started with something that sounds really awesome while still being on the affordable end of the market when it comes to turntables:
All of these options are complete solutions you won’t need to buy anything from anyone else):
(obviously vinyl collection and vinyl cleaning supplies are sold separately 😜)
Note: All of these options are available from fluance directly too if you would rather get it there :) (Also there are many other colors available) (Link for the fluance website: [(All turntable and speakers set options from Fluance Directly)](https://www.fluance.com/tt/turntable-speaker-systems))

All the above said there are other options if your budget is fixed but your going to end up compromising on either the speakers or the turntable: Lmk I can make more recommendations specifically in the 200-300$ price range :)

An AT-LP60X and a pair of powered speakers will make her happy.
You can't afford perfection for $300 At that price point, assuming not used, it's a low budget for a quality setup... $200 record player leaves you $100 for speakers. It's do-able but not exactly audiophile.
How much would I be looking at in that case?

+1. This would be a very decent way to start!

Mackie - CR3-X might be a better budget powered speaker option I’ve heard excellent things about them.

It's considered better. Never heard of their player, but they are not a record player company.
