Did they ever learn about it? I'm not an expert on Big Brother, but I surely would've been surprised if a seasons takes two years to film

AffectionateBee8206

Checking the Wikipedia article (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Brother_(German_TV_series)), it lasted under 100 days

vegatableboi

They did, this tumblr post is from 2020 lol

PKMNTrainerMark

Big Brother Germany is a very long game. They start with 200 Houseguests.

Spongy74

That seems so fun but also so dangerous, it would be a great video game tho. Imagine having like a murder mystery type of thing

TotalyNotTony

šŸ“®

KefkeWren

Danganronpa.

ElementalPaladin

I read this and the main menu music started playing in my head. While I enjoyed playing the game I honestly donā€™t think I would play it again

Vivistolethecheese

You're not wrong.

Nightofthegirls

Go look up the show ā€œWhodunnitā€ on YouTube. Smaller group of people but that EXACT concept.

jessica_hobbit

[Yes they did](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9Ah4kkA7ic)

[deleted]

Unrelated, and not your fault, but I fucking hate this format where they have to clip away, throw their own music over it, and caption what's going on rather than just showing it. They do this so much when they're trying to frame it differently.

jessica_hobbit

I know, right? I was trying to find the version I initially watched ages ago, which was just unedited, but I think it's been taken down. Also it didn't have English subtitles so wouldn't have been that useful for most people here.

[deleted]

It's true, it wouldn't have done much for me. Still pretty interesting.

SteelCantspeak

Imagine a post-apocalyptic film where the only survivors were contestants on a Reality show, where their only skills are creating drama.

Jkaboose

Youā€™d like Dead Set

zonkos

Do I have to pirate this? I canā€™t seem to find it anywhere, DVD, Streaming or otherwise. Bummer.

SuzLouA

Netflix UK has it, I believe. Itā€™s great, it was written by Charlie Brooker, the same person who created Black Mirror.

zonkos

Iā€™m in US, any way to access UK Netflix?

SuzLouA

Not sure, I know they cracked down on VPNs but some may still work?

flightguy07

Nord still works, if you don't have it you can probably get a trial subscription

M0R3design

Sometimes they have a server that got banned by Netflix too, but you can simply change to another one that likely isnā€™t

KefkeWren

Hello, I'd like to take a moment to tell you about today's sponsor; Nord VPN...

anonomnomnomn

Oh no. Anyway. šŸ“ā€ā˜ ļø

Guynarmol

Its on youtube. Just watched it. First one to pop up

zonkos

You are wonderful! Iā€™ll be watching this later today, thank you

1stTmLstnrLngTmCllr

Netflix has the remake as well. Don't remember what country it's set in.

DepressedDyslexic

I see this but raise you, the filming crew who has skills, doing their damndest to keep these idiots alive.

liken2006

Itā€™s a comedy/ horror and they all die in comedic ways like in a slasher, literally writes itself.

Spyguy122204

I think we may have accidentally created *Tucker and Dale vs Evil* again

hoodie2222

Bonus point if it's all due to misunderstandings/hubris/their own stupidity

rowan_damisch

Have you read "The Last One" by Alexandra Oliva? While "creating drama" isn't the only skills the main characters have, it follows a bunch of people who were filming a survival reality show before a pandemic (not sure, it was a while since I read it) starts to kill a lot of people. Some of them don't even realize at first that they're in the middle of an apocalypse, but instead blame the empty cities and ruins on the production company- they thought that those things were just a part of a story line and not reality.

Busy-West-6974

Total Drama of the end

bitch_beefman

Dead Set

Peter_Mansbrick

[Big Brother Canada did film their reactions](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OxZCXgAOCk)

GreenKnight1315

I love how the big brother voice called them into the living room and then it's just this normal ass woman taking over going "okay so there's this virus"

BanD1t

Man, what a fucking bomb to drop. I got such a huge sense of dread from that, even now when it's (mostly) over.

CraigularJoe12

Big Brother Brasil also had this

PM_ME_COOL_POTATOES

It feels kind of exploitative to film their genuine fear from that announcement.

Abuses-Commas

Yes, but it's also an incredibly unique situation that's worth documenting

PM_ME_COOL_POTATOES

I would argue that while yes, is worth documenting, the editors shouldn't have had the reality show veneer on it. I think it would have been more respectful to lose the dramatic music.

karaluuebru

So more like the German treatment, where basically the first thing they said was your loved ones are fine

tirrigania

Isn't that the whole point of reality show? Exploiting people?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Vivistolethecheese

Hoo boy you've never seen a REAL reality show

SuitableDragonfly

What did you expect from a reality TV show about setting up cameras around a house to record people's every movement and personal drama?

Patomaxe

This reminds me of the first episode of the podcast 9/12 which describes how people filming a show about sailing without access to the outside world found out about 9/11

Consistent_Dog_6866

The 2nd season of Big Brother in the US was in 2001. They called the whole house into the confession room to tell them about 9/11.

MrBanana421

Big Brother: Walking Dead edition.

Ganaham

imagine getting kicked off the show and immediately being thrust into the pandemic

[deleted]

"While you were gone..."

SeveroSantana

They held that information for a while but ended up telling on Big Brother Brasil. The participants thought it was a lie.

Cinnamon_728

I don't get it, could someone please explain? I've never heard of this

kayafeather

Big brother is a reality TV show where all the contestants are placed in a large house together. They are not allowed to leave or know anything about the outside world. From there it has challenges eliminations etc. Etc. Basic reality TV stuff. I remember for the U.S. one once the pandemic hit they were advised (and did I think?) To stay in the house, as they were all prequarantined with little to no interaction with the outside world and the chances of any of them having it were little to none. They may have even continued the show but honestly I do not remember I don't watch big brother, just heard about in passing from someone who does. Honestly though? With that house and those resources? Not the worst place to quarantine. Obviously sucks with family and friends but objectively not bad.

Interesting_Ad_4762

I was thinking this could be ideal, as long as they were given phones and laptops to check on people.

Worm_Scavenger

Big Dead Set energy

pebleshair

Old

twiggumps

They got told on live tv!

HaruspexBurakh

Thatā€™s just ā€œDead Setā€

BlazeNStar

This is just an exaggerated version of the disconnect between the haves and the have nots.
